Pixlr Photo Editor Not Working - is it only me?

This post is not about the Pixlr editor that was removed from the site. I use Pixlr express several times a week, and now it doesn't open up on any computer that I try.  Is there a chance that you could try to access pixlr express and let me know if it works on your computer? I've tried a few so far on all browsers, updated flash, restarted, etc. https://pixlr.com/express/ I just get a gray screen :( Thank you!

The Great Expression

Alright, before I start, let me point out that I am NOT trying to advertise here, because I can tell that it may seem that way. Since inventing is the essence of expression, I thought some of you guys may be interested. After alot of work, my partner and I will soon be ready to open The Great Expression. The Great expression is a project who's goal is to promote expressionism in all forms. There will be projects, each one having a topic, such as the war. People can submit works of art expressing their opinions on the topic. All of the appropriate work will then be displayed on the website, and as much as possible will be put on a poster. Delegates can then print out the poster (specifics haven't been decided) and display them in a public place. Such as the library. So, would anybody here be interested in such a thing? I'm just trying to get a feel for what kind of people would participate.

Recover Outlook Express data?

I'm trying to help a friend who's computer got into a state where windows would not boot. Windows repair and a few other tricks didn't work and he didn't have many programs so I just re-installed windows but not before taking a full image of the original drive state. Everything works great now except he says he had a lot of old emails saved that are gone now and his address book is empty. I already reconfigured outlook express to get his mail (standard pop3) and that's working fine but obviously his old stuff was not on the server nor was his address book. Since I have a copy of all his old data logically their should be a way to recover and manually bring his old email and address book into the new installation. However I wasn't able t do a proper export so basically all i have is a copy of the files from the old HDD. What files should I be looking to copy back from the old image and how should i import them so as to not destroy his new mail that's downloaded but still restore his old mail and contacts?

AMEX card not working?

Ive been trying to buy a lab pass for a game Im addicted to. I click the one month option, enter in the info, but it says my credit or debit card is declined! Im using a $50 dollar American Express gift card, but whenever I enter the information it says its declined. So i check on the website, it says everytime I tried (and failed) to use it, it deducts $1. Same for my Visa Gift Card. My mom opened a paypal account for me, but whenever I try it, it says the amount is too great for the card. (its $5.95 ) Does anyone have anyway to fix this?

Enter the Snap, Style & Share Photo Competition

Hey there. I'm the community manager for Pixlr. Wanted to tell you about a contest that might interest you.  We recently launched a contest that celebrates not just taking photos — but editing them, too. It’s a contest that’s perfect for students, but just about anyone between the ages of 13 and 24 can enter. We’ll be giving away some great prizes like an iPad, an iPad mini, and an Olloclip iPhone lens (among many others). The contest is called Snap, Style & Share, and that’s about all you have to do to enter: Snap a photo with your smartphone or camera. Style it in Pixlr Express to improve and enhance it. Share the before and after photos on the contest site — and anywhere and everywhere else that you think will give you a leg up on the competition. Everyone will vote for their favorite photos, with a panel of judges choosing the ultimate winners from a big batch of popular finalists. We’ll be tracking (and showing off) some of the top photos here on the Pixlr blog in the coming weeks, as well as some of the more interesting ones that catch our eye. Whether you’re a serious student of design, someone who loves exercising their creativity, or just someone with some great photos sitting on their phone from summer vacation, this is a fun and easy contest to enter. So, enter now!

"I Made It" Pixlr photo contest for Maker Month

Hey there! I work alongside the Instructables folks in our Pier 9 office as the community manager for Pixlr, a photo app that you may or may not be familiar with. Actually, the Instructables site uses Pixlr, so if you've submitted an Instructable, you have probably used our photo editor.  We know that the Instructables community LOVES contests, so I wanted to pass along this contest that is dead-simple to enter. We're celebrating Maker Month at Pixlr with a slightly Instructables-themed hashtag contest. You can read all about it on our site for the contest, but I will lay out the major details if you are interested in entering:  Take a photo of anything you've made.  Edit it in any Pixlr app (e.g., Pixlr Express). Tag photos with two tags — #imadeit #pixlrcontest — on Instagram, Twitter, Flickr, Pinterest, Tumblr, or Facebook. That's it. Super simple to enter. In fact, if you've ever submitted an Instructable, I encourage you to enter it in our contest by editing one of your Instructables photos with a Pixlr app and posting it with the hashtags so we can find it.  We're giving away 7 prizes through the end of May, and all winners get to pick a prize from this batch of fun prizes on our contest site: imadeitpixlrcontest.com. Lots of photo-friendly and just cool stuff on there, so you're bound to find something you like.  Happy to answer any questions you have, and I hope you join us for this fun little contest.

Congratulations Halloween Photo Editing Contest Winners

Congratulations to the winners of the Halloween Photo Editing Contest. We received a ton of great entries, and the 9 judges who evaluated the finalists had their work cut out for them. We pulled our judges from Instructables HQ and several people who had a hand in the creation of Pixlr. They used range voting on a scale of 1-9 judging entries based on clarity, ingenuity, creativity, quality of presentation, and execution of the Instructable. The winner, Hollymann and her Zipperface tutorial, created a project that was both glamorously disgusting and well-documented. The combination of final product and step by step process was a winning combination in the judges’ eyes. We really liked seeing supplemental text on top of the photos themselves, particularly because it was informative without being distracting. The special “Hooray! You used Pixlr!” judge’s prize went to doodlecraft’s Ghosts in a Graveyard project. Wrangling a four year old, taking 300 photos, and the quality of both the photos and the edits all contributed to win the judges over. The results were excellent, and doodlecraft might have snagged the top spot with some more screenshots and meta-explanation of which Pixlr tools she had used and why. The other entries were also excellent, and we at Instructables really appreciate the time and effort it takes to share a great project. The real winners here are all of the people looking to improve their photo-manipulation skills who now have a much larger repository of tutorials for a free and browser-based photo-editing application. Also, Halloween enthusiasts everywhere can now zip their faces and turn their friends and families into ghosts. (Among about 78 other awesome options.) Good work, everyone! Will this capacitive discharge welder design work?

I am planning to build a capacitve discharge welder so that I can tab weld my battery packs, and I have no intention of paying 2K plus.  I recently came across a fairly simple design, and was using it to design my own.  If anyone that has built one of these, or knows how to, can look at this design in detail, and inform me if I have the right componants, and in the right order, it would be greatly appreciated  *** Please, I know the dangers and risks to what I plan on building so please do not express your concerns here.  Everything has risks, but without risks their can be no reward.*** UPDATE I added a new diagrahm with the opto-iso and relay that you two recommended, not sure if its right yet, but its a work in progress

Update - Circuit problem: Can anyone figure out what may be causing this project to only work half way?

Ok, I have a recently built prototype of a circuit I was going to publish, but it is not working exactly as planned. It is not that it is not working at all, but it is acting strangely. What is happening: pairs are blinking alternately, when they should be blinking in sequence. Can anyone see a fundimental flaw in my drawing, or is it a possible soldering error. Opinions and insights welcome. PS: the included video is the first one I have even edited too (I forgot that the camera picked up sounds, and I had grunted, and verbally expressed surprise and it sounded inappropriate, so I edited it out.)PPS: I believe I have to declare FAILure on this one, at least for now. Sorry....

Free Music or a Way to Get iTunes into Final Cut Express? Answered

This is one of my major pet peeves. I'm growing tired of searching for back ally sites to convert music from one source (ie YouTube) to MP3 files, then download it (with a free virus as a bonus), all to get a song I already bought on iTunes into my videos! iTunes makes it impossible for anyone to do anything with their songs other then listen to them on ipods, which I don't even do. Personally, I think it's silly that I can't do anything with the songs I bought, it's a terrible waste of money. So, does anyone know how to bypass this, or know of another converter site. The one I used is no longer working. I'm making a video for AV class, but it won't be very effective without the music. Don't reduce me to recording the music off of my laptop speakers with a camcorder!

Why did Text/Photos Disappear from my Instructable? | HOW TO FIX!

If I had a dollar for every time I accidentally clicked on another place on the screen while working on an Instructable, resulting in loss of data... Even if you click the save button many times, if you suddenly quit, the editor won't remember what you did. I've seen SO MANY comments saying that the editor didn't save what they wrote right before uploading, so I decided to share what I do to help stop this... Most members will see this forum topic only when it's too late, but at least they might remember this for future I'bles... 1. Open a "Preview" version of the Instructable in a new tab. If your computer crashes, you might be able to restore previous tabs, and your computer should remember what was written in the preview. Then you can copy and paste everything where it needs to be... 2. Send yourself an email of each step. Just copy and words of each step and paste them on one draft email... 3. Take screenshots. At least you'll be able to see what you wrote... Hope this helps! Please leave ideas of what else you can do in the comments

Bouncing PC! How to secure PCI/PCIe cards and keep cables in place?

I have a desktop PC with a lot of components including a large number of PCI/PCIe cards. The problem I have is that the machine is regularly transported long distances by a variety of means, including rail, road and sea. What happens is that the (often quite generous) jars and jolts of the journey cause cables to fall out and cards to rise out of their slots at the unsecured end. Each time I have to open everything up and reseat everything. If the machine arrives somewhere where I'm not, it can't be used until I arrive. I've gotten around the problem of SATA cables falling out by purchasing cables that clip into place rather than just flap about in the usual fashion. What I don't know how to do is secure ribbon cables, audio cables, cards and the like.  Because of various constraints: - I can't use plastic zip ties (there's nowhere to secure them) - I can't use brackets (the cards are half height) - I can't swap out or modify the chassis The only option appears to be glue. Old fashioned sticky stuff. Thing is, I've read an awful lot of things on the web and while this question gets asked a fair amount there is no consensus. Some people say to use a conducting type (which seems plain idiotic, given that if applied to a PCI interface it'll short out), and others say to use a glue gun (which might introduce problems with regard to the heat and chemicals). The only suggestion that made sense was a silicon sealant from Loctite designed specifically for circuit boards - Tempflex - but there's almost no information about it and the word 'Temp' makes me concerned it's just a makeshift solution (no pun intended). It's also really too expensive to buy a tube and only then discover it won't work. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Those who participate will crochet/knit/stitch/patch/ or collage a 36"x36" fiber panel that will express each artists view on this topic. By taking the step to create a panel with any design, and sending it in, in the larger picture, is expressing your concern towards this topic. And I was having the most fantastic day......

Really I was, I got into work, and had no real tasks to accomplish since my mentor was home sick and his boss was sick. Except she was so sick she asked me to do her job. So I got to spend 9 hours escorting 4 PE's all over to different locations. Climbing on roofs, crawling through mechanical rooms. digging things up, getting wet and dirty, all while trying to maintain a professional appearance.  I loved it!  I can't even express how much I love going to work, being an engineer is awesome. But then I got home to discover a microburst had hit our neighborhood. And was filled with anticipatory dread as I noticed the 65 foot oak in front of my house was no longer visible over the neighbors roof line. Well, the pictures below speak for themselves, there was only one way this thing could fall and NOT hit something, and it fell just that way. And if I hadn't been home late from work, my much loved truck would have been right under the trunk.

New Editor Feedback

I just used the new editor for the first time, publishing a quick project, and starting a longer one. Short version: I like it. I particularly like being able to edit my images via Pixlr. Rotating and cropping on the fly were ideal. Longer, less-positive version: The "unordered list" and "order list" buttons added neither bullet-points nor numbers.  All they did was indent the text. There is an "intuition breakdown" adding images to steps - when I wanted to add images from my library, I thought I couldn't, until I discovered that the library can be accessed via the "Upload Images" button.  The "Upload Images" button ought to be renamed "Add Images". When using the "Upload Images" pop-up, the actual image upload function did not work.  I clicked the button, and nothing happened - no error message, no wait symbol, nothing. This is all experienced using my desk-top PC, running Windows XP and FireFox.

My computer crashes any time I load 3d stuff, can anyone please help??? (I have an intel graphics card) Answered

Okay, so I want to play minecraft again, and no matter what I do, I can't get it to work without crashing my computer.  I think the problem is graphics card related.  I used to be able to play minecraft on this computer.  One day, I was updating the graphics card drivers then minecraft quit working.  Now, the obvious solution would be to roll back the drivers, however since then I have started with a clean windows install and I just can't get it working again.  I would think the problem would be driver related, but I can't find a driver that works anywhere.  When I start minecraft I can login, open up a world, then in less than two seconds, my computer's screen goes black, then my computer reboots, followed by giving me the Windows has recovered from a serious error.  I Really need some help because this happens with a bunch of my games, and mc edit.  :P  I would love to be able to play minecraft again. System info: Windows XP SP3 fresh install Intel Q965/963 Express Chipset Family PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!! Pro if you can get it working!

The Copyright FAQ for Knitters

The Copyright FAQ for KnittersI've been trying to work up a human-readable description of copyright and patent law, as it applies to Instructables. In my research, I found this really interesting resource for those looking to better understand copyright law, and to see how it differs when applied to various crafts. Some highlights:A knitting pattern is by default copyrighted, but utilitarian items (clothing, for example) are not copyrightable. You can make and give away items made from a copyrighted pattern. You may not make and sell items made from a copyrighted pattern. A recipe is a process and cannot be copyrighted; only the expression of the recipe can be copyrighted. A patent is required to protect a process.

Is the led driver malfunctioning? or am I?

The led driver  http://www.parts-express.com/pedocs/manuals/073-048-parts-express-manual-7169.pdf Im using an arduino to fade LEDs through PWM. The code works on normal rgb LEDs, but i need it to be much brighter. I bought 3, 3 watt, HPLEDs. they are very very nice and bright. but only work with all colors full brightness... i have attached the arduino pins that controlled the normal rgb LEDs to the driver. but this does nothing different then if the pins were disconnected. also if i dont power up the driver and just plug in the arduino it will change the colors of the leds. but it will be just as bright as the normal ones because its only getting 5 volts instead of 13.5. also the color fade cycle acts really weird. not sure what thats all about or why it even does anything just with the arduino plugged in. Does anyone know where to get a decent LED driver? i have looked around for days and could not find what im looking for. this looked like my best option but its not working... thanks for your help. -Rex

Two or three of my six grand kids have the potential to be DefCon Kids now what ?

So I have access to six young minds by helping my wife and retired teacher to sit with them 4 days a week. Four I drive to school while the parents (my children) earn a living.  Two are easily motivated and do well with Legos.  One likes robots, they all do math window games. I teach chess and play when thy want ( no Queen or rooks for me ) Programming is my artistic expression but I would push too hard and blow them away. What low level intros can be a leap into DefCon Kid status that you know worked well in your experiences ?

Laptop wont play video smoothly, I've tried everything I can think of!?

I've got a compaq cq50-139wm laptop. It's single core cpu, 2 gig ram, intel centrino, intel express chipset 4 integrated graphics, I don't know exactly all what is the important factor here. See this page, it lists more specs:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01600619 I factory reset it using the recovery manager, took off all the bloat programs, nothing seems to be maxed out, (cpu, ram) we have 50 mbps internet, the laptop just not only cant stream video smoothly, it can't even play video smoothly. If I try to play a dvd or any type of video file using any video player, it just doesnt work, the video is still still choppy. Audio is fine. The laptop has windows vista home basic, I checked and microsoft auto update says the graphics drivers are up to date. I tied adding Service packs 1 and 2 but that didn't solve the issue.  I just dont even know what else I could try. Suggestions? Other than the video issue the laptop works quite well.

Prayer Requests

Prayer, the dictionary defines prayer as A solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to God. I recently went on a missions trip with my dad to Nicaragua and every night my mom would call and talk to me and my dad, I really enjoyed  being talked to and I caught myself thinking ,God enjoys being talked to way more than i do ,though he already knew what your going say and do before you were born.  Prayer is not a quick fix, or a click your heels three times, Prayer works, it wont always be yes. What kind of Father would he be if when his children asked for something, he said yes all the time. If you have Prayer requests for you or someone else, if its a private matter, just say you would like to be prayed for,and me and the prayer team will do our best to pray for you.

Jobs for the Creative Techs?

I love studying electronics and doing creative things with electricity. I was an artist/musician throughout all of my youth and decided to switch over to creative electronics after discovering the art of circuit bending. I want to get a degree involving creative applications of electricity, but I'm having trouble getting a clear picture of what the job market is going to be like after i graduate. I am wondering what creative positions are available, not just with Instructables but in general. Are there any particular companies that would be good to look into? I'm trying to plan my degree so that it will be appealing to the companies i want to work for. I was an artist before i was a tech/engineer so I'm particularily interested in things such as product design, creative tech projects, animatronics, sculpture and art/music installations. Any advice would be great, I'm eager to find a job that will require my creativity and that isn't mundane. Is creativity something that is reserved to be expressed in my spare time or can it exist within the job market as well?

Can I get a good PC setup for filmmaking?

Hello, I'm a film maker and I am currently running Mac system which I can't get along with. I have Final Cut Express and Paint (creating 2D images for background, not animation) as my only film making tools. It's not enough so I decided I'm going to make a PC that would specialize in film making, and maybe feature one touch screen out of the two allowing me to do animation. Basically I want to know what programs I would need to get for serious film making. I'm thinking an editing system that would work well with special effects and maybe on for just cutting and moving clips (if the other program doesn't do that well) I also want a 2D animation system thats simple (don't go crazy) but I'm taking care of the 3D myself (suggestions will be considered) Any ideas?

Instructables business

Hi Lee, This sounds like a good thing to discuss in our Forums or our Q and A section of the site. Please post your question there and watch the discussion develop! Set "Graphical Search" as your default search method!

The fact that I have to click "Graphical Search" after each search I do using the instructables search bar has started to annoy me recently. I found a solution to allow me to set the default result as the graphical search instead of the less useful google search page. To use this "hack" (or workaround if you prefer) you will need two things. Firefox and the Redirector extension for firefox. It's really simple to make work. If you haven't got Firefox, download and install it. If you have all you need to do is download the Redirector extension which redirects you from one chosen URL to another. Once installed, restart Firefox then click "Tools" then "Redirector". You will see this box: Click "Add..." then add the following lines before saving. Include Pattern: https://www.instructables.com/pages/search/search.jsp(.*)q=(.*) Redirect To: https://www.instructables.com/tag/?q=$2 Pattern Type: Regular Expression It's as easy as that! Now any time you use a search bar on instructables it will default to the graphical search not the google search. I've been using this a few hours now and all seems great. If you come across any problems or instances in which it doesn't work please post below to let me know. Enjoy!

I'm speaking in Westminster Abbey...

Well I've just heard that I'm one of 20 young people in the whole of the Uk going to westminster to speak and be consulted about child services and bereavement, on 6th of may I go over to speak, damn this is cool I will have a say in something... Out of the group that was asked for candidates four of us were chosen from our recent video project work, I was selected because I apparently have good ideas and am skilled at arguing points and expressing my self sensibly... Woot skills...The whole thing is about improving child services around the UK and I've got to say it's about time... There are very few decent social workers and the system is pretty bad on the whole, minimizing the effect of decent social workers and the like, counsellors are soon going to be boning up on dealing with bereaved kids due to our video project along with teachers and if the funding goes through we may be doing another on helping friends or ourselves... Any suggestions from the UK people here in following withA friend in need is a friend indeed Coping with it?

How should I improve my Instructables so that they get featured?

I started off quite well with Instructables. My Instructables were also featured. I was enjoying it a lot. Just when I thought that I'm understanding the platform and can contribute well to it, I was proved wrong.  From past few days, my Instructables were not featured and I'm wondering why? Am I not putting enough pictures? But I document each and every step! Am I making grammatical mistakes? But I check my drafts twice or sometimes thrice before publishing. Moreover, I use "Grammarly" which automatically detects the mistakes. Is the problem in my writing pattern? Well,  I don't write long paragraphs, I just make bullet points to make the steps easy to read and follow. Am I not providing enough steps? Apart from the usual steps, I also provide advanced steps for almost all my Instructables. Is the problem in the introduction or main image? I try my best to express my idea in the introduction and as for the images, I use the advanced Renders. Are my ideas not unique? But I search the website before working on an idea. Are they very simple to do? But, it's meant to be simple. It's basically for the beginners.  Well, I work on Fusion 360 and I only contribute to the Technology: Software channel as of now. Is this the problem? I feel that if I'm investing my time on a project, working so hard to document it and contributing to a community, that should be good enough. Else, is it even worth sharing? I have 20 Instructables now, of which only 13 are featured. Not every Instructable can be featured and I understand that but there must be something I'm not doing the right way. I'm seeking for some honest opinion here on how to improve my Instructables.

PCB Trace Width Questions

Hello instructioners, So i am working on a PCB to use my XBOX 360 power supply as a standard 12volt 16 amp without hacking it apart. I've taken the female plug from a dead Xbox and I've recreated the layout in ExpressPCB. my only issue is being that its 16 amps @ 12volts is the trace widths to hold that much power are ridiculously wide we are talking 7mm or there abouts. I used several different online calculators to determine trace width.  My question is..  how small can i get away with for traces and still get 16amps.. is there a way of bridging the front and back side of a 2side PCB to allow for more amperage on smaller traces? i am really at a loss here. since my PCB is set at 38mm by 38mm and the connector size is 27mm long by 23mm wide. with 7mm wide traces i can't connect all the power pins together and all the ground pins together and route them out. Now i realize the 16amps is max draw but i'd like to plan for a max draw situation that way i feel confident enough to not have to check it all the time to make sure its not melting. Below is an image of the current board in Express PCB the labeled Thru-hole are connections i will need to make for this all to work. the other remaining holes are for mounting the female jack securely. The three yellow boxed connections are 12v+ The three greyed boxed connections are gnd ENG is bridged to +5 to make the XBOX PSU provide 12v

FAA Ruling ends FPV and will destroy RC Model Aircraft industry is USA

Hello, This is a serious matter. Please read and act. Deadline is July 25. Please see this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYs815t4knQ Then please go to this website and read  the document "Interpretation of the Special Rule for Model Aircraft". http://www.regulations.gov/#!docketDetail;D=FAA-2014-0396 To summarize, the FAA has deemed that a sweeping, blanket regulation is necessary to take care of an issue created by a few dumb individuals making bad decisions. Because a very, very small few people who never touched a RC model aircraft before buy a DJI Phantom and decide to fly it over crowded city streets crashing into buildings and and almost hurting people, the larger hobby community is now paying the penalty of those dumb people. Why it matters to me: I just got into the hobby and I am not flying FPV yet. Actually I cannot fly FPV until I get my FCC Ham License. I am following the rules. I do NOT fly over people, cars, streets, buildings. I do not fly over private property other than my own. I DO fly within line of site of my aircraft, under 400 ft, in open fields or isolated locations. I do keep my aircraft in good working order. I am an AMA member, have insurance in case of RC accidents, have my AMA number inscribed on my model. So I do everything within regulations. Most RC modelers and AMA members do. But we all pay the price because some bonehead goes to amazon and buys a ready built aircraft and on the first flight takes it to a crowded school playground and crashes it on someone's car. I want to grow into this hobby and advance to FPV. I do it legally, responsibly, and safely. I use this hobby to freely express myself in a safe, harmless way. this hobby is enjoyable, challenging and has forced me to be innovative. I actually invented something that I want to share in instructables one day. Why it should matter to you: The government is slowly eroding away our rights. This regulation criminalizes a hobby that has been enjoyed by generations. Done responsibly, the hobby is safe, enjoyable, promotes innovation and gives people a way to express themselves. It is also an industry that many people rely on to make a living. The FAA as a government agency, is overstepping their authority and threatening our freedom to conduct ourselves are citizens in a safe manner. under this ruling, a RC model operator does something innovative (it does not have to be FPV related) shares it on instructables, and wins a prize from one of the many GREAT contest in intructables... Guess what, that instructables member is NOW a CRIMINAL. You are not allowed to get any compensation for RC Model hobby. under this ruling, you cannot fly FPV in an isolated forest capturing wonderful video and posting that video on the internet as an expression of your creativity. That my friends is Freedom of Expression being undermined. That video is now incriminating evidence that you broke the law. Even though that video harms no one. Under this ruling, an individual who invents a new RC airplane, mass produces it and sells it to others is a criminal because RC models is only for amateur hobby. Any monetary gain is criminal. So it is criminal for someone to innovate and try to make a living from that innovation. Do not let the government overstep their authority over us citizens. I ask that you respectfully tell the FAA to consider reversing their ruling. Ask them to go not take the easy route of making a over-generalized, sweeping, blanket regulation that impacts everyone in the hobby, past, present and future. instead, have them create regulation that target the the unsafe operators who make poor choices. thank you.

Arduino Debugger Preview - 10 Beta Testers Required

The Visual Micro Arduino debug tools seemlessly combine simple debug features into the free Visual Studio plugin. The tools allow us to make use of the source code breakpoint features of Visual Studio. Please read and understand all of these documents if you are working on dangerous projects such as critical devices and/or moving machines. There are 15 draft documents available on visualmicro.com, this is a link to the first document Arduino Debugger Overview In the image below we can see a number of debug breakpoints, some are conditional. In the code, the old style debug messages are commented because they are no longer needed :) The debugger includes optional trace or break, jump to source, edit and continue. All Arduino variables or expressions can be included in breakpoint reporting. String messages are not stored on the Arduinio which allows long an informative messages to be created without using Arduino RAM and without need to alter source codes. The debug upgrade is expected to be free for educational use, $50 hobby use, $200 commercial use. 10 beta testers are required whom will each be provided with a free license. Please contact instructablesbeta@visualmicro.com Due for release June 2012

Idea for Social Electronic Art

Hi everyone, I have been working on an idea for a new type of electronic creative art form. Social media has increasingly become cloud and computer-based, enabling people to network and share ideas and concepts online with others from around the world; this community is an excellent example of the power of electronics in fostering shared creativity. Art has always been an important aspect of society, bringing people together through the power of self-expression. In recent years, graffiti parks have become a popular method for communities to express themselves in a constructive way. In the area of electronics, circuitry and robotics have become increasingly accessible through open-source programs such as Arduino, enabling anyone to build complex and beautiful projects in their own garages (or anywhere!). This idea focuses on blending the social aspect of conventional art mediums with the untapped potential of electronic technology. One new technology in particular that has taken the first step towards merging the different fields of creativity is conductive ink and paint, created by Bare Conductive. This graphene-based material enables users to paint circuits and electrical systems onto most surfaces, opening up the entire world as a building area. Essentially, this is the focus of the idea- creative communities making the world their canvas through the power of conductive ink and open-source electronics tools. Imagine the possibilites! Walls covered with lights that can be activated by touching a drawn image, buildings covered with playable arcade games and interactive media, and childrens' parks with community-sourced learning tools on the play area! Of course, there's another aspect here; the social possibilities. See a circuit that someone didn't ever finish, or a piece of electronic art that you wanted to expand? Whip out your Arduino kit and ink bottle, and draw it in! Every wall would tell a story, and it would never stop growing. Our imaginations would be the only limit... What does everyone think of this idea? Let me know any thoughts or input you might have!

The Power of Making: V&A Museum, London

"Making is the most powerful way that we solve problems, express ideas and shape our world. What and how we make defines who we are, and communicates who we want to be... Many people think that craft is a matter of executing a preconceived form or idea, something that already exists in the mind or on paper. Yet making is also an active way of thinking, something which can be carried out with no particular goal in mind. In fact, this is a situation where innovation is very likely to occur. Even when making is experimental and open-ended, it observes rules. Craft always involves parameters, imposed by materials, tools, scale and the physical body of the maker. Sometimes in making, things go wrong. An unskilled maker, hitting the limits of their ability, might just stop. An expert, though, will find a way through the problem, constantly unfolding new possibilities within the process." I just found out about an exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London; The Power of Making. The V&A; and Crafts Council celebrate the role of making in our lives by presenting an eclectic selection of over 100 exquisitely crafted objects, ranging from a life-size crochet bear to a ceramic eye patch, a fine metal flute to dry stone walling. Power of Making is a cabinet of curiosities showing works by both amateurs and leading makers from around the world to present a snapshot of making in our time. The exhibition showcases works made using a diverse range of skills and explores how materials can be used in imaginative and spectacular ways, whether for medical innovation, entertainment, social networking or artistic endeavour. Making is the most powerful way that we solve problems, express ideas and shape our world. What and how we make defines who we are, and communicates who we want to be. For many people, making is critical for survival. For others, it is a chosen vocation: a way of thinking, inventing and innovating. And for some it is simply a delight to be able to shape a material and say ‘I made that’. The power of making is that it fulfills each of these human needs and desires. Those whose craft and ingenuity reach the very highest levels can create amazing things. But making is something everyone can do. The knowledge of how to make – both everyday objects and highly-skilled creations – is one of humanity’s most precious resources. Items on show include a life-sized crocheted bear, an electric guitar worn on a high heel, extreme cake decorating, and our old friend the Makerbot. The show also includes a Tinkerspace - meet designers, and see Making in action

VB 2008 AxWindowsMediaPlayer Control Help?

Hey everyone. If your an advanced user in Visual Basics 2008 Express Edition, I could use some help. Right now, I'm working on a video presentation program for my Home Theater PC. I'm planning on hooking up my computer to my T.V and using it as a secondary screen. I will then run an HDMI cable to my monitor, and use that as my main screen. My mouse and keyboard are wireless so it won't pose a problem. But, anyways. I'm getting off topic... I made a form with a bunch of controls on it. It has 10 textboxes for video URLs and 5 textboxes for audio URL. It has 2 AxWindowsMediaPlayers on it. One for music, the other for video. The main one (Bigger one) will be used for video, and it will also act as a control window. So, when I click play one one the textboxes, it will open the file up one both Media Players and will begin to play. I know the coding for that, its just I need to know how to control the 3rd Media Player, on a different form. So basically, the 3rd Media Player would copy the 1st media player. Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

Attempting my first custom figure - Ferra/Torr

Hello, I've decided to finally try my hand at doing a custom figure. I want to try and make Ferra/Torr from Mortal Kombat X. Little guys riding on big guys is one of my favorite things for some reason. I figure it's probably best to start with Torr (the big guy). Right now I'm looking for ideas on what to use for the base body. I'm leaning towards a Marvel Select Ultimate Hulk as my base figure. I like his facial expression and his hand situation - one closed fist and one open hand with big grody fingernails. I have some concerns though, I've heard his articulation isn't as good as some other MS hulks. Does anyone have some insight into this? Would I be able to get him into a sort of hunched over pose? The little picture on the left shows the size relations between Ferra/Torr and a regular person. I was kind of thinking of going with a bigger scale and using real materials for the cloth and armor and whatnot. I work in a metal shop, so I could probably make the metal bits and bobs. Again, I have no idea if that would be a nightmare or not. Thanks, Me
