My UPS is designed to run on 36v Dc input. Can i be able to use a single 12v battery for it to run? if not is there a way i can adjust the input power to 12V?

Does anyone else seem to think that a lot of the entries here are not technically mash-ups. I entered one that, the more I think about, isn't really a mash-up. Sure I combined a couple of things to make something new, but unless you consider turning two decorative things into a third decorative thing a "mash-up", I'm not entirely sure it fits this contest. I'm working on something that I think will be more appropriate, but I'm curious what everyone else thinks.

Hi Guys, My first time to post a question here. I had purchase a UPS from a store. The UPS have 2 6 volts battery inside of it, the seller said that 1 of those battery isn't working anymore. My question is this, how do I replace or is it possible to replace it with 1 12 volts battery instead of having 2 6 volts battery to fit there. What will be the layout of the wirings if I have to do it on 1 12 volts battery. I tried making search of the actual item on the net but couldn't find it. Here's the pictures and the information of the UPS Information -------------------------------------------- 2009000002391 MODEL: ELITE 500 VOLTAGE: 220V / 60Hz MADE IN TAIWAN --------------------------------------------

With most UPS's there is electronic circuitry to reduce the home voltage to 12 or 24v to store in the battery, and then another circuit to raise the voltage back to the home voltage. I know there is always a loss when attributes of electricity are changed. This seems very wasteful to me. I want to build a UPS for my notebook computer, that I use as a home server. The power adapter for the notebook creates 19 volts but the notebook itself uses 12 - the other 7 is perhaps used to charge the battery while the computer is on. I would like to put together a UPS made of 12 volt Ni or LiFe packs - would most likely be 13 volts but I don't think that would be a problem to avoid the double switching of the power. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I am wanting to build an Uninterrupted power supply. I was planning to use relays to connect and disconnect and the mains and battery power. N/O for the mains and N/C for the DC voltage. I wasn't sure if the relays would switch fast enough for the CPU to remain on. I loaded 2 pictures. Has anybody ever built something like this?

So... I was wondering, would anyone be up for a challenge? Here it is: USB powered strobe lights, sound reactive. We got lots of geniuses here, but no one makes this little gadget. They have them on the back of the DS's X3, four lights in each side of the cartridge that react to the music that plays through the DS speakers. But, of course, not outside of a DS cartridge, apparently. Could you do it? Are you brave enough, smart enough, quick enough to be the first? Hm. Lets see it. If you do, post ideas and progress here. Seems like an interesting little project.

Hello every one recently i found a 12v 9000mah battery in my stuff and decided to make sth with it and found out that a UPS system can be good. I want to make a system that can give me power for a short time while I am outdoors so the low amper wont be a problem but I want to make the system with lower cost and better quality so I found out that I had to choose an inverter(12 to 220) which I think a 100w one would work. But my problem is choosing the inverter these are my choices based on my research:An inverter starter kit---------the cheapestAn inverter module(ones without box and fan which are small too)Inverters that are used in cars(ones with a box and fan)----------the most expensive

Contrary to popular belief, I havent left instructables, and I havent died. I have however been working on bunches of projects (some of which you may remember from my "Things I'm Going to Post Soon" slideshow). Unfortunately, most projects, such as a crossbow, slide-action pistol, semi-auto sniper, etc., have miserably failed. And even worse, several projects (FAMAS, M6G, and the D.R.A.G.O.N) have been demolished for lack of pieces, and will need to be rebuilt. The first project to be posted will be my M6G Magnum (halo 1 pistol), which should be up by the end of the week, followed by my completely new Sniper, the KSR (at least until I find a better name), which I have made since, according to previous feedback, my R700 simply wasnt cutting the jib. It features an extremely comfortable handle, an upgraded trigger system, and better overall statistics (range and accuracy). After that is posted, I might be able to rebuild the FAMAS, or the DRAGON, but dont get your hopes up, they are hard to remake, so I'll probably just make a new gun, such as the Shipka SMG. Stats: M6G Magnum •Range: ~ 20-30 ft. •Accuracy: Consistent •Mag: Loads 9 pcs. KSR •Range: ~65-70 ft. (depending on bands) •Accuracy: Very Consistent •Mag: Single shot / rail system FAMAS •Range: ~30-40 ft. •Accuracy: Good consistency •Mag: Loads 12 pcs. D.R.A.G.O.N •Range: ~50-80 ft. (depending on ammo type) •Accuracy: Medium consistency •Mag: Single shot / dual rail system PS - Constructive critisism is welcome, but dont just say: "wow _____ gun sucks" The pictures are as follows: 1. M6G Magnum (w/ comparison) 2. KSR 3. FAMAS (w/ comparison) 4. D.R.A.G.O.N

Nowadays many sites do this very horrible thing that is really annoying to the point I just want to throw my monitor out the window or beat the crap out of my monitor with my keyboard over and over. When you go to a site, like this one, you are reading the article, instructable, watching a video (or whatever), and few seconds to 2 mins later, the screen dims and a pop-up comes out saying "do you want to sign up?" Other sites might say "do you want to subscribe?" "Click "like" if you like this article" This is one of those things that's really fking annoying. If people want to sign up, they can click on it in the top right corner. The sheer amount of sites that do this, that forces you to read their pop-up, making you close it everytime. The only thing I am interested in is the instructable/artcle I was currently reading... This site would be decent if you removed it.

Recently whenever I comment on a question the page "scrolls" down like I have commented, but no text shows up. Sometimes this happens with my version of Chrome (15.0.874.121 on Mac osX lion), but a page refresh usually shows the comment. I checked again once and about 4 hours later, but nothing shows up... Any help? :)

Haterz. Stupid, stupid, haterz. What is up with them? I mean, lets take a random example, a few days ago I posted the TR18 (with KILLERK's permission) and it rose up to 4.02* within a few days. Now I checked that a few hours ago, and it was still as 4.02*, and then about 10 mins later, it had gone straight down to 3.85* because some stupid hater gave it 0.5* for no reason whatsoever! Anyway, I just decided that I would share that with you, thanks!

Hey there folks! Looking for some advise again. NH just went through the worst power outage in years (maybe history). 6 days without power has me thinking again. I have means of heat (wood stove) and means of cooking (propane) and lighting (candles and my LED projects), but the well pump is a problem. The need of water to flush the toilets came from the stream nearby, all well and good as it was, washing our bodies from buckets has to go. I have learned that my 220vac well pump actually draws it's power from 2 110 vac circuits. If I have this right (which is my first question, is this even possible) I only need a 110vac converter to run this off my batteries. Now, if I'm correct here (second question) a 4amp 220vac pump is 880 watts, then the draw from the 12vdc battery should be 74amps (give a few for losses maybe 80 amps). I only have 2 160AH deep cell batteries running currently. Am I looking at a reality of 2 hrs (half the draw) or 4 hrs use (full draw)? Or, is it even less.... Yup, that was a third question! I just bought a 2500 (5000 max) watt inverter intended for the shop and thought I would use this as my back-up for the winter. Am i even close here?

A bunch of broken furniture and enough epoxy, and you've got Thomas Wold's Piecemeal.Commissioned to design a "green" coffee table for Good Hotel in San Francisco (the "first hotel with a conscience"), Wold scavenged used bits and pieces to create his piece. Scope the process on his blog. And while you're there, check out the computer station he designed for the same hotel. Details are in the current issue of Ready Made.

Has anyone ever made or taken apart a pop-up tent or hamper or whatnot? I really would like to know what kind of wire they use and how they do it. I think it would make for some interesting and versatile set pieces.I'm thinking along the lines of this type of thing.

Would it be possible to assemble a circuit using a piezo sensor and a string of LEDs so that a snare lights up when hit? My knowledge of stuff like this is extremely limited (read: non-existent) so any help would be appreciated! Also, if my idea is useless, it'd be great if other ways of doing this were discussed. Thanks!

I just found these Converse lying around my house and decided to try asking for help on how to lace them up. I've tried Google, but not much luck. So can anyone point me towards some tutorials, coz these are some pretty wacky kicks and as you see, the blue lace is VERY long, compared to the ordinary white laces next to it. Thanks.

Hey I have a litte problem! (sorta, not yet!) So, I have one of those wall adapter things, and it says it outputs 12vDC and 1 amp. Out of curiosity, i hooked up my volt meter to it and the output was a whoppin 20 volts! Why was it 20 instead of 12 like the transformer said? This is making me worry about my other ones!
