I would like help figuring out how to make this special type of clock . I need some for my daughter, but don't want to shell out the $30 plus dollars for each one. It is basically counting down time in a visual way for children who are too young to understand numbers counting down. I know there are computer based ones online, but it is not always convenient to have the computer on. Thanks for any help! Karl

Hi folks! I just saw this great tutorial about the interactive LED table (https://www.instructables.com/id/Interactive-LED-table/). Can it be modded so that music (over an external program, of course) controls the LED's? If so I would be pleased when you can explain it to me. Thanks

MAKE has just announce a new contest it's running with NVIDIA called the Speak Visual Contest. This is perfect for computer modders since you can enter a PC mod, gamer station or PC hardware creation. Interestingly enough, it's also open to motion graphics and data visualization that uses a graphics card as well.Top prize is a Digital Storm PC with some killer specs that's worth over two grand. Five runners up will win the BFG GeForce GTX 260 OC MAXCORE. Others will win copies of Building The Perfect PC 2nd Edition or Make Projects: Small Form Factor PCs from MAKE.Even cooler, one of the ways to enter is to submit an Instructable with "modificationstation" as a tag. Below is the full list of ways to enter.Flickr: tag your photos with "modificationstation" and also add it to the Make: Flickr photo pool.YouTube, Vimeo, blip.tv: tag your videos with "modificationstation".Submit your project link via the Make: Submit form.Instructables, tag your project with "modificationstation".You can also send links to your videos, photos or more to us via email. Hello Everyone! I would like to present a new website for coding Arduino: www.Cherpa.io This website allows users to code arduino online, but it has these cool new features: - Visualization: There's a dashboard where users can add visualization elements like a gauge, barmeter, graph to visualize data from arduino and controllers like buttons, sliders..to control the circuit and move servo motors for example. - Chatbot: A new chatbot is introduced to answer all electronics related questions. Its still new and learning every day. - Auto-complete for arduino. - You can upload and save your code online in your profile. Here is a video that demonstrates what im talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwTggv5V3Uw I would love to hear your thoughts, an any suggestions! Have a great day :D

The idea is neat, but what's even better is the fact that he has all the source code and instructions on how to make something like this. Hello! I want to build an (analog) sound visualizer. I've already read about building a simple oscilloscope (https://www.instructables.com/id/Music-Visualizer-oscilloscope/) but I want to make something more complex, if this is possible. I want to build a sound visualizer that makes psychedelic stuff from audio. Like the sound's frequency modulates the video's frequency, and the sound's volume (amplitude) controls the video's volume (like how much light is created). How could I build something like this? Just playing sound through a video screen won't work because there is a huge difference in wavelenght. Do I need to build a vocoder (video=carrier, sound=modulator), like with an audio vocoder? I know alot of stuff about audio and audio electronics, however I don't know much about video and video electronics. All help is appreciated!

They included a search box, so you can find your favorite sites. Just make sure you put in a "www." and a ".com", otherwise the search won't work. Enjoy! Via Engadget Source NMAP

The video below was awarded Best Illusion of the Year at this year's Vision Sciences Society meeting. I originally saw this posted in Nature News: In a packed concert hall, Kokichi Sugihara wields a pickaxe and mimes a blow to the stage. "I am a miner, and I have a secret," Sugihara says, adjusting his hard hat and headlamp. "I have discovered a new super-magnet." A screen behind Sugihara begins playing a video. A cardboard structure appears, consisting of four ramps ascending to a raised platform. A hand places a wooden ball at the base of a ramp, and it rolls uphill, before stopping on the 'super-magnetized' platform. As the same trick is repeated for the other three ramps, the crowd lets out an "ooh". Thanks to Kiteman, here's the author's own Web site: http://home.mims.meiji.ac.jp/~sugihara/hobby/hobbye.html Image and video from Koichi Sugihara, Meiji University.

Computer modders take prizes in NVIDIA's Speak Visual Contest. The contest was open to computer modders and visual artists, but most of the winners are modders. The grand prize winner blows away the competition and deserves the powerhouse computer that its creator will get. (We met the Austin Modders at Maker Faire Austin - they had some great stuff on display.)Scroll down, all the way down, to see Instructables user whatsisface's entry that won him a couple books.UPDATE: Another Instructables user, nav.sparx, won a BFG GeForce GTX 260 OC MAXCORE graphics card. Hi all, about an year ago we faced a problem with a microcontrollers and how difficult were for us to use them in a simple home solar system. That was the reason to start our project Agilart (www.agilart.com) with the idea to make a simple web based program designer, where we can visually program the microcontrollers. Now we have the site (www.agilart.com), a short demo video of the idea (http://www.agilart.com/community-and-support/video-tutorials/agilart-getting-started), and a few blog posts where we have tried to give some more details about the project (http://www.agilart.com/blog). We also made microcontroller's part and open source project (http://www.agilart.com/blog/agilart-runtime-in-github). We have plans for open hardware project for microcontollers designed especially for Agilart and providing features on prices under Arduino with Ethernet shield. But why I'm telling you all this? Because we need your feedback and help. We would like to ask you to share what do you think about the approach we propose; what do you think about programming using block-diagrams; do you think you can use such approach yourself; do you need such tool or you prefer programming? This will help us test our hypothesis, to check whether what we think will be useful is actually useful or it is cool only in our heads. This will help us understand does it worth to go further or not. Our vision about Agilart is to provide an easy and intuitive way of working with microcontrollers even from people without technical background. We see it as open source/hardware projects combined with some paid services to cover R&D.; So, thank you for reading this and I will appreciate any feedback from you. Thanks in advance for your time.
