I really can't say much about it, since I wasn't really watching that part. They did show "Instructables.com" though.

Kitty TV

Every year, winter comes to RI (as it should). Then every year my family makes a cardboard house for the outdoor cats (they started off as one stray cat a couple of years ago, but of course multiplied). The cardboard houses would be thrown out at the end of winter since they would become soggy (even though we covered them in plastic bags) and an eye sore on the porch. Last winter, one of our friends got a little overambitious and made a house that was way too big (we could have fit both of our Golden Retrievers inside with room to spare), so the cats didn't use it. Last month I reorganized my room and decided to get rid of the cabinet I had placed my TV in. I was gonna toss or burn it, but decided to convert it in to a place for the cats to live. The light located on top doesn't light up, but is instead connected to a flashlight connected to the interior of the cabinet which does light up when the push light is "clicked".

TV antenna

Is it possible to make a tv antenna from an old router? I have an old router and a tv antenna. I am trying to do this because my stupid cable provider won't pick up a second CBS. Then my TV tower fell about 5 years ago. Last month I found this station. It's 79.2 miles away. My little indoor TV antenna pick it up at NIGHT, on CLEAR skies only. (Not in the day) and I have to hold the antenna. I know routers would be didgital (if that has anything to do with it). My tv does have the digital tuner. On digital I can't pick it up, but i do somewhat on analog.

fishbowl with floating tv

Can someone tell me if this has already been done or where i might find some information? (beg pardon if answer is painfully apparent / easy to find and i didnt) backstory: i bought a house. in historical documents of 1905 a lighted "french" sculpture was mentioned. it is now gone but there is a convenient hole with a electric switch for said hole. i was thinking of what to put in the hole and i remembered watching the Chris Isaak tv show something like ten years ago and aside from the amiable goofball lead the show also had an wise advisor character who was dressed up like a mermaid and through the refractive index of a fishbowl and some other feats of science appeared to be floating and moving in a large fishbowl mounted on a table in a bar. question1; does anyone know the conditions necesary to set up a similar trick? maybe with a small tv, cell phone screen, clock, camera, or something else set up on the bottom of a glass ball with the image floating in the ball? question 2; could you set up a large trapezoidal cube made of glass on top of a flat screen tv on the floor where the light bending quality of the glass would redirect the image on the tv on all the surfaces of the cube? sub-question; could you make said cube with slightly convex surfaces to enlarge the image of a very small image projector?

Laser TV Anyone?

While echo_anomie's laser projector is a finalist in the Laser Cutter Contest, a full-color laser projection TV was announced at CES. The LaserTV is coming from Mitsubishi and even though it's a 65-inch beast and is rear projection the footprint isn't that bad and the price is set to be on par with LCDs and plasmas of the same size.At home I watch movies on a 20" Daewoo that I picked up from Best Buy a few years ago because I needed it for work. It works fine enough for me, but I do like to keep tabs on the new tech so I occasionally go and check out the monster TVs that Best Buy likes to push. So far the colors and viewing angles haven't completely sold me enough to drop several hundred or a couple thousand just so I can enjoy the occasional DVD a little more.Still, I'm curious as to how these will look and maybe, just maybe, in a few years I might buy one. What do you guys think? And no discussing the depth please because these aren't that deep and nobody really moves their huge TVs around. link with slightly NSFW pics

Instructables... A TV show?

Or perhaps not.But I think it would be a good idea, it would increase traffic on the site, get more ibles submitted, and on the whole increase the popularity of Instructables. PBS or Discovery might take it up (I prefer PBS personally)...

Fixing A CRT TV

I am planning on buying some classic consoles soon, (NES,SNES,SEGA Genesis,N64, etc) and I want to be able to play them on the kind of screen they were made for, a CRT. I have one that a friend gave me, but due to being moved a lot, and probably not gently, the picture has fallen out of alignment. Specifically it cuts off a large portion of the screen on the left, (leaving a thick space of black on the right) and is at a slight angle. It is not all that big of a shift, but it is a real pain in games with items in that section, because ammo counts, health bars, treasure chests, and even chunks of text can be hidden in that space. Could anyone tell me how to fix this issue? And how hard it is to do?

TV sports blow.

I hate sports on TV.  In math class today, we were talking about how some major league baseball player who gets paid at least 1 Million dollars per year has a batting average of .235, which is pretty lame.  Why the heck do people pay tickets or watch TV just to see average people play baseball or basketball or any sport actually?  In that case, why don't people pay to watch kids play basketball in the gym or to watch adults play softball in their free time?  It's the same thing, the only thing that the people who play sports in their spare time don't have is a huge corporation backing them up and putting their faces on TV. Secondly, it gets in the way of programs I want to watch.  I turn on the TV at the advertised time to watch Family Guy, which was at 7:00, and instead I get to watch a baseball game with sub-par action.  I don't really care about who won what game, and I don't see how this is any different from sports games that adults play out of their spare time.   To make it worse, kids at school just talk and talk and talk about the sports games.  Shut the hell up people!  I don't care about the games, I don't care who won, I don't care about that pass or slam dunk, stop wasting my time.   Boycott sports.  Don't buy tickets, don't watch games, and DON'T BUY ANY TEAM JERSEYS THAT STORES HAPPEN TO SELL!

TV Aerial Modification

Hi, I have a Yaggi style tv aerial (vertical polarisation, wideband) in the loft I pick up the main signals from a sub-transmitter (forgotten the right word) to the front of the aerial - good reception. I receive some weak signals, depending upon the weather conditions, from the main transmitter at the rear of the aerial. I receive these signals by reflections from the landscape, etc. I am thinking of attempting to boost the reception from the rear by placing horizontal directors alongside the vertical directors. Do you think this idea will increase, decrease, or make little difference to the reflected/direct receptions. Thanks A PS.  Before you ask, Yes I have tried pointing the aerial towards the main transmitter, but I get no signals, due to geographical considerations. I get better reception from the main transmitter when the aerial points 90 degreesaway from it.

Connecting a soundbar to a tv?

Me and my family recently purchased an Auvio soundbar from radioshack. It came with an RCA cable to hook up to our TV. However, my TV uses an "S/PDIF" jack for audio. I don't know where to get one of these, but it's been really inconvenient having to switch the RCAs to whatever component I'm using at the time instead of just hooking it up to the TV. Portable Homemade TV Answered

I built a TV from an old laptop screen and one of those LCD control boards you can get from eBay but I’m curious how to go about adding a battery to it to make it portable. So, my question is, how do I go about battery safety and how do I control charging and isolation? For example, if I plug the TV in because the battery is dead, do I just have a charging board between the input and battery and let the charging board take care of the rest? And the same question is applied to when the battery is at peak charge but I don’t want to use the battery just simply plugged in. The battery is a 12v 2A lipo and I don’t want any fires. I’ve thought about adding a switch to simplify things but that’s inconvenient and armature I could make a circuit that would cut off the flow when the battery is at peak I suppose but I’m not sure of the schematics or if that is the right approach. I’m good at building just not figuring this stuff out….

Freesat TV setup.? Answered

I want to set up three Freesat boxes in our home, unfortunately our dish only has one cable running from it & is not exactly accessible being attached to the chimney stack. I know that it is possible to replace the UDC on a dish to serve extra rooms what I need to know is if it is possible to add a splitter box to the incoming cable to split off to extra rooms each with it's own Freesat box? I know it can be done with cable TV as our crews used to do it when I ran operations for a cable installation company so I am hoping that I can use similar splitters for Freesat. Any equipment recommended would have to be in the UK or available online. Thanks in advance for your help folks.

Dynamo powered TV

Hi All, Im not sure what to search for or where to begin with this idea and was wondering if anyone can help me. My wife is always adamant to lose weight and buys random exercise machines (bike, treadmill etc.) These last for about 2-3 weeks then she gets bored of them. She has asked for my help in trying to get her motivated so i have devised a plan. muhahaha She has said that her exercise will consist of her in front of the TV at night rowing away (she just got a new rowing machine again). so my plan is to snip the plug of the TV connect this to a 240 volt relay that i can connect to the arduino and at a set time the arduino will turn of the relay switch until extra power is brought in by the dynamo on the rowing machine. the relay will start at 8pm and turn off around 6am in the morning.   A bypass switch will be added to allow the relay to turn on for 30 mins as we have a small child and she doesn't want to sit rowing whilst watching TV trying to get him back to sleep whilst feeding him a bottle. My question is would this be possible and what stuff would be needed to make a dynamo on to the rowing machine? also can a arduino be programmed to do something with a small input of electric?  Also this idea has been agreed on by my wife.

Would mounting a TV inside a piano damage the TV?

We have an upright piano, and we don't have a good place to put our flatscreen. My thought is to put the flatscreen inside the piano. I have measured for clearance and it fits quite neatly. My only concern is if the vibrations from the piano will somehow damage the TV's electronics. On the one hand, the TV has speakers and generates a dynamic range of sound and volume and does just fine. The TV can get louder than we ever play the piano. On the other hand, the piano sounds are fuller and maybe vibrate more than the speakers in the TV do. More details: The vertical board behind and under the keyboard has a latch that is opened so that the board pivots down and forward.  The TV would go inside the space behind this board. It would make the TV close to the ground, but it would be more convenient than the current location. The space in the piano has a depth of about 6 inches. I would install a piece of 3/4 inch ply across the back to mount the TV to. It would be right in front and possibly touching  the sound board and the bass bridge. The TV is 4.5 inches deep at the deepest point. I am sure that the construction is feasible and well within my abilities. I am unsure of any danger to the TV from such a setup. Any insights, references or suggestions are well appreciated.  Thank you, Michael Moore

Re-using Smart TV board from dead TV to make another TV smarter...

Hi, I have just bought LG 47GA6400 TV but I damaged LCD screen (CRD31092201) when I was assembling it.  I couldn't find low cost LCD to replace and I started wondering how I can reuse any remaining parts of this TV. Actually there are many people like me wondering what to do with dead Smart TV. Few years ago you would receive a standard advice – throw it away. But today Smart TV parts are powerful and with your help might be re-used again... Here is an example: My LG TV has mainboard with dual core CPU,  Google TV inside and cool remote controller with QWERTY keyboard and tons of applications.... I wish I could reuse it with other, not so smart LCD TV I have.  The only problem, how to connect Smart TV mainboard to a HDMI.  It doesn't have HDMI out, it has only input ports and one LCD interface cable.... Is it a crazy idea to convert LCD interface back to HDMI or VGA ? Can you create an instructables to show how to do that ?

Casio pocket Tv: Tv-1900B info/suggestions on uses?

I just received a casio pocket television model: Tv -1900b, produced somewhere in the late 80-mid 90's(cannot find year) as a gift from my sister, purchased for 2.99 from goodwill, she bought it because I like vintage electronics, and thought it was useable as she was not aware of the difference between dtv and analog, and took the label heading that it received working channels for true, from my research it appears to be functioning but is receiving no signal due to the dtv transition. this is my problem, I am trying to figure out ways around not having an available analog broadcast to pick up, and can not find much info for this tv model online, not even part labels manuals or specs, Im wondering what my options for use or connecting it to another device are.. There is what appears to be an extra headphone sized jack/connector at the top next to the speaker, and a headphone plug does fit into it... but the label for it is long gone, so I do not know if it is an external antenna connection, external composite video in port, external video out port, or a service port of some kind, as it is right next to the rod antenna  screw connection, what exactly is it, and can it be used for an external video/sound input connection?, I see that  on other models before and after this one it can be used as a video/audio input, when utilized with a rca to headphone adapter cord but that does not tell me for sure if mine has that ability. What are my options with this?, I have some technologic know-how, but could not build my own signal transmitter, oscilloscope, built in jack, etc from scratch. is this model capable of easy external connections?, is the extra hole for an antenna input, video input or both?, can a box, dvd or vcr be connected, also is wrapping wire around the antenna and then connecting to the coaxial output on an external device feasible? Iv seen it work on other pocket tv's on the internet but dont know about the true signal quality/effeniency I would be able to make most physical external connection adapters myself, or, are adapters other then the headphone to rca adapters sold to remedy the problem of having a rod antenna and little to no external hook-ups? p.s I am not opposed to having it constantly wired/tethered to a much larger device, as it would be used for a novelty or in a small area where a larger unit would be to big or unweildy, like next to a bed, spot at the table, etc, also I would probably not use it for cctv or similar as I have little to no use for such things the picture included is not of my actual item, but the same model and version, for reference purposes I appreciate any help, as it appears to be functioning it would be a shame to not find a use for .
