Renovating Old Photographs.

I have some old photographs slides which I have scanned and now have digital copies of them, some of them are well over 40 years old and the colour has deteriorated as would be expected. The main problem is that many of these have taken on a blue/purple cast, see example, does anyone know if their is a way that I an reduce this blueness please? And, yes, that is a very young me at my wedding in 1969!  I do not have Photoshop but I do have Pixelmator which is a similar application. Thanks for any help.

Overtly sexual photographs.

Smart parents monitor their children's internet activities, but they probably never thought they'd need to consider blocking Instructables due to overt sexual content.  Is a woman groping her chocolate covered breasts really considered kid-friendly by this community?

Camera question for all of you photographers.

I’m getting ready to do some traveling, and I’m looking for a camera that can hold up to a beating. I need a digital camera that can be submerged in at least 20 feet of water, be buried in sand, and has at least a 5x zoom. Iv seen this one, http://www.hammacher.com/publish/11169.asp , but I’m wondering what else is out there. Now I’m not planning on putting the camera through all of that, but I don’t want to take any chances of killing my camera out in the middle of nowhere. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Guys.

Kite photographing the BP oil spill

GrassrootsMapping.org is a group of people who are documenting BP's oil spill with cameras held aloft by kites and balloons. Sometimes they even get a ride on a plane. All of the images produced with this method will be going into the public domain. It's cool stuff and the images are far better than anything else out there. To keep the project going and cover the costs, they've set up a page on kickstarter to ask for donations. They've already passed their initial goal of $5,000, but it's a good cause and I hope they get plenty more than that. I pledged some money and wish them all the best.

Photograph of extra-solar planetary system!

An article in Science News today shows an infrared image of HR 8799 with three roughly Jupiter-sized planets around it! The speckling in the center (around the "+") is the star. The same article shows two Hubble images of Fomalhaut taken 18 months apart. The two images show directly the orbital motion of a previously detected planet, Fomalhaut b.Update (10:12 pm PST 13 Nov 2008): I've attached the two pictures from the SN article. The first is the IR composite of the three-planet system HR 8799; the second is Fomalhaut, showting the offset of Fomalhaut b between 2004 and 2006. I encourage you to read the actual article to get the details of how the data was obtained, and to judge for yourselves its veracity.Update (12:05 pm PST 14 Nov 2008): The two articles are out in today's ''Science'' along with a news article and editorial (requires subscription).HR 8799: Morois, et al.Fomalhaut: Kalas, et al.

Waterproof background material for photographing marine specimens?

A bit of background: I'm working on improving the quality of photos that get passed my way.  A little bit of effort on the part of the photographers could save me countless photoshop hours on my end and likely preserve more useful information in the process!  I'm hoping the DIY photographers out there might have some advice. The details: Photos are of marine creatures (therefore the subjects are necessarily wet and probably muddy!), taken at-sea (so the material needs to be fairly easy to pack up).  Can anyone suggest a material/product that is waterproof (gets wiped/cleaned between specimens) and is flat (not shiny)?  Both black and white will be needed.  I've used plexiglass but get a lot of glare, and one cruise used a piece of black cloth with the kind of result you see in the photo.  Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Sharing a Night of Photographic Insomnia: HAYCORNS Version

The night just seemed to get weirder and weirder...  and then it carried into the next day...  It started off with me finding a bunch of pretty acorns and then remembering that acorns are called haycorns in Winnie the Pooh and that Tigger hates haycorns and then I noticed that some of the acorns looked like they had little hats and then I remembered the Silly Hats Convention and so forth... I wouldn't recommend going on a photography binge while sleep deprived.

How to replace batteries by an adapter for a photographical flash ?

Batteries in flashes are good for a one time flash but they are exhausted very quickly and it takes a long load time between two flashes. For stacking photography this is "nefast" Is there a possibility to make working flashes with an extern current provider or adapter? I work with several different flashes (Olympus TR 32 (2X), Olympus FL36R(1X), Metz 45 CT-1(1X) and Cactus AF 50 (3X). As you can see working with batteries is expensive and not ideal. Is there somebody with ideas about? Thanks

What is the most reputable, realistic way to sell photos.?

I am not a famous photogropher, but I do enjoy photography and have accumulated a pretty good collection of decent photographs over the years.  I've heard some hype about online stock photo selling, but the majority of it has that 'get rich quick' scam type feel to it.  I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with selling thier photos and would be willing to give me a bit of advice.  Thanks :-)

I already know how to make tamales, but I don't care for the deep red tamales. The pork tamales I prefer usually have an orangish to brownish hue in the meat. Also, I steam my tamales, but would also like to be able to do the boiling version, but have been unsuccessful. Have any of you tried the rice steamers for steaming? Thanks!

How can I etch a photograph of people into either plexiglass (or lucite, lexan, acrylic, etc) or regular glass?

But without using a laser etching machine? I've seen chemical etching into brass using chemicals that produces a detailed effect, but I want that on a see-through surface. I'm not good at free-hand painting, so using Armour Etch without a stencil/mask is essentially out of the question. Also, would Armour Etch work on plexiglass, even though it is a different material than regular glass (SiO2)? Thanks alot!

Waist Level Finder peripheral for a compact digital camera - Street photography!

Posting to here and cross-posting to Photography! Hoping someone can help. I'll be traveling to Japan in a month, and I have a simple point and click digital camera. I was hoping to get some candid street shots as well as in the stores/etc but I've heard people get a little nervous when foreigners are running around photographing stuff. I was researching ways to be a little more inconspicuous with getting photographs and one of the ways I found was a waist level finder. Basically, you can take photographs from your waist, and there's a little screen that points upwards to let you see what you're shooting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waist-level_finder Basically I was wondering if anyone had any ideas how to build one of these things that I could attach to a point and click camera? I imagine it'd be pretty ghetto, like cardboard and mirrors and tape haha. Any ideas would be much appreciated, thanks!

I haz a sad - Gorilla competiton

So I saw the Gorilla competition and it said - make a cardboard construction and enter it in our competition. So I made my construction, and went to enter it, and only then did I see that I was supposed to be making was an instructable. This may be obvious to anyone familiar with the site, but I had not entered a competition on here before, and it does not say anywhere in the rules that a series of photographs and instructions was part of the competition. So I have a very nice cat tower made from carboard tubes (which the kitties love), but only a final photograph. Sigh. I will know next time, but I think you should say that this is a competition to make an instructable, rather than just a finished object.
