Hi, I purchased a Honda Goldwing and with all the accidents and what not, I want to get a camera that will mount on the bike so if something happens I have a video of it. I don't know anything about them and I would like to be somewhat thrifty in price. Any Ideas? Thanks

From The Kneeslider:Steampunk is all about the design and very little concerned with added (or lost) function but some of it would be neat if it worked half as well as you wish it would. That's about my take on it; my aesthetic sense says "ooh, shiny" and "mmm, leather" and "lovely scrollwork there, that would be fun to make" and my engineer side says "but...but...shouldn't those gears be doing something?" In any case, The Kneeslider has a piece on steampunk motorcycles, including the Hubbard Steamcycle, which may eventually actually run on steam, and a German bike that's a one-cylinder, 1440 cc machine with a shovel for a seat. Several other steampunk (or even steam-engine) bikes are mentioned in the comment section, as well. The 1908 Field Steam Bike includes "To progress gently move cut off lever and PRAY" as step 10 of the startup procedure, and this sleek little machine would be perfect for any aspiring steampunk supervillain. And from the nigh-venerable Steampunk Workshop, a piece on Tom Sepe's Whirlygig Emoto, a beautifully-crafted "electric-steam hybrid motorcycle."

Check out this fantastic thing, someone has knitted and crocheted a cosy for an entire motorcycle! Some of the pix are clearly from a gallery so this is obviously Art. It probably says a lot about the dichotomy of speed and slowness or metal and wool or the hardness of modernity vs the softness of your grandmother's afghans or something... Either way, how awesome is this! Robert, I want your bike. (I could not find these pix on equality.ws as they're watermarked... if anyone knows the original source please post it!)

I'd like to build something similar to the 'Krazy Eyes' product from Tripage ( http://www.tripageled.com/PAGES/600rr07.htm#KrazyEyes ) and would like to have it fade out or turn off after a few minutes after the ignition on the bike is turned off.I'm an electronics NOOB (honestly, can't read diagrams or anything) but I do know that a capacitor may work to keep the LEDs on a bit after the bike is turned off. Thanks for any insight into this issue!

For the design part of my art folio am creating a futuristic helmet. I want to put green led strips on the inside of the visor. The helmet won't need to be powered for long maybe and hour at the most. It will need to be worn for a few photos, so I can't have huge battries and switches , I need to make this as compact and hidden even if the wire just runs down my neck and the batteries in my back pocket. I have the helmet but no idea how am going to do the rest so could someone please give me a non technological person who only knows that battries have power give me a guide to making this , and hopefully as cheap as possible . I already have the helmet.

Monster bike is world's heaviestA giant motorbike powered by a Russian tank engine has been recognised as the heaviest in the world. It's been dubbed the Led Zeppelin by creator Tilo Nieber, 39, who said: "You don't get much more heavy metal than this."The four-and-a-half tonne machine has driven into the Guinness Book of Records as the heaviest motorbike in the world. It is 17ft 4ins long and 7ft 6ins tall and the engine alone weighs 1.8 tonnes after the armour plating tank cover has been stripped off.The bike, which took a team of welders and mechanics almost a year to build at the Harzer Bike Schmiede in Zilly, Germany, is now hoping for a licence to travel on the road. But in the meantime Guinness Book of Records spokesman Amarilis Espinoza confirmed it was the world's heaviest motorbike.

Im making a log cabin in my back garden, im short for space so its 16ft wide and 10ft deep. I dont want to reverse the bike out of the shed each time so im going to make a turntable, id like it to be electric but I dont know how. Here are the engineering plans for the turntable, dont worry about how im getting the 50mm circle in the concrete, im doing that with a polythene plug. Im going to use the largest "Lazy Susan 24" to hold and turn the middle of the table, then im going to use min i fixed casters to keep the edges stable. Im an engineer so I can maipulate any metal on my lathe/mill etc. Ive thought of 2 ways to use the winch to turn the table: 1- Bellow the table: exchanging the wire for a pulley system which will turn the lazy susan, im not eqactly sure how this will work. 2- Above the table, Very easy, exchange the wire for a rubber wheel that will turn the edge of the table. Question: If anyone can think of any better, easier ideas id love to hear from you? Regards ant... email@example.com

Hi. I've recently been hooked on motorcycles. I'd love to get one and start riding and working on one. There are a few problems. First off, I'm only 13 years old, but I'm 5'11" and 160 lbs. I know that it's illegal for me to ride a motorcycle, and I'm not even sure if I can take a mfs course at this age. I wouldn't be riding on any big roads, and would barely even ride it, besides riding it to my best friends house (he'd help me work on it, his dad is into bikes, and he only lives a few miles away), and around a few back roads in my neighborhood. My dad has been riding motorcycles for before I was born, and has multiple types and sizes of bikes (he has a touring Harvey, I believe it's a VRSC, a ninja 600, and a dirt bike which I don't know the model of). He could teach me and show me how to properly ride a motorcycle. Also, I don't know what kind of bike to get. I've heard dual purpose bikes are good for starters, but I really have no idea where to start. I'd appreciate input. Preferably it'd be a bike that I could work on and modify/upgrade as I go along. Thirdly, is price. I don't really know my exact budget, but it'd be around $600-$700. I know it's barely anything, but I'd have to pay for the bike myself, and that's all I have. If it's even possible to purchase a bike at this price point, it doesn't even have to run, I'd love your input. Ideally I'd like to keep everything to the absolute bare minimum, as cheap as possible. My dad already has safety gear, and I could borrow it if I rode my bike. Again, thanks for your input, and any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

So I was looking for a clean looking motorcycle helmet with a camera sort of like the Go Pro but I wanted it to be embedded in the helmet. And I came across the Momentum Pro helmet which is still in the pre-order phase and it can't be shipped to my country anyway. So what sort of materials do I need to build one like the Momentum. or at least of decent resemblance? Thanks in advance.

Bought a set of 26" side illuminating red led strips and cut them down to two with 9 leds and two with 6 leds (not really important) as all will be wired into the same connections. What i would like to do is have them all on as running lights and then come on even brighter once the brake switch/pedal is used. I have seen some of the other posts concerning this but feel that they do not deal with strip lights, but individual leds. Thanks for any help.

Hey guys im building an enclosed recumbent motorcycle and i am a bit stuck. im making the outer skin. to get a working aerodynamic shape, complex curves and all i want to use some flexible sheet which i can connect to the strong points of the motorcycle. i am thinking of using that polypropilene chicken wire, and i wonder if it would be good enough to be the base of the fairing and put fibreglass on top. my brother wants to use cedar strips as a base and cardboard strips mounted over them and fibreglass the resultant mess. then bondo the lot. any ideas. i am not describing this very well. a single sheet of a flexible matting will save me the trouble of making a mould of the fairing. thanks guys.

I was recently given a project bike, a 1973 Yamaha CT3. The engine was partially disassembled and the magneto was taken apart. I'm trying to reassemble it, but I'm not sure what wires to hook up where. The schematic I have is a top level schematic of the entire bike. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm trying to get it looking like the picture, but now it's only in pieces. I've uploaded some pics of what I have reassembled so far. The capacator is still on the bike. I added the coils back to the plate of the stator, but no wires are connected.

Have tons of spark, clean carb, fuel runs out the fuel line, when un pluged from the carb. It as a small 6 volt battery, that was checked and is putting out more than 6 volts, checked the switch on the kickstand, even un pluged the switch and tried it with the ends pluged together ,eliminating the switch,no diff... when I pull the plug I can run fuel into the plug hole replacing the plug with tons of spark ,key on,lights on dash lit up and nothing.tried removing the side cover ,put a socket on the crankshaft nut holding the lflywheel on ,with an impact driver ,spun the nut off after a number of attempts with locktite.never once even fired.it has points, if the points are closed, can it have spark at the plug? if it has spark, why wont it even fire?checked all the wires for anything un pluged and have spun all the connectors ,hoping for continuity. has compression ,as much as a 50 can have, when it came home you could rotate the kick starter by hand and it purred,Havent checked the switch on the handelbar that has 3 positions.only when checking for spark ,noticed saturday that when the plug was out and grounded and sparking, when you switched it to the off position and kick it over the first 1 or 2 kicks it would spark then no spark till you switched it to the on position.next move is a big long downhill,or a mandrel to drive the flywheel, via the holes in it with pins sticking out of a disk driven by the impact driver. will investigate the points and confirm there opening. replaced plug with new correctly gaped one

Hey guys, I am working on a custom barebones motorcycle. I want to make the starting system incredibly simple by just carrying a keycard or fob that can be sensed within 4-5 feet of the bike which would allow me to just kick start it and go. I worked in access control before and to my knowledge the cards and fobs needed to be placed basically on top of a sensor to activate it, is there any way to give in just a touch more range? so just having it in my pocket would close the circuit and allow me to kick start the bike? wiring it in isn't a problem, I just need a switch that would sense a fob 4-5 feet away and close a switch. thanks! Rob
