Glueing Rubber

I'm trying to make a long inflatable rubber tube buy cutting a bike inner tube and then resealing the ends. I'm doing a bit of a trial run with all the suitable materials I have knocking about but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I need it so I can inflate the tube with little or no leakage (not to any great pressure) and I would like it to remain at least semi flexible so that means I cant just pack the last 2 inches with hot glue. Any suggestions? I plan to try poly-cement, epoxy, hot glue, super glue and melting the ends together but I'm sure someone has had some experience at this.

Some questions about rubber

I was wondering what kinds of paints work the best on rubber. I'm talking about heavy-duty, solid rubber. I'd like to age an object made of this without hurting it and I was just curious as to the best way to go about doing it. Also, what type of glue would work best with it.

Rubber "sand" What to do with it?

They market the stuff for installing around playground equipment. It's shredded tires. I got a load free. I plan to use some for backfill in a spot which was very rough to dig out. But I'll have leftovers. Can I vulcanize it into solid rubber? How?  Mix with concrete to make it lightweight? Or will thermal changes cause rubber to expand /contract too much?   What else could be done w/ it?

Swapping Rubber-Membrane for Microswitches?

Is it possible to convert a button from using a rubber contact to using a microswitch? The intent I have in mind is to take the buttons on a GBA and make them more like those on the SP/DSi/3DS, but the idea could be applied to any instance of squishy rubber-contacts.My best guess of how to go about this would be to trace the positive and negative leads into the switch on the circuitboard, then to somehow break that connection and reroute them into the microswitch by soldering wires to them. I need to go double-check the leads are available on the particular board I'm working with, and I wanted to test the general theory using a cheaper board like a TV remote.Any thoughts?

How to harden a 'rubber bone'? Answered

A few weeks ago I was digging a new garden and I uncovered an old beef rib bone buried next to a rusty tin can. I presume one of my dogs put them there several years ago. The bone had developed a nice patina, infused with a reddish-brown color, most likely from the rusty can. It would work perfectly as scales (handles) for an old hunting knife of mine if I could flatten it out somewhat.  Remembering an old trick from my youth, I have been soaking it in white vinegar and it has softened nicely without losing the patina. From my past experience I know it will re-harden if I allow it to dry out, but it will be more porous and brittle. My thought was to dry it then coat it liberally with super glue or to soak it in a clear acrylic paint for several days to fill the pores. I am looking for any ideas or suggestions that will help me in this project, whether they be ways to make my ideas better or something entirely different. Thanks.

how to make a rubber part that doesnt exist ?

Hi good peoples, i work at a place that makes and sells beef jerky and smokies. quite recenty one of the machines we use to cut them from links quit working properly and needs a new rubber pad for the clutch that stops the blade. the problem is the company we bought the machines and all parts for them it died with the owner so we cant replace them. my question is how hard would it be to mold rubber into a new brake pad for the clutch. i will put up pictures of the clutch and pad as soon as i can but i might as well start with the first problem how to cast and mold a rubber sturdy enough to do the job. all info on this would be greatly appreciated side note: now that i have the parts this is what they look like. two very soft rubber wheels with a concave treaded surface. the rubber tread is really worn down hence the need for replacement

What is the best way to cut a rubber (non-steel-belted) tire? Answered

I need a method of cutting a non-belted rubber tire (I'm attempting to sole shoes) that will (a) allow for an angular design, and (b), leave relatively clean edges. The best idea I've gotten was to use a hacksaw with water in the cuts for lubrication, but the results are too ragged and uneven. Any good ideas would be appreciated!

Licensing

Any thoughts about the licensing? I think I chose the wrong one for the rubber band gun I posted. I just noticed that the license I picked says that you can't use this Instructable commercially. I would prefer that people be able to make and sell the rubber band gun if they wish. Also, I am not concerned if someone does not attribute the design to me. It would be nice but not necessary. I did not make the design to receive accolades.

how do I paint on rubber?

I found this adorable rubber dragon in the bargain bin of my local toystore and would like to paint it to give it a costumized look. Unfortunately the toy is made from a material i'm not to familiar with. it's very stretch and it seems to me like it is made from supple rubber. It's sort of reminds me of a dog toy. so now I'm trying to find out what type of paint I can and can't use as I don't want it to start flaking. I'don't mind if the toy becomes stiff. I'd will be more of a display item anyway. Could I use spray paint? should I prime it? should i strip the current paint, and which solvent would be best that wouldn' destroy the toy. Any help will be very much appreciated.
