Help me spend my money
I got $75 in Lowes gift cards and am having trouble spending it. What tools/materials should I buy to get the most bang for my buck? There are so many things I want I just cannot decide.

So what with all the fuss about paying less than $2 a month for pro, it really is a fair question - what's something else you spend less than two dollars on? What incidentals (coffee, music, gum, those purple fuzzy socks...) do you drop $2 or more on every month? Every week? Every day? I know people who spend more than $1.95 on their morning coffee.

Military Spending by Andrew Cooke is a neat quick project he created that presents the amount each country spends on their military in a nice globe. The idea is neat, but what's even better is the fact that he has all the source code and instructions on how to make something like this. If you're interested in data visualization, I suggest checking this out:Military Spending Data Visualization Example

I have a Dell Latitude LM that I like for word processing because of the responsive almost full sized keyboard. BUT I need it to have a USB port. I got a PC card to USB port adapter, but doesn't work because I'm not so bright. Any ideas on getting USB through the diskette drive or CD-ROM? Or is this stupid?

I was just wondering how many hours of your day youspend on instructables. I know I spend 6 hours of my day on instructables, and if I find a good instructable, that leads me to more great instructables which can lead me up to 7 or 8 hours a day.

I found a nice desk that fits perfectly in the small space I have for it, yet it's big enough for my multiple monitors. The problem is that the veneer (a plasticky thin top) has a horrible color and it's also stained. So I want to change the desktop color (to white) by using some sort of contact or adhesive paper, but I went to Home Depot and Lowes, and they only have that thin kitchen contact paper, which is very prone to scratches. Is there something I can use to put on top of my desktop to change the color, but resistant enough to use it without any protection. I don't want to spend too much money and I don't have the room to actually change the veneer. Any suggestions?

I need a VERY powerful battery (4000mah 12V or higher) and don't want to spend more then $30 please help! and i don't want i Puerkerts number lower than 1.2. can anyone help? oh, and the size of it has to fit in a 6V lantern. thats why lead acids bit the dust and (so far what i know) lithium polymer batteries bit the dust because they are way to expensive. with a 35W power consumption, its hard to find a power source that will fit in a 6V lantern, a affordable price (under $30) and powerful enough to power the load for more than an hour. (some calculations i did show i need at least 3500mah for 1 hour of usage ) but i think i might have a solution a 2 laptop batteries from amazon wired in parallel after they have been took apart. a drill battery doesn't even come close to the amount of i need and they suffer from memory effect and just plain out isn't near powerful enough (1.5 AH per cell) OR my second choice is to get many rechargeable AAA batteries and wire them to give 14.4V (BUT HOW DO I SOLDER THEM WITHOUT THE TABS? and what kind of array should i use? [68 AAA])

In Science next term, we've been told that we'll need to build a robotic gripper. All it has to do is pick up a cup. I've been having a look around, and the balloon idea isn't practical because if the cup was full it wouldn't work. And I'm okay with spending a little money, but I'd rather not spend $100 or anything on a kit. So what's a good idea for me?

I am growing tired of spending large amounts of money on few quantities of components. Are there any [trusted] sources to buy in bulk (for cheaper) from? I'd be more then happy to buy 1,000 LEDs for $20. That's fine with me. I'm currently spending about $2.00 on just 10 LEDs. Anything is an improvement. I'm trying to stay away from auction websites like eBay. Any suggestions are useful! Thanks!

We finally have to finish a deck rail - I need an inexpensive idea for balusters or something that won't completely obstruct my view. I don't like the 2x2's, or lattice. I do like the look of aluminum/metal in plain black - either square or flat - but hate the thought of spending $250 just for the balusters. I love the look of balcony panels - but getting a plasma cut piece of metal for each section is way way more than I want to spend. I'm looking for the dirt cheap alternative.
