bubble wall?

Hi everyone! I am not a tech .. I am just a girl who loves to create odd things and gets really excited about making cool freaky lights in my house. I would like to find an inexpensive way to build a bubble light wall.. like make it big and part of the wall itself. I have some concept of what I need to do already, but am perplexed at how to build the tank itself .. like an 1nch or so deep .. but if anyone has any good ideas for this I would really love to hear them. also... would it be better to use panels or one large tank .. or if there is anything premade that i could convert into this. Thanks =)

repairing cellar walls?

We bought a house last year that had some water damage on the cellar walls. Last summer I redid the drainage around the house as I suspected that that was the reason for the damage. I am now setting out to repair the inside damage. I should not that I noticed no damage to the outside walls while redoing the drainage.  The inside wall damage consists of 'blistering' and loose light cement/plaster. The cinder blocks seem to be fine and I have not found mold. I have scraped away the loose stuff and will now patch the holes.  I have been told to use a polymer-based household cement but would like to ask the instructable community for advice.  I basically have to resurface parts fo the walls and patch a few deep holes.  How should I do this? Thank you.

Articulating Wall Display

So maybe I just watched too many movies as a kid, but I thought this would be a neat wall display to have. It's based on those old shoot-em-up movies where the main guy would go to the giant room of guns in the fancy displays, expect this wouldn't be for guns (though that would be cool). I remember one movie where some pistols were on a display on the wall, and when the guy pressed a button the display moved out to a 45 degree angle. That's basically what I want to do. Not sure if I could really explain it, so I tried my best to draw my idea so far. There would be a base that's connected to a wall that doesn't move and the display which would move. The top of the display would be attached to slots in the top of base and could move up and down. The bottom of the base would be attached to the middle of the display and would push the display out. Sorry if I'm not making sense, can't find a good way to explain it. I don't know enough about electric motors and controllers to make this or it would be my first instructable, so if someone else wants to make it, please let me know how it's done. This would be fun to see in action. Cheers!

Fixing a wall-wart?

Hi, I have a wall-wart that is working but I'm having some problems with it. It coverts 220AC to 10VDC with 1,3A current. I've been using it mainly to power up 8cm PC fans. Recently I opened it up and saw that below the diodes, board has turned black and it seems fried, that can be from excessive heat generated by diodes, and part of the transformer that was facing this diodes is melted (as you can see in pictures). I think diodes are 1n4005. 1- my first questions is, why these diodes got this hot ? should I change them with diodes that can pass more current?  I have RL205 will that work? 2- I've read somewhere that after rectifier bridge, if capacitor's capacity is high, it will put pressure on diodes and transformer, is this true ? or we can use any high capacitor we can find ? 3- Is there a law by which we figure out how high our capacitor should be after rectifier bridge in wall-warts ? for example If I had a wall-wart with 1000mF capacitor, can I change it to 2200mF ? 4- I am going to use this wall-wart to power up a 7805 regulator, so that I can feed a lithium-ion battery charger module (4056). This module uses 1A. should I put a high value capacitor like 470mF or more, at regulator's input, or is it unnecessary cause of my wall-wart having a high capacitor ? 5- Are they any ways that I can improve this wall-wart ? like if I keep the transformer cool ,when it;s under load ...maybe add another capacitor ... ?

Wall Wart question.....

I have an NCE cx12v500 direct plug in class 2 transformer in the form of a wall wart. I accepts the USA standard of 120 vAC in, at 60 Hz, and outputs 12 vdc @ 0.5 A. I thought this was the recharging unit for my portable drill, and so I plugged it in. After a few hours of charging, the drill moved but was sluggish. I unplugged it, and when I tested the output, it had dropped to around 1 - 1.3 vdc. I can't seem to find a way into the unit either (molded plastic) without sledge hammer or hacksaw usage coming to mind. Did I fry this one I think I did, but I am looking for a possible, no and solution from someone :-) Aaaargh ! I took it apart finally sawed a notch in it and pried it open... and there was #1: NO regulator *sigh*, and #2: NO fuse of ANY kind, and #3: just a tiny board with a 1,000 uF cap on it and 4 diodes (bridge configuration).....one by one I took components off and tested them with my VOMM and sure enough, all the components were good. Then I tested the transformer......and both sides should have tested closed or short, but one side (output) tested OPEN. *sigh* It fried the transformer ! :-(

Wall of case fans?

Hey guys, I have been thinking up ideas all night for wind power. I've been messing around with a decent dc motor I found in a printer, but I'll have to wait till tommorow to make some kind of proper blades for it. I however, have an interesting idea. I was thinking of using just one case fan by itself to generate power (see video below). But then I got to thinking, what if I made a wall of case fans in my back yard? and wired them all up in parallel or something. I measured the output of one case fan I have here and at most I could get was 0.100v DC turning it by hand as fast as I could. I come along so many case fans and throw them out all the time, so why not re-use them?? I'm not sure winter time would be the best time to put something like that out, but I think it would work.

Moss Wall Hangings?

There are patches of that verdant velvet known as moss all around my neighborhood and I'd like to propagate some of it indoors. I was wondering if I could make some kind of wall hanging on which to grow moss. Here are some of the ideas I've brainstormed without a lot of details because I haven't got them. That's what I need you for. Please respond with your suggestions. 1. Cover a frame (I have one that I took a canvas off of) with pond liner (or waterproof roofing paper if I don't have to buy a lot of it), laying channels of organic peat or coir fiber (coconut peat) on top of it and laying a mixture of cheap driveway sealant and the same peat on top of that (with just enough sealant to hold it together, with one end of the channels exposed for watering. 2. Some kind of hypertufa wall hanging that is waterproof on the back with hollow channels inside for watering. I'm not too keen on this idea as making hypertufa seems like a long and difficult process, what with all the drying and curing. Also cement isn't very environmentally-friendly. 3. Some rocks, peat, coir, mulch or some combination thereof sandwiched between a layer of wire mesh and some kind of hard waterproof (or waterproofed) backing. I could start this out horizontally if need be so the moss would help to hold it in.

Wall wart for digital camera

Hi everyone, I have a cheapo digital camera, a Norcent DC-1020. I've been trying so hard to figure out what kind of wall wart I need for it. It's rated at 3.3V and 2A, but here's what's confusing me, at the input it says "DCIN3.3V," which makes me think it needs a DC wall wart, but the sticker on the bottom says "3.3V [symbol] 2.0A max" where the symbol is two lines, one solid, one dashed. I thought that symbol was for AC?

wall painting side effect

Recently I painted my daughter's room with pink color (egg shell finish). Unfortunately there is lot of pink color reflection in the room. entire room feels pink, even ceiling, door and closet are white. It seems that color was darker side of pink. In the past when the room had white color, two bulbs gave good light. Now even with 4 bulbs not enough light.  I saw many houses with different colors, but never felt such type of huge color reflection. Now this room is no more good for studying. Why it happend? How can I fix it?

Wall outlet current draw

I have built a transformer, that will take 120v, and step it down to 2.5v. I used all the right parts, and the correct rated wire for this. My only issue, is that when i connect the primary coil, to a call outlet, at 120v, it draws more current then my 5A fuse can handle, and the power goes out in my home. I need to get 1.5 amps, @120v going through my primary coil, in order to get the desired output on the secondary. I was wondering, how things "draw" current from the wall, as well as if i where to use a resistor, wouldn't it still draw too much amperage, and just dissipate it in heat, to give the desired output (i cannot use, because it draws more than 5 amps). i could not find a resistor out their, that could handle over 100 watts, so i was also wondering how things like vacuum cleaners only draw a small amount of current. Would i need some sort of current regulator (if that's even a thing)? if you had a light-bulb, and a battery, would the circuit the light-bulb is attached to drain less current, if their was a resistor, and thus having the battery last longer, or would it draw the same amount, and just dissipate energy through the resistor in the form of heat, to give the light-bulb its self less current?

Wall of PC Case Fans?

Hello guys, sorry if this is the wrong section but, I was thinking of making a DIY fan out of PC case fans to keep myself cool in the summer. I've tried a number of fans in the past, but they don't seems to be very good. I usually put them right next to an open window to draw cold air in. I was thinking of making some kind of rig like in the video below, only without the bitcoin mining computer. I got the idea from this video and from when I was messing around with the fans in my own PC. I was chancing the speed of the fan for the PCI cards and noticed that it could get really cold if ramped up a bit. ) I was thinking of using 9 identical 120mm or 140mm fans, preferably ones that can be used with a fan controller. Here is a few of the things I need help with. How will I power the whole thing? What kind of cabled will I need? Could I use a fan controller to power all 9 fans? Can I even hook up 9 fans to a fan controller? Maybe I could use 2 fan controllers or something? What brand of fans should I use? How will I attach the fans together? Cable ties like in the video? Maybe I could make a makeshift wooden stand to hold them upright.
