Paint Plastic To Copper Tubing

I'm making a prop that requires a length of coiled copper tubing & I don't have the cash to buy it. I need a plastic tube that is malleable into a coil & I can spray paint it a copper color. I've experimented with some types of plastic cover electric cord & aquarium tubing & both, the plastic reacted with the paint & never dried.  I need to know what types of plastic tube I can ether paint myself & wont melt the plastic, or point me in the detection of were I can find copper colored plastic tubing, or name the types of plastic tube that wont react to certain types of paint.

What is this plastic tubing called? Answered

Hi all, I came across these woven plastic tubing which when squeezed on either end turn into toy rockets in a science and technology museum and I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of where I could source more of these things. I recall they were named 'boone rockets' but that's been a fruitless internet search. I would love to apply this product to jewellery/sculpture so it would be good to know what the process/technology is called. Cheers!

plastic/metal tube branding?

I am looking to brand my own products for my store. The products are small tube batteries about the size of a sharpie's body. They come in two materials, a plastic/rubber material that is difficult to scratch/dent but has a soft feel and the other is a stainless or anodized metal. I see two possibilities for branding but need help figuring out how to accomplish the desired effect. 2) I transfer my logo onto the tube by rolling it over a stamp with an ink/epoxy of some sort ( *magic ink* product unknown)\ 3) I get decals printed/made and transfer them onto the material. I don't know much about decals or permanent printing liquids, and would like to hear from you what you think! Please check out the attached picture as well

Find/make frosted glass/plastic tubing

I'm building an audio vu meter, and thought the LEDs would look nice enclosed in some frosted tubing, but I'm having trouble finding any. Something like a fluorescent tube would be perfect, but the coating on the inside of them rubs off fairly easily (is it phosphorous based?), and cutting these things open isn't usually recommended (they have small quantities of mercury in, I believe). It's easy enough to find perspex tubing on ebay, but it's all clear - I really want something translucent, so that the LEDs give a glow of light, rather than a point. Is there something I can coat glass or perspex with to create this effect? Or am I searching for the wrong words? I sometimes see the fluorescent tubes referred to having a satin finish, but that hasn't helped

IWhat's the most flexible, clear or translucent white, plastic tubing? Answered

I'm working on a multicolored mask with EL wire and want to string the wire through tubing. I need tubing that's got an ID of .5" (at least), and is preferably frosted (translucent) white (though clear will work), and quite flexible. I had originally thought of using Nylon-12 flex tubing in a natural color, but I'm not sure that the natural color is translucent. Does anyone know of a specific product like this?

what can I make out of several hundred meters of red plastic tubing of between 9 and 13mm diameter?

I have about 5 reels, each of around 40+ meters of red plastic tubing.  Each one is a slightly different diameter, ranging from around 9mm to 14mm.  I believe that it was originally intended for the repair of church organs. The question is, what can I possibly make from this stuff?

where to find thin wall plastic tube?

Hi, I'm building a wind tunnel, and want to achieve a more laminar flow. I've tried drinking straws but they seem to stop the air flow too much. So I made a much larger bore honeycomb with toilet roll tubes. That worked a lot better, so now I'm after something a little better looking. Does anyone have any ideas for where to source a few meters of thin wall plastic tubing? About 25mm -> 35mm diameter. Transparent would be ideal. Thanks!

Instant setting epoxy, resin, or plastic?

Does anyone know of something that is cheapish and suitable for 3D printing by being extruded from a thin tube, and cures immediately on contact with a dried bit of itself, or exposure to another chemical or something?  It must be practical to put though a tube at low pressure, and again, cure almost instantly once it comes out of the tube.  Traditional 3D extruders will NOT work, as the device needs to be able to distribute to hundreds of tiny tubes at once (I cant cut a plastic filament into 300 pieces lengthwise, if you can, good job!), plus that I would have only about 1/4"-1/8" x 1/4"-1/8" x 6" to fit the device into.

Square tubed sign post with holes?

Hey all, I'm in warren Michigan area. I found a great place for some decent sized scrap hardwood like maple, oak, cherry. Sometimes walnut or other more exotic types. North of warren in Fraser there is a cabinet company called audia, in the back they have a large amount of 1-1/2" wide X20' lengths! Also, a place called laired plastics has an assortment of different color, sheet plastics various thicknesses as well as blocks of white plastics. In the back they have several bins with different material in each one...  Now, i need a place to get square tubing with the holes in them. I need about 12' of it but i don't need any piece longer than 1' anyone know of the business types that would specifically deal with this stuff? I see them knocked down by cars very often, i can work with those! Lol i just need to know where to look to find them. Google has an overwhelming amount of suppliers, but i don't need long sticks i just need some scraps... Call me cheap, buti would like to find them for as free as possible!

We get ALOT of foam, all shapes, sizes, and textures, and I have no idea how to reuse it...then we also have these long rectangular tubes that hold electronic chips in them, however when they get to us, we take them out and put them in bags, so we no longer need the thin tubing, do you guys have any ideas? I've attatched photos. Thanks! Lita L.

I Need information for melting PET plastic at home Answered

I want to melt PET plastic at home. I want to make a clear tube. I know i have to dry the plastic as much as possible to keep it clear. I will dry the plastic by exposing it to a lower temperature than its melting point for few hours. I plan to melt the plastic into a liquid and pour it into a mold. For the mold i will use 2 fire resistant pipes, and pour the plastic in the gap. Are there any hazards to this, like toxic fumes? Can i use 2 fire resistant pipes as a mold? Is there a better way to dry the plastic? If i forgot to ask something important please answer that too. thank you for the answers.

Making water cooled shoes need some advice about thin copper tube fittings.

Essentially i want to make water cooled shoes from some of the spares i have from my old pc water-cooling set up.  I want to run some thin copper tubing around the shoe which will connect to the some metal fittings that will then connect to my rubber tubing and then to the pump and the radiator. Now i know about the fittings that are available for the regular copper tubing that runs in houses but this tubing will be around 4mm and im not sure how to connect this tubing to my metal fittings which are about 3/8th of an inch i believe.  I was thinking to just use some epoxy putty or something but im sure there are better ways to do this. so any ideas?  im sure fittings are available but i dont know what they're called i couldn't get anything with a quick google search.  Edit: i didn't realise response here would be so thoughtful and all. I dont want to be able to walk around in these i just want to sit in my room and be comfortable. The heat difference probably wouldn't be too large between my feet and the air for a huge transfer so i also had thought to add a small water bath with a second small radiator init.  The copper tubing doesnt have to be directly under my feet i realise they'd probably be crushed otherwise. but the heat conduction through them must be so much better then the plastic tubing.

Large plastic tube with spirals round it, like a massive toilet roll?

Hi,I need some very large pipe, between 45 cm and say 90 cm. I just need about 150 cm length- again, fairly flexible here.  either thin metal or even better probably, fairly thin plastic (say 2-4mm walls if in plastic.) NOT CORROGATED. And, ideally (pretty vital really but looking a bit bleak to find this) made in the same way as a loo roll: with one or two pieces of material that twist around each other so that the pipe has curving spiral joint along its length. Any ideas much appreciated, I don't know where to begin really. What industry should I phone up and annoy with enquiries? I 'll try builders surplus yards I guess, and I thought people who dig up roads and replace water pipes might have stuff.. Or direct from manufacturers, although so far everything I look at is just straight tube, not made in the spiralled way I'm after. CLUES PLEASE !!! Thanks, Georgie

how to fix holes in a polyethylene/polypropylene solar heat exchanger Answered

This solar heat exchanger is a 5m sq flat sheet consisting of two layers of black polypropylene or polyethlene (not sure which)with rows of fine bore plastic tubes sandwiched between through which water is pumped from the pool at low pressure. The water warms whilst passing through the system, then empties back into the swimming pool, hence, free pool heating. After 2 seasons of use, there are a few leaks at the joints where the fine tubes meet the main inlet tube. I tried to seal them with glass fibre, then cyano-acrylate resin...nothing stcks to this type of plastic. Any ideas for sealing these holes? The plastic is too fine to use a heating method.

D.i.y. (plastic) nuts (for any kind of thread)

For emergencies or simple application: how to make your own nuts out of (p.e.t.)-plastic bottles:take a bottle (#1 plastic, preferably smooth, w/o imprinted patterns or design etc) > cut off bottom and neck > start cutting (scissors) > the resulting ´tube´ into a consistent (width, depending on desired usage), slightly diagonally, thus sort of ´peeling´ it > wrap the strip around the screw/threaded-part/etc you need the nut for twice (for a start) > ´melt´ the edges of the wrapped part = joining them (i use a little solder-iron) > this way the wrapped beginning of the strip wont come loose > ´brush´ with the solder-iron (or whatever other source of heat) over the wrapped part (w/o) burning holes in it > this causes the plastic to shrink and press down into the thread and adopt its shape > once set keep doing more wraps of the rest of the strip until you reach a desired diameter > now, again, join the edges of the wrap with heat, and afterwards brush again over the outside of the created ´nut´, so that the plastic shrinks down & compacts > after having cooled off: unscrew the ´nut´ with pliers > ready for useps this is just a simple sketch. got no camera to take photos. sorry. so, please, ask whatever if you got any question. and any kind of feedback is more than welcome. bowing.

Need help to make a project Answered

I need to build a project where a proximity sensor of a person (1 - 3 ft) would cause a very small motor to press a plastic bottle once per cycle. The cycle should only be able to be activated once between 10 - 15 minutes.  The soft plastic bottle would be no more that 2 - 4 cm diameter 7 - 8 cm long with a tube connected to it's tip and the bottle would be inverted to allow gravity to allow the liquid to move down the tube. The idea is to get just 1 drop to drip from the tube. I would want the power source to be a rechargeable  AA 1.4v up to 8 - 9v rechargeable battery.  This will be my first electronics project so please keep it as simple as possible.
