I've got a new shed! I am now the proud possessor of two sheds. The new one is just storage - garden chairs, tents (we have six tents, but there are only four people in the household - how did that happen?), lawnmower etc, which means I now have something novel in my original shed - space to work! At the same time, I've bought myself a new toy - a scroll saw (or fret saw, if you prefer), a Ferm FFZ-400N, if you're bothered by that kind of thing. It's second hand, and only has one speed and no manual, but it was also only £20. So, I'm now practising - I bought some cheap ply, and I'm working on a new project, which I hope to post by Wednesday. Unfortunately, there's a bit of a hiatus, since I've managed to snap the only blade I had. What the heck, that's why they come in packs of ten, but I can't get a pack until Monday. Oh, and the shed: 6x4 foot "lap" shed from B&Q;, bought as a kit because I couldn't buy the raw materials anywhere near as cheaply. Basically, I got what I paid for - I spent as much time fixing the manufacturing faults as I did building it. There are three fixes visible in the shot below, plus three fixes inside, not to mention the six or seven places where you can see daylight through the timber, and the very flexible window that will probably get sucked out by the first storm of winter... If you need a shed, and can only afford £135, then save up for something better.

Hi everyone. My previous name 222222222539 was not only long and annoying but stupid and pointless, so I decided to change it to Electroinnovation. Also, from this point forward, I will only be bringing you technological and electrical instructables, starting with my compact electric scooter and multi-color bike underglow. I am currently awaiting for parts for both but I expect them to be finished within the next month. So from now on expect many great innovative instructables, most with very detailed instructions, coming from me about every month or so.

Some of you know, some of you don't, but I started a new job today, at a local new high school. Instructables came up in my interview, and as a result we are starting an Instructables club, starting Thursday lunchtime. First project will be my paper catapult, but we may start encouraging them to publish their own projects over the next few weeks. Weeee....

First off, Hi to everyone! I made a VU meter using the LM3914N and RGB LEDs. My "new" idea is to create 2 modes "VU meter" and "lamp". I can't figure out a way to do this with a single switch. At first I though it was simple...Oh just put a switch on the 10 LEDs going into the LM3914 and send it to ground. WRONG! Any help would be great! Thanks! P.S. I'm new to all this.

There's been a new release of the site! Read more below and leave your thoughts in the new comments section. The commenting has changed slightly, there is now no "rich editor button". It's been replaced by highlighting the text and the formatting options float on top. Also when commenting, when you click the 'add images' you may notice that the new image uploader modal (the same one used in the new editor) replaces the old image uploader. If you don't see these changes you need to clear your browser cache (not just cookies). Then, refresh the page and click in the comments box. As with all changes to the site, we're experimenting to see how this rolls out and what we need to tweak. We're going to stick with this for now and gather some data. Please leave your feedback below!

Instructables should have a thing so if some one is band that they can not have the same name and make a new account.

So what does everybody think of the new Instructables design, personally, i dont like it. Its too confusing for me. What do you think?

Is there going to be a blog post documenting the new features? I like the new interface, but it will take a few days to get used to. There are a few bugs here and there. Like when I click Tool Tips Group, I get to a page where there are no projects. Also, post counts seem to be a little out of whack. Each visit seems to raise it by 10.

I have noticed that when I go on an instructable, all of the details and related 'ibles are now to the left, instead of the right. Is this just me, or everyone?

What should be my new instructable related to arduino.Anyone got ideas
Question by Bot1398 | last reply
I, being a freak who reads every new instructable, don't like the new layout. I used to hit "ALL", then sort by "RECENT" so I could see all the new stuff for the day... Now when I hit "ALL" it just stays on the home page, and there is no "RECENT" section. I am not about to go through every tab "All, Art, Craft, etc etc" and scroll to the bottom to find the "RECENT" header for each and every page. Thats a lot more work than many are willing to do. Really, folks, I would love to have the old functionality back. Is there a way to view it the old way?
Topic by TFD2 | last reply
Last night we released a new header, it quickly gives you access to all the areas of instructables that you know and love! If you see any issues please put them in the bugs forum, thanks!

I'm a very compulsive browser, and when I noticed that all the categories were no longer laid out in a neat little row at the top of the page, well i left and went here icanhascheezburger.com .. check the lay out.. kinda looks like the old one instructables had.. everything easy to find with out jumping through hoops. That's my $0.02

What is the difference between posting topics and Instructables here? It looks like people use them both to do the same thing... Are topics like test-runs for people's ideas and if the people request it, that person will make it an Instructable? please and thank you

Wow, I have to say the changes to Instructables were not good ones. You took a perfectly usable interface for the projects and managed to make it harder to use. I feel frustrated that I had to dig to get what I wanted. And this whole Ace branding scheme, guess it's time for the site creators to cash out, right? Really, you've taken a site I enjoyed visiting and made it useless.

There is a new K'nexer on the site named tylerbuilds, and he has posted two 'Ibles, but hasn't gotten many views or comments. So far I've been the main one to talk to him. His creations are pretty good, and he shows some promise. If you could wiuld you please go to his page and check out his stuff and drop a comment or two? Also, you could give him some nice constructive tips about K'nexing. Just welcome him to the community! :) He uses the Instructables app, so he cannot directly reply to you, so please keep checking if you have time. Thanks! -Nerfrock'

Ok. I play guitar and I really want to learn bass. My mind thinks more (rythmically) like a bass. I want to learn bass badly. I am probably going to get the Fender Squier J Bass, as it sells new for only $180 at guitar center, and i really like fenders guitars. Anything I should know? I need all the help I can get. Thanks, freeza36 (soon to be bassist)

I'm sure people are aware but http://www.newscientist.com/In this weeks issue:Someone in China has spent some time analysing the US power grid, and figured out that it could be collapsed by taking-out a lightly-loaded sub-network. The US department of homeland security is apparently looking into this. However, Prof Ian Fells (a jolly chap with a beard) of Newcastle University UK says "they only need a bunch of guys with Semtex to blow up the gridlines near a power station"The Mythbusters are interviewed, but even they don't know why thermite on ice explodes, do you?And Richard Dawkins has a new book out, from the review:"Implying that your audience is stupid does not qualify as a great new angle. Yet this is precisely what Dawkins does"."It's really kind of comical. If "spot the condecensions" is a new drinking game, then bottoms up! There's one in just about every chapter"LThere's much more, but I mainly wanted to post the Mythbusters link, and the Dawkins review.(There is an article on Velociraptors)

We need a new button on instructables pages...a printer friendly button! Like you see on other sites, you would click it and it would give you a nice, cleaned up, ads and image free, printer friendly version of the 'ible. What do you think?EDIT:aHA! I found it! But Canida is right, it dosen't turn out perfect. And, IMO, it needs to be way more prominent. It was like where's Waldo or something!:D

The new tabs work, but they are counter-intuitive, and not as functional as I would expect. I would propose that the "More" tab be renamed "Community", to give a better indicator of what you will find there. Plus, I suggest that the "Explore" tab include an "All Recent" option, to allow people to see all the latest projects, without having to trawl all the categories to find out. See also: Frenzy's announcement. Goodhart's thread. Steveastrouk's thread. Mpilchfamily's thread. I am also starting to find it bleedin' annoying that a brief drift of the cursor too close to the top of the page means half my screen is covered by the drop-down menu.

This forum topic is in the bugs section. I don't know... It's just my opinion... I wasn't online yesterday, but today, I came back, and (we) had a wonderful surprise... I like changes. I just like them, when they're the other way around... I've already written my thoughts here: https://www.instructables.com/community/Have-you-seen-the-update-to-your-profile-page/ I'm sure the staff has worked very hard on the new update, but why? What will Instructables earn from the new update? Why is it better than before? Am I confused and this is an April Fool's prank? There are many members that don't know what the forums are, and don't have a way of expressing their feelings about the new bug. It would be great if this was explained in an email. I know that Autodesk acquired Instructables a few years ago. The newsletter has changed and has become a bit more Autodesk-y. Does this has anything to do with that? This update might be better for viewers, I don't know. However, if it isn't comfortable for us, content producers, Instructables will just have to re-use old Instructables, because we will leave... Please take into account what we have written. Thank you. Maybe this is a Part oe for the update. I might be wrong. Thanks in advance for the replies?

When I searched for knex today, I clicked on rating, recent, and popular, along with the other sections, and the listings never changed at all. This is the first time I have witnessed thig bug, and I am wondering if anyone else has found this. If you look at the pictures this will explain the problem fully. Does any one of the instructables team think they can fix this?

Hey y'all. I'm announcing my newest instructables. First, I'm posting a Gatling gun. Next I am posting my very first semi-automatic rifle based off of the M107 (pic below). It gets a range of only 15 feet but some of you geniuses can figure out how to make it better. Finally, I'm building the Brickster V2 SLDS. It will be about 2x longer and the bow will have only 2 strings. Expect the Gatling gun within a week and the others to follow within a month.

Hello, fellow instructablers! I have located a bug. When you click on someones location, or on one of their interests, it comes up with the same page that comes up whenever you search for an instructable with a keyword that doesn't exist; the one with the instructables robot saying:No results foundTake this opportunity to submit one! When I have seen instructablers who have the same locations/interests as me.Can anyone fix this? Thanks, The Jamalam

Killer Video of the Gatling Gun. I'm revealing my coming instructable. I will publish a heavy duty 16 shot Gatling gun that shoots 10 barrels per second. When 3 green pegs are in each barrel it shoots 30 bullets per second. I shot a total of 48 pegs in the video. Look for that in a month or two. Hope you can't wait. NO PICTURES YET. IT'S TRUE IDENTITY WILL REMAIN A SECRET UNTIL IT IS PUBLISHED. ALL YOU WILL SEE IS IT'S MASSIVE FIREPOWER.
