Someone recommended using Corona treatment and primer, but I don't know enough about it. Any thoughts/ideas?

I'm still working on this solar thing and it's coming along pretty well, am starting in on the final piecing of things together. One old problem that has resurfaced tho is the sealing of the boiler. I was using a metal epoxy similar to Quicksteel, which handled the ethanol ok but is going soft and cracking off, I think due to the regular heating > 80C. So I'm once again looking around for other options. What I'm trying now is wood glue, which I assume is just PVA, run over a flame so that it becomes hard. It seals the ends of the flattened copper pipe well, and doesn't immediately fail on contact with ethanol. Is it likely to hold up, do you think? I'm kind of assuming it won't, but it'd be great if it did. cheers Daniel.

I have experimented with PVA glue, but the results are not quite what I was aiming for... It doesn't have to be clear, but I would like it to set quite quickly.

I'm so excited, I now have + hours of video to cut and share :)Today we:Finished the split standSet the finished plug in the stand and aligned our waterlineBondo'd stand and plug for a flange lineApplied mold release waxSprayed PVA (Poly Vinyl alcohol)Applied a polyester tooling resin with cabosil (A silica thickener) to serve as the inner mold face (outer shape/surface of final product)Applied 4 layers of chopped fiber with polyester resin (took about an hour and we're still a tad bit high - even with good ventilation)Mind you the resin is catalyzed with MEK-P (Methyl Ethyl Keytone Peroxide -- some call it rocket fuel. It will eat the flesh off the bone and then eat the bone.Why am I so excited? Because we finished today and the catalyzed resin was COOK-ING. "Too hot to touch" is about 180 for the average meat human. It's well above too hot to touch - in fact, the radiant heat is a bit much for most meat peoples. I want to glue feathers to a small curved wooden box in a lifelike manner. (I know wooden boxes aren't usually feathered, but you know what I mean #;¬) The feathers are about 2 inches long and a bit fluffy. PVA glue has been suggested elsewhere but is it possible to do this in a reasonable amount of time as I can imagine dislodging un-set feathers while adding others. Another alternative would be is hot / cool melt glue but I can imagine this as being too bulky. Does anyone who has done this have any tips?

Make And Do Show And Tell.greensteam brought the Offline Mechanical Steampunkers' Blog which got a lot of use and went through all it's paper.I brought the Toaster which attracted quite a bit of interest, the Clock and a couple of other things. I also brought bread and butter for the toaster, but there was some concern about setting off the smoke-alarms so I ate that on the 6 hour trip home...For the making:A group of crocheters, which I didn't get around to trying.Making rubbery-goop from PVA seemed popular with the kidsKeyrings and such were being made from low temperature thermoplastic.Various items were being made from old keyboards, including wallets and bracelets, and there was keyboard-dismantling to go with it.The soldering group were building light-modulated audio devices (and fitting them to mint-tins) - this seemed to be a popular choice with people waiting at times.A rather nice looking 3D model maker was brought, but due to a technical problem it wasn't able to dispense hot plastic on the day (shame).There was some good steampunk stuff on display, some of it being of high quality and for sale.A group of cake-makers brought some fantastic looking cakes / pieces of sugar-art.Also some cardboard sculptures, things made from old umbrellas, crochet items, various other bits & pieces.(And one exhibitor didn't turn up)MAKE contributed some magazines, so I picked one of them up.Thanks to greensteam for inviting me, here are some of the better photos that I took and a video compilation. The video is ~5 min, so I've saved at 340Kbps to keep it a reasonable size but it's still 11.9MB. There was a lot of background noise & chatter on all the footage, and with the exception of the light-modulated audio device nothing much of interest to listen to. That's why I dubbed a music track on it.L
