Hey, I've got the ginormus sub woofer thats crazily loud. But the computer doesn't make much use of it, it will only work if the bass is super deep. When i plug it into my ipod it works normally. Any help to make it work better for my computer because it was originally made for my computer?

I want a kick ass area in my house for a subwoofer. like to hook up to a computer or mp3 player. is there a way to hook up a subwoofer to a laptop?

Guys the question sounds like stupid but the thing is how should i know a subwoofer reached it's max excursion limit before blowing the coil.If it starts to distort does it means it reached it's limit or the amplifier can't provide much juice the speaker needs.

Hello, I thing this is the right /r/ to ask this. I have a HTiB and I want to make 2 led strips with ~6 meters blink with bass. I have done some tests with my old subwoofer (logitech z5500) and I noticed that as the bass goes deeper, I got distorsions... I have read that we can use an amp to store energy (? :S) but it could start a fire due the heat. Can someone help me? Obviously I can use the leds directly conected to the subwoofer and dont turn the subwoofer volume to high and everything will be ok, but I really want to make something cool and safe. The HTiB this an Onkyo HT-S9700THX, and the subwoofer is powered directly to current, the amp just pass signals. I thing this is called a pre-amp subwoofer, correct if Im wrong please. I have a stereo system that has a left and right speaker that connects to the main part of the stereo (CD player and the radio). I was wondering if I could disconnect the speakers, from the CD player itself, and make a circuit that amplifies a low sound bass, then connected to a small subwoofer.  (Instead of a normal amplifier that just makes treble sound louder.) Then reconnect the two speakers so the final result is that there is an amplified subwoofer.

I have received a 4 ohm subwoofer, that seems to be "stuck" , I don't know how I could fix this. I also need a way to test the subwoofer because I do not have an amp. Thanks

So i purchased a pair of 800w 10" subs at a yard sale for 20$.  They were cheap so i assumed they were faulty but figured i could try fixing them. So i get them home, hook them up to an amp and nothing happens... until i place a little pressure on the cone and  thump thump thump, they work... and they're heavier and hit better than a pair of 1200w 10" Sony Xplodes i have... until i let go of the cone.  I'm reading things about blown voice coils and what/not and was hoping someone had an idea how to replace one. Or if my problem sounds like something else all together.  Any ideas DIY'ers???

4 Ω x 2ok i have a  JBL amplifier    and a pair of pioneer dual coil subwoofer with impedence 4 Ω x 2  ( http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/Subwoofers/Champion+Series+PRO/TS-W3002D2|D4 ) i'm not sure if it will work just fine if i connect the 2 subs to the amp at 2ohms each, because i wired it to make a 8ohm impedence on each sub and works just fini!!! but  i'm not satisfied with the output power will it work fine if i connect both subs at 2ohms impedance(set the coils in parallel on each sub) on each sub to the amplifier???? don't worry about the power delivery, i have a 2X10farad capacitors, and a 55AH battery installed in the car

Hi, today what I'm trying to ask is how could i get a car amplifier working in a household environment (i know how to get the PSU going and that side of stuff) My question is what sort of box will I need for the sub woofer and how will I wire it up will i need a crossover if so can you guide me of what to buy anything I should know before I attempt this will this work or am I just atempting something that will end up in a mess?

I'm planning to pimp out my car, i was wondering... If i design my own subwoofer enclosure, i want to extend the port, so that the enclosure is vented right inside the car (not the trunk) if i did that, would i have to re-calculate port diameter? thanks!

I picked up this 2.1 Edifier M3300 Speaker set at the Goodwill cheap. The Right RCA connection doesn't produce any sound except for a buzz. The left connection is fine. I check the speakers and they both work when plugged into the Left connection.  How do I figure out how what is wrong? Could the amp be broken or just the connector? I don't mind just 1 channel, but if I could fix it, I would like to try. If it's too complicated, I'll just leave it alone.

Hey fellow 'instuctors', i'm gonna be making another subwoofer enclosure soon, an i want to know how i can connect a few LED's, or Neons to the box, just to make it a little more unique. I know it's got something to do with wiring the LED/Neon's in series to the loom to the subwoofer itself. If anyone know's anything, or know any webpages i can visit, i would greatly appreciate the help.

I'm not experienced well with new subwoofers, and I have a JBL sub in my home, but it's speaker blew. I was wondering, if I buy a sub equal size, but it's labeled as a "Car subwoofer" what would happen if I hooked it up?

I know that if you have a ported enclosure on a subwoofer its louder and if its sealed its more precise,  but what would happen if you put a second subwoofer in the enclosure instead of a port? what would the effect be? im just curious.

I know I think I've posted a question like this before. I have a new sub, it's a car subwoofer origionaly (200 watt max (not rms)). So far it's running off the internal amplifier that came out of my old/blow sub (it was rated for around 100 watts). And I have it ported out the side. I had to do some work on the dust cap, it was torn and the torn peice was flapping and making a lot of noise, so I put nail polish enamel on it, a few coats and seems to have worked, but now on the odd beat it sounds like one of the wires going to the voice coil are loose or it's rubbing on something because it makes almost a crackle noise. I figure if it was rubbing, it would make that noise on every singe beat, but it doesn't always. Is there a chance some of the enamel dripped down into the thing the voice coil sits in and it's rubbing somehow? Thanks for any ideas guys!

Hello, I have Harman kardon avr 142 with subwoofer pre out plug in (suitable for active sub), and passive pioneer subwoofer with two cords. Between them I have rg59 with rca head (sub cable). Is there a way some how to convert the pioneer sub to an active sub with rca plug in?

I have a set of pc speakers, no mfgr markings, that were to include a subwoofer. Given to me without the subwoofer. Only reason I know about subwoofer is one side has a port that has printed next to it,"to subwoofer." I'd like to just make it into a set without the subwoofer. It has 3 stereo male plugs, in weird configurations, and I think it may need rewiring. Also has a volume "wheel" switch on one speaker. Oi, this is too much trouble, isn't it? Well, anyone have ideas, even if your suggestion is to go buy a new/cheap set. Thanks folks!?

Hello. I'm thinking of building a 4x4 subwoofer box with one inverted subwoofer on top and one regular vertical subwoofer to save space. Is it possible? I'm thinking it will be weird since one subwoofer will pull and one will push, will it work and do i need to change the polarity?

I have a subwoofer from an old sony surround system that I want to use with a tv sound bar that I got for Christmas.  The subwoofer is stand alone (has its own independent power input) and connects to the surround system via a coaxial speaker cable.

I need help with a car subwoofer, i have a friend whos red wire went, and doesn't have a power antenna akak a blue wire. his red wire went, its a 2000 buick and the cars are notorious for that issue. i have it on a switch for the 12v and i have a jumper from the 12v to the remote so when the switch is flicked the remote and 12 v are powered. is there an alternative wire to connect the remote to besides the red or blue?

I've got this new alpine (well not new, but it still works) 12 inch subwoofer. The box it's in was probably alright for in the trunk of the car, but I'm planning on using it inside, as my sub just blew. Here's the size demensions of it: 15" wide, 16" high, and 13" deep. There's a hole about 3" x 2 1/4" in the back for the wire to come out. I was planning on using the internal amplifier from the blown subwoofer, in this box, but I need to cut a hole to fit the amplifier in. It sounds really punchy, but for a 200 watt subwoofer (that's rms) it doesn't shake my floor at all because it's basically a sealed box, the sub comes out the front, should I cut a hole in the front or side for a port? What if I used the pipe out of the blow subwoofer box, or is it specifically tuned for the 8" that was in there before? Thanks for any help.

I have a home used subwoofer with 220V AC. It has a transformer input of 220V AC, and Output of 12V 2A. I want to fix that subwoofer unit into my boot of the car. My car is running on 12V NS 60 Car battery. To run the unit with car battery I may have to bypass the transformer of the unit and give power from the battery directly to the Amplifier. I have two questions. 1. Is it safe to get a direct power line from the car battery to the unit. 2. How to identify the place in the circuit board to connect the power line from the car battery. (Sample diagrams are very much appreciated)

Hey guys, can someone help me with this?? I have one of these sound cards, as you can see in the picture. It's worked pretty good for me for the past couple of years, but usually the subwoofer output comes either straight from the normal 2 channel stereo output on the card, piggybacked onto the cable that goes to my stereo and then that goes to my sub amp. Either that or right now I have the subwoofer amp hooked up to the line-level subwoofer output on my surround reciever, but it's still 2 channel audio. I've recently been fiddling around with my sound card, attempting to get the subwoofer output on it working. I've tried the black socket on the sound card with a 2 channel 3.5mm to RCA cord and apparently it's the rear channels as the subwoofer volume slider didn't do anything in my creative control panel, and according to a pdf I found online for my sound card, the S/PDIF socket also functions as the center/subwoofer outputs when not being used for S/PDIF. I've tried a 2 channel and also a "3 ring" 3.5mm cable I have for a camcorder (As I believe some of the cables that are SUPPOSED to go with this card, have 3 ring contacts on SOME of the cables). Alas, all I've been able to do is get a loud humming sound out of the connections, doesn't matter what rca channel the subwoofer is plugged into, it hums VERY loudly and absolutely no sound what-so-ever. I have a sony reciever, and it has an active (externally powered) subwoofer output. i recently acquired a set of sony speakers to replace the old ones i accidentaly blew. all speakers connect normaly, except the subwoofer, which uses two bare wires. i need a way to convert this subwoofer, which uses an outboard amplifier, to one with an onboard one. oh, and it has to be for less than $35 , because for that money, i could buy a new one, at goodwill. many thanks !

Is it ok to put 2 subwoofers (wired in series) in a single sealed enclosure or should they be seperated? My worry is that the single sealed enclosure may cause too much pressure rather than adding more pop to the sound.

Hello again, I want to bug you guys again, if you remember, I just fixed these JVC speakers as the seals were gone on the plexiglass. Now that's fixed, I've been noticing that when I play almost any song past volume 20-22 I can really notice a lot of turbulent noise from the tubes, and it's not the seals this time, they seem to be holding out. It just sounds punchy and the noise coming from the tubes kind of ruins the fact that I fixed the seals already, theres 4 screws around where the tube goes into the subwoofer chamber, but I tried taking it out, but it still wouldn't come off even though the 4 screws were removed. Does anyone have suggestions on how I could make these speakers sound better??

I have a surround sound speaker system that only takes the typical stereo wires (you know, positive and negative electrode inputs for left and right side). I also have a stereo reciever that only provides A/V outputs. I was pondering how I could make these work when I realized that, even with an A/V cord, it still needs to make a complete circuit. Thus the cord needs to have two wires going through it, and the plug had a way to complete that circuit. Now that I know this, I want to know if I can cut the plug off of one end, strip the wires apart, and plug those wire ends in my subwoofer? If anyone knows if this is possible, please let me know! And please help me determine which wires are positive and negative current. THANKS!

For a future project (blue barrel infra sub woofer with ducted fan) I'm already looking for parts. I see most amplifiers and amp chips (like the TDA7294) have a frequency response usually 20 - 20,000 Hz. But I'm interested in a range from 0- ca 40 Hz. As far as I understand, the low cutoff is to protect the driver (speaker). Would it be possible to circumvent the low cutoff, or would I have to build from scratch? (I'm thinking in a 70 - 150 W RMS range).

How do i wire my subs to my stereo or existing speakers to make them work without using an amp?

I have LED lights hooked up to the speaker wire of the subwoofer and they light up with the bass, but only at very high volumes (too loud for comfort level) I want to know if theres a way I could amplify that signal that goes from the subwoofer into the lights so they light up at lower volumes, or is there a better way to make them light up at lower volumes. I also don't really want to buy a music interface, I just want to try to make it work with what I have. any ideas?

I want to know will the loudness of the subwoofer be loud enough. I have bought this two products but even on the highest gain setting of the amplifier, the subwoofer loudness is very small. The sound from the sub is like, driving from a LM386 op-amp. Thank you.
