Idea for a new prop red dot sight...

I really liked the red dot sight from CoD MW and MW2, so I thought that it may be possible to make one in real life.    If you got some thin acrylic, only ~4mm thick (the clear colourless plastic kind) and a small laser pen inside the gun, you could have the laser shine up to a small point upon the acrylic. Or, you could adapt on this and have a very small laser unit on the base of the RDS (where it would clip onto the rails) hidden of course, and have it shine on to the acrylic.    The one thing that I hate about the RDS is that you only have one bearing point. I don't see how it would aid you in any way, because one dot isn't enough to aim with. You would have to line it up with some other sight. Something which could work is an ACOG (advanced combat optical gunsight) where on each of the lenses is a bearing point which you could line up.

Knexwise, do you prefer decent iron sights or a decent dot sight?

So which do you prefer... which do you think would be more popular... This should have really been a poll... but oh well. I meant in terms of looks... because knex guns are so inacurate that it barely makes a difference...

XBOX 360 Slim red dot with E82 error on screen?

We have had our xbox 360 slim for a good few months now and within the last month or so, a red dot has been appearing on the power ring in place of the green power light after about 10 seconds of being powered up. The error code that is displayed is E82 and we have it connected through HDMI and when we did some research on the problem, it looks like it is a HDMI error and we have it feeding through a Onkyo amp. The Red Book of Westmarch Insider

Ever since I was a young lad (XD) I have wanted to learn whatever I could. How to clean a firearm, how to change the oil in a car, how to sight in a scope, how to string and fire a bow, the list goes on. An item included in that list is how to make a website. So, as many of you may know, I made a website (using Weebly), called The Red Book of Westmarch Insider. I decided to make this forum topic to let you guys know about some of the new stuff on the site. I have a couple of new polls, one Up to Date post, and a rather large Video Series page. I also have the ability to make a forums page, but I chose not to do that, as I was not sure as to: 1) how it would work, 2) whether or not you could post pictures, and 3) if anyone would be interested. I also made this forum topic so that I could let you guys know when I have something new on my site. You don't need to post any comments or anything, this forum topic is just to give you quick links to new posts and stuff on my site. -The Red Book of Westmarch

I have a 16x32 dot-matrix board and need help with the Arduino code?

I recently pulled this display off of a slot machine and I wanted to hook it up to my Arduino. It is a 16x32 red dot-matrix driven by three LC7932 16-bit LED drivers. I've found the pin-outs for the board but to my dismay I can't find any Arduino code that supports: (3)SIN (I think this is signal) CLOCK, LATCH, STROBE. I know a lot about electronics but not so much on the coding. Also the board data sheet is in Taiwanese (go figure) so there's minimal English any help is greatly appreciated :-)

Red's Reliable (R3) Mods and Review

Whatup. So I built Red's Reliable (R3). It was pretty ownage, but there were a few things that popped out at me as annoying, but easily fixed/modded: -Flimsy trigger guard and short trigger -The mag wasn't preloadable -Looked a little long (imo) -Asymmetric at 6 layers -Pin was hard to grasp and could wobble once pulled -Back sights were flimsy -Pieces would break where the pin hit the gun Now, these are all the negative things, but in the original gun, the positives outweigh them. Here are all the things I love about this gun: -Looks AMAZING -Fires green rod/grey connector ammo, my second favorite type -Shoots 35-45 feet (for me), so pretty powerful at close-mid range -Really good pin pull distance -Sturdy -Almost never jams -Reliable mech (heh heh) -Did I mention it looks amazing? So I decided to mod the gun and fix all the things that annoyed me. Here's what my mods have done: +Mag is now preloadable (Has a ceiling) +Trigger guard is sturdy, and trigger is longer +Shorter front barrel (which increases range because of less barrel to bounce off of) +Symmetric, and has metallic 6th and 7th layers (Sorry for jacking your style BM but it looks better that way) +Pin is now much easier to grasp, and doesn't move left or right when pulled +Back sights are now very sturdy +Where the pin hits the gun is now reinforced so that no pieces are damaged when the gun fires So that's kinda an overview/review of the gun. Before the mods, it was like a 7/10. After, I would rate it at an 8.5/10. Props to Red for making such a great gun. More Mods/Review - Johnhall14's Tactical Shotgun v2

K'nex Gun Review - RBLTR V.1 (Red's Breach Loading Tactical Rifle)

Hello All This is a review on 'RBLTR V.1 (Red's Breach Loading Tactical Rifle)'. The RBLTR V.1 was published on the 1st of July 2013, and is considered by red himself to be his most powerful K'nex gun he has ever built. After building the gun and seeing the internals, it uses a pin pull mech and they look very similar to the G36C mech. There are many nice features to this gun that makes it original like the comfort bar and the sights. The gun shoots yellow rods to anyone wondering. STATS Range 10/10 - The range of the gun is rather high than an average gun. I managed to get 50ft accurately and around 80- 90 ft at an angle. It it described that the gun can reach ranges up to 70ft in the original description so I think 70ft is a fair judgement. As I managed to get 80ft plus,  I think the rating is 10/10. Appearance/ Looks 8/10 - The gun at first sight looks pretty hardcore although this does not really matter, I personally liked the comfort bar and the sights. The gun has a solid build so I think around a 8/10. Internals 8/10 - The internals within the gun are rather good, although I have had a few jams so I think 8/10. Broken Pieces 9/10 - The gun does not use any broken pieces however in some places the performance of the gun will exceed if broken pieces are used. That having been said I think a 9/10. Comfort 10/10 - I admire the gun mainly for its comfort of the handle. This helps to make the gun more accurate while aiming therefore a 10/10 without a doubt. Rate of Fire 6/10 - The ROF on this gun is quite good. When reloading this gun it did not take too long but their has been a lot more quicker and so I think a 6/10. Sturdiness/Durability 8/10 - The gun is put together well as I said earlier and I find it firm. When building this and adding the comfort bar is seemed that it was weak but as I added to it, it strengthened. Although the permanent fore-grip is rather weak in my opinion and could be stronger so I think a 8/10. Overall - 59/70 - This gun overall is awesome and I would recommend to build it! Also keep in mind that this is my ratings and opinions of the gun. Be sure to check out The Red Book of Westmarch's other guns. I hope you have enjoyed the review! Thank you! Hunter999

I am considering getting the rap4 bb pellet airgun it has semi and full auto removeable carry handle and can have many attachments. what is the best airsource for it (must fit in the stock)? can you take off the handguard and put on a full ris rail with rails on all four sides? how fast does it shoot? what upgrades can it take? what accesories should i put on it? is it better to get a red dot or reflex sight? what is the best kind off bb or pellet to use?

What Airsoft gun is better for a fun battle in the woods?

I'm going to be having several airsoft battles with my friends. About six people total, myself included. I narrowed down my choices down to a JG G36C with a vertical foregrip and red/green dot, or a JG AUG A3 with a red/green dot and vertical foregrip. I know the AUG is more accurate, but is it reliable? Which one should I choose?

Do you see what I see?

Here's a very cool illusion I have taken from this BBC article. First notice that the two desert scenes have exactly the same colour composition. The skies are both blue-ish and the deserts are both yellow-ish. Stare at the dot between the red and green squares for 60 seconds, and then look back at the dot between the two desert scenes. The more focused you are in staring at the dot between the green and red squares the better the subsequent illusion will be. The illusion was created by neuroscientist Beau Lotto (website here, with more illusions). (Are you colour blind?  Do you see any effect from this illusion?) I have a feeling that this effect could be used in some sort of cool Instructable, but I have no idea what...

MAC 10 Mechanism Concept

Hey guys. Well, currently, didexo and I are working on a MAC 10. Some of you may have seen his 'ible on the mech he was/is planing on using, so I took that and make something more efficient than his was. I need help on four aspects. 1) Sights. I would really like to see more efficient sights. Ones that look more correct, in other words. 2) A good trigger guard. I truly could not figure out what to do on this score. 3) A good way to make the handle curve. 4) A good way to make the barrel. I cannot figure this out...kinda weird actually. This prototype shoot at least 40 ft., and I am convinced that it could look and preform better with some help from you guys. So, lets here some suggestions... -The Red Book of Westmarch

K'NEX AAC Honey Badger .300 Blackout

Hey guys! Well, here I am with another K'NEX gun that I am not sure if I will finish or not. It is (as seen by the title) an AAC Honey Badger. It is not fully finished yet, and, like I said, I am not sure if I will finish it or not, but it is a start all the same. Maybe you guys can help point out some inconsistencies in my version of the pictures of the real Honey Badger that I provided...? I have no sights on the gun, BTW, and have yet do decide how to implement sights. Features: - Really bad telescoping stock - Comfortable grip - Tight magazine setup To be honest, I am not very enthusiastic as I thought I would be about this gun, as you can see by my list of features. Again, any help from you guys would be great! Enjoy! -The Red Book of Westmarch )

Should i remake my p90 and make it even better?

Well i was thinking about remaking my p90. i tried it before, and that version took a turn for the worst. if i remake it, it will have as much detail as the real one, and also have some attachments. also if you guys have any ideas to help me with it, just tell me, or you could make a part of the gun if i get stuck making it and i will add you as a collaborator on the instructable. if i get alot of people who want me to remake it, i will. (the picture below is the p90 im thinking of making, a rail would be better for attachments instead of having a red dot or iron sights only)

RMACR (Red's Mini Adaptive Combat Rifle) V.2

Apart from my Calico M-950 and my Magpul Masada ACR, the RMACR is my favorite build of all time. I sorta consider it my TR8 of magazine guns. As this is the case, I bring you the RMACR V.2. While it is not a huge change from the first version, it is still a great gun. Moreover, it may be generic to some people, but if a generic gun does its job, and does it well, what does it matter if it is generic. With ranges exceeding 50 ft., a 16 rd. magazine, a new (sturdy) stock, nice sights, this gun would excel in an indoor K'NEX war. Features: Looks great (IMO) Sturdy (except the pistol grip) New stock Really nice pin-pull-length 16 rd. magazine Relatively good rate-of-fire Really accurate Fun to shoot This gun can fire the ammo you see in pic #14 (which is THE best ammo, IMO), or it can fire white rods. It is very customizable, as you could change almost anything (except the mech) and it would still work great. Sadly, it does use broken pieces, and it's magazine is not "preloadable," but the gun is nice overall. I am posting this as a forum topic because I want to gauge interest in me posting a full set of instructions. -The Red Book of Westmarch

8x8 red and greed matrix - Can I get some help??

I have an 8x8 LED Matrix with red and green. I also have 74HC595, 4017 chips. This site seems to be a great place to get help and I'm in need. I don't have any electronic know how or anything like that. My daughter asked me to do this project and I don't want to let her down. I have an Arduino Atmega328 to control the matrix but I need some sort of code as well. I have figured out what pins control what on the Matrix and red and green share the power and have separate grounds.  The only stuff I have access to before Friday (that's when she leaves) is resistors and capacitors.  Can someone help me with the right resistors and capacitors as well as some code to drive the matrix?? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.  1588ASRG is the Matrix model number by the way. Thanks again.? http://www.china-led-products.com/LED-Dot-matrix-Display-1588ASRG-89.html This is the spec page for the Matrix.

K'NEX M249 SAW / FN Minimi

Hey guys! Well, this is my most recent project, the M249 SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon). While the body may look simple enough, I can tell you that this project is no laughing matter. It is sturdy (mostly) and has an amazing pin pull, but is not yet finished. I am not sure weather it will fire a round out of the magazine, and if it did, I am not quite sure if the round wont hit the front sight. It needs a magazine lock (the mag will fall out if you don't hold it in with your hand), the stock connection is not sturdy in any way, and the back sight needs some work. All the same, this is the first accurate looking M249 SAW on 'ibles, and I hope that I can get it "up (my) to standards." Features: Nice looking box magazine Comfortable Sturdy 16 round magazine (ish) Accurate looking (M249 / FN Minimi) Shoots a yellow rod about 20 - 30 ft. Bipod attaches nicely Bipod is strudy Stock looks boss (IMO) Tell me how you think I can improve the gun, I am always open to suggestions. Enjoy! -The Red Book of Westmarch

The word 'Instructable' is a typo

So if you've ever typed the word 'Instructable' into a field of text on this site, you know it has that dotted red line under it that indicates it's a typo. It's a small thing, yes, but it would add a modicum of dignity to the word if it was included into the spellcheck's dictionary. Just my two pixels - feel free to call me out for being nit-picky :)

K'NEX Magpul Masada ACR V.3

Hey guys! One of my favorite Instructables of all time would have to be my previous Magpul Masada ACR. I really just loved how it looked, how if felt, etc. So, after all this time (and after not a few request) I decided to rebuild it, and give it all the experience I now have (that I did not have back in January of 2013). This version (now version 3) has a bunch of new stuff, such as: - New stock (adapted from my gun Reliable) - New (better) mechanism - New flip-up sights - New lower receiver (adapted from my AAC Honey Badger)  Overall, it is a great improvement, and I can't wait to finish and post it. DarkOwlKnex Project Update One

For two years or so before I joined site, I've been building K'nex guns.  Here are my two recent weapons of plastic destruction. The Oodammo pistol I built (The D2OP) or (The Dark Owl's Oodammo Pistol's) most interesting feature is that the mag tilts and locks downwards due to friction. It also features: A no rubber banding required trigger. A high mag cap. A comfortable handle (at least for me). Iron sights. The above mentioned magazine. All it needs is a better ram rod; I didn't put much thought into it. Second on the agenda, we have a NAR reminiscent pistol.  it, instead of using the NAR transfer, uses my own custom DOT system (Dark Owl Transfer). Yeah, I just made that up now.  It sounds good and everything.  Wow!  Actually, this gun has a name now; it's the DOT Pistol.  Funny how this works.  Anyways, this transfer is unique not only in its design but in its removability.  When you pull down the lock as shown in the pictures, you can take the transfer right out, turning it into a regular single shot if you so chose.   It's other features are: Very good range (I haven't tested it, but it goes considerably far with one rubber band). Comfortable Handle (But not as comfortable as the D2OP's in my opinion). Removable hatch DOT system (explained above). Bullet Lock. Sadly, it has no sites, but from what I've heard, not everybody wants them, anyway. Both of these guns are now posted with instructions to all those that are interested: The D2OP: https://www.instructables.com/id/The-D2OP-Dark-Owls-Oodammo-Pistol/ The DOT Pistol: https://www.instructables.com/id/The-DOT-Pistol-Dark-Owls-Transfer-Pistol/

What knex gun should I build next?

I am trying to figure out which gun I want to build next. I have thought of 4 knex guns that have very promising designs in my opinion but don't have the time or parts to build all at once. Here is what I am wanting to build.  A Trench gun. Shell ejection, pump action and all. A f2000. Fully automatic, large mag with red dot sight. A hand held gatling with high bullet capitivity. ( Not a hand held gatling with a rod and a rubber band on each bullet holder thing like a bunch of tiny guns.) A folding mounted turret with VERY high bullet capitivity. None of these guns will need modified pieces that I can tell from my on paper plans. I would just like to see which of these everyone would be most excited to see. Don't be shy. Let me know what you think. Pics are in order of what I said them in.

K'NEX M14 / T44

Hey guys! Well, here is my most recent replica, the M14 (T44). It is, by far, one of my favorite rifle types, as is seen by that fact that it is my third attempt at this rifle type (M14/M21). This gun turned out better than I had expected... even though it was originally intended to be a M21. I am still working on the conversion process, but as it stand now, it is a M14/T44. With its 20 rd. magazine, sturdy body and stock, nice sight set, and improved stock, this thing is probably one of my best guns, when it comes to my replicas at least. Features: It looks just like a M14/T44 Good range: 40 - 70 ft. Magazine lock included Sturdy body and stock Large capacity magazine (if you use rods) 20 -30 Really comfortable Great pin-pull Can be easily modded into a M21, just slap a scope on it Enjoy, and tell me what you think. -The Red Book of Westmarch

Stepper Motors..

I recently pulled two stepper motors out of a working IBM dot-matrix printer. One larger, 3v one with 1.8 steps. The other is a smaller, 9.5v one with 7.8 steps. I am more interested in the large one right now. I managed to find out that the large one has center-tapped coils. I also found out that Coil 1 is red-white-brown, coil 2 is blue-black-yellow. I found the schematic below on http://ashishrd.blogspot.com/2007/09/computer-controlled-stepper-motor.htmlI was wondering how this could be adapted to control my motor from a PC program with the ULN2003 (that chip sounds like UT2003)? K'NEX ARX-160 in Progress

Hey guys! For about 3 years now, I have wanted to see a ARX-160 built out of K'NEX, but both BM2 and KnexBuild found the task a little harder than expected. So, finally, I have made a good looking ARX-160 out of K'NEX, and while it does need some work, it started off great! With a high-capacity magazine, great sights, a great, long, pin-pull, nice stock, and a over-all sturdy body, this K'NEX gun is starting out pretty great! I am to lazy to post more about it now, so give us a comment, a subscription, and suggestions as to what we could do better on the build or what other replicas we should build. Enjoy! -The Red Book of Westmarch

Laser square projector

I work in a manufacturing facility and we've got a lot of forklifts that are buzzing around everywhere all the time. there's an initiative to make it safer for forklifts to interact with pedestrians. one of the ideas someone had came from another facility where they have these blue spot lights on top of the truck that project a blue dot in front of and behind the truck. you see the blue dot and you know a truck is coming. there's some concern that this might get missed by a pedestrian. a thought came to me, being a nerd, that we could use something maybe a little easier to see. I looked in to some disco type laser displays that you can display custom graphics with, but there's concern about how sturdy they are or how long you'd actually be able to use one (whatever it is would basically have to be on almost 24/7). we've got several Motorola barcode scanners, and the long range models (mc 9190) have a feature where it projects a red square to show the area where the scanning will take place. it's a solid red square, not just a perimeter, that scales up with distance (it's like 4"x4" if you're within 2' and goes up to a pretty large size the farther out you're pointing it). These scan guns are way more expensive than this project calls for of course. Does anyone know of a source for JUST the imagers for these things? or could anyone suggest a way to replicate the effect...a big red square on the floor, with other equipment. needs to be able to run for a long time, hopefully could be powered by a 24-36v DC source, possibly motion detection (though not really necessary)

How do i thin out the wall of a PVC pipe?

Hi there everyone I am in a process of building a PVC bike trailer out of 40 mm PN 20 type of pipe. At the neck of the trailer where the cross-shaped yellow piece swivels horizontally - permitting the trailer turn left and right - , and just under it, where the lower red elbows swivel vertically - permitting the trailer to move up and down - are the two white pipes that i want to shave 1 or a bit more mm off of. I bought the materials but in a very interesting way the pipes don't fit inside the fittings. They need to be warmed up and then they fit inside one another getting stuck forever. No glue needed.  If i buy  the next largest fitting size - 50 mm - the gap is just too big. So it's a no go. That's why I ask you people: How do i shave off 1-2 mm of the white pipes in the picture so they slide in easily in the fittings? I want to point out that unfortunately I don't have access  to any heavy-duty machinery. So a manual way of doing this would be much appreciated.  P.S. the red dots on the picture are fixed points or dabs of glue if you like. The green dots mark out the movements of the components. For example the yellow cross is glued to the green pipes witch are glued to the red elbows witch in turn are glued to the other green pipes. Here only the yellow cross swivels on the vertical white pipe. :) I hope you got it :)

Semi Auto knex gun with detachable mag

This is a contest for a semi auto knex gun with detachable mag. A suggestion i'm making is try to make an AK47, AK74 or MP5. I think those would be the easiest designs to make a semi auto gun. Also those guns all have mags. This is a list of the rules for the contest 1. Must be Semi Auto 2. Must have detachable mag 3. Hopefully some type of sight 4. Ammo can't be grey rods or red rods 5. Can't use modified or broken pieces 6. All entries must be in by July 30th,2009 Contest starts Saturday, April 11, 2009

ECONIMIC LIGHT BULB HELP

I've started changing the light bulbs at home. I want to use economic ones like the one in the picture. The only problem that I have is that when I turn off the light , the bulb starts blinking. I have a power switch similar to the one in the picture. It has a little lamp behind the red dots that goes on when you turn out the light. It helps you find the switch in the dark. I heard from someone that the blinking is related to this lamp. Does anybody know how to fix this? without removing the little lamp in the switch

Where can I find a free Ebay sales map (similar to mystoremaps)? Pro Membership to the first good answer!

I recently decided to try out mystoremaps on Ebay.  It is pretty easy to use, but I don't like that the free version only includes a map of North America.  I have quite a bit of international sales, so I want something that shows all of them.  I would rather have something that can be updated easily too. Is there a free map tool that works in a similar fashion?  I really just want a map with a lot of red dots on it to mark where each sale has taken place.  I think mystoremaps has a pretty easy system set up for this task.  I just do not want to pay a monthly fee to show other continents. Here is one of my auctions so you can see what it looks like.  The map is at the bottom of the item description. Like I said in the title, the first good answer will get a code to upgrade to a Pro Member on Instructables.

Oodassault 4 Prototype

Well, here's my first attempt at making my V4. It's packed with features but unfortunately it isn't reliable yet so DON'T BUILD IT! I'm probably going to end up having to totally modify it to work so I wanted to get a picture before I ended up destroying it without hopes of getting it to work. Anywho, I don't care for block pistols but after giving it a shot, it's much easier to incorporate things like a pinlock this way. I'll start listing off the features because I don't want my entire picture to be comprised of yellow boxes. Starting at back working to the front: 1. Uses a new pin concept that I've been working with. There's a red connector connected to the pin, and then the yellows are connected as show to absorb the force. In theory, this should mean that because the force isn't transferred to the connection of the pin and the band holder, it shouldn't require any sort of other force suppressors to keep the pin in. However, it does make a loud clap so I'm probably going to try adding rubber bands around the connectors (but not around the pin) to quiet it. 2. I finally added a pin lock. I'm bleh on it though as it requires a broken orange in the barrel (I just have these pieces "naturally' so I figured most K'nexers would) and a band to ensure it works, but it works nonetheless and it adds almost no friction from the way it's on. 3. I stole KSC's idea for wheels. I'm not sure how much it'll help but I figured, eh, it doesn't hurt. 4. It uses the bullpup trigger idea from my PDR so that I can have a more compact weapon with good power. 5. The handle is from my new UMP and was added to give a more comfortable angle. It also is three layers with no white rods needed. It's decent as far as comfort goes. 6. Finally, it has a tilting mag that's right in front of the handle, so it's easy to access. The problem is I need to make a better pusher and figure out a lock for the new pusher. I think the barrel is part of it because I went back to the old blue rod style. The gun isn't reliable at all. 7. Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention that I'm experimenting with adjustable sights. I didn't make adjustable sights for this gun, per se, but rather I added multiple folding sights that are at the same height, taller than the front sight. This means that the closer the rear sight you use, the more of an angle the gun has. I doubt this'll be useful at all but there was room so I just threw them in there much like the wheels. And that's that. The feel of the weapon is pretty nice. It's balanced. But yeah, that's all I've got to say.
