trouble with motorbike

So I have purchased a 25cc 2 cycle homelite brand trimlite weedeater, and have decided to put it on a bike.  my drive system of choice is friction drive. i have a 1 in diamater alluminum knurled roller that is held on by set screws. my question is, it doesent work. i have no cintrifigul clutch, so i must first pedal to start the bike. then i throttle on the motor and stop peadaling. the motor turns on, but quickly bogs down and dies, and i don't know why. am i doing something wrong? please help. this is very close to the system that i have. https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Strap-a-Leaf-Blower-Engine-to-a-Bike-and-Go/

Guess who just got a motorbike?

Me :pNo seriously, at the food pantry/ thrift store I volunteer at, someone donated a fairly good condition Whizzer Pacemaker II, Midnight Blue. I bought it. It isn't yet registered for road legal, but that's ok because I haven't got my car or bike license so I'll call it a scooter for now. Anyways IT IS AWESOME, just a few paint dings, slightly rusty chrome, broken/missing turn signals and I haven't gotten it to run yet BUT I'M WORKING ON THAT... So anyways, here's some pics:148cc engine, awesome retro looks....

Motorbike starter motor on a Scooter?

Hello! I changed the starter motor on my bike some years ago, and this motor is laying around in my garage since then, working! I always wanted to build an electric vehicle, and i would like to start with an electric scooter! My questions are:  1. Would the motor work and run on a scooter? 2. how much would the battery last? I plan to use a normal motorbike battery, i dont know much in electronics, they are 12V and 10-70Ah 3. will the motor heat up and burn? 4. what range would it have? The motor in question is a Mitsuba, aftermarket mounted on my bike a Honda CR 250 if this helps. Thanks in advance!

LED Turn indicator for Motorbike

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this forum and joined to get some help from all the geniuses here. I'm making  LED turn indicator for my 100cc bike. My present Factory installed flasher rating is 12v 10W X 2bulb. I want to add total of 48 ORANGE LED, 24 in front indcator and 24 in rear indicator. The current drawn would be much less for the flasher to work as the LED would not flash. I want to make 4 parallel set of 6 LED in series. as the total volt would be 2.2v*6 led =13.2. I've achieved the above so far but how to make them blink? Flash would be better then blink !! So can anyone suggest me a simple circuit which I can put in place of factory installed flasher and work the same way. I've 12v 7.2Ah Battery on board. and one thing more If I hook up a 55w/55w headlamp directly to the above battery how long will it last. I'll be grateful for the pain you take for me... Thank You Gurdeep

New Group : Scooter Trash - For all of you Bikers, Bikies, Motorcyclists, 1%ers, Citizens and Independants

I've started a new group dedicated to motorcycles and the lifestyle that goes with them. Scooters, Mopeds, Trikes, Sportbikes, Choppers, Bobbers, Cruisers, Tourers: They all count. Feel free to join if you have something to add, or if you're interested in bikes. To me, motorcycles represent freedom. Freedom to go. Freedom to be. Freedom from convention. Freedom to live. Freedom to ride. When you're on a bike with the breeze in your face, bugs in your teeth, and wind in your hair, nothing else matters. Bills, ills, drought, loss, death, strain, stress: all gone while that engine is pounding, and those wheels are rolling. My parents treated them as if they were evil, and I agreed, FOR A WHILE. When I was 17, while they were out of town on vacation, I bought my first bike. It was a beat up 20 year old Harley. It almost never ran, (so Mom and Dad calmed down) but it started a permanent love-affair with cycles. I've owned nearly 50 bikes over the last 20 years, and still own 11 of them. Note: I just went over the list, and I've owned 41 complete bikes, and 17 parts/project bikes, not to mention a barn full of miscellaneous spare parts. So tell me, What do you ride? What do you want to ride? Why do you ride? How long have you been riding? Good/Bad experiences?

Increase the speed of an electric motor? Answered

My electric bike, seen here, was built for my senior project. I was limited on motor choice, and had to go with the best I had, an old powerchair motor. After 2 successfull attempts at building an electric bike, I have discovered that it is impossible to go faster that 25 mph with with one of these motors. As you can see on my instructable the bike has 6 speeds, with a top speed of 20mph in first gear. however, when I shift gears, the motor rpm's decrease instead of the speed increasing. I have heard before that it is possible to run an electric motor at higher voltages than it is rated, so I was wondering, if i could add a seperate switch and a "booster battery" of sorts, that as long as I monitered the voltage so as to not let exceed 24 volts, if this would be feasible. My only other option would be to add a second motor in parallel with the first, and on the same drive belt. The first option would be the easiest, if it could work without damaging the motor. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, iloveairsoftstuff

World's Heaviest Motorcycle

Monster bike is world's heaviestA giant motorbike powered by a Russian tank engine has been recognised as the heaviest in the world. It's been dubbed the Led Zeppelin by creator Tilo Nieber, 39, who said: "You don't get much more heavy metal than this."The four-and-a-half tonne machine has driven into the Guinness Book of Records as the heaviest motorbike in the world. It is 17ft 4ins long and 7ft 6ins tall and the engine alone weighs 1.8 tonnes after the armour plating tank cover has been stripped off.The bike, which took a team of welders and mechanics almost a year to build at the Harzer Bike Schmiede in Zilly, Germany, is now hoping for a licence to travel on the road. But in the meantime Guinness Book of Records spokesman Amarilis Espinoza confirmed it was the world's heaviest motorbike.

Motorcycle communication without expensive BT headsets!

When it comes to communicating with the person on your back seat then often there is no need for a fancy BT headset.Unless of course you are constaly driving on freeways at high speed and love to talk ;)The most annoying thing though is when you want to go for a long ride with a lot of your mates. Some might already have some BT headset, most might not have anything to communicate.Even with just 8 or 10 riders in your group, loosing one is easy. The most advanced headsets now offer functions for automatic pairing when the connection was lost - they come at a price though.Around here there is two problems to face when going for long rides.a) communication range for the riders in the group.b) cellphone coverage is usually non existing when you actually need it.So why not go with something totally different and much cheaper than BT headsets? At highway speeds the range of BT headsets suffers not just from the required safety distance between riders but also from the spped itself.Cheap headsets just crap out all the time, expensive one tend to loose the connections quite often.Wouldn't it be great to have more than the average 800 meters of good sound quality without dropouts? And if you ever tried to have a decent converstation with another at high speeds you already know that even the best BT headsets struggle with the wind noise unless you have a really optimised helmet (and paid a lot for it).The alternative, if we trust all the hype and advertsiements would be to go for the latest generation of headsets out there....Baofeng UV-5 series....This type of UHF/VHF handheld radio has ben around for years. It is not only quite cheap but also able to put a full 4W out.So called battery eliminators to power them directly from a 12V socket (in your car) are cheap as well, but a good battery should last for a few hours. The benefit of these cheap radios however is not that they are so cheap. It is that you can actually program whatever frequency you like for your needs.Of course you should stick to the frequencies and channels that are free and legal to use in your area. The since is about what a pack of smokes is, so no problem to mount it descreetly on your dash or handlebars either.Being a radio there is no need for pairing or making sure you stick to the correct order when doing things. If you want to be "alone" on a channel you can even use celectcall and other option to make sure only those radios with the right callsigns wil open your squelch.Quite nice if you suddenly get into an area where your channel is used by ther people.Ok, a handheld radio might work, but what about the antenna? The UV5 series usually ships with two antennas.A short stubby that is good for about 1-2km - line of sight. And a small external antenna with a magnetic base.On a bigger bike it is often no problem to add a 15x15cm plate behind the seat that the antenna can pop on to.Should only be required if your require a bigger distance though. And why would a UHF radio be any better with the background or wind noise?Biggest problem with these expensive BT headsets is that you need to get really creative if you want to change the speakers or microphone. And options are quite limited here again - either a flexible microphone or a glue on one.Neither is really good once the wind gets too much. For the UV5 series you get so called throat microphones for under 10 bucks.Often advertised as tacticle headsets but for the price nowhere near the quality of a military grade combination. They plug straight into the handheld and come with an external push button that can be used to start a manual transmission. But of course you can automate this on the UV5 as well by selecting the voice activation mode in the menu.Set the level so high that you need a slightly rised voice to start the transmission.(That way not everyone needs to hear you swearing about other drivers if you keep it quite ;) )All up a solution like this will cost you well under $100, with all required extras. For a bit more you can also get UHF radios for helmet use.Basically the same like the handheld option, but smaller, a bit more convient to use and set up but also very limited in range and battery life.

Joule Thieves. I know how they work (my one works fine) , but is a joule thief self-regulating and self-limiting? Could I hook it up to a 12V source? Is a varying input voltage okay? -- Will the voltage/current across my white LED (should be 2.6VDC absolute max) be too high or surge? Is your Bottom made out of Iron? Ever taken a Serious motorbike trip? Daytona? Sturgis? The Big Easy?

Ok, a friend (one of our church members) has asked me to come visit. He's got a contract flying Choppers and Cropdusters for the next two months. We used to eat breakfast together about three times a week when he was in town, and he said if I'll ride up there, he's buying. Problem is, he's 500 miles away. I can't afford to drive the Tahoe, and I don't trust my crackerbox (18 year old Mazda). I think I'm going to take the Goldwing. I've never really ridden more than about 200 miles in a day, but I'll only have about 3 days to make this voyage (1000 miles round trip). What do you think? Is it do-able for a sleep deprived, rapidly-aging, and slightly-overweight desk-jockey?
