How to hook up one LED light with two 6v sources?

I'm trying to hook up a tail/brake light on my moped and I'm wondering if its possible to use the one light for both brake and tail light. The light itself is a closed housing with two leads coming off the back, see the diagram as I'm probably not going to explain things all too well. The moped has three wires that originally powered two separate incandescent bulbs and the third wire being the ground completing the circuit. The brake light is only lit when I squeeze the brake lever where there is a switch that connects and sends the power back to the light. Is there any way to connect these two wires into the one lead that could result in an increased brightness when I complete the brake lights circuit? My thinking is that I can put a resistor on the 'tail light (constantly fed)' lead and when the 'brake light' lead has power, the light will get the full 6v and become brighter. Am I close to being right about this? How can I keep the 'tail light' power from traveling through the 'brake light' wire? I know theres something I'm obviously missing here, its been a while since I've worked with voltage and maybe its not possible but I'm hoping theres a way.

Bulb problems on iped?

I have an iped electric moped with pedals which I believe has a in hub motor ( haven't looked yet) the problem I have is this the replacement bulbs are almost impossible to find The headlight for example is a 55volt 36/36 which I am finding impossible to find  the rear brake light is 55 volt 15/15 watt unsure of the wedge bulb parking light which is 5mm width and there is definitely no 55 volt wedge bulbs this size The only conclusion I can think of is to insert a dc converter which will drop the voltage to each bulb from 55v to 12v giving me more availability on bulb selection I am just curious if any one on hear knows where I can get 55volt bulbs ? I also noticed a post on here regarding someone looking for extra speed and was answered with disconnecting the grey loop wires under the top cowling Well done that man you gave good advice I done mine myself and yes the increase is there I don't know if I have to keep looking for answers on this but my email is nickcorish@gmail.com if anyone can help Many Thanks all Nick

What kinda engine would be suitable for a moped bike?

I am looking into making a moped out of my bike to increase fuel efficiency. I am looking to find out where i could find a suitable engine within laws for NH. Around here, According to the DMV a moped or scooter must meet the following restrictions: It must have an engine of 50 cubic centimeters or less. It cannot exceed 30 mph on level terrain. It cannot shift. It cannot exceed two horsepower. As i said, im not sure where to find a suitable engine to meet those criteria that i can scavenge. I am looking to make a chain drive bike not a roller driven due to inneficiency, maintence, and traction of the roller on the wheel being lack. Couldnt find any chain driven conversions on here. If you can offer any information it would be much appreciated.

New Group : Scooter Trash - For all of you Bikers, Bikies, Motorcyclists, 1%ers, Citizens and Independants

I've started a new group dedicated to motorcycles and the lifestyle that goes with them. Scooters, Mopeds, Trikes, Sportbikes, Choppers, Bobbers, Cruisers, Tourers: They all count. Feel free to join if you have something to add, or if you're interested in bikes. To me, motorcycles represent freedom. Freedom to go. Freedom to be. Freedom from convention. Freedom to live. Freedom to ride. When you're on a bike with the breeze in your face, bugs in your teeth, and wind in your hair, nothing else matters. Bills, ills, drought, loss, death, strain, stress: all gone while that engine is pounding, and those wheels are rolling. My parents treated them as if they were evil, and I agreed, FOR A WHILE. When I was 17, while they were out of town on vacation, I bought my first bike. It was a beat up 20 year old Harley. It almost never ran, (so Mom and Dad calmed down) but it started a permanent love-affair with cycles. I've owned nearly 50 bikes over the last 20 years, and still own 11 of them. Note: I just went over the list, and I've owned 41 complete bikes, and 17 parts/project bikes, not to mention a barn full of miscellaneous spare parts. So tell me, What do you ride? What do you want to ride? Why do you ride? How long have you been riding? Good/Bad experiences?

1970 Honda CT70 LED Headlight & USB charger idea

Hi guys, New here but not to projects and tinkering in general. Mostly im a mechanical type guy and not to electrically inclined. I have a 1970 Honda CT70H Trail bike, I would like to replace the current headlight with a single or multipul LED set, also id like to split it and run a USB charger when the headlight is not runnning. My plan to acomplish this (my very simple in a perfect world plan) is to take the LED set from a small cheap flashlight that uses 4 batteries in order to get the proper voltage, and use the same leads the go to the headlight. Currently the Honda has a dimmer switch which I was planning on using for my switch between light and usb power. For the usb I was going to use a car cig-lighter type charger and but i know a car is a 12 volt system however i assume because usb chargers use 5volts that a car charger has a 5volt regulator in place? Included is a ct70 wiring diagram link, help would be great http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/dratv_2197_243290703 Thanks all

Converting a bike into a 50cc moped, any advice?

What do I do for break lights and turning signals? I'm very technical minded and good with electrical logic, but I don't know the laws/regulation surrounding that area (but I DO know they are required). I've taken driver's training, so I know all the laws/signs ect... I'm looking for advice from people who've done this before. Have you run into any problems? Catches? I have very little idea what is needed to make a gas powered motor to work. How to you take care of a 2-stroke 50cc engine? How do I mount it to my bike frame? should I look out for something in particular when I purchase an engine? Oh, and I live in Michigan (if there is any notable laws here, I plan to go to the secretary of state soon)

Green Transportation

Getting places is crucial, but it doesn't have to negatively impact the environment. These three ideas--while not really viable given a modest budget--are interesting ways of approaching homemade green transportation. I especially like the third one, Dream Car 123 (pictured below)--but that's probably because I've always wanted to drive around in a car that looks like it's from Sleeper (a sleeper cell, if you will) and the bulletproof glass will ensure that I don't get shot.Link

Electronics dummy needs your input please

Hi, I want to run a battery operated item that takes its power directly from my 50cc mopeds 12v 4ah battery.  The item takes a minimum of 60w and can take upto 100w which I'm told, could drain the mopeds battery too much even when the engine is running at full speed charging the battery. Can I connect an adustable 6-24v step up inverter to the main bikes battery and use it to install and charge a second 12v bike battery purley to power the 60w to 100w electrical item while its in use, saving my main bikes battery to besure it won't run out of enough power to start the moped after Ive finnished using the electrical item? Im sorry but I not good at electonics and need your input to help guide me to run the item from my 50cc scooter/moped.

Vintage/Classic/Antique/Old Motorcycle, Scooter, and Moped Parts Sourcing?

Does anyone know a good source for obsolete parts? Finding parts for my '72 CB175 is proving to be fairly easy, however, the 1970 Harley M65S (leggero) by Aermacchi is proving much more difficult. Right now I am looking for a Carb rebuild kit for a Del'Orto ME18BS, I am sure there will be others later.  If you know where to hunt this down please let me know. 50cc 2 Stroke Tuning? Answered

I have an old moped that I got for cheap and I am trying to fix it up. I replaced the carburetor and the new one is a little bigger even though it is off of another 50cc. It insisted on running extremely lean, but I was able to get the fuel/air mix balanced by putting some foil tape over part of the intake to get more vacuum behind it. It will only run right if the exhaust is on so that it is not lined up perfectly with the exhaust port on the cylinder. If the exhaust is taken off it will start first kick, but if it is lined up the way it should be it will not start. I took it off today and when I put it back on as close to the way it was before it would start but is now running very lean, beyond what I can tune out with the carburetor. If I give it full throttle it bogs and has no power, but it has fair power at 1/3 to 1/2 throttle. It also is getting really hot and has absolutely no power once it gets very hot. Yesterday I hat it all just right and it ran with none of these problems except that full throttle was still not where it got full power. Does any one have any ideas about what I have to do to make it run right? Maybe there is no option but careful misalignment of the muffler? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It turns out that the problems were that the muffler was clogged, and that it was running too lean at first, but too rich once it warmed up. Thank you for you suggestions.

I flagged a recent post as spam on the DIY air powered moped thread.  This post (along with some others? I thought there were more than 15) appears to have been deleted, but the thread is still at the top of the "most recent posts" ordering despite the most recent remaining post being from 2008. Looks like deleting a post from a thread should trigger a re-evaluation of the date ordering?  Either that or the ordering doesn't respect deleted posts...

Legality of home-built electric bike?

I plan on using a regular beach cruiser pedal bike, removing the pedals and mechanism, and powering it with an electric motor. I'm estimating it will go anywhere from 20-25 mph. I know the laws about mopeds and motorcycles, but what would this fall under, since it will be custom and home built? Using a laser printer on sign vinyl?

Question:  I've gotten a nice sized scrap of  sign vinyl from where I work at, and I'm wanting to cut out a replacement logo for the side of my pedal-start moped.  I can do it by hand okay if I could transfer the design onto the sign vinyl and follow it.  (because, I don't have access to a vinyl cutter or a Cricut type machine.) Can you do the toner transfer method from a transparency made in a laser printer, or would that melt the vinyl?  Or, if cut to proper size, could you print directly onto the vinyl, if the printer's paper path were essentially straight?  It wouldn't have to be permanent, just on the surface to follow it.  This stuff is pretty opaque, so a light table won't work either. Thanks for your time!

Oops! I think I broke Instructables!

Oops - I slightly broke the website. Just a little bit.The thread "...bigger than its belly can" has too many full stops in the title, which confuses computers, apparently.Anyhoo...I was just pointing out that, of all the engines you'd expect to see here, nobody has made a pulse jet engine. Yes, I made a jam jar version, but nobody has made a real one.I don't know why, they're very easy (basically a big pipe with a fuel supply and no consideration for the neighbours).Maybe you'd just like to buy one off ebay, or maybe you'd like to look at the pictures of the jet mounted on a scooter, imagine what the ride would be like, and tremble slightly in anticipatory panic...I got a message from the seller:I have a video of it doing approx 70mph down Croft start/finish straight, the moped has now gone as the plastic wheels did not last long !!.

I feel drained.....not just drained but kind of empty....UPDATED

I have been trying to "restart" my creative mind, but of late, I feel like I have had my brain replaced by a vacuum cylinder.   I am at a total loss, and even the LASER project I was working on, failed miserably.   Before going on to anything more with that, I will have to get some protective eyewear though. This is all very depressing to me....but I don't want anyone that knows me to feel badly because I do, it isn't your fault....it is partly situational and party medical (I feel like I am getting old - like my imagination is waning...). I guess PART of the problem is that the BAR KARMA project appears to be coming to an end.....with no news of whether it will be renewed next year or not......I had a LOT of fun, writing and submitting ideas to that, and even got to hear a suggested piece of music on one of the shows :-) I want to thank each of you for replying to my little mope session.....it has gotten kind of lonely in my section of the world....and it's good to know i am well thought of....thank you all.   I guess my recent failures, the mess I made of the box I  sent out in the gift exchange, the recent ambition to do something with a crystal radio....and my laser project that fizzled out....my fading eyesight, and inability to do the artwork (pyrographs) I once enjoyed doing....all has taken it's toll. To be honest, it hasn't been a LITTLE mope session, this has been going on for a few months, but has come to a head recently. What good is this deafness..... Only one? I was just going through many of my old PM's since I have kept a LOT of them, almost as far back as I can remember....so I could weed out some of them, and I have come to realize a few things:   #1:  I am DEEPLY in everyone's debt here for all they have done for me over the past few years.   In fact, that brings me to something else.... #2: I feel quite ashamed at feeling down when there are so many of you out there that care, I have NO BUSINESS feeling alone. .. it might even be considered "selfish" of me to feel that way.    And I am sorry for that.....but I do realize I am not alone, and I ACKNOWEDGE each and every one of you I have dealt with over the years. You are all VERY special to me.

Direction/turn signal indicators making them brighter with led bulb I need help pls

Hi. I somtimes ride a 1985 yamaha ms50 pogal 50cc moped. It has an 6v electrial system where as modern day scooters are 12v. I bought a knew indicater relay for it and checked all the bulbs as the turn signal indicators are not so easy to see flashing. I mean, on average sunny day other road users would need to look hard to see them flashing. the bulbs are 6v 15w and both old and knew flasher relays gives output of 6v 40w. I would feel much safer when turning if I had a bulb that gives a brighter flash to give other road users a better idea when im turning. I can see on the web there is a 6v 5w and 10w bulb I can try or even 6v leds but I dont know much about leds. the stanadard factory fitted indicater buld 6v 15w gives an ok flash at night, but in sunny daylight I would need to be close up to see it flash which is no good! I don't want to change the originality of this little ped since it has been carefully taken care of over the years and has made it in intact into current times as is. I need to come up with somthing that will work and if I replace a buld with a 5w or 10w when it should be 15w I may get a brigher flash or just blow the bulb. I wonder was there a problem or just bad design with the indicator lights on the yamaha ms50 pogal when they first came out in the 1980's as I have seen a couple of them fitted with suzuki fz50 indicators and other makes of bike turn signal indicaters on them. I don't think the flashers are faulty I feel they where just made that way. I could be wrong. I suppose there could be a bad earth on the flashers. Sorry to go on so much about this. Im looking for your suggestions for a brighter indicator flashers which is purely for safety reasons. If car drivers can see where im turning, im less at risk of being nocked off by them. Im thinking a higher or lower wattage incandescent 6v buld or even a replacment 6v led buld ive seen on ebay but as I said. I know nothing about led bulbs or even if they will work on my moped. Would a equivalent 6v 15w led give a brigher flash than a 6v 15w tradisional incandesant bulb? can someone help me here pls Here's the led ive seen on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2pcs-E10-6V-9V-12V-24V-INDICATOR-LIGHT-BULB-LED-WL-ay-/330859527741?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash;=item4d08c3be3d these are the standard 6v 15w bulbs i want to replace with brighter led bulbs http://directshopping4u.com/6voltvehiclelighting/P244A10

IT IS!"I walk up to the car, and reach into my pocket...my keys are chiming off each other as my hand shakes..I unlock the door, and sit inside..checking the sun visor, and to my astonishment, there is a picture of my crush (whom I wont mention)the picture is folded and faded..I get out of the car, and look around..I'm back in Cape Canaveral!in the parking lot of NASA...as I walk with my two friends in the doors, I am greeted by Eric Schmidt (CEO of Google)((which I never knew till i searched for it today after my dream))he says "It'll be great having you with us in our mysterious hunt for the missing items in the Space Station."My friend (cody) says "Wait a second, I forgot my travelers guitar" (in the trunk of his car)so we go to get his guitar and as he's pulling it out, I notice something in his car..A GUN!"Why do you have a gun in your car cody?"as I finished saying that, these two men ride up on a moped and demand (in broken English):"Best not make any sudden movements"as the two guys talk amongst themselves, I whisper to cody"Psst, grab your guitar, and get down"He grabs the guitar, and ducks down as I reach for the gun, which ends up to be a .22-250, and shoot the one guy in the leg, he falls, the other guy pulls from his pants a handgun, he fires three shots, and I fire two, they all miss,I load my second to last shell, and take aim...POWthrough the chin, into the throat, and out his neck my shot traveledhe lays motionless on the ground as his partner, hobbles on to his moped and rides away..I gather myself, and get my friend, as we walk by the entrance to the building I see these two gentlemen playing a tune, my friend sits down, and strums along..they were playing Boom Boom by John Lee Hooker...which incidentally was the song I awoke too this morning....prolly the weirdest, most vivid dream I have ever had...Sorry about the plethora of misspellings, non-capitalization and spotty punctuation.. its late, and I need sleep..

6v to 12 v step up power inverter to charge phone from a 6v motorcycle electrical system. advice sought.

Hi, just below are two pictures and details of different mini 6v to 12v step up power inverters. I have tried to use the smallest sized one out of the two without success. I installed the smallest one on my old 50cc moped with the idea that it would charge my mobile phone as I rode my bike.  My bike has a 6v electrical system, hence the need for a 6v to 12v power inverter. I also bought a 12v incar charger lead from a phone shop. Its the type of lead you plug into your car cigerette lighter to keep your phone fully charged. It charges my phone well inside my car but not on my bike! On my bike. I connected the phone charger lead to the 6v to 12v step up inverter expecting it to charge my phone just as it would do in my car. But no! It does not charge my phone correctly. It seems to send power to my phone in short spurts and gaps. It will charge for 5 to 8 seconds. It then stops charging for 7 seconds and continues to charge for a further 5 to 8 seconds and the cycle repeats over and over. Having it charge this way means that the phone does not receive a good charge and eventually my phone battery goes low and then dies. I think there could be stability issues with this 6v to 12v power inverter. I have found another type of power inverter for sale. The seller says his inverter is quite stable. I may end up replacing the old inverter with the one. I'm hoping it will do the job more successfully than the current inverter im trying but failing to use. Im not technically minded. I have copied and pasted the web addresses of both inverters. On the sites you will see the technical details of both inverters. Would someone please take a look to compare both devices for me please. I am looking for a solution to charging my phone successfully whilst on my bike. Would the bigger inverter be better compared to the smaller one  I have allready installed? This is the inverter I am currently using but doesn't work properly.  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350436684000?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648 And this is the inverter I am thinking of getting to replace the old one.  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DC-DC-Converter-Regulator-Step-up-Step-down-2-1-/150657732239?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Test_Measurement_Equipment_ET&hash;=item2313e68e8f As i said, Im not techinally minded and and looking for your advice. Would the bigger inverter be a good choice to replace the old one to charge my phone. Thanks for replies in advance.
