watching this again inspired me to try and make my own, but can't find too much online in the way of ideas how to do it. any of you have any ideas how I could construct one? in the video he mentions it being co2 powered and the base is a faux sunflower. I was thinking about trying to start with a base from a cheap 20$ paintball gun. does anyone have any tips/hints before I get started on this? it was also suggested to buy one of these: http://images.halloweencostumes.com/squirting-sunflower.jpg and put flour in that, reloading could get tedious though.

No one else was hurt. The shooting began near a fountain in front of the UT Tower — the site of one of the nation's deadliest shooting rampages more than four decades ago, when a gunman ascended the clock tower and fired down on dozens of people. Within hours of Tuesday's gunfire, the school issued an all-clear notice, but the university remained closed, and the area around the library was still considered a crime scene. "Our campus is safe," school President Bill Powers said. Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo expected the school to be "completely open and back to normal" by Wednesday morning. Authorities identified the gunman as 19-year-old Colton Tooley, a sophomore math major. His parents did not immediately respond to a message left by The Associated Press. The 50,000-student university had been on lockdown while officers with bomb-sniffing dogs carried out a building-by-building manhunt. After the gunfire, authorities searched for a possible second shooter, but they eventually concluded the gunman acted alone. Confusion about the number of suspects arose because shots were fired in multiple locations, and officers received varying descriptions from witnesses, campus police Chief Robert Dahlstrom said. Before reaching the library, the gunman apparently walked for several blocks wearing a mask and dark clothing and carrying an automatic weapon, witnesses said. Construction worker Ruben Cordoba said he was installing a fence on the roof of a three-story building near the library when he looked down and made eye contact with the suspect. "I saw in his eyes he didn't care," Cordoba said. The gunman continued down the street, firing three shots toward a campus church, then changed direction and fired three more times into the air, Cordoba said. A garbage truck driver leaped out of his vehicle and ran away, as did a woman carrying two babies, the construction worker said. "I'm not scared, but I was scared for the people around me," Cordoba said. Randall Wilhite, an adjunct law professor, said he was driving to class when he saw "students start scrambling behind wastebaskets, trees and monuments," and then a young man carrying an assault rifle sprinting along the street. "He was running right in front of me ... and he shot what I thought were three more shots ... not at me. In my direction, but not at me," Wilhite said. The professor said the gunman had the opportunity to shoot several people, but he did not. Police said it was unclear whether the gunman was targeting anyone with the AK-47. Oscar Trevino, whose daughter works on campus, said she told him she was walking to work near the library when she heard two shots behind her. She started to run and fell down. She said she later heard another shot. "She's freaking out. I'm trying to calm her down. I've just been telling her I love her and relax, everything's fine," Trevino said. Acevedo said officers were able to track the gunman's movements with the help of students who "kept pointing in the right direction." The police chief said he believes the gunman ran into the library as officers closed in on him, then shot himself in the head on the sixth floor. Police did not fire any shots, Acevedo said. Powers credited the school's crisis-management plan and social networking for quickly warning students, faculty and staff. The university's text messaging system reaches more than 43,000 people, he said. Laura Leskoven, a graduate student from Waco, said she was in a media management class when she received a text message from the university saying there was an armed person near the library. For the next 3 1/2 hours, Leskoven and about 30 of her classmates sat in a locked conference room trying to keep tab on events through Twitter, blogs and text messages. "We were kind of shocked," Leskoven said. "Our professor said, 'Well, we need to get upstairs' because we were on the first floor of the building." Student Joshua Barajas said he usually is in the library in the mornings but was delayed Tuesday when he made a rare stop for coffee. "These little mundane decisions could save your life. If I hadn't stopped for coffee — and I never stop for coffee because it's $4 — I could have been in that building," Barajas said. "It's creepy. I don't even want to think about it." On Aug. 1, 1966, Charles Whitman went to the 28th floor observation deck at the UT clock tower in the middle of campus and began shooting at people below. He killed 16 people and wounded nearly three dozen before police killed him about 90 minutes after the siege began. ___ Associated Press writers April Castro and Jim Vertuno in Austin, Ramit Plushnick-Masti in Houston, and Diana Heidgerd in Dallas contributed to this report.

I used to be on instructables a lot building knex guns but i don't have as much time as i used to. I ask this question about every year just wondering if any thing new has come up over the course of the year, and i like to buld at leat one or two guns a year now. I always like building guns that shoot great distances, as of now what is the farthest shooting knex gun with instructions on instrucables. Parts aren't a issue since i have well over 10,000 knexs, and i have made over 50 knex guns, including all of i_am_canadians cannons at least once including his heavy cannon three times, Killerk's sr-v1 four times, and the sr-v2 four times.

Want some art nice and big on a wall and don't want to break out a ladder? The Facadeprinter in Germany is something that can help. It's a computer-controlled paintball gun that can make paintings 8m tall and 10m wide. The computer takes into account the shape of the target so there's no distortion in the final piece. Check out the video to see it in action. Facadeprinter via Wooster Collective facadeprinter.org - three stones from Facadeprinter on Vimeo.

Hello! I'm JonnyBGood and this is my future knex project/challenge. I work at Familly Dollar now and I use one of these price guns sometimes to put anti-theft stickers on mechandice. They are very comfortable to hold and are easy to use so I thought maybe I can use the format to create a k;nex gun. I am working through another project right now but I will work on this project when I am done. I just thought it would be fun to share my idea and see what other people think of it. Please make suggestions if you have any and if you have time feel free to try to make one yourself!

I have only begun to use Arduino in the last few months, and my skill set is still somewhat lacking. I can easily build the circuit that I need, however programing is still difficult at this point. Especially trying to write my own program from scratch. I am looking for help to make a Competitive Shooting Timer for IDPA competitions(international defensive pistol association). In my head it should use a piezo speaker as a microphone on a digital input, have a couple LED's for currently working and ready status, an LCD screen that shows the time lapsed since the first shot occurred to the hundredths of a second, and a push-button to stop the timer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Idea is to slightly modify the annoy a tron circuit to turn on a laser pointer at a specific time interval, then back off... Then i would put this into my lego mindstorms robotic thingy that will point the laser to random points on the walllink to annoy a tron: https://www.instructables.com/id/Homemade_Annoy_a_thing_Annoy_a_tron/thats all great and a work in progress, really just background inforeal question, just askin, is what technologies are there that would allow a microcontroller to "sense" where the laser is pointing and then to link that info to an sensor that would find where the bb bullet hits? Then just give me a percentage of how far off i was from the dot, maybe in the form of an LED bargraph display like this one: http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prodinfo.asp?number=G8942this isnt something i expect to do, but i want to do something with 555s and this looks like a pretty cool ideato clarify, on the top part, the laser and lego mindstorms are 2 separate systems, one is simply mounted on the other, but by using the same timings it is possible to make them work synchronously... its a work in progress, stay tuned if interested

To craft a gadget that shoots mosquitoes with laser, there is the need to know the enemy's vulnerability. The most needed is the mosquito vulnerability to laser shooting. What wattage of laser is sufficient? The configuration I think is, attracting mosquitoes with some infrared light (or, multivibrator), then shooting with laser. I might shoot with a continuous laser (after infrared path is broken, surely), but zip-zip-zip sort of (threshold activated shooting) is sensible, too.I stated this previously @ yahoo answers, but no (serious) answer wa there.See the question there, http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090505022002AAnd31eFor a full, energy-harvesting mosquito-shooting gadget, a previous question might be related, too. That next question is about the malaria map (for energy harvesting, where necessary). http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090405004614AAsBwtL

I've received the request to build a theatrical prop that should be able to shoot a diluted tempera paint 30- 50' from the gun. Any suggestions for where to begin looking for a pump capable of that kind of pressure or velocity to shoot a relatively narrow stream great distances? I don't think water pumps would be able to handle the extra viscosity of the diluted paint. This would not be aimed at anyone, but over a dance crowd. Amazingly, people pay money for this experience. Anyone know what the guy with this green paint is using? Looks like a miniature fire hose. Many thanks for any suggestions! Instructables members are a talented and diverse bunch! Everyone's answers have been very helpful. Through your suggestions and additional research we have determined that portable fire fighting pumps are the simplest method for moving a diluted paint solution great distances. The suggestions for using pressurized bursts of paint have also been helpful. Thanks everyone!

How does the explosive in the round move the bullet? Is it just a quick bang and the shockwave gives the bullet a quick "kick", letting its momentum carry it down the barrel? or do the expanding gases continue to push it down the barrel? If it is the latter, doesn't there need to be a (reasonably) airtight seal between the chamber and barrel to stop the gases just escaping out the sides?

I'm looking for a laser that is button activated and a sensor that reacts to the laser. Basicly I want to put the laser in the barrel of a broken bb gun and make the button so that when you pull the trigger the laser goes off. Then I want to make a circle with the sensor in the center and when you hit it with the laser you hear a sound. Now I am wondering where I can get a laser and a sensor that responds to it. the laser can be visible or invisible I don't really care. Also does the sensor respond to any laserbeam or is this specific? Thanks in advance, Michel
