# Search for Penny NIB Magnet in Topics

### Magnetic spec

I was wondering how big a cylinderical grade N42 NIB magnet i would need to pull a copper weight of 20 grams from 3inches? I dont know how to calculate so... If you could, that'd be great

### While doing electrolysis on some pennies, (Pence?) I noticed a copper coating on my + copper lead?

Is there something special about this? Also, Is this a form of electroplating? I doused some pennies in vinegar for about a week+ and tried this. On a thinner, magnet wire lead, (copper +) it had what I beleive is a dark green copper salt, that burned blue. Can anyone Identify this? Also, I changed the diameter of the lead, to about 1/16 - 1/8 (Copper lead, +) and It seemed like that lead was powder coated with copper. Is there a reason it would not be a copper salt? The other was coated with what I think is Zinc.

### Coils for vertical axis wind generator (VAWT)

I've followed several instructables concerning vertical wind generators but found it hard to locate magnets of any decent size here in the UK. I'm going to have to order some that are about the size of a 2 penny piece (the cost of anything bigger is much more than I can pay for)and therefore I will have to make similarly small coils to equal the magnets size. Considering the base of the generator is 40cm in diam how much space must there be between each coil and can you have more than one row of coils. Another one inside the first. The same configuration with the magnets ofcoarse. Lastly, on these cicular magnets is there a plus and minus to give you an idea of what way round you should attatch the magnets to the bottom side of the rota. Thanks.

### Coilgun? Induction? Or something else? Answered

Hi, There video above shows a simple coilgun like device that shoot coins. In my understanding, it looks like a simple induction Coilgun design, since it repel coin away from the coil instead shoot the coin through the middle. However I have a hard time replicate the result. I use the same camera with the same capacitor (350V), and also use penny for the non magnetic projectile. Its the coil part I'm not sure about. In the video, it looks like a relevantly messy and small coil. Can anyone suggest me on the coil design for the same result? Most resources I found are either on reduction design or base on coilgun design instead this simple shooting mechanism. Thanks

### can i make a solenoid out of these materials? will it work? school project pls help?

I have 50 meters of uninsulated copper wire 20 gauge. I want to make 4 solenoids out of it, yes i know i need magnet wire or insulated wire but they don't sell it where i live (Mississauga, Ontario, canada) so i was wondering if i can use electric tape (vinyl electric tape) to insulate the uninsulated wire and use it to make solenoids. first time on instructables so i apologize in advance for any mistakes in this posts. Oh and the metal object needed inside the solenoid that goes in and out (idk what its called) can i use canadian pennies and apply hot glue to make a long rod? would that work? i don't need the engine to push anything heavy i just want it to work.  Thanks
