Help selling unique instruments?

Ok, I have a question. If my friend and I began to build unique cigar box, tin, and slide guitars, would people buy them? We would make them with much more craftsmenship than the ones I have previously build. We would take our time and do our best to make them playable guitars. Would anyone out there contemplate buying one for mabe $35-$50? They would be similar to the links below. https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Make-an-Electric-Cigar-Box-Guitar-for-25/ https://www.instructables.com/id/Cigar-Box-Guitar/ https://www.instructables.com/id/3-string-slide-guitar/ https://www.instructables.com/id/My-Cigar-Box-Guitar-with-cigar-box-amp/ https://www.instructables.com/id/My-First-Box-Guitar/ Also, we would probably sell through craigslist or ebay, maybe even using youtube or instructables to get the word out. If you are interested, contact me because we will be making these plus other products. We may make guitar hero ukuleles, guitar pedals, and nixie tube clocks.

What is a good, unique K'Nex gun? Answered

I've looked at KillerK, nothing special. All of the so-called "K'Nexperts" just have a lot of pieces. 90% of all guns are basically the same, same trigger, same magazine, same firing pin, etc. Something that works, is fun, and not overhyped. Something that would almost fit in with Nerf, but can't have a truckload of pieces and broken pieces. Do that, and I will be impressed.

my DIY (and UNIQUE in the world) NewSpaceAgency

.I've found this website on the WePC community (where I'll post soon some ideas about netbooks) then, I've registered my account here (and this is my first thread/post) to talk about some ideasmy first job was in the electronic field (some decades ago...) but now I haven't enough experience to design electronic circuits (despite I've many ideas of new electronic "things" that I hope to develop someday)I've written several articles about Space on my ghostNASA blog and other articles about Computers, Space and Energy on my personal websitebut my #1 project/goal/effort actually IS my DIY but TRUE (and absolutely NOT just "virtual", web-based, Second Life like) NewSpaceAgencyunfortunately, I haven't the funds other new.space piooners (Elon Musk, Robert Bigelow, Burt Rutan, Richard Branson, Jeff Bezos, Paul Allen, John Carmack, etc.) have... so, to start up my new.space company, I've decided to search a few Sponsors that buy a (now LIFETIME) advertising space on my NewSpaceAgency website home pagein other words, I'm trying to start my new.space company the same way other (now big) electronic and computer companies (like Apple and HP) have done decades ago!I'm aware it's not easy... but I'll try, and try, and try, and try again, until I'll reach my goal !and, the day I'll succeed, my NewSpaceAgency will be the FIRST "garage-made", "DIY", "ads-funded" Space Company of the story!and, of course, also Instructables is welcome as Sponsor of my NewSpaceAgency ... :).

Unique Way to Get Around A University Campus

Hey there Instructables Community! I've used this site for years and years for everything from building my computer, making a crossbow, to feeding myself even this day at my University. Now speaking of which, the University of South Florida has a wonderful landscape. Plenty of paved walkways, foliage, and mild inclines here and there. The top 3 most common methods of getting about seem to be Walking, Longboards, and Biking. Now my question is: What sort of unique device or contraption could I fabricate for getting around campus?  I've come across custom decks for skateboards and recumbent bikes, but they just don't really give me that creative spark to make it. I want something unique and practical, let's not forget there are a few good slopes here and there I have to overcome. I'm a very fit individual so stamina won't be a hindrance in what I'll be willing to make, although funds are tight. It also has to be something I can either lock up at a bike rack, or carry into class and place it along a wall or carry it up stairs if I can't lock it up outside. Thanks for any advice, suggestions, tips, and such! P.S. Although it may be a bit off topic from the Rides sub-forum, here's my latest creation thank to Instructables! http://tinypic.com/r/217bqa/5

How do I design a unique Lego?

There is one unique Lego that I cannot find anywhere, unless I purchase one of the five or so kits that it comes with. It is the same length and width as a 2x4 Lego plate, but has the height of two plates stacked up. The edges and top are semi rounded to take the shape of a sandbag. Other than it being rounded, there are only two main details that set it apart. There is a hole in the center of the block approximately 3 millimeters in diameter, and there are only two pegs on the top of the plate. I have been attempting to recreate this block, but I am having troubles with rounding the block and making it hollow. So all this to say: Is there anyone up to the challenge of designing a Lego?

Instructables.com is Celebrating 30 Million Unique Users!

We’re excited to announce that Instructables.com just hit 30 million unique monthly users! Thank you so much for being a part of this fantastic, supportive, and inspiring community. You all are awesome. We are a community of makers, and we’re all striving to improve our skills. What makes Instructables special is that we’re also sharing what we learn, and in the process, we are becoming better teachers. The two things feed off of each other: improving skills and then teaching them. If I break down my build and explain it to someone else after I'm done, it gives me a chance to examine the how and why in my process that I might not have otherwise done. Creating an Instructable for a project is a chance to reflect and improve upon my design. All that is to say that I love the Instructables community, and I think it is making a positive difference in the world. We live in interesting times. As Instructables author Dominik Textor put it, “things you couldn’t find in a library in the past and had to travel far to learn can be learnt now in moments.” Instructables is a repository for a lot of knowledge, and it is growing every day. I can’t wait to see what you make next!

Unique watches almost impossible to read, but still so cool

Tokyoflash makes some of the most inventive watches around. Rather than just making watches that have numbers or dials, these watches use unique coding systems where the time is told with a collection of individual LEDs. Some tell the hour and some tell the minutes and there's no way you can just glance at any of them and know the time.Still, there's something so appealing about a company that keeps making watches that play by their own rules and force the user to adapt to them. Sure, they're not for everyone. In fact, they're barely for anyone except those who crave something different or are just in love with bizarre information design. I would consider myself one of the latter. This article on Neatorama details 10 of the strangest watches that Tokyoflash (disclaimer: they're ALL weird) and how they tell time. They're definitely a little spendy at $130-$160 a watch, but are worth checking out. The 10 Most Difficult to Read Tokyoflash Watches

Making a personal game system

So everyone and their grandma has posted and made articles for how to make a "universal game system" that emulates the actual hardware of a console on something like a raspberry pi. But my question is this: is it plausible/possible to create your own, unique, personal gaming console? I mean something that doesn't emulate, but rather is an entirely different system (not an NES or Sega, it's a "You-console"!). I understand some criticisms for this: "Why re-invent the wheel? Or at least the console...", "This is too complicated...", "You're stupid" and etc. etc. My reasoning for this is this: Why not? Heck, what a niffty thing to have under your belt to say "Hey, I developed my own game system and make my own games for it! I'm cool!" So what do you guys think? Is it possible? Has someone done it? If not, you guys have any pointers on what to do? I'd like to do it, but I'm not too electronically edj-imukated. Maybe it'll be something I tackle in the future, but I'd like your input first! :)

YOU decide the mod for my new speakers!

Hey I just got the speakers I am going to use for college next year and I was wondering what I should do to them... This is where you come in (if anyone responds or even looks at this). I am interested in modifying my new Logitech X-140 speakers, but I don't quite know what to do with them just yet. I have thought about either spray painting them crimson and cream, or hiding them in some books, like I did with my speaker book (portable), except I would keep the speakers intact so I could remove them if I felt like it. If you have any ideas on what I should do with them, post the ideas here, and if I like your idea (or I think I am capable of completing your idea) I will try to complete it. Your idea doesn't have to be well thought out, just a general idea will inspire me. This will also become an instructable (whichever path I choose). In the instructable, I will also include my source of inspiration.

Seeking feedback on a unique vacuum accessory that can hold a mini flashlight!

Hi there! I believe this is the best place for me to ask this question. I just wanted to get your feedback or opinion on this cleaning accessory we are currently developing, the “Flashlight-Holder Vacuum Cleaner Attachment”. This product is a first-of-its-kind vacuum cleaner accessory that holds a flashlight, to provide light directly at the point of use. Please see this 4 minute video to see what this accessory is all about: https://d2pq0u4uni88oo.cloudfront.ne...-h264_base.mp4 The accessory holds a flashlight, to provide a hands-free beam of light exactly where it is needed. As someone who is engaged with cleaning services/ housekeeping or homemaking, would you consider using this kind of accessory? Or would you stick to what you are using right now? Your feedback will be very much appreciated. If you want to know more about the product, just visit http://dupreehouse.com/ Thanks

should I give up on entering contests/posting detailed unique ideas?

Disheartened by contest results, I really feel like pulling some of my instructables and not publishing any further ones (I am taking some time right now to work on another project I was documenting for instructables but I feel like there isn't a point to the extra time involved in pausing to take pictures of every little thing).  It probably seems silly, but I did end up shoving a whole bunch of my priorities aside to make sure it was in before the deadline. My original idea was not among the top 5%, some of which were things I could buy derivatives of in a store or have definitely seen before.  I guess I am just looking for affirmation that this is a pretty commonplace occurrence, and as a first time contest entrant that eventually something will pan out and I'll wind up with a tshirt (I mean that's pretty much all I want out of the deal, the prizes are nice but the tshirts are cooler. not that anyone would really ask about them, but maybe when I visit geek-saturated areas...) if I keep trying.   Perhaps I was too confident and it takes way more than 50 hours to make a winning instructable (through all my trials and errors, it might have been more than 50) You could tell me that my pictures or use of language were not as good as the others, but I am pretty sure I have a decent command of the English language and most of my photos were ok, with the exception of having a few from a cellphone, in the dimly lit space I had to work in.  Granted, those steps were so self-explanatory others would've just added them as a sentence i.e. "Cut the chain".  I also went through the other entries, also from last year, and was pretty certain I'd place. Could ascribing it as "NoDerivs" possibly have anything to do with how the sponsor judged it?  I just don't want someone using their modified idea for an NGO without considering consulting me, I am only partially employed and am looking for that kind of employment, even being consulted without pay would be a CV boost at this point.  I could care less how many people make it for themselves or other groups in their backyards, as long as they aren't selling the idea or trying to one-up me.  Perhaps I should consider a different license attribute and just write in plain text what I mean by it? How does everyone else network to get people to vote for their entries? When your instructable is complicated, how do you shorten it enough to make sure people of all levels can understand?   Do a few cellphone pictures in an instructable of many photos ruin it (I don't always have a camera on hand and until super recently I didn't have an SLR as mine was stolen in Peru - I had to borrow one for some of my photos)?  Not as many people seem to like my most complicated instructable, so I wonder if length or complexity factors in... Do you think length factors into contest decisions?  Because my next project is also long, as unique ideas often are.  And I don't want to skip describing details and just say "put the capacitor in" or "build a rectifier circuit" when, since I started building circuits this Fall (partially thanks to instructables), I would have wanted to know details like to bend legs of a capacitor if I was following an instructable, and I was super confused by an instructable (a featured one at that) that said simply "build a rectifier circuit".   Sigh, I guess I am just bitter that I won't get one of those awesome tshirts. should I post the next idea on instructables once it is completed or not?  Or are ideas like that generally not appreciated in this community?  (hint: it is similar to the light up swing powered by a bicycle dynamo I posted, but implements another piece of playground equipment instead).  Perhaps I should just keep them to myself until I've built them beyond working prototypes?   Sorry for all the questions and being a Debbie Downer, I am just reflecting on what could have factored into my entry not having been selected as one of the top 25.  I was pretty sure it was at least in the top 10 or so.  If I am going to improve on future projects, I want to know what I should consider focusing on, and if complex projects don't really belong here (or if others have good ideas on how to shorten them).  Thanks all.

What are any and all of the unique flavor bringing herbs and veges used in oriental soups?

I want to include into my garden any and every vegetable/herb i can find that goes well in one soup or another, for adding into (real) ramens and packet ramens to make them better, or better yet, to make my own soup from scratch. Im into asian inspired soups and go nanners for packet ramen simply because they are so much better than the crummy old 2 minute noodles made from nothing but stock powder, im especially fond of seafood noodes. im looking for uncommon or un "western veges and herbs here, like chinese or foreign v's and h's generally used in soups. so far ive uncovered lovage and shino, to be great, and im trying out okra , all 3 i never even knew existed that are uncommon things you wont find at the supermarket (at least in australia anyway) does anyone know anything else? like the dried ones in ramen packets, i think there is some sort of fleshy spring onion in there, i just dont know, i want them all. anything that goes well in a salty soup in short, since asians make the best soups, broths and ect IMO: what are ALL the asian soup fruits, veges and herbs used?

SteamPunk Typewriter Keyboard for PC!!! Handmade please look!!

Check out this eBay auction for the following SteamPunk Typewriter Keyboard!!http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item;=170344004923&ssPageName;=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123"SteamPunk" Typewriter Keyboard for PCThis is a custom made "Steampunk" Typewriter Keyboard that is fully functional and works with any PC! I hand made this over the course of many weeks of hard and meticulous work, using the guts of a very solid Logitech PC keyboard system which I completely rebuilt over many stages, into this solid, beautiful, and unique piece of antique technological art! Three separate sets of antique Royal glass typewriter keys make up all of the keys besides the handmade brass keys (described below). I can personally guarantee this keyboard is completely unique, and you won't find anything like it out on the market! This new beautiful style of combining the old Victorian look with new high-tech products is becoming very popular from young teens looking to be creative and inspired to rich business CEO's wanting something beautiful to match their office. Think about the all the joy and beauty this would bring to your life (not to mention bragging rights!). Right now is your chance to own a piece or art and history which you can put to use everyday! This keyboards design consists of:Solid glass keys from a three different sets of original antique Royal early 1900's typewriters.Hand and naturally aged copper top and bottom rails.Custom, hand punched, leather backing (perfectly fitted and stretched over the top and seamed underneath).Custom bent steel side brackets (which have been properly welded to the copper rails to make a very solid keyboard).Beautiful antique cloth wire loom covering computer connector.Hand made brass Esc key, F keys (done in roman numerals), Arrows, and nine keys above Arrows (because they didn't make any of these keys on antique typewriters).Brief "Steampunk" HistorySteampunk is a sub-genre of fantasy and speculative fiction that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used usually the 19th century, and often Victorian era England but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date.Functionality and BeautyAs I keep strongly pointing out, not only does this piece of techno-art look beautiful, but it also works as beautifully too! All the keys were lubricated then meticulously aligned and ergonomically angled with high strength silicon glue, which will stand up to many years of hard use! Keys that weren't available (such as the F keys and arrows) I custom made from brass which was then clear coated for years of protection.A Brief Fabrication ProcessThis whole keyboard started with an idea in my head one day, and then turned into numbers of sketches and design ideas until I filled my notebook and decided it was time to make it! I started with a high quality Logitech PC keyboard, and gutted it down to the bare parts. Then after trimming all the borders off the top frame I perfectly aligned the key frame back together with now a flat surface. Next I had to hand cut all the key tops off and level them for attachment of the Royal typewriter keys. During this process I custom made the copper/steel rails and side pieces making sure the height and angle was ergonomically correct. Next was the custom punching of the leather backing which was quite difficult to align perfectly, but came out beautifully! Finally the smaller things like the light posts, cloth wire loom, painting and copper aging, and electrical work was done. (P.S. Like I said, this is a very brief summary of the complete process! Many, many steps took place during this fabrication!)Level, Sturdy, and Desk Scratching Friendly! This frame was professionally welded together by a hired welder who meticulously made sure was level and solid. Every detail about this keyboard was thoroughly thought through, down to the hidden padded bases so it won't slide around on your desk or scratch it!You Wont Find Anything Like It!Obviously you can tell by now that this is a very custom piece of art that you have the chance to own and display in your office or home! You can't imagine the beauty of this in real life, pictures just simply do no justice! A few other people have attempted to make such type of typewriter keyboards that consist of the original ugly plastic base and just changed keys.... this keyboard goes above and beyond the bar and you will not be disappointed!Reduced Environmental ImpactAs always, I tried to stay eco-conscious while designing and fabricating this keyboard. It was designed with the following features to reduce its environmental impact:High quality polyurethane based Leather alternative (no animals harmed!)Recycled copper pipingOriginal and restored Royal typewriter keys.Highly recyclable parts (although you'll never want to get rid of this!)

NEW HGTV series in development is casting in your community!

We are looking for homeowners with an eccentric, unconventional approach to home repairs. Do you know someone who is more MacGyver than Mike Holmes? This person’s go to tool for home repair is more likely to be a roll of duct tape rather than a screw driver. Maybe they’ve used roofing shingles to tile the foyer? Not such a bad idea, considering those shingle have a 25 year guarantee! And why return your empties for a refund, when an old can converts into a new shower head? Now that’s worth more than five cents! We are interested in hearing more about these “unique” approaches to home repairs.  Who says you can’t use old crutches to hold up basement stairs. Your leg healed, so why not put those crutches to good use. Or install used linoleum on the kitchen walls for a back splash. Why waste good flooring!  Or use that trusty duct tape in place of caulking around the bathtub. By participating in this fun new series, our expert host will fix the creative handy work and renovate that part of the house for FREE. Who knows, maybe the not-so-handy person in your life will even learn a few things!  We are casting throughout Ontario and would love to come to your community. Contact us today with your un-handy homeowner nomination! To apply, send an email to casting@mountainroad.ca that includes: 1. The story behind the questionable home improvements 2. Photos of each of the eccentric repairs 3. A photo of you and a photo of the not-so-handy person you are nominating   4. Your contact information
