In the last 6 months, I had a 40" hd tv, a modem, a 27" monitor and a laptop all quit on me for various reasons. I'm wondering if I take them apart if there are any parts that are worth salvaging. I have only a basic understanding of electronics but love to tinker and want to take up arduino projects. What would you salvage if it were you? MK

My sister brought me home this part tonight from tech crew at school, she says she thinks it came from a fire alarm but were not sure. There are 2 lightbulb sockets and engraved on the metal it says "75W -125 v". Out of the back there are 6 wires, 1 red 1 black 2 white that are going into the large thing in the middle, and 1 black and 1 white coming out of the empty socket. the 2 sockets are also wired together. What is this part? is it simply a power supply with 2 light bulbs? The label says "Lithonia emergency systems on it" "input : 277 at 60hz (wht and black) output:120v 21.6VA (wht and red).

I'm looking for help getting some new smaller drafting tools cut. The cut area is no bigger then 9"x6", I was hoping to get the part cut out of .04" clear Lexan, I can supply if needed. I'd also like to have the parts etched as well if that is possible as well. I have the rough drawing done in AutoCAD so far.

I have been to many sites, just trying to find one that carries, well, everything! I'll go to one, and it'll have a whole bunch of led's, but no resistors, or a whole bunch of switches but no led's. I end up spending a fortune on shipping by ordering parts for a project from 5 different sites. I would like to find a site that has all these things in one place. leds switches resistors capacitors transistors most other basic electronic stuff. Share your site!

Alright I know this question has been asked a hundred times before, but I've searched and none of them have been close to what I specifically want. I have two old computers with some fans and L.E.D's, and I was just wanting to find something to use these things for. Everything I find is either about restoring the computer or just using the shell of one. I want something like robots lights or something like that. Oh, and sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I'm sure me and Skunkbait aren't the only ones who have kept car or motorcycle parts in odd places.I hear my dad kept a motocycle in his living room for years, because the place didn't have a secure garage. For a little while, if you wanted to sit while watching TV, you had to sit on the bike or the floor, because there was no other furniture. Plus, it's just priceless to be able to ride out your front door.I know some folks who keep spare electical bits like turn signals and partial wiring harnesses laying around the house. Hanging on doorknobs. Apparently, bachelors, those aren't just for hanging underwear anymore. There have been a few times that the chainsaw and lawnmower had to live in the house so a visiting motorcycle could live in our shed.Generally, whenever I get a new part or tool home, it has to spend some time just sitting around while I try to figure out what the best way is to use it. Or just figure out why it looked like a good idea to buy another timing light.I've been known to hang particularly sexy motorcycle parts on the wall. I spent a lot of time trying to get a 10-120 speedometer from a Volvo to work as a clock one time. That didn't work, but it did make a good paperweight.Where have you kept parts, and why?

I'm curious about where instructables members purchase their electroincs parts. I've played around with electronics since high school, but I've always been in an environment where parts are "free" (aka paid for by others). Now that I'm branching out on my own, I'd like to know the best place to buy parts. I did a quick comparison of Jameco and Mouser on my blog. http://www.thelumberlab.com/2011/catalog-fight-jameco-vs-mouser I'd greatly appreciate it if you all could share your thoughts on this. Thanks so much.

I'm going to be making a 2 part instructable, where the first instructable can be branched off and help people make other instructables, and my second instructable is to make an "attachment" for my first instructable" Would the 2 be counted as 1? Or would the 2nd instructable be considered "incomplete".

I am looking for a plastic part and have searched all over the internet for it and cannot find it. To give you a visual of the part, its looks just like a plastic pizza box support but its height is about 6 to 8 inches. Has anyone seen anything similar to this description? Thank you for your responses. Chris

OK I dissembled a WWII radar for its gold, silver and parts. I got these Bradley Labs #SE6M82H parts they are 4 inches long and ½ inch in diameter, I may just melt for the silver but before I do I would like to make sure what they are first. I think they are 25,000 to 50,000 volt rectifiers but I can’t get a datasheet or any other information on them. So can anyone help me with information on this part? Joe

Hello instructables community, i am looking to buy most used (it doesn't have to be, but don't go out to walmart and buy one and try to sell it to me for a higher price) nerf guns and parts, if you take a look in your attic you might find a few for me to take off your hands thanks, firezone

I've seen some forum topics here that explain how to create your own plastic molds etc. I'm looking for some help here. I need to make some small plastic gears, but I'm not sure that investing the time and effort into learning injection molding, simply to produce a hand full of parts, is sound logic. Is there anyone out there that makes small plastic parts for a living? I've contacted several companies in my area, but they won't do anything less than 10K quantity... Thanks, Tim

I won third place in the dyeing for color contest a few weeks ago. I filled out all of the paperwork instructables sent me and received 'most' of the prize. However when the box came, it was missing the 12 white cotton bandanas. I have messaged the contest manager, and service@instructables, but neither has returned my messages. What do I do to get the missing part of my prize?

So, I pulled this piece from an old back massager and I wish to build something special for a deaf friend. I have a couple more motors from old game controllers that I'll be scavenging too, but I need some more materials for the rest of the device. Anybody know where I can obtain the circuits and other parts to build a music visualizer (not arduino or anything requiring programming)? Preferably free or the very least free?

I was taking apart this toy car called a formula fueler from hot wheels and found these to parts that look like leds but on a board. They each have a led thing and two wires on has red and black wires while the other has purple and black wires. The red and black one has thes letters on it "LED REV:03 B4048-0030050" and the one with purple and black has "PHO-TR REV:00 C4331-003-5000". What are these and what are they used for? Should i keep them for future projects?

Hello. I am a high school freshmen, and I am on a robotics team. We own a Dimension 3d printer, however I am not able to use it for personal projects. I am a CADer and would love to find parts or broken 3d printers to where I can build my own functioning 3D printer. Being 15 I do not have sufficient funds to where I can afford 3d printers. Any type of help would be amazing! If you have any information, please let me know. Thank you! -Evan

Hi Guys Can anyone please help me. I have recently purchased a few parts for a jet engine off ebay as a possible project but can't find what engine they may have came off. The combustion chamber is different to what you see in smaller rc jet engine. The turbine wheel blades are dove tailed like on bigger jets and the compressor wheel has an inducer of around 95mm. I would imagine if this could ever run again it would produce a serious amount of thrust. I have uploaded some photos and would be grateful of any help.

I am making an instructable for building a gas powered bicycle from scratch, but in it's current form, it is shaping up to have literally hundreds of steps. Is there a way to break it down into smaller sections in such a way that I could still enter it in a contest as one instructable? I was thinking perhaps I make an instructable that consists of only the introduction, followed by quick overviews of each part, with accompanying links to other instructables which are dedicated to each part. The way I am planning to do it, I would have one instructable for how to modify the engine, another one for choosing a good bicycle to motorize, another for mounting the engine to the bike frame, another for calculating gear ratios and setting up gear reduction, another for rebuilding the rear wheel, another for throttle linkage, another for exhaust systems, gas tanks, and air filters, another for all the other misc stuff you have to do, and finally one more for how to ride safely. So that would be 9 parts to the instructable, each their own instructable, which even split into 8 would make quite large instructables. Then the "parent" instructable, which would be the one I enter in contests, or which would be featured if it's worthy, would look like this: How to build a 4hp motorized bicycle from scratch! Blah blah blah introduction, nice pictures of finished bicycles, etc. Step 1 short overview of specific part, ex modifying the engine, then link to another instructable providing detailed instructions on exactly how to modify the engine Step 2 same format as step 1 and so on until all the parts are covered. This would also be helpful to me because I could better organize the hundreds of images I have for this instructable, right now it is a huge pain in the butt to find any specific image, so much so that it's easier to upload them one by one as I need them just so I can keep track. So, would this format be ok?

I am working on a project involving a Presario V5000 laptop (well mainly its innards) and would love to find extension cables for some of the components. For example, the keyboard attaches to the motherboard via a 24 pin flat ribbon-like cable (see example image). It would be great if I could get a simple extension piece (male to female) to give me any additional length, but I cant seem to find anyone that makes this, or what the techincal name is for that type of cable. (is it even a cable? Is it a flexible circuitboard?) Anyone aware of a good vendor for hard to find laptop accessories like this??
