I tried entering some codes to try to connect my samsung t301g to my mac. The phone didn't do much. I wasn't sure if I am supposed to enter the codes in the main menu. The link shows the codes that should work. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/582887/unlocking_hacking_tricks_for_samsung_cells/

Phone apps are creeping more into the musical space. Famous musicians have been seen using cell phones with apps to play in their shows. Steffest has combined multiple phones into a guitar and can be seen here playing the results. Now I want to see him add an iPad for the guitar body and make the entire thing touchscreen. via Make

No, not a phone in a car--a phone that is a car, or at least looks like one. This car is a converted VW Beetle that is being used to promote a phone company. I think this may be even more exciting to see on the road than the sheepdog from the movie Dumb and Dumber.Link via TechEBlog

Today i was given a old phone. but its certainly a different phone, it has a cord, but the end on the cord is the same as one from a internet cord, but when i plug it in to a computer it has no effect. i think it might be a 'bag phone', all i know is its made by motorola. instead of trying to figure it out, i figured i would strip it down for parts, but other than the speakers, microphone, leds and a magnetic reed switch there isnt much. one thing that really interests me is the lcd screen it has, there arent very many pins connecting it to the board, it has a microship embedded of the back of the lcd board, covered in that wierd glue. does anyone know how i can reuse the lcd? would i need an arduino for it?

I would swear I saw an Instructable on this somewhere, but now I can't find it. I have an old corded telephone that I want to rewire. I just want to take the actual handheld part and attach it to a standard 2.5mm stereo output, such that I could either plug it into a cell phone and have a giant cool headset, or use it with my speaker/mic splitter to do VoIP-type work on the computer. Do phone cords have standard colored wires? Am I just going to have to figure it out myself? The headset has a standard 4-contact CAT-1 phone jack, and I want to take one end off a phone cord and replace it with a 2.5mm plug.

I was thinking about trying to turn an old phone into a microphone for a music performance or something? correct me if im wrong and i probably am but, a small crap microphone is a telephone would work would it? i was thinking if i left the whole phone in tact but made the cord come from the phone base into a microphone jack, how would i connect a microphone jack that has 5 legs to a 2 wire phone microphone? it couldnt be done could it? It would work if i just bought a crappy microphone and moved and fitted it into a telephone so it has all the circuit or what ever else is in one already in it I apologize if most of that doesn't make sence

I was looking to start a new project, and I need some help. Does anyone know anything about tiny electronic vibrators, such as the ones found in phones? What are they called? Where can I get some? I try searching for info on google and stuff, but, searching up vibrators just doesn't really give me what I'm trying to find... if ya know what I mean, its just all the wrong kind of information. Thanks in advance for any help

I've always thought that it would be cool to have more than one cell device on my specific account. (no, not like a family sharing plan). Let's say, I want to keep a spare phone in my glove box, on a trickle charger, so that I always have a working phone in an emergency. Let's say you use your cell phone a lot.. Instead of swapping out exhausted batteries, what if you had a second phone on the charger that you can switch to whenever needed. Is it possible to clone your telephone, so that you can have a spare device. If you are paying for the service, and you can only use one of the phones at a specific time, why would the phone company care? I have 6 old phones from which I upgraded. They all work fine, and could make great spares if there was a way of programming them to work on my account. Can the MAC address / serial number be cloned to an old phone? J.

A buddy of mine e-mailed me an article about a cell phone unveiled in Japan that is a plush Teddy Bear. After reading it I said "Surely someone could make that for less than $500!!!" When I mentioned this to my friend he said he could see someone on Instructables combinig it with taxidermy to make a rat phone. The URL is :http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,415965,00.htmlHopefully this will provide someone with inspiration.

Hello, I would like to use the bluetooth headset I use with my cell phone for my landline phone at home. There are oodles of instructions out there on how to hack headsets to put them into old phones, I am looking for the opposite. Apparently Jabra used to make something that could have got me started (I believe it was called an A210) but that doesn't seem to be sold any longer. There are some wireless phones out there that incorporate bluetooth, but why add a battery operated wireless phone to a wireless headset - the bluetooth range would give me what I need to stay unencumbered. I have an old cell I could hack apart but I suspect that it would be tricky to get its bluetooth hacked into the analog phone line... Any thoughts? berserk

So, y'know how sometimes you might feel like sharing your music with friends, but you dont want to share you headphones? The solution would be to carry speakers, but usually they're sort of bulky and they wont fit in your pockets very well. So, what about cell phones? even some that are maybe a few years old are still smaller then some speakers. Everyone knows taht cell phones can be Really loud, so what if we somehow add a cable to attach to an audio device, and switch around some things inside, and use the dead phone as speakers?! I would try and do this, but i have no idea how, so this is just an idea for you peoples to think about.!

Hey guys! i recently got a new phone called the Droid by Verizon! Its an amazing phone, and I just recently got it, so I was hoping that if any of you guys happened to have one of their own, they could tell me some cool things to do on it. You don't have to own the phone, you just need to know some of the features and what you can do on it that may be interesting.

Has anyone got a schematic or instructions for making a noise generator I can attach to my cell phone through the mike/earphone jack? I am getting a lot of "junk" calls with faked return numbers, who will not remove me from their call lists and typically call 3-5 times a day, even at night. My provider (AllTel) says there's nothing they can do to help me block calls with bogus or "unavailable" return numbers. OK, I admit this is more for my own sense of justice than anything else, but I'd sure like to have some sort of oscillator that would generate enough volume at a high pitch to at least give them a nice headache.

Here's half an idea - a ring that displays text messages. It might look like nothing more than a ring at first glance, but this finger-worn device can sync with your mobile phone. It has a vibratory alert and a tiny screen that shows caller ID, text messages, and meeting reminders from your mobile. Flip it open and it converts into a headset. In the image, the screen looks glued on, but I guess that it could easily be a small piece of epaper. As for being an ear-piece, I can't see how it would end up large enough to be comfortable or practical, yet still start off small enough to wear as a ring. Now, if the some idea was expanded to a bangle, then an entire phone could be built into a bracelet small and slim enough to be discrete. Now the embarrassing bit: I got this story off MSN...

Ahem. Theoretically, an elevator is a perfect faraday cage -- no radio waves should be able to get into them. Mobile phones shouldn't work in them. But rogers says that their phones do work in them. So here's my question for you, instructables community: do rogers phones work in elevators? If so, why?The only theory that we could come up with was that each elevator has a little repeater in it, but that seems a bit costly.

My friend gave me an old cell phone, with no battery. (No it does not have service). I don't know if it even works. It is a Motorola i860. Where the battery goes are four pins. How can I connect a AA, or AAA, etc battery to it to see if it works. The first time I tried it, it got real hot and then the battery smelled like it was burning. The second time it sparked. Is it even possible to do this? If it is, I need to know the voltage, polarity, and what pins to use.

Hi all, Yesterday, my grandma gave me an old telephone. My mother used it as a toy, so my grandfather disconnected the wires (for safety). I wanted to connect the phone, but I don't know which connections I need. I attached some photo's to make the situation clear. It would be great if you could help me! Arnout P.S.: English is not my mother tongue so it would be fantastic if you didn't use a vocabulary that's too difficult ;)

Ok guys (and all you female hacks out there) I've got a question that I need help answering. Does anyone know if it would be possible to completely wipe a phones programming to be able to install an operating system on it ? The phone that I'm working with is a virgin mobile prepaid Super slice that got washed in the washing machine and is unable to be reactivated( trust me I've tried everything!) I would probably have to find a pretty darn small operating system, because I know that even damn small linux is too large and won't work. The phone is completely intact and all of the features work (including the camera ) it's just that I can't activate it so it's prety much useless unless I can turn it into some kind of micro-small-computer of some sorts. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. and just so you have a bit of info, the phone I believe has somewhere in the neighborhood of 1/4 of a megabyte of memory and an unknown amount of ram. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I want to weave a paracord sheet, roughly about 120mm x 210mm. How mush paracord will I need? Also, the paracord will be white in colour. I will also line the paracord sheet with fabric with a design on it. The design face will come back on itself to form a pouch and the excess will form a 'lid'. When the sheet comes back on itself, i will join the sides together with elastic material. Also, I will laser cut on black acrylic an android robot, which will sit on a face of the case. How do you find my design?

To Whomever has the ability to make this available, please, please, please seriously consider making the website mobile phone friendly. When I try to view the site on my Droid smartphone it is difficult because of the way the text displays. I love instructables and I also do a lot of web viewing on my phone. It would be nice if it were not so difficult. Thanks.
