Hover Technology

I have an idea for Hover Tech./Hover board. See if you used sound at a high enough decibel, but at a frequency humans and animals couldn't hear, it could work. Because sound is also a force, it can move things. Anyone agree or have some input?

hologram technology

Holograms are the most popular sci-fi device ever thought up but no one has made a actual entity that can stand in front of you. hologram progectorsfit in pockets in movies why don't they have them now. the closest thing i could find was a video; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLa1rdfu6Bg my idea was to have multicoler lazer diodes that target dust particals in the air and reflect off of them to create an image or perhaps millions of nonobots that position themselves in the air obove the projecter for a more precice image. what do you think?

How to start with Technology?

Hello, I'm already visiting this website for a while, but never really sign up. Today was finally the day I decide to register myself. I'm very interested in the technology section of this website, and I think all of you are awesome inventors! :)  So back to my question, I don't know a lot about technology, so my question was, where is the best place to start (or learn) things about technology? Like building things all by yourself, with batteries and such things. I'm a beginner in technology, I only know some programming on computers, and a bit about how computers are build, but that's all! I hope someone can help me! :) Thanks In Advance! :)

Can Technology be patented?

Can Someone patent a Technology ? i.e. the way a machine works? so that no one can use that procedure to make a machine work ?  I saw a machine , did research and found the way , it works, and i want to make it open source, not by using the same logos , all I want to do is to make the tech open source . can I ? if no, then Why ? and How can I ? I mean what minimum changes do i need ?

Technology; LED flasher

I would like to make a simple single LED flasher powered by a 9 volt battery.  I would like the LED to flash approximately once per minute.  So far with my limited knowledge of electronics the best I have come up with is one that is off for one minute and then on for one minute.  The one I made that flashed once every minute using a large resistor had a very short battery life.  Any help will be appreciated..............................................phil

Auto-follow film technology

Does anyone know if technology exists whereby an object can be filmed and followed by a robot camera when moving at speed (i.e. with motion sensors)? Without the use of a tag on the object being filmed (i.e. like those used by Pixio and Soloshot)? Bearing in mind that the object would be contained within a specific radius.

Clothing, One of The Oldest Technologies

I was reading an article here http://blogs.howstuffworks.com/2011/03/23/funny-and-fascinating-the-importance-of-the-washing-machine/ and it points out that clothing is one of the oldest technologies that is still in use today. Marshall asks a great question, "What will replace clothing made of textiles?" Instructables has done a lot of work on modernizing clothing and I was thinking what treatment would the community here give that question? I think it would be a great competition!

SIGGRAPH2010 - Emerging Technologies Exhibition

Last week I went to Los Angeles to attend my first Siggraph conference. There were so many different events to attend throughout the week. I spent the majority of my time exploring the emerging technologies exhibit. With all the interactive and innovative demonstrations it felt like I had stepped into the future for a moment! In this slide show I will highlight my favorites from emerging technologies. Some of these pictures were taken by me and some I took of their website (you will be able to tell which are which). If you see something that interests you I would suggest following the links I provide to learn more. Organized by picture (put cursor in top left corner of picture to figure out what picture you are looking at) Colorful Touch Palette (1) This is an electro-tactile stimulation systems that allows the user to feel and experience the tactile sensations of painted textures. Blend and combine textures to create new sensations. Shaboned Display - An Interactive Substantial Display Using Soap Bubbles (Favorite) (2-5) This was my favorite exhibit in emerging technologies even though parts of the bubble machine weren't working. This system is designed to show images in a matrix of soap bubbles. Air pumps lie beneath the display controlling the size and shape of the bubbles by monitoring the amount of air released. This system is also interactive! When a bubble pops (touch a bubble with your finger) a musical note will play! LED Tile by Junichi Akita @ Kanazawa University (6-7) Use a laser pointer to draw on these tiles to create patterns on LEDs.  To create large display areas connect individual units of LEDs which will allow them to communicate.   You can also interact with these displays in various ways.  Tilt the tiles and the LED patterns will look like they're falling off the tile in the direction tilted. 360-Degree Autostereoscopic Display (8-9) 3D graphics with out 3D glasses.  Using 360-degree autostereoscopic display technology you are able to view all angles of a 3D volumetric objects. I don't understand all the technical details, but this I do understand...you can use this technology for 3D interactive games, cool!  You can see in the images there is an interface to play BrickBreaker.  Walk around the device as you are playing the game. Imaging Skyping with this!!!!!!!! Haptic Canvas: Dilatant Fluid-Based Haptic Interaction (10) This new technology allows you to experience new haptic sensation by putting your hand in a pool filled with dilatant fluid.. Dilatant fluid is just a 1:1 mixture of starch and water.  It has a solid-like state when an external force is applied to it (grabbed, pushed, or tapped).  And it has a liquid-like state when it is free from the external force. This research is to create a new haptic interaction using this dilatant fluid by controlling the change in state, or dilatancy, of the fluid.  They have created a glove with a sucking tube and a filter which creates a change in state of the dilatant fluid.  The haptic sensations come from the friction between the jammed particles around the finger and at the bottom of the pool. You can see me trying this device (I don't think the camera man understood what I asked him to get me in the frame, but you can see my hand!).  This video gives a great explanation. Meta Cookie (11-12) Imagine eating a lemon and it tasting like chocolate!  This is the worlds first "pseudo-gustation system" which allows humans to perceive various tastes by changing visual and olfactory information.

Best of both worlds (LED technology)

People working under Professor John Rogers of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have managed to combine the robustness of inorganic LEDs (the kind we use so much here), with the physical flexibility of organic LEDs.They have devised a new mass-production method that allows large numbers of small LEDs to be picked up by a robotic arm and embedded into a wide variety of other surfaces, including glass and rubber. The LEDs are bright enough that they can be spread out far enough to be transparent, paving the way for displays built into windows. This is not new science, just new engineering. What would you do with it?BBC storyUniversity of IllinoisThe BBC picked the story up from Science magazine.

Best non-lithium battery technology

Hi Instructables community! I am looking for any insight / suggestions regarding what battery technology (non-lithium) that offers the best specific energy (MJ/Kg), preferably rechargeable and reliable. My research led me to looking to consider rechargeable alkaline batteries, given data on wikipedia (the BEST source ;)  ) but are these even manufactured? I cannot find any place to buy them. BACKGROUND: I am in need of this for the design for the solar car team at UVa, as the BMS (Battery Managment System) mandates a backup battery that is separate and any lithium technology is not allowed.

Recommendation for Contest: Accessibility and Assistive Technology

On behalf of Kiteman, NachoMahma, and myself, I would like to propose to the Instructables staff a contest theme of accessibility (in the sense of disability access, adaptive equipment and assistive technology, and the independent living movement). We'd like to see the contest include not just hardware (devices), but also software and online design (Web, PDF, etc.) which is fully accessible. Both specific designs and descriptions of the guidelines and tools to use should be included. For my own selfish benefit, I would like to have already published I'bles eligible for such a contest, but that's a policy decision for Instructables, not for me.
