If a movie is ever made about you, which actor would you like to play you?

To start, if a movie is ever made about my life, I would like to have George Clooney as my first choice, Gerard Butler as second choice and Pierce Brosnan third. I share a striking resemblance to these actors (tongue in cheek). My theme song would be Forever Man by Eric Clapton.

Script I Wrote

This is a script i wrote for my graphic design class for a video project im doing. this is the first time me doing this. i didnt give the actors names because i wanted it to relate to people wathcing it and say "oh that sounds like me..." I was wantting to make something emotional that would motivate people to keep pushing on even when times are hard.( i will have pictures of story board up latter) hope u enjoy it :D By: Nick Melinich Female Actress *(voice spoken in her head, not out loud. More the actress talks, the more emotional she gets. By the end of her line, the actress will be sitting with her knees pressed into her chest, arms wrapped around her legs (like she is hugging for comfort), and lower part of her face buried in-between her knees, back facing the door, on the ground crying .Monolog show what the actress is experiencing, like getting bullied/ getting bad grades/ sleeping at the her desk/ and feeling alone.)* “I can’t… take this anymore… everyday just gets harder and harder… bad grades … no one to talk to…getting picked on……. Feeling alone… I can hardly sleep anymore, my new bed had become the desk im at, and my pillow is a cold hard text book… I feel like im losing control, my life is just slowly slipping through my fingers… when I attempted to stretch my hands to its full extent, deep into this dark abyss. Trying to grasp motivation/hope/happiness…no matter how much I try… I always to come out with a handful of disappointment… what’s the point anymore… in coming to school… im just set to fail anyways… no matter what…” Actor Enters the Room *shot will show the actress in the middle of the “year book” floor with her back towards the door, sitting (like in previous scene). Camera is eye leveled with her. Actress looks like she hit “rock bottom” with hair messed up on one side. Actor creeps in slowly to check on the actress. When the door clicks behind him the actress will be startled by it and jump and turn around to face the actor* ACTOR “Hey… are you all right?” Actress *turns and slowly walks away, arms folded* “just go way…” Actor “no, you seem like you need someone to talk to” Actress “(pauses, shallow breath in to chest) I can’t do this anymore…” *sobs* Actor “do what?” Actress “(quiet, monotone voice) school/ all this work/grades/ life/ just everything…(slowly raises voice) its all just to much, I question why I even come in at all, there’s nothing to look forward to, there is no one I can talk to, there is nothing for me… im alone… I give up!” *goes back onto the floor, full face into knees, crying.* Actor “You’re not alone… im here, there are teachers here that care… you have friends that care, your surrounded by people that care and are willing to help… if you give up now, you will be throwing away all of the years that you have spent learning…  you wont be able to do anything with your life… and that is when you will be truly alone… even though the hard, challenging times. You have to keep pushing through, even though there is no sign of hope.” Actress *slowly turns towards actor* “your right…” Actor “don’t worry about it “ Actress *walks up and hugs him* “thank you so much” Actor *pulls away from hug, looks at her and smiles* “do you want some help with your work?” Actress *wipes her face dry of tears and smiles back* *Says in a sad tone, but more happily* “(pauses) yes I would.” Ending shot *actor helps actress out with her over bearing work, and cheers the actress up and gives her that motivation to work again*

It's for a play and the actor has to be wheeled around the stage a bit but mostly just sitting still.

Seeking engineering advice on mounting heavy weight in concrete ceiling

Hi all, I am designing/building a prop ceiling-mounted surgical arm (see reference photos attached) into a 15" concrete slab ceiling for a hospital room set for a tv show. I'm also attaching two sketches of the two different arms I plan on making and I'm hoping some of you clever engineering-types may be able to identify flaws in my schematics before I go too far with the design. If you see something that could pose a danger to the actors or have and alternative suggestion I would be grateful!!! Here are my concerns: 1) what are acceptable stresses on all joints due to weight distribution and actors moving the parts around? 2) the heavy duty industrial casters that tapcon into the ceiling: would they get pried apart as weight is applied gravitationally? 3) can the concrete ceiling handle the live stresses of actors moving the arms? 4) can the horizontal PVC arms handle the weight or do they require a welded metal skeleton? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Any feedback would be greatly appreciated; I'm in my research phase of this build now so please let me know your thoughts!!! Thanks, Damian

Designer eye trauma

Five hundred pounds will buy you a work of art only half an inch across. Horror-fan Kevin Carter, 36, spends up to two days hand-painting colourful dye on to each lens with a fine brush. The result turns customers into zombies, mutants, gives them an eye with teeth, or mirror-finish eyes.  For the connoisseur (or horror movie actor), there is the traumatised look... Color changing stage lights?

I'd like to make a light that will accommodate 2 or three light bulbs/spotlights/floodlights so that one comes on, and ideally fades into the other. It would be used in haunted houses. I am pretty sure this is a simple build, but I'd appreciate direction or advice.  Or a full on Instructable. A simple setup with a switch (foot pedal?) that simply shuts off one color and turns on another would do.  A button that begins to fade one color out and another in would be better.  One that can be set to fade from one to another automatically at a predetermined interval would be awesome. Such a setup can be used to create a transformation effect as simple as Jekyll into Hyde or as elaborate as girl into gorilla. The reason I would prefer it to be automatic is so it can be "plug and play" with only one actor, and work even if it's a different actor each night. Probably something like this exists commercially, and A), I don't know what it is called B) I'm doing it for the Boy's and Girl's club, which has no budget, which means I'm paying for it, which means it needs to be as low cost as possible. C) If I can build it well and inexpensively, I'd like to play with variations on the theme.

Whats the best/convincing way to do a STABBING effect for a movie on a very low budget, less than $1000? Is it possible to fix a broken Canon T2i audio input jack?

During my last video shoot one of the actors tripped on the microphone cable and partially broke the audio input jack on my Canon T2i. I now only get the right channel of audio when I hold the mic cable at just the right angle. Is it possible to fix this myself? Can I take it to a shop to have it fixed? If I take it to a shop what price should I expect? The camera body is worth $500 new. Thanks.

I'm seeking ideas for building a prop exploding dynamite stick

Hi all, I'm building a prop dynamite stick that will "explode" onstage. It will be standing upright on a crate (so I can hide mechanisms in the crate) and will suddenly explode. I have a pyrotech license and can use gerbs to make a small fiery explosion but I'd like to SAFELY make the stick of dynamite explode into several pieces (foam???) without any risk of hurting anyone in the audience (this is because an actor will find and collect the pieces of dynamite later in the play). I'm seeking thoughts on how you guys might approach a build like this. Cheers! Damian

How to make an LED light up for a second or two with a button press, regardless of how long the button is pressed? Answered

I am looking to make a prop gun that just need to have a small flash for the sake of actors to know when the gun was "fired".  I was hoping there is some way to make a small analog circuit to do what I need, and that is this: I need an LED to light up for a second or two, then turn off. The lights need to turn off, regardless if the button is still being depressed or not. If the light needs to go off again, then the button would need to be release and repressed. Thanks for the time!

Vertigo Lights

A few years ago I was attending a Halloween attraction where a conversation started about seeing a red skull.  We asked a few of the actors and I got the name of the attraction's special effects person.  What we were seeing was a programmable sheet of red LEDs that would flash so fast that you could only see the after image.  The F/X guy called it Vertigo Lights.  I understand the concept, but wondered if anyone has come across anything like this.  Could this be controlled by an arduino, or would a program need to be written to control all of the lights simultaneously?  I haven't been able to find anything like it in any of my searches. Any clues would be great!

Have any one "superpower," what would it be? For me: Place: Mars, about 70 years ago. People: 1) Ernest Chappell, actor on Quiet, Please!, a 50's radio show. 2) Wyllis Cooper, writer for Quiet, Please! 3) Eoin Colfer, author of the Artemis Fowl series. 4) Ernest Emerson, founder of Emerson Knives and the Emerson Combat System. 5) Mikkel Maltha, the keyboardist/ bassist/ backing vocalist for the Danish band CRYOSHELL. Superpower: The ability to alter my molecular density, rather like Seth's in "Race to Witch Mountain" What would you choose?

How do I make a battery-operated signaling light that can be wirelessly turned on at a distance?

I want to construct a device that can turn a switch (probably for a light) on and off at a distance, but does not use IR (LOS not an option), and that can run on batteries. The intended use is for possible theatrical applications (remote actor cueing) and possible home security (a "help me" signal between floors). I have very little electronics experience but had can make circuits for things like switching on wired LED's. I would like to know what components I can use and how to hook them up, also maybe where to get them.

How do i build my acting resume up if i have no way to get to New York or Los Angelas anytime soon?

Hello, I am an aspiring actress and I live very far from any prestigious acting schools, and the job prospects for actors are slim to none around this podunk little town. All of the extra jobs I could do like community theater or school plays are mainly musical, although I love music, I'm not that great at singing or playing some of the instruments to want to make a career out of it. I'm really interested in acting for films though, making people feel something is the reward for doing something like this and it feels so great and I love it so much that doing it for a living would really make me happy! I was just wondering, how do I build my acting resume up if I have no way to get to New York or Los Angelas any time soon?

How can I make a small TV using a small LCD screen? Answered

I have a movie project idea that requires the use of a prop with one heck of a twist. Im trying to make a "Crystal Ball" that can project a movie from the inside of the ball, and I need to find some way to make it work without the necessary use of any tv or usb cables, even though it can use them. (Ex: in one shot, the actor is holding the ball, and is visible from head to his waist, but there are no cables running from the ball) So it could use video data from an SD card or a USB and also be used as a TV. The largest ball I can find is a 3" diameter clear plastic craft ball from a nearby hobby shop in a neighboring town. I guess what im asking in a nutshell is "how small can you make a diy projector?" Any help with this will be greatly appreciated!

Dorkbot Anglia 30th June 2011 - brief report, and an announcement.

It was a very pleasant evening, once I got parked (a lot of Bury St Edmund's car parks close early).  Only about two dozen people came to hear the speakers, but many more would have been cramped in the main room of the small gallery.  Bowls of snacks were out, along with a small "bar" (a table of bottled beers, available for a donation to the evening).  Unfortunately, whilst I remembered to take a notebook, I forgot to take my camera... Sitting with a beer, surrounded by Art and listening to enthusiastic Makers in the company of like-minded folk.  Mmmmmmm. Smith's Row curator, Rosie Grieve, kicked off the evening with an outline of how and why she ended up offering to host Dorkbot and arrange speakers for the event. The second speaker, and the main highlight for me, was Fraser Reich of Kore Technologies, showing off his mass spectrometer in a briefcase.  It's not a brand-new technology by any means (the machine he brought had been under constant vacuum for eleven years), but I am old enough to remember when samples had to be sent to dedicated buildings, and results came back days later, and Fraser's enthusiasm for the machine (it's largely his baby) was a joy to listen to, as he did a live test of the air in the room (benzene! toluene! silicone!) and the vapours given off by an orange, turning out useful results in only ten seconds. The third speaker, Lee Patterson, is a sound artist who works with recordings made "in the wild".  He attaches cheap piezoelectric microphones (so beloved of makers of cheap electric guitars) to street furniture, or makes his own hydrophones and records the lives of invertebrates and event weeds in the urban ponds of his native Manchester (MP3 files available here).  He talked us through his work, and also gave a live performance of nuts and seeds burning, attached directly to two of his microphones - the sound was... weird.  It sounded like tunnel-traffic, trains and room full of over-boiling kettles.  Although Fraser was the better speaker, Lee inspired in me more ideas for future projects.  I took notes. The final speaker, Anton Woodward, talked us through his work on stage automation - the sort of bespoke-built devices that fly actors through the air, lift scenery out of the stage, and don't quite drop chandeliers on the audience (yes, that was his).  He took us through a brief history of stage automation, from the early days when each motor had to be controlled by hand, live, by an operator as well-rehearsed as the actors, to modern systems that can automatically throw tonnes of equipment around the theatre with hundreds of motors, all under computer control, and showed us video of the kit in action.  His work includes Phantom of the Opera, Billy Elliot, and he has now moved into screenwork in Bollywood and  X Men: First Class (he created the mechanics of Banshee's flight sequences, which involved hanging the actor stationary in a harness, then shooting the camera towards his face at 40mph...). A very enjoyable evening, I shall continue to get to Dorkbot Anglia events whenever I can. ------------------------------------- For future notice, the event was compered by John Bowers of the Curiosity Collective, who have a show coming up in Ipswich soon, an exhibition of "interactive curiosities" with the general theme of "time". I don't know if I'll get to that one, but if I do, I'll definitely take my camera...

Computer Science Project: Automated Follow Spot

Hi all!  This is my first post on instructables. I've been using this website for years to facilitate many projects, however this is the first time I'll actually be posting any questions of my own on the forums! Exciting! I'll cut to the chase, for my computer science A - Level I am required to complete a programming project, complex enough to get me a good grade, but feasible enough to actually complete! I decided to take a more practical approach and have arrived at the decision to make a robot of some kind. As I'm heavily involved with the drama department in the school I wanted to create something that could also help them. I decided upon an automated device that can use some form of trilateration to determine the position of a person on stage and then position a light to light them up. For those who have more experience in the world of technical theatre, I'm talking about an Automated follow spot. For those who don't here is a link to a wiki page.    The premise being that a person normally has to control a follow spot, pointing it at the person (or people) on stage, to light them up. An issue we have is that sometimes we don't have enough stage hands to operate the follow spots, which means they're left by the wayside. My idea will negate the need to have a human operator and should simply follow the person around the stage. The main idea at the moment is to use a single long range bluetooth transmitter, attached to a wristband (which would be worn by the actor/actress) and have three long range receivers, which in conjunction can trilaterate the position of the actor/actress and position the light to illuminate them. I have a couple of  questions: 1. Firstly, is this feasible? This is a project that I really want to see through to fruition, especially as it will count towards my final A-level. For someone of my level of knowledge/experience - is this possible? 2. What would be the best method for transmitting the radio signal? Bluetooth sprung to mind instantly, but is this the best option? I know there might be potential pitfalls in that a theatre is full of metal items and interfering signals that could disrupt this, so are there any better alternatives? I know there are only two questions for now, but I've only just started the design of the project. I'm sure when I get seriously into it I'll have many many more, but I trust that the good people of instructables will be able to provide some help! Thanks again, Eliot C-Hill

I had no idea they covered kissing on that site!

My 18 yo son discovered this site a few years ago and has made good use his find. He has made some amazing masks and costumes (he is an actor) and finds all sorts of things on that website.Funny story: His 16 yo sister recently came to him with a problem -- she now has her first serious boyfriend, but is nervous because, in her words, "I don't know how to kiss!" Since he has had a few girlfriends, she asked if he would he explain it to her. BUT... she didn't want to hear too much because the topic embarrassed her so much. What did he do? -- Directed his sister to Instructables.com, of course! I just laughed and laughed when she told me this -- I had no idea they covered kissing on that site! An ode to bald men

When I was a child, in a galaxy far, far away, during the turbulent times of the 70's, my brother and I watched our little black and white Zenith® TV. I remember watching shows like Kojak, Columbo, The Streets of San Francisco, The Six Million Dollar Man, Police Woman, and many others. I also watched late night movies like Yul Brynner in The Magnificent Seven. Watching Telly Savalas and Yul Brynner with their manly bald look. Years later when I lost my mane I became inspired by these two actors that shaved their heads during those years. One day I decided to shave whatever little hair I had left and started to proudly show my shiny head. The first day my wife took a good look at me, told me that I looked "sexy". That is when I took her to the eye doctor for a new pair of glasses. I have been showing my baldness proudly for a number of years and I wonder if more of my Instructables brethren share my views. Remember: God made a few perfect heads and the rest He put hair on them.

John Cleese's "Letter To America"

Forwarded along by an Aussie. Enjoy.Dear Citizens of America,In view of your failure to elect a competent President and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective immediately. Her Sovereign Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths and other territories (except Kansas, which she does not fancy), as from Monday next.Your new prime minister, Gordon Brown, will appoint a governor for America without the need for further elections. Congress and the Senate will be disbanded. A questionnaire may be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed. To aid in the transition to a British Crown Dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect:1. You should look up "revocation" in the Oxford English Dictionary. Then look up "aluminium," and check the pronunciation guide. You will be amazed at just how wrongly you have been pronouncing it.2. The letter "U" will be reinstated in words such as "colour", "favour" and "neighbour." Likewise, you will learn to spell "doughnut" without skipping half the letters, and the suffix "-ize" will be replaced by the suffix "-ise."3. You will learn that the suffix "burgh" is pronounced "burra"; you may elect to spell Pittsburgh as "Pittsberg" if you find you simply can't cope with correct pronunciation.4. Generally, you will be expected to raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels (look up "vocabulary"). Using the same twenty-seven words interspersed with filler noises such as "like" and "you know" is an unacceptable and inefficient form of communication.5. There is no such thing as "US English." We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take account of the reinstated letter "u" and the elimination of "-ize."6. You will relearn your original national anthem, "God Save The Queen," but only after fully carrying out Task #1 (see above).7. July 4th will no longer be celebrated as a holiday. November 2nd willbe a new national holiday, but to be celebrated only in England. It will be called "Come-Uppance Day." 8. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you're not adult enough to be independent. Guns should only be handled by adults. If you're not adult enough to sort things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist then you're not grown up enough to handle a gun.9. Therefore, you will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous than a vegetable peeler. A permit will be required if you wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public.10. All American cars are hereby banned. They are crap and this is for your own good. When we show you German cars, you will understand what we mean.11. All intersections will be replaced with roundabouts, and you will start driving on the left with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric immediately and without the benefit of conversion tables. Both roundabouts and metrification will help you understand the British sense of humour.12. The Former USA will adopt UK prices on petrol (which you have been calling "gasoline") - roughly $8/US per gallon. Get used to it.13. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call french fries are not real chips, and those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called "crisps." Real chips are thick cut, fried in animal fat, and dressed not with catsup but with malt vinegar.14. Waiters and waitresses will be trained to be more aggressive with customers.15. The cold tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not actually beer at all. Henceforth, only proper British Bitter will be referred to as "beer," and European brews of known and accepted provenance will be referred to as "Lager." American brands will be referred to as "Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine," so that all can be sold without risk of further confusion.16. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as good guys. Hollywood will also be required to cast English actors as English characters. Watching Andie MacDowell attempt English dialogue in "Four Weddings and a Funeral" was an experience akin to having one's ear removed with a cheese grater.17. You will cease playing American "football." There is only one kind of proper football; you call it "soccer." Those of you brave enough, in time, will be allowed to play rugby (which has some similarities to American "football," but does not involve stopping for a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body armour like a bunch of Jessies - English slang for "Big Girls Blouse").18. Further, you will stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the "World Series" for a game which is not played outside of America. Since only 2.1% of you are aware that there is a world beyond your borders, your error is understandable and forgiven.19. You must tell us who killed JFK. It's been driving us mad.20. An internal revenue agent (i.e. tax collector) from Her Majesty's Government will be with you shortly to ensure the acquisition of all monies due, backdated to 1776.Thank you for your co-operation.John CleeseLink

"The meaning of life and reasons of living. "

They are just four letters L-I-F-E...Based on just these letters,is life that short indeed? No...it is just a short word ,but the meaning of it is not that short, moreover it's quite long. Can someone tell me what does life mean? I think i know,or at least i will try to explain as i see it and as far as  i have experienced it till now. Everyone says that life is short...but do you know anything else that lasts longer than this? Actually, life is the longest experience full of most unknown surprises that  we find ourselves in while we are breathing. Its the longest experience we are part of without having the chance of taking or leaving it.  Life is the hardest exam and the only one in which you can not cheat even if you try.  It is the theater we all are actors of,where everything happens in front of our eyes, around us and most of times suddenly it takes our breath away. Breathing does not mean we are leaving a life. Breathing helps us understand and realize that we all have reasons that keep us alive day by day. Do i have reasons?! Of course, i do! I do have my own reasons for still breathing. It is maybe only one, maybe one hundred, maybe more or less than this. I  do not  really know how many reasons i have, but it does not matter. I may not see these reasons, but sometimes i do feel what i am still breathing for. I can feel why i am looking up at the stars every night. I can feel the reason i am walking on the streets every day. Everything that happens has a specific reason. My most important one is love. That is the love i have for my life i am living and for everyone who is part of my world. I see it as the stongest feeling that makes you live in Earth touching the sky. Another reason of living my life is hope. The hope for a better day,and for a successful future makes me breath deeply. The belief of having a power to  make  a difference even if someone do not and will not  understand me keeps me alive. The beauty of life makes me wake up happily every morning and enjoy the new day that comes. My stubbornness makes  me fight for everything i want each day. I am enjoying every moment of my life. I am still breathing because i do not feel lonely, but that does not mean my life is depended on anyone's . Nobody's perfect,we all make mistakes, but not everyone regrets. That happens just because some people still think about how much fun they had while  making  the mistake. I am open to anyone that gives me advice, but as i do not judge anyone for anything they have done ,i do not want to be judged also. It is me and that is my life and i have my own reasons for everything i do. While most of people will be commenting on my desicions about my life,i will be waving them from the stars.....
