Wireless control of a NC relay?

I'm sort of a newbie when it comes to this stuff. Originally I planned on just putting in a NC momentary switch. Now my idea has evolved, I would like a momentary switch to wirelessly control a relay. How would I go about setting up a wireless transmitter/reciever. Whether it be IR or something else.

How to use a nc switch to activate a buzzer when pressed Answered

Hi there i don't know if this is possible but, i want to be able to : have a buzzer come on when a nc switch is pressed, for example, i have an emergency stop switch which is nc, so when pressed the circuit is broken, i would like it so when i press the switch ( ie it breaks the contact ), it makes a buzzer sound and an led come on to notify that the emergency stop has been pressed, i am using 8 core Ethernet cable to connect the emergency stop switches so if i have a circuit in every switch , i can do the same in every stop switch with the cable i am using, i want a buzzer and an led in EVERY emergency stop switch, i will have 3 in total, is it just the case of wiring the circuit in the one emergency stop and connecting the leds and buzzers from the others in Parallel at the other stop switches ?, or do they have to be wiring in series ? i have got 6v and 12v buzzers and many value of resistors so the source voltage for powering them really wont be a problem, the biggest problem is building the circuit, because atm it is a nc switch so if i connected an led and buzzer, it would be connected all the while, i need to somehow use the nc switch to break a circuit but also use it as a no switch for the buzzer circuit, if this is possible please leave a comment and help if you can, i have looked on google but cant really find anything, thanks EDIT !!!! hi also ad an addon to the question, the nc switch will be switching 230v, so the live cable will be cut and put accros the nc contacts, will this still work with iceng circuit or is that a big nono ?

Large NC (Normally Closed) Switch

I am currently working on a project which requires a larger NC switch. The concept is that when someone sits on the switch, the current will be blocked and not flow. When the person stands up, the current will flow through the circuit. This specific switch has to be flat enough for someone to sit on. Does anybody have any ideas on how to build one?

How can I change a normally open switch to a normally closed. My Alarm panel needs NC and my boiler alarm is NO.

I want to attach my boiler to my alarm panel to an extra zone I have.  Problem is my alarm panel wants to see it NC until there's trouble and then wants to see it NO when it's tripped or in alarm.  My boiler alarms points are NO until the boiler goes into lock out and then it goes NC.  I would like to know if there is a way to add "something" so that i can monitor my boiler and know if it goes into alarm.  My boiler is a Weil Mcclain Ultra seris 3 with a U-control system if that helps.

How to change Gerber RS247 to GRBL g code with .nc file monikers

I have bought a 1610 cnc milling machine which use .nc gcode files. The machine came with pcb manufacturing software Coppercam. I use Fritzing ( which I find is easy to use and very good for my purposes) to design the pcb and the export the pcb via Gerber RS247. This gives .gbl , gtl, and drill text files that are then imported into CopperCam. I then do all the contours for the circuits and hatching for the board which work fine. Trying to do the drills, if it is not an Excellon file, does not seem to work in that the drill holes do not show on the screen. Fritzing does not export Excellon files. If I look in the drills section the number of holes required are listed. The I try to create an export file that I send to the milling machine. The sample etching templates that came with the machine are .nc gcode files. I have tried all the option of output from Coppercam but nothing works. I would appreciate some advice on both mentioned problems without having to get new software as the exchange rate for south African currency to any other is pure murder. Thank you in advance Atilla the Hun

Help: hacking fog machine with timer relay

Hello, everyone. I need a little help! I'm not very skilled in circuits, but I have already did something similar with a different device (following some tutorials from instructables); this time the same approach seems not working.I have a sensor which triggers a timer relay; when the relay is triggered on i would like to switch on my fog machine (which is already turned on and heated) and spread the fog until relay reset. From the relay I have a COM and the NO(/NC) output.I need to connect those outputs to my fog machine cable controller (which i cannot unmount completely). I attach here some photos of my circuit. The first image shows a red area (short circuit!), and two green areas (fires fog): if i connect the relay output there (COM or NO or NC) circuits reacts even if the relay is off.I have tried connecting the relay out to blue/white wires but nothing happens. What can i do? I'm starting to think to connect only NO (or NC) to both blue and white wires. Any help is appreciated.Thank you so much.- - - - - EDIT - - - - -Thanks for the first 2 replies: connecting COM and NO to blue and white cable was the first thing i did, but with no success. I tried again (maybe i was doing wrong), but again no success. I add 4 new pics of the circuit from above (i have dismounted it). Hope it is much clearer now. Thanks again for your support.

Need to operate a timer with a remote

I have a 6 Volt radio frequency remote control pair and a separate board with a 5 to 12 Volt timer circuit that turns power off to a load after 1 to 300 seconds. The timer circuit uses capacitors and resistors including a variable resistor plus a 555 too plus jumpers from Amazon.com to see a picture,it lists as: GEREE Timer Relay Switch 1-300 second 5V 9V 12v DC input TIME OVER RESET Delay. Will it work if I connect the RFRC to power and then from there wire to the timer and then wire the timer to my load so that I can remotely make the timer circuit  operate my load for the set time? I ask so as not to burn a thing that takes weeks to get. Will the 1 channel remote control receiver's single relay reset back into a NO condition from NC after current stops flowing from the battery power and through he remote control's 5 pin relay into the capacitor(s) of the timer circuit, that is to say, will the remote relay reset to NO after the timer's single relay goes back from NC to NO after the capacitor(s) run out of charge? As a note, I have had very little success finding a remote controlled timer in the 6 Volt range. 12 Volt remotes with timers are easier to find but that is too much power, size and expense for my application. Know of a supplier? If I have enough of this correct to make sense then any wisdom in this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Vince

Licence = Copyright and Patent?

I have a few projects that I plan to place up, but I want a little bit of assurance that my ideas will be safe in general from people that might want to copy. I sometimes use the by-nc-nd as a way to keep my ideas up, but I was wondering if the idea can be kept in my ownership. I know that pictures have copyright protection (along bottom of pictures if clicked to see single pictures), so it might mean that it's protected in a way. Does this seem confusing? To put everything down shortly, does placing Instructables up provide copyright protection and/or patents when using the right license? Thanks, username252

How to connect physical pushbuttons to a computer for use in a soundboard program?

I plan to do a project that will use 28 arcade style pushbuttons to activate 28 different sounds on a computer. Any ideas on products out there I can use to connect all 28 buttons to a computer, preferably with a USB cable, so it can be used in a programming language such as C++? One idea I had was to take apart a QWERTY keyboard, but I still want to be able to use my regular keyboard to use my computer. Alternatively, is there a way for two keyboards to be connected to same computer, but one of them only activates a specific program? i.e. trying to type in notepad with it wouldn't work?

Musician - let's collab on I'ble: make your tune mixable-from-phone

I've written a mobile-friendly web-based audio-mixing toy called SynPhonia. You can see a demo at http://j.mp/synpho (from computer or phone). In the demo, I used a sample pack by DJ Vadim  that's available under a Creative-Commons license. If you're a musician and you want such a toy for one of your tunes (because it's fun and because it promotes your music) - we can do this together and write an I'ble about it. If you have a web server that can run all the stuff we need (python cgi, sox, lame) - cool. If you don't - we can do it on my server (no charge. I'm only doing this for fun). Anyone interested? Note [This might be obvious to most of you, but just to be on the safe side]: Your samples will be distributed under one of the Creative Commons licenses (I recommend the by-nc-sa variety, but it's your call). One thing you can't do is use any of the *nd* (no derivatives) licenses, since derivatives are exactly what people will be doing with your music :) This means that people will be able to use your samples in their own music, but they'll need to give you credit (usually this is done by a link, and that's good for your SEO).  They should also conform to other conditions depending on the type of licnese you choose (e.g. you can limit this to non-commercial use by choosing one of the *nc* licenses). Bottom line: If you're too attached to your music to afford such conditions (or if your song is already copyrighted to a non-cc record label), this is not for you :)

Is this a CC Licensing violation?

I came across a blog that shared my DIY rotary tool project which is under CC-BY-NC-SA.  I am new to this licensing thing, but how the project has been shared by the blog doesn't feel right to me.  The blog admin has downloaded the images and stl files from my instructable and uploaded directly to their website and in the 'parts required' list they have put affiliate links. Does it violate the Non-Commercial license?  At the end of the article, they have a small link to my instructable.  Is this legal to do so and within the limits of the Creative Common license? If yes, What can I do in the future so that other people are not using my projects for making easy money? Thanks.

Arduino messaging system

Hi everybody, Not long ago I had an idea about a messaging system based on a simple client-server architecture. Nothing new so far, but my idea was to optimize any exchanged message or sentence for a 4x20 LCD display, so that an arduino client could be easily coded. In fact, I liked the idea so much, that I already wrote a server prototype, as well as the arduino client. I gave this project the name "C0ldWater". The client is based on an arduino board, which uses an ethernet shield for internet connectivity, a 4x20 lines LCD display as an output device and a ps/2 keyboard for user input. I also bought a VPS, on which I run the server and a blog. You can reach it at www.c0ldwater.com and you will find all information and instructions to build such a device, as well as all code to be downloaded. So why am I posting here? Easy question, so here's my easy answer: because I already went through a first sort of alpha testing on my own, but I still need some help from anyone who's interested in this project, to get some feedback about his/her personal user experience in order to understand what sort of modifications I eventually need to implement. Nothing difficult or boring, just connect to the service and use it as a normal user: register, read, send, forward, delete or list messages and so on. I'd like to receive any suggestion, criticism or just your first impressions about the project. For those interested, but without the required hardware, I also wrote a simple linux client that can be downloaded from my site. It just creates two threads, one for receiving and one for sending data. Anyway, if you're still stacked with the win OS, you can download "netcat" and use that to connect to c0ldwater: "nc c0ldwater 8889" or "nc 5.9.252.156 8889". Thanks in advance to all of you! Cheers

automatic switching of street lights by using ldr and relay

hey me and my friends were ton a project of automatic switching of a street light depending on the brightness in the surroundings. so we decided to use an ldr(light dependent resistor). here in this circuit ldr has low resistance in brightness(only few ohms) and very high resistance in complete  darkness(nearly 1M ohm).so the transistor Q1 becomes on in day times and Q2 becomes off and hence the relay remains in NC(normally closed) state and the lamp will not glow. at night the transistor Q1 becomes OFF and Q2 becomes ON and hence the relay goes to NO(normally open) state and the lamp glows.and the sensitivity of the device can be varied by adjusting the potentiometer  now i just want to know are there any defects in this circuit so can u please help me in knowing the drawbacks and correcting them and i want to know whether i can connect a relay in place of a fuse as shown at bottom

Smart battery charger

I am trying to build a smart charger that will charge a Ni-Mh 2/3a 1200mah 9.6v charger. By smart I mean that it will stop when the battery is full, then if it drops below, say 9.4v, it will charge it to that again. Most of them also have a discharging button that will bring the voltage down before charging it. For the charger part I found this websitehttp://www.elecdesign.com/Articles/Index.cfm?AD=1&AD;=1&ArticleID;=1823Which details how to make a charger that will charge a 13.3v battery. Of course, mine is 9.6v, so it would have to be modified. The current "dumb" charger for the battery just gives it 12v @ 250ma. The smart charger also is powered off 220vac, which is not good because I live in the US. IS there a way to make it work off the 12v 250ma charger? Also, the circled components (the overlay thingy wasn't working), what are they? the no/nc one might be a switch, and the RL1 one could be...a relay?

The Olympics are supposed to be the "green" Olympics this year.Since they are going to be held in Beijing they are going to have a fun time making it green. One way they are doing this is all the aircraft that will be flying the athletes will be powed by bio-fuel derived from the jatropha tree. The people in charge of the commercials and filming it wanted to make a way to inform the people watching about this.At Full Belly(who has their headquarters in Wilmington NC) they make various machines designed to shell nuts.Jock Brandis(head-honcho, inventor of the nut sheller) was contacted and asked to make an electric Jatropha sheller. This sheller is going to be shipped down to Miami and will shell Jatropha nuts at a Jatropha farm while being filmed and a commercial will be born.I am helping make this sheller at the headquarters! So my finger prints(and a little tiny bit of blood) will be in the Olympics! (not really, just in a commercial during the Olympics)So, if you do nothing at all with your life, make sure you at least watch the Olympics to see the commercial!

Control bulb with inductive proximity sensor

Please see attached diagrams in my other message below. I am using an NPN NC inductive proximity sensor (specs attached) to control a light bulb. The bulb is normally on and goes off when metal is detected. It is a 12v/21w bulb, powered by 12VDC. I have placed a heat sinked TIP120 NPN High Power Darlington Transistor 60V 5A TO-220 , a 2.2K 0.25W resistor and a 560R 0.25W resistor as shown in the circuit diagram on the right. Please ignore the left diagram for the LED. voltage readings for sensor with no metal detected: Between brown and black: 12.06/07V & -12.03/04V. Between blue and black: 0.0033V & -0.0032V (3.3mV & -3.2mV)  with metal detected: brown/black: -0.6/7mV & 0.7mV  Blue/Black: 11.96/97V & -11.93V Although the sensor is powered and detects metal ok, the bulb stays on. The polarity of tIP120 is correct and gives out heat ok. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong so could you please see an obvious error?? thank you

Be aware that, if Obrary share your projects, they will share them under the licence of BY-CC-SA, allowing other people to profit from your work. When I discovered this, I agreed, as long as I got to share in the income being generated by my work. Obrary went quiet. If you want to share your projects through Obrary, that's up to you (a quick search shows that at least one Instrucabler has allowed their work to be shared), but you need to remember that their business model involves monetising your work, without any of the income coming to you. They profit, you lose out. You have been warned.

what to do with most of a 36v scooter?

So i rescued this 36v 500w electric scooter from the trash. the charger with it was broken so i scored one off ebay for $9. i charged it up and it actually worked but for the most part was useless to me as it was too slow for me but at the same time too fast and unstable for my kids. so it sat next to my house for several months and when i charged it up today and turned it on the speed control burnt up(ants had built a nest inside and shorted it). so now i have everything else which is still good(motor, batteries, frame and wheels etc) and seems a shame to waste it. i could buy a new speed control off ebay for $25 but like i said it wasnt very useful as it was. any ideas for what to use these parts for without a speed controller? some thoughts i had were electric bike or electric mower. i also have some powerwheels laying around just begging to be hot rodded. also if anyone in the charlotte nc area can have it if you promise to build something cool out of it.

Speaker headphone disconnect for mP3 player with amplifier and headphones

Hi, I am working with a Flyron FN-M16 MP3 player module which has both output for headphones (pins 4,5, and GND = 7), and a 3-watt amplifier for speakers (pins 6 & 8).  The problem I am having is that I am unsure of how to disconnect power to the speakers when headphones are plugged into the jack.  This is easy when you have a separate amplifier circuit, but here the amplifier is built in. The easiest solution would be to find an audio jack with an isolated NC (normally closed switch) to disconnect the speakers.  They do not seem to make them in SMD packages.  I have found a 3.5mm stereo audio jack with an isolated NO (normally open) switch from Technik.HK.  Is there a mosfet type circuit that I can use to disconnect the speakers when the NO switch is closed without introducing any distortion to the speaker sound?  Any advice for an electronic disconnect?    P.S:  The manufacturer has stated that if I ground the speaker outputs for the 3-watt speakers I will blow out the internal amplifier on the flyron Mp3 player board.

How to build battery pack 9.6v from 18650 batteries?

I would like to create a good battery pack for my dead hilti drill. Originel nc-cd 9.6v battery. I have some panasonic cgr18650cg batterys here.  But when 3 in series, the voltage is higher. Maybe the drill can work with a higher voltage but I dont know. Will it work, would like to create first a 3S pack and maybe later a 3S2P  I need a PCB and thinking something like this one : http://www.ebay.nl/itm/12-6V-8A-w-Balance-Li-ion-Lithium-18650-Battery-BMS-PCB-Charger-Protection-Board-/321853922824?hash=item4aeffd1e08 Or this one? http://www.ebay.nl/itm/3-Cells-Li-ion-Battery-18650-14450-Input-Ouput-Protection-Board-PCB-12-6V-8A-/321804037521?hash=item4aed03ed91 And how to charge a pack, can I use a common 12v laptop adapter or other adapters or specia li-ion charger? I dont think the original ni-cd charger can be used with pcb's above?
