Is it polite to make an instructables on something that someone else has posted one on?

Hi there!  I am a rather new member of instructables, and I am not sure about something.  Is impolite to post an instructables on something that someone else has made an instructables on years ago?  It is nothing big or amazing; it is just a simple project.  I thought up the idea a while back and used it extensively, but when I was ready to do an instructables on it, I found someone beat me to it.  :) Thanks for the help.  I just want to know what the polite thing to do is.

Recover previous work

Hi, First time using instructables. I was finishing a tutorial and found out that I wouldn't be able to finish it that time so I closed it to finish the other day. When I came back I found out that it is not saved anywhere. Is it possible to recover it or do I have to do everything again?

Everytime I add a new step, it mimics the previous step.

Hi Everytime I try to add a step in my instructable, the new step shows up, but it is not empty.  It shows the same data that is in my introduction.  If I add several steps, the same things happens.  if I try to delete any information from any of these steps, all of the steps show the same change....

Back to the Future contest opened a bit late

So, as we all know, the day that Marty McFly travels to in 2015 is fast approaching (October 21). As a big BTTF fan, I put together an entire Marty McFly costume complete with holographic hat, Nike Air Mags, and jacket. A couple of days ago I posted an Instructable on how to make the jacket, but now it seems I am ineligible to enter the Back to the Future contest that just opened today. (I didn't even know about it because it wasn't on the upcoming contests forum post or the contest page of the app) Obviously, I'm pretty bummed and honestly it seems kind of late for the contest to start only two weeks from the day that people are going to want to have a bunch of BTTF props and costume pieces put together, don't you think? I actually rushed to get my tutorial finished because I wanted to be sure that others in the community would have enough time to follow it and make their own. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a way I could still enter. I would just post a new, improved Instructable for the same thing, but I don't want to feel like I'm spamming or have my featured percentage to go down. =\

BooHoo Previous Comment Persons

Hello,  Reading some of instructables comments necessitates me to comment on you! I find Instructables as having interesting content which has appeal to a variety of people  regardless of their mental capacities.  Items portrayed on the site are creations of every class of people. Having a special talent, each of them feeling a little pride, bravely present their subject matter with instructions,  pictures, videos, FAQ, help? and their names are printed on the website. Speaking to the big shots who know it all.  This is not a specific website geared to the most intelligent humans like yourselves.  If it looks like a project for a 5 year old---it probably is! Clever mistake observers, nice of you to point it out.  Did you fail at the project?  Did you do something wrong?  If after you check yourself and it happens that you are right.  Why not have a little consideration, call or email Instructables, insuring the situation is clarified by the important people involved.  You would be saving the embarrassment, ridicule and self-esteem of an individual, or didn't you think of that? Instructables your website is unique, interesting, educational, subject matter is something about anything! The site has helped me babysit, fight boredom, release stress and laugh hysterically! Thank All of You at I.,  Amrie C

constant reloggin & returning to previous page

I use the latest Firefox and have a problem with this site only, so I'm assuming it's the website and not the browser. When I go to a next page, the browser many times has to re- log me (if I've only been on that page for less than a few seconds, it doesn't do that). Also when I go to a next page, it'll briefly show that next page, but then jerk me back to the very first page. EX1: Viewing the entries for a contest and click on the next page, it'll jerk me back to page one or it'll even take me to the contest details page. EX2: Viewing items under a subject that has several pages. I click on the next page (or even the next number, does for both ways), it briefly shows that next page and then jerks me back to page 1.  I can be on page 10 and click on 11 and it jerks me back to page 1. This has been happening for a couple of months now, so it doesn't seem to be going away. Any ideas?

Problems with Excel formula? (semi-related to previous questions)

Hi all, i've got a problem with a formula in my excel spreadsheet that i'm using to get the scores for NFL teams 1978 - Current i have the data ok but the problem is with matching the the specific games. i've CONCATENATED the data to provide unique data points also it's in two columns (Home & Visitor) in the format of YearTeamW/L/DScore     eg. 2012TitansW35 in the VERY unlikely event (and i've check a random selection) that the team has 2 wins at home with the same score this could cause an error. here is the formula i'm using: (version ~8000zzzzz lol) (all one formula, just added a line break to make it fit) =(IF(MATCH($A$3&$B$2&"w*",Home_Team,0)=MATCH($A$3&$C$2&"l*",Visitor,0),INDEX(Visitor,MATCH($A$3&$C$2&"l*",Visitor,0)) ,IF(MATCH($A$3&$B$2&"d*",Home_Team,0)=MATCH($A$3&$C$2&"d*",Visitor,0),INDEX(Visitor,MATCH($A$3&$C$2&"d*",Visitor,0))))) Here's a link to the folder with the spreadsheet. (NFL Stuf (test).xlsx) Sheet: Past Season Summary - what is says. eventually where the formula is going. Sheet: nfl2011lines - 92   - the data (actually 1978 - 2012 but i named it before i added all the data) Sheet: TESTING - my "sandbox" so i don't [Censored] the main sheets Semi-Related Question1 Semi-Related Question2

How do I rewire a Yamaha CT3 magneto that was disassembled by the previous owner?

I was recently given a project bike, a 1973 Yamaha CT3.  The engine was partially disassembled and the magneto was taken apart.  I'm trying to reassemble it, but I'm not sure what wires to hook up where.  The schematic I have is a top level schematic of the entire bike.  Any advice would be appreciated. I'm trying to get it looking like the picture, but now it's only in pieces. I've uploaded some pics of what I have reassembled so far.  The capacator is still on the bike.  I added the coils back to the plate of the stator, but no wires are connected.

Advertisers have great parts, how to get listing of current and all previous advertisers?

Where is that one time advertiser with the good gadgets you wanted? Wouldn't it be cool if Instructables made a complete list of all advertisers available to us so we could find that one-time company and buy their items? How many times have you wished you would have clicked on that ad, then you never see it again? Many times for me, many times. Please, Instructables Team, consider giving us the ability to reach out to companies who are no longer running ads with you. I know it seems like unpaid advertising for them, but you can always remind the companies that you have sent them "x" number of customers and this proves they should run ads again with you. Thank you.

I went back to an old instructable(https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Weave-on-a-Frame-Loom/ ) to answer a question posted in a comment when I noticed that the text is missing from step 2.  I am pretty sure there was something written in step 2, but it seems to have disappeared.  I don't have a pdf copy of the instructable nor do I remember what was written there.  Is there any way to retrieve it, I tried using the history to revert to a previous version, but there was no previous version to revert to.  I have no idea when it had disappeared or why.

Can a polypropylene water main be repaired.?

I wanted to tap into a polypropylene water main.  I had some previous experience with this type of pipe in my city.  I tried to used a PVC barb fitting coupling with SS hose clamps.  But these pipes have been in the ground in my city about 30 years.  The pipe seems to be brittle with age.  I had to  use a torch to get the previous 1" pipe to slip onto the barb fitting.  It held for about 2 months, then split and began to leak at the repair.  My plumber friend tells me his company will not touch these pipes.  They just replace the whole water main with copper pipe (for about $2200!).

Halloween Contest (Entering older Instructables) Answered

I recall that in the past there was an exception to the contest rules for Halloween that allowed you to enter Instructables that were published before the contest start date, as long as they were published after the previous Halloween contest had closed.I'm struggling to find the option to enter two of my previous I'bles in the current Halloween contest, I figure that either the option has not been enabled on the contest yet or I'm missing something / doing it wrong.
