I have a PIR sensor.. initially when i tested it using an led.. the led used to turn on when it detected motion.. now it happens vice-a-versa . Any suggestions to rectify the problem?

PIR DC Motor? Answered

Hi all, I am trying to set up a dc motor controlled by a PIR sensor using an arduino.  When the PIR sensor is triggered, I would like the motor to turn on for half a second and then off.  However, no matter what "delay" I write into the sketch, the motor always stays on for around four seconds.  Could someone please help me? PIR motion detector

My roommates and I decided that we wanted an electronic project to work on and we chose to try out making a motion detector. The only thing is, we really have no idea how.We have this PIR sensor, a small PC board, some wire, a buzzer and soldering equipment.My question is, how can we make a motion detector that buzzes when it senses motion? What more do we need to buy?We have looked online but couldn't find anything for people that really have no idea what to do.Thanks for any help!

Bidirectional PIR motion

Hi everyone..I'm an absolute beginner in arduino and have a simple scenario i'd like to program.I have 2 PIR motion sensors in a passage or corridor.If i pass from PIR1 to PIR2 i want a relay to activate a green light.If i pass from PIR2 to PIR1 i want another red colour light to activate...BUT....not to reactivate the PIR1 triggered light.can anyone pleeeeeeease help.note: the PIR sensors are about 6 meters apartThanks in advance for any advice.

PIR Sensor troubleshooting

Hello there people of the internets, I'm an electronics newb, hoping someone can help me. I'm trying to trigger a 1.5-3 volt DC motor using a PIR sensor, without using a microcontroller.   I have the PIR sensor's output connected to an npn transmitter which triggers a 5v spdt relay to switch on the motor.  When testing the circuit with an LED, it works perfectly, turning the LED on when motion is detected.   When I swap the LED for the motor, the relay turns on the motor repeatedly every 6 seconds no matter whether there is motion or not. (it also may have killed the relay after about a minute or two) I tried a different circuit, using a transistor as a switch instead of a relay, which also works perfectly with an LED, but when the motor is connected instead, again the motor is turned on every 6 seconds without a care for the PIR output. What could I be doing wrong here?  I'm assuming that perhaps it has something to do with kickback from the motor...maybe? Anybody have any advice?  (Remember, no microcontroller!  As much as I'd love to try my hand at using arduino or the like, I can't afford to use a microcontroller for this particular project.)

PIR alarm somehow works WITHOUT PIR attached

So I was playing around with this instructable: and it works great, I made it on a bread board and when I unplugged the PIR to switch a jumper, I noticed that the LED started acting as a sensor! That is, when I got close to the bread board, the LED would light up and the alarm would go off, it would stop when I moved my hand away and start again when I put my hand back... This may be a stupid question, but I am really curious how this works!

Advice for PIR motion sensor

Hello, I am currently developing a wireless PIR motion sensor for my home with Arduino and I need some advices (I am new with Arduino). The product will send a signal everytime it detects someone but I need to switch on/off when I am at home. For instance, before switch on/off on the device, it will detect a movement  (and I don't want to). Is there any way to switch on/off remotely (right before entering in the house for instance) ? 1/ Infrared ? Is it consume a lot of battery ? 2/ Bluethooth ? Is it consume a lot of battery ? 3/ Other ? Thanks for your help,

Sentry Gun and PIR sensors

Hello, I have a question about PIR sensors for a robot I'm making. Most have a digital pin that goes high when movement is detected. The time that this pin stays high for (delay time) is often adjustable by a variable resistor on the sensor. My problem is that I need a sensor with no delay time - the digital pin should go low as soon as movement stops. If anyone could point me in the direction of a pir sensor with no delay time/one with a very short delay time (under 0.5s) I would be grateful. Or possibly, If I were to remove the variable resistor, would that remove the delay time? thanks.

How to troubleshoot a pir sensor?

Hello I bought a pir sensor off ebay (SKU 14_B000101941) and I plugged it into a solderless breadboard to test it out. I connected a 3v LED between the output and ground and while it does light up, it does not light up when it senses light, it just turns off every 2 seconds, then every 5 seconds. If there is a simple fix to this problem any advice would be appreciated but if not I am willing to buy a different one.

Passive Infrared Detector (PIR) Issue

Hi folks.  I have a 6000 Series PIR originally manufactured by GE security.  The sensor is wired to a OMRON MK2P-S 8 pin relay.  The relay controls an audio alarm. Everything worked fine for a while but now it no longer triggers the relay, despite the LED indicating it should.  I can physically disconnect the COM connection and it will force the relay to trip and perform the desired alarm message.  The voltage to the PIR is 13.5v (specifications indicate 10v-16v is the acceptable range).  I have set the jumper for 2 and 3 pulse with no difference in behavior.  Any troubleshooting ideas?  Thanks in advance.

Simple PIR circuit, need review

Hi, I'm working on a simple circuit. The idea is to have a portable device that lights up when I stand up at night. I have a PIR sensor that triggers 3 LEDS. I use a LM741 as an OpAmp The leds are type 3528. Though these LEDs are supposed to be powered with 12v, I'll use a 9v battery. My main concern is the battery life, tha'ts why I use 100k resistors in stand-by, to limit the current. R3 is used to fine-tune the threshold on the inverting voltage. PIR outputs:    3.3v when it detects motion,    ?v otherwise (but yet >0) Could anyone give me some tips or advice on how to improve my circuit? Thanks, Antonio

Using a PIR to turn on a sound module

Hi All, I have used PIR sensors before but i usually hack one from a cupboard light you can buy.  What I want to do is use a really small (and cheap) board like the trinket (adafruit) and hook it up to the PIR in order to turn on a sound module.   Does anyone know what board would be best to do this?  All the board will have to do is activate the PIR sensor.  maybe I don't need an actual whole board to get this done?  any clues would be much appreciated.

How can I modify a PIR so triggers faster, and then fades out?

I want to make a motion-activated light that turns on immediately when someone walks by for about a second, then fades out for about one second. Most PIRs seem to stay on for a minimum of 5 seconds, then just cut off. I'm looking for a quick burst, quick fade. I'm very new to working with electronics, but my guess would be that instead of modifying the PIR itself, the PIR would be triggering something else that would be doing the timing/fading.

HI everybody, i followed this instructable           and the pir is outputting +-4.7 v. i purchased a rs5 5v (coil) 12v switch relay. I have connected the output of the PIR to the relay coil and i am trying to use this to switch on a 12v windscreen washer pump. I can switch the relay with 3x 1.5v cells directly and the pump activates but when i use the output of the PIR to try and switch the relay, nothing happens. I am assuming it is a ( Icurrent ) problem but as i say I dont have a clue.please help.?

I want to make a circuit which is when motion i will be detected My desk led strip will turn on. And It will turned on until I left my desk. Passive (Pyroelectric) Infrared Motion Sensor Design?

I am trying to build a pyroelectric infrared sensor using a KC778B from scratch. I have gotten my system to work using PIR modules, but because I am using 100 of them in my project, it ends up costing almost $900 more to do than building it from scratch (even including paying a machine to assemble the extra components). However, the prototype I built doesn't work. It worked when I did it using a PIR module, so the LED charging circuit is fine -- but the sensor block is not. I went through the datasheet carefully and didn't see anything particularly odd, and scoping the pins also showed no noise to speak of. I found an example online of how to use the chip, and their system was very similar to mine, except with extra features that I had eliminated. Basically, the behavior is that it does not output a voltage indicating detected motion for a random appearing length of time, and then outputs only detection events. The attached LED light is off for most of the time, and then turns on, never to turn off again. Perhaps the sensitivity is too low, perhaps the controller and PIR sensor element aren't compatible, I just have no idea. The PIR sensor is the PIR_D203S. It says it requires 3-15V to run and the drain reference on the PIR controller chip is only 2.5V, so I thought that could be the problem. However, connecting D directly to 5VDC did not fix anything. I just ordered two PIR sensors that say they go to 2VDC, but I'm not optimistic that this is the problem. I also did not include the 1k resistor on the output to the LED control transistor; could that cause the system to stick on or off? I did also not bypass the power supply, but I'm seeing it freeze, not flicker, so again I am doubtful. I really cannot think of any other places where this could fail -- perhaps the offset voltage on the PIR sensor, maybe the frequency of the turn off circuit -- but everywhere I look the datasheets imply that my circuit should be fine as is. I'm kind of doubtful that instructables can help, but I have no where else to turn. These things are apparently too cheap for anyone to bother building them themselves, and there are only even one or two controller chips in existence.

3v Relay Module and PIR sensor circuit troubleshoot

​Looking for help on my project.  See image.  Testing before connecting to high voltage device.  Using a 3v relay triiggered by the PIR signal.  As you see wired now, There is no ground wire coming from PIR.  The circuit would not trigger relay with a ground wire to the PIR.  When this does trigger I noticed on the relay that the LED would not go completely off.  So I check to find that when relay turns "off"  the PIR is still sending 2.8 volts to the relay.  Not enough to trigger the relay, but enough to show power through the LED.  Obviously something wrong here where the PIR or Relay are still drawing power.  Can you help?

(HELP) Linking Wireless Pir Sensor To Wireless Chime

Hi, trying to get a wireless PIR sensor to activate a wireless door chime... Given up trying to get the PIR to transmit the same frequency as the chime so now trying to get the PIR to switch on the wireless doorbell chime.  So in theory, motion activates sensor, signal from sensor goes to door bell button, signal from door bell button goes to chime. I've attached wires to the bell switch, but don't know where to attach them onto the PIR:   experiments so far have activated the chime but it stays on so I think I'm just shorting something out. Also, should both power sources (for PIR and doorbell ringer) remain as PIR is 9v and bell ringer 12v? Hi res pics below, thanks to anyone for their help and advice! (HELP) Linking Wireless Pir Sensor To Wireless Chime

Hi, I'm trying to use a wireless PIR sensor to activate a wireless MP3 door bell for an art project I'm doing so that when people walk by a particular spot, sound I've uploaded to the doorbell chime will play.  It has to be wireless i'm afraid... If anyone is bored this Sunday afternoon and feels like helping me out I'd be very grateful as I need this to be operational by Tuesday and i'm no electronics expert. To say thanks I'd definitely paypal you some beer money! The wireless PIR is this one: The wireless door bell is this one: Both operate on 433mhz and in my head, this meant it should have been easy to get them to work together. Since then I've been reading a lot about DIP switches that was previously unknown to my technically ignorant mind. So, I've taken a pic of the guts in the PIR and I guess the frequency ID is determined by the pins on the top left that read A0-A7? and the wireless doorbell has 6 DIP switches in the battery compartment like so: as well as the door bell button (also wireless). Is it possible to get these to work together, and if so, how would I do this with a minimum of hassle that someone with little electronics expertise like myself can understand? A very large thanks to anyone who can help my befuddled mind get around this!

I'm trying to create an alarm system using a PIR motion sensor, DC motor and a speaker so when someone gets close to it the DC motor should vibrate and sound and alarm through the speaker. (using and Arduino UNO) I've got  an external 9V battery powering it. the PIR and sound works fine I just want to hook up the DC motor to run along with everything else.  I've got some code for a button switch that could turn the motion sensor on and off when I want to use it also, if you know how to set that up that would help. Idea: Smart LED front door light with PIR detector and light sensor

Hello to all. I searched the forums for the project I plan to do, but found no real answer. Here is the idea: I want to have a front door light using CREE high power LEDs that would: - stay off during the day - turn on at 10% current level when night falls - ramp up the current gradually to 100% current when a movement is detected, stay at 100% for a preselected amount of time, then return back to 10%. This would make a very efficient front door light. I have some experience making headlamps using buckpucks and power LEDs (thanks to dan from this site), but I have no idea on how to make the "gradually changing" current driver for that project. I guess it would involve a microcontroller of some sort. Has anyone some insights on this ? Thanks for reading, Mike, Switzerland

Automated arduino Water gun

Hi, Im looking for some advice on a current project.. The idea is to build an arduino controlled water turret that sprays water at cats in my back garden. The basis of the idea is a few PIRs to cover 360 degrees, a stepper motor and possibly a windscreen washer kit to spray the water. I want the project to be portable so dont particually want to have a mains water feed. My main issue is the method of spraying the water, Im considering a 12v pump kit but thinking there could be an issue with how far one of these pumps would actually spray the water. I have an ardunio uno and a couple PIRs and dont want to be spending a great amount of money on the project although if i can find a decent method of firing the water then i could increase the budget slightly.  Any ideas or similar projects out there where i might get some inspiration?  Any help would be appriciated

Building a robot with an Arduino, Motor Shield, and PIR Sensor

Hi. I have been trying to correlate the movement of my robot based on a PIR Sensor. Specifically, I just want my robot to move randomly (forward, left and right) whilst stopping on a regular interval (say every 5 seconds) to activate the PIR Sensor to check if anything's moving. However, I can't seem to make anything move and even the PIR is not checking on anything on my code. The car now runs for a short while whenever a motion is detected on the PIR sensor. That's basically how I programmed it to be for the meantime just to see if the shield and PIR Sensor work. However, how do I go into making the car to do these things: 1.  Run randomly for 5 seconds (forward, left and right) 2. Activate the PIR once the wheels have stopped. Then run another DC motor once motion is detected. 3. If no motion is detected on Step 2, Run step 1 again. Thank you very much!

Reducing the influence of low temperature objects on PIR sensors?

​Hello, can anybody please help me with this? I was wondering if there was some sort of filter/material that I could place in front of a pir module, that would filter out any low temperature objects and only allow high amounts of infrared radiation to pass through and trigger the sensor (body heat). I plan to mount the sensor on a rotating turret, and when it spins I don't want the sensors to be triggered by the moving background (walls, bookshelves, etc.) thanks.

pir motion sensor keychain camera controlled by arduino?

Hi I am a total novice and having discovered a project on this website i am convinced that it is the answer to my own university project. I am to create a motion sensor camera within an urban context that will be triggered by people and record their movements and the space itself. The project I am talking about involves pir sensor keychain camera controlled by arduino. I am more than willing to have a go but from the tutorial there are no guidelines as to what components I would need and how I would go about in wiring and connecting the parts. How do I use PIR motion sensor to trigger 3v relay module? Answered

How do I use a PIR (Passive infrared sensor) motion sensor to turn on a 3v battery?

Hi All, I want to use a PIR to turn on a small 3v DC motor.  I know that I can't just directly attach the motor to the PIR as there isn't enough power to run the motor.  I have done some research and it looks like I could use a 3.3V relay as a switch to drive the higher power needed for the motor what I want to know is how to wire it all up?  Do I have to supply a separate power source to the relay to run the motor?  If anyone has a schematic that would be great.  I found this relay on ebay which I thought might work but I'd like to make one myself if possible. thanks for your help. lonesoulsurfer

Looking to trigger a handheld "buzzer" using a motion detector, any advice?

Hey everyone! I am currently working on a project that would allow my employees to be alerted once somebody walks through our doors, without annoying anyone (so a bell is out of the question, haha). My idea is to have a motion detector above the door, and once someone walks through it, a handheld buzzer will go off (to alert my employees). I'm thinking that I'll need a PIR sensor, a vibration motor, possibly a micro-controller(?), and some kind of power source. Something I'm struggling with is finding a way to trigger the buzzer, without being physically connected to the PIR sensor. What do you guys think? P.S. Please excuse my lack off knowledge, as I'm more of a software guy ;)

Is it possible to make a PIR sensor turn a small electric motor?

I need to have a PIR sensor turn a modded servo, but i can't get it to work. The servos electronics have been taken out, so its just a gearbox, and works like a normal motor. I have tried using a transistor as a switch for the servo, it works for an led, but when the motor is put in the leds place it just spins non stop. I have no clue what else to try, or why its acting to erratic. I have also tried just going straight from the PIR sensors output, but no luck there either. Does anybody know how to do this without a micro controller? and could you provide a schematic. Thanks.

Hey everyone,          I'm doing a project with the arduino and i just want an led to light if a PIR senses motion. I am using this sensor: I know I have everything hooked up right, my code is just wrong.(Yes, MOTOR is used for the LED) Can someone tell me what to do? Can i use a cheap PIR sensor to trigger a camera flash?

Hi there, I am living in Panama and i need to improve security around my house. The postal service is unreliable so i will have to make do with very basic components. I'm pretty practical but haven't a clue how to get the two to "talk" to each other. If you were going to burgle a house and a decent flash fired as you approached you would be temporarily blinded, you probably wouldn't know accurately where the flash came from to sabotage it. You wouldn't know if your picture had just been taken etc etc. I would think it would be a pretty good deterrent. Thanks for any help, ppinny,

DIY Driveway Alert System Problem

I tried to make a driveway alert system, but it has a problem. I connected a walkie-talkie to a Radio Shack PIR Sensor using this reed relay. Essentially, when the PIR sensor detects motion, it outputs 5 V which triggers the reed relay and closes the contacts, which connects the two contacts on the walkie-talkie button, which sends a beep to the other walkie-talkie. Problem: It works as planned, except that after the motion stops and the reed relay disconnects the walkie-talkie button, it will inexplicably re-connect the walkie-talkie button after about a second, and will repeat this cycle of beeping every couple seconds indefinitely. The strange thing is that sometimes it will work just as it is supposed to, but other times it wont. Other details: The PIR sensor is powered by a 9 volt fed through a 5 V regulator so it gets steady voltage, while the walkie talkie is powered by the regular AAA batteries. I am a novice with electronics, so don't rule out that I may have made a simple mistake.

Anyone know how to modify an annoying doorbell 'buzzer'? Answered

Right now it's DING DONG, DING DONG, DING DONG. Three times and piercingly loud. I can't imagine the speaker is controlling the dinging and the donging - I think it must be steered by a chip on the PCB. How could I swap out either the speaker or the chip to have a still clearly audible but less repetitive and annoying alert?

How do I use a transistor to up the power of a PIR output?

Hi, I need help. You see the street I live in has more cats than, well the musical cats,  and seeing as my garden seems to be they're preferred  choice for going to the toilet, I decided to build a motion sensing water sprayer. So off to Amazon I went and purchased some PIR sensors, a solar pump with a DC connection, bread boards wires and batteries and chucked it all together. Now the sensor will light an LED no problem but when I switch in the pump I get nothing. I read on tinternet that transistors can be used to up the juice but I was already far beyond my knowledge of circuits, components and the like. I even tried looking at sketches of PIR sensors to transistors, but after weeks of trying I'm no closer and have nothing to show for it but a headache. If anyone can help and describe to me (in child like, basic terminology) how I wire up a transistor to a PIR and then a 4-12v 3.5watt pump that would be just super. Or at-least put me out of my misery and tell me it's not doable. Thanks.

Arduino 12V Car-alarm with PIR sensor and remote control - expertise needed. :-)

Hi all, This is my first "big" Arduino project and my first fritzing, so please bear with me. :-) Goal: - Build the cheapest possible car alarm system with a loud siren - It should be possible to activate/deactivate the alarm with a remote control. - The alarm will once activated, sense any motion in the car (if someone breaks a window and tries to steal anything) and set of the alarm. - The system should not drain the car battery so it should draw a minimum of power. I've managed to build the first few things, but some vital steps are still needed and I hope you can help me sort these out. Components used so far: Arduino Pro Mini - TIP122 transistor - 2.2KOhm resistor - 1N4002 diode - Mini piezo siren (I used a 107dB siren with an operating voltage of 6-15Vdc and current consumption of 140mA) - Breadboard - Lots of wires I'm currently waiting for my PIR sensor to arrive together with the RF receiver/transmitter module, so for now I've added a basic switch to act as the PIR sensor and another for the RF module (activate/deactivate). The components I'm waiting for are: - An RF module that I need to order once i find the right one. - Questions that still remain and that I hope you can help me with: 1. The arduino should be powered by the cars 12V battery, however I've read that the car battery must be regulated as it delivers anywhere from 12 - 16V. I could connect it directly to RAW but in case the battery peaks above 16V i risk damaging the Arduino. I'm very unsure as to how I do this regulating best? One option could be to buy a "DC-DC step down converter - 4-35Vdc > 1,23-30Vdc" and set it to 5V, but maybe a more simple and/or cheaper solution exists? 2. Since the power consumption should be kept to a minimum, I plan to add the RF before the step down converter so the powering of the regulator (step down converter?) only happens if the alarm is activated from the remote. First question is: can I use a TIP120 for this and simply connect the RF to base, and the regulator to the collector? Second: In this case, the Arduino will be powered off the hard way by cutting power when deactivating the alarm from the remote - can the arduino take that in the long run? and finally, the RF receiver needs to get its power from somewhere, so what can I do here - is the best thing to use a 12V RF module instead of the Arduino 5V RF module or can this be solved some other way? 3. Any good ideas for minimizing power consumption? 4. Anything I can do to further improve the design? :-) I'll update this post as I progress with the project including a more detailed step guide to how to implement this and the source code I'm using. Instructables arduino posts and commets have helped me a lot during over the past few weeks working with Arduino so I hope you can help me reach the finish line with this project. Br. Jakob
