Sensors

I would like to know if anyone here at this site has created or seen or heard of using sensors inside or outside the house to warn you of intruders? If you have any information/site/idea on how to go a bouts using sensors in that manner please let me know. Only serious responses welcomed. I am not trying to be funny/sarcastic/ignorant etc , just had this idea that someone somewhere has done this project before. Thanks. AL.

Sensor Question Answered

This is a hypothetical electrical circuit question, I'll try to clarify as best as possible. If you had a circuit hooked up to a light bulb, but controlling a the light bulb were two sensors wired into the circuit. One sensor turned the bulb on when there was no light, and the other turned it off when there was light. I'm not sure if that would be all one sensor, but garden lights work somewhat like that. Anyway, what if the sensors were mounted directly in front of the light bulb, facing it, so they worked based on its light. What would happen when you turned it on? Would it act like a strobe light or just explode, and would the effect be different with LED's? Also, would you need to put some other mechanism in to slow the sensor's signals?

sensor design

Any one please help!!!!! i am student of VIT university INDIA i am working on a project with ISRO (Indian space research organisation). we are inserting our payload which consists of 7 sensors. our sensors working temp is 273 kelvin but these sensors will be exposed to the outer atmosphere at an altitude of 80 km above earth surface where the temp is 197 kelvin [ our sensors will be placed inside, outer air will be sucked inside ]. at this temp our sensors wont work so we have to come up with a strategy which heats the incoming air in to the rocket to 273 kelvin, so please help us in designing the sensor so if you have any mechanism for heating the air please inform me. my email is     kapilkoundi@gmail.com

Speed sensor

I have a 60 tooth ferromagnetic ring gear with a speed sensor attached. Each passing of a tooth creates a pulse in the sensor sending a signal to the ecu for calculation of attained rpms. It calculates the interval between the teeth to obtain the rpms, thus determining when to kick in the rev limiter on my 06 polaris ranger XP 4x4. Is it possible or even practical to eliminate every other tooth to "fool" the sensor into a lower rpm reading, and creating higher rpm levels within the motor?

sensors and servos

I am working on a piece where I need to hook up 7 servo motors to the arduino (each rotating at a different speed, some in one direction, others in the other) but basically an on/off with a motion sensor. I am using a full rotation servo. I amusing an infrared sensor but the servo is still moving (awkwardly and jerky) when not sensing motion, but then runs as normal. Here is the code I am using (right now, I am only at 1 servo – trying to get the sensor right first) : #include Servo myservo;int potPin = 0; //analog pin used to connect the sensor int ledPin = 9; //select pin for the servoint val = 0; //variable to read the value from the analog pin void setup(){   myservo.attach(9); //set up the servo as usual pinMode(ledPin, OUTPUT); //variable to store the value coming from the sensor   Serial.begin(9600); //for watching the speeds in the serial monitor} void loop() { val = analogRead(potPin); // read the value from the sensor   val = map(val,0,600,0,255); if (val>80) digitalWrite(ledPin, HIGH); //turn the ledPin on    else if (val<80) digitalWrite(ledPin, LOW); //turn the LedPin off   Serial.println(val); delay(10); } – any suggestions?

sensors microcontrollers

Hiya guys is there anyone that can guide me to finding an instructable that deals with interaction in remote places using a micro-controller. For instance people in 2 different locations in the world, want to engage or enhance social bond or interaction by using a motion or proximity sensor and internet of things for instance triggering a sound or an led light that can be sensed in a remote location. So one location motion is detected and the other location this detection can also be seen, if that makes sense? For instance similar to this kind of project  http://goodnightlamp.com/ Could this be done? Thanks

Hidden Proximity Sensor

Hey guys, I am trying to find a method of creating a hidden proximity sensor that would work similarly to a laser i.e. if the line of sight is broken then an output can be achieved, but without actually using lasers. There are a few problems, the sensor will be in a dark space and will have some smoke blown through the line of sight (lasers would be seen). I want the sensors to be hidden, so they will have to be mounted out of sight, but as they will be used in a relatively open space, i imagine this will mean on the ceiling. This will mean that they will have to detect all the way to the floor, so the range will probably have to be at least 8 feet. Does anybody have any ideas? i'd really appreciate any input. Neal

Selection of presence sensor

Hi guys. For one of my university projects I need to detect the presence of a person in the shower. In order to do that what I have in mind is use a proximity sensor. If the target is in a distance range (let's say 20 to 50 cm) It will assume that the person is in the shower when the distance measure is no longer in this range then it will mean that the person left the shower. I need to detect all the time of the person in the shower (meaning when he/she gets in and then out). I have read a lot of info and forums to properly choose the type of sensor. However I still don't have a clear answer. About the Ultrasonic proximity sensors I know that they are cheap and more accurate by it can be affected by Temperature, humidity and some ambient noise, all of them which happen in a shower. The other option an Infrared one gets affected by lightning conditions and the surface of the target. The last option I checked is a PIR sensor I know it senses Temperature of the target, but I don't know if it will be affected by the running hot water and also is more expensive. In general, I don't know how the running hot water will affect the detection of the person in shower. Also,so again I don't know how this will work. Sorry for the huge amount of  questions, I am a little bit confuse with all the factors to have in mind. I am hoping someone out there can help a lost newbie like me and give me a suggestion. Thanks a lot :)

Sensor Help with Arduino

Hi all! I need help with trying to figure out datasheets. I was digging through my electronics when I found and LM35 sensor. So I looked up the datasheet but I couldn't find out how to convert the analog output to a temperature. I found an i'ble on how to do it but I want to know how to find that information in the datasheet so that next time I get something I'll be able to do it myself. I looked at all the curves and none of them seemed to be temperature vs. voltage. I also looked through the whole first part and couldn't find the multiplier. Also does that multiplier change with the amount of voltage you supply the LM35 with? Say I use 5 volts. Will it give a different reading over 4.5 volts? There's so much technical and complicated data that I don't know what to look for. Here is the link to the datasheet http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/lm35.pdf Thanks!

Hall sensor question

Hey all.I want to be able to measure the current draw through an AC wire in a confined space. I'm thinking hall sensors would be ideal for this due to small size and less chance of frying things (as opposed to a split-core transformer).Unfortunately all of the hall current sensor projects I've found here on instructables are for the pre-made ACS712 board. This is a no-go for me because of size, the need for cutting the wire to make the connection, and also cost is a factor too.Are there other options? I see a lot of three-wire sensors in through-hole transistor packages out there which would be ideal, but can you get the sensor voltage out of any of these, or is it strictly on/off?Any hints welcome.
