room thermostat

First things first notice: Iam in Europe so it's probably a bit different than in USA. I have electric radiator in my room. i bought thermo switch but i don't know how to connect it between the socket and the radiator. I must mention that the radiator had already same thermo switch before but it broke down after 5 years and I didn't write notes how it was connected. I already blown 4 fuses during the attempt. The wire has three wires: blue ("live"), brown and yellow/ green ("earth"). In the switch there's sheme sticker -> www.shrani.si/f/C/Nr/42sKtVVC/thermo.png . so how do i connect the plug and the radiator??  www.imit.it/dati/schedaArticolo.php

ROOM : SMART

Ok I was sitting at the end of my bed listening to my music (I plugged my psp into my stereo) and I had an idea make my room smart. For example door opens light comes on. I could even make it a security thing. But also I have about six things in different places in my room and they all need to plug into so maybe would make a little switch box/control unit. So I was wondering if you could make your room smart what would you want it to do ?hmm maybe i could make my MICROFROSTEY (mini fridge. (soon to make an instructable on it)) somehow work with this....AND YES I REALIZE A SMART CAR HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MY ROOM ! ( I just googled SMART and thats what I got)

Painting My Room

Well my mom decided that she would give me permission to paint my room how I wanted. I had an idea of like... a silhouette of a NYC skyline (or any skyline) in black around the walls that goes about 3 or 4 feet up. Then above that would be like... a bluish color. Then in the top corner above my bed, a Orange circle sun were the vertex of the ceiling and 2 walls would be the center of the circle. So first I need to find a silhouette, preferribly just black buildings, kinda like this, but less complicated. Something easily taped off.link to pictureAlso, I want you suggestions on the paint colors. I'm pretty set on black for the buildings but I'm not sure about the sky/sun.Comments/Suggestions/Concerns/Help

Knex Chat Room

Hey I think someone started something like this already but I don't know what happened to it or if it is still active so I started my own. It's located Here or there or how about right here?So yeah come here for a quick chat. It will probably be easier than spamming topics with a useless conversation like the ones you could have in the chat. When you get there and you haven't joined Xat yet then click on your name to change it and your avatar. I'm most likely going to need at least 2-3 (depending on how many actually do come regularly) mods. There are a few rules and if you don't follow then then you will be first kicked as a warning and then banned for a day. If you still continue to break rules you'll be perma. banned from the chat.~Rules~-You may curse but only lightly and not at others. It has to stop when/if there is someone who requests it for the duration that they are there.-No fighting. You must respect everyone. If you disrespect an owner or a mod then you will automatically skip from getting a kick to getting banned for the day.-You may talk about other things but I do request you do stay relatively on topic for the most part.-Please remain in the chat while you are online. It helps me and the main reason people who aren't on a chat room are because no one else is. It starts a chain reaction of inactivity.Alright have fun you guys. I like talking to all of you personally so this will sure be fun for me to meet more of my fellow knexers.

selective room heating?

I just turned on the heat before going into my room to go to bed. My roommate and I are in about one fourth of the whole house (and will be for about six hours), yet every room is being heated. This seems like a huge efficiency problem. Are there commercial systems out there that can heat selective rooms? If not, are there ways of making such a system? Can I just tape cardboard over the vents?

Room heat transfer?

Greetings all, I live in a solar powered house which is heated by a single log burning stove which is situated in the main living area. Is it possible for me to transfer heat to the colder rooms by simply putting ducting between the top sections of the adjoining walls (seeing that hot air travels to cold areas - in theory!) or will I have to use a fan? I am trying to use as little power as possible or ideally non at all. Has anyone got any experience of this or know of any suitable solutions? Many thanks in advance.

A Disturbing Store Room

We've just returned from staying with friends in Geneva, where we slept in their (large and airy) basement. Next to the bedroom was the room our friends used as a store room - their nuclear bunker! When their house was built, it was a legal requirement for all homes to have a nuclear bunker.  A stocked, functioning nuclear bunker. The door is steel, filled with concrete.  It doesn't have a lock - that huge yellow bolt and spanner hold the door shut against invaders.  The door on the wall is an escape hatch, in case the house collapses on the main door, and the machinery in the corner is the air filter. The shelves double as beds, and the toilet is a bucket with a lid. I found it fascinating, and, to be honest, disturbing.  It took me two days to "get around" to going through and taking these photos. I grew up during the tense days of US/Soviet nuclear proliferation, when Threads wasn't just a disturbing drama, it was almost a government information film.  I paid attention at school - I knew what nuclear weapons really did.  To most kids, they were a cool way of destroying a bunch of stuff (even more so today).  To me, they were (and are) flatly horrifying, and the stuff of genuine nightmares. I look forward to when things like reduced to the kind of novel feature that ranks alongside "original fireplace" or sash windows.

I need to put up 3 Rgb led light strips around my room, How would i go and do that?

I need to power 3 Rgb led light strips that would be all controlled and powered on one controller. These Rgb lights strips are here. What would i need to go and buy a right power supply and controller for a length of 49.2Ft or 15M>? I drew up a sketchup of what the room looks like. I was thinking of using the power supply in a parallel and have it split two of them off at the top right of the doorway so i can put the power supply in the closet. but i need to figure out if it maybe possible to have both of the parallel connect to the 3rd one at each ends and power it without voltage drop?

Awesome Uses For An Empty Room

I currently have a 2 bedroom apartment, in which the second room has zero use... I only got it because it was like 30 dollars more expensive than the 1 bedroom, that being said, I want to use my second bedroom for something and don't know what. I was thinking a project room... but I think I want something more creative then that. I am already thinking of removing the doorand replacing it with a secret mirror door so it becomes a "hidden room"... in this hidden room I was thinking of having a HAM Radio operation, with some other stuff... but honestly I just don't know what I want to do with it. If you had a spare room "collecting dust" what would you do with it? I finally don't have my mom telling me "you can't do that, thats silly" or anything like that... so wild ideas are acceptable! PS: I was just thinking, keep in mind this is an apartment, so I can't nail, drill, or do anything to my walls... and my noise level has to be somewhat low... Otherwise it would be a recording studio.

Multi-Room Audio System?

I have an idea for a multi-room audio system but am very much stuck with the know how. I have recently found Airfoil which allows you to transmit an audio stream over LAN to other devices, what I would like to do is have audio playing in other rooms through Airfoil Speakers but to do it cheaply, I know that I could just use other PCs and laptops to do it but it is not something I have right now, I do have two very old laptops (circa windows 3.1 & 95) but they lack in .... functionallity. I was thinking of some stripped down computer which could be hooked up to existing amps. What exactly would I need? What are your thoughts, or alternatives?

A/C a room with Peltier units.? Answered

Would building an array of peltier units in a windows frame work to cool down a room? This way hot air would stay outside and the inside "windows" would be cold. Either using heatsink and multiples computer fans to throw air in room or pumping water in pipes then on the units then to a big fan. Also, could this run on solar cells placed on the outside?

"Sunken living room" (joists?)

I am wanting to build a "sunken living room/conversation pit" in my (newly made to be) open floor plan living room, dining room, kitchen. From what I have read. These concepts are primarily built in with new construction or in houses with crawl spaces. I, have a full basement. As for the loss of head space in basement. That is fine. I plan on using that area (walled in) as a seasonal storage cloest. (Holiday decor, seasonal clothing) Just curious as to what would be needed other than a support frame for current and unaltered joists and the new "sunken joists"

Making a 12v room lamp.

We have a quite a few 6v batteries here at work that we get rid of once their voltage drops below what our equipment is able to use.  Normally we recycle them but I was trying to see if there is a better way to get some use out of them on my own.  Ultimately, I'd like to try and eliminate the need for the plug in lamp I use to light my bedroom. I'm far from an electrical genius but I found some low wattage LED bulbs that looked like they might be usable.  What I was basically thinking of doing was hooking few of the old batteries together, regulating the output to 12v, and then wire up one of the low wattage bulbs.  I also have access to solar panels used to charge the same batteries so getting that added in to the mix would be my next step.
