spy aircraft

Is there a RC plane or aircraft, (like helicopters or hovercrafts) that can carry a camera and drop a payload. This would be great for pranks or dropping weapons for allies in an airsoft war, maybe even shoot airsoft bb's, that would be awesome. If you know how to make at least the first two or know a product that can do that tell me.

Aircraft comm system

I work on jets for a living and there are many times that we are stuck on the comm system for hours at a time running up operational checks. What I have done is taken a female and male comm jack and spliced in a headphone jack so I can listen to music. It works fine when I am not plugged into the jet, I can hear the music in my head set. But what I want is to plug it in to the comm system and have everyone on comm hear the music. So here are the two problems I have "they should have the same answer" I need the music playing in my headphones not to travel back to the source and I need the music I pipe into the mic end not to turn my mic into a speaker. I have a basic understanding of electronic principle so is all I need 2 diodes? Just looking for some help.

Homebuilding of experimental aircraft?

Hello Instructables I am a professional aerospace engineer who homebuilds aircraft in my garage when not doing so for work.  I live and work at the Mojave Airport which is a hotbed for aircraft homebuilding stretching all the way back to the 80's.  The experimental aircraft community does not have anything like what you all are doing on this website.  When I found your site the first thought was that I had finally found the place to talk about buillding airplanes.  But I see no such topics on the site.  While fundamentally I assume the problem is only that the channel has not yet been created or there is a liability problem, I wonder if there isn't more to it.  Is the thought of designing and building and flying your own airplane not as awesome for others as it is for those of us who live in Mojave?  Is there something that can be done to make this exciting world more exciting to people (like yourselves) who take such pride and make such investments in doing cool stuff in your garages? Robot fliers in commando competition

People and micro-aircraft race to rescue 'hostages'Robots inspired by moths, locusts, flies and swifts will take to the sky this week in an international competition for micro aerial vehicles in Agra, India. Teams will vie for the title -- as well as up to US$600,000 in funding -- for their tiny flying machines. The mission calls for squads of aerial and ground robots to reconnoitre for human 'commandos' tasked with reaching 'hostages' in a building one kilometre from the launch point. The robots will need to detect and disarm simulated chemical mines in an urban environment, and guide the commandos past guard teams to the hostages -- all within 40 minutes. The robots will use a mixture of wireless communication with a ground-control team, and autonomous navigation."It's a tough competition," says entrant Hemendra Arya, an engineer at the India Institute of Technology in Mumbai. "It really gives a challenge for the designer."Micro aerial vehicles (MAVs) are hard to detect, maneuverable, portable, and more energy-efficient than larger aircraft. The United States is currently using first-generation MAVs the size of a rucksack to warn convoys about roadside bombs in Iraq.Larger unmanned aerial vehicles such as the Predator have been used for years to spot and attack enemies, but they need an airfield. The effort to build smaller craft got a boost when the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) began sponsoring competitions in late 1996. The US Department of Defense is co-sponsoring the Indian competition. more here

Large-caliber Sundial

I was wandering the web, looking for information for a future Instructable, when I got ever-so-slightly side-tracked.I came across this blog entry about a bunch of people who made their own, rather unique, sundial:Our friends in the village are building a garden from scratch, to go with their new house. A key part of garden planning is to get the major design "features" sorted out ahead of the planting. One of the things that the boys wanted was a sundial, so work has started there. The plan follows the traditional method of sundial construction, as you will see from the pictures:1. Buy a World War II anti-aircraft gun (preferable the portable kind)2. Put it in the garden.3. Make sure the safety catch is on.4. Invite some like-minded nutters round for a barbecue and get them working the elevation controls.5. Set the barrel to exactly 52 and a bit degrees elevation (to match the latitude of the garden).6. Do some nifty work with a calculator and a compass to figure out where the hour markers go for precise "Northmoor Time".7. Unilaterally declare independence - and if anyone argues....:lol:Link to Blog

Arduino Controlled LED "Aircraft Runway" lights?

Excuse me Please: I have a project with a specific need, which I "think" an Arduino and LED strips can meet. The effect I would like is to have the LEDs all dimly lit, and have a single/few run along the length of the strip with increased brightness and returning to the dim intensity once past. think: aircraft runway lights. also, which I think may overly complicate the project, I need like ten strips all running concurrently, each with singular/few brighter LEDs running the length and randomly repeating. does what I explain make sense?

micro alternator airborne / out runner balance charger for large scale rc aircraft

Using the same concept as diesel trains. As they drive / pull on electric. The drive train is actually electric . The noise we hear are the generators charging the power banks. . Electric are far more efficient than diesel or gas engine direct  to the drive train. That being said. How can we set up micro scale generator on board 1/3 scale electric rc airplane. concept : connect 40 size os max rc nitro engine direct to 700 kv E. out runner shaft , rectifier bridge /  12 volt SMART lipoly charger, all this to enhance primary lipoy bank on large scale electric rc planes. ( increase flight time dramatically) sounds stupid I guess, but the concept apparently works in real world cargo trains. Can anyone help wth the system set up of rectifier bridge components to give this a shot ? I have no electrical expertise.  Thanks Jeff

Is it possible to make a plane that can hover (helicopter style) in the air using three downward facing turbofans? Answered

Would it be possible to make a plane that can hover (helicopter style) in the air using three turbo fans or turboprops (two big ones on the sides to lift the aircraft and one on the back to steer) I was just wondering if that would be possible, not that i even have the tools to try it out. I just have a hobby of speculating about these things. If it would really be tried in the near future, it would be a great alternative to an attack helicopter! See this link for a good example how it would be like: http://cnc.wikia.com/wiki/ORCA_Assault_Craft . Please do not take this question to seriously, I am just an ordinary knexer and so i'm not going to do anything with this. But I was just wondering...

Can a vacuum balloon be built with current material technologies? Answered

A balloon's bouyancy (lifting force) is a function of how much air it displaces. Today's balloons use hot air, hydrogen, helium and other lighter than air gases for lift. In 1670 Franceso de Lana, an italian monk, proposed the use of a vacuum. One major problem is how to make the structure light enough to support a vacuum without collapsing in on itself due to the outside pressure.

FAA Ruling ends FPV and will destroy RC Model Aircraft industry is USA

Hello, This is a serious matter. Please read and act. Deadline is July 25. Please see this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYs815t4knQ Then please go to this website and read  the document "Interpretation of the Special Rule for Model Aircraft". http://www.regulations.gov/#!docketDetail;D=FAA-2014-0396 To summarize, the FAA has deemed that a sweeping, blanket regulation is necessary to take care of an issue created by a few dumb individuals making bad decisions. Because a very, very small few people who never touched a RC model aircraft before buy a DJI Phantom and decide to fly it over crowded city streets crashing into buildings and and almost hurting people, the larger hobby community is now paying the penalty of those dumb people. Why it matters to me: I just got into the hobby and I am not flying FPV yet. Actually I cannot fly FPV until I get my FCC Ham License. I am following the rules. I do NOT fly over people, cars, streets, buildings. I do not fly over private property other than my own. I DO fly within line of site of my aircraft, under 400 ft, in open fields or isolated locations. I do keep my aircraft in good working order. I am an AMA member, have insurance in case of RC accidents, have my AMA number inscribed on my model. So I do everything within regulations. Most RC modelers and AMA members do. But we all pay the price because some bonehead goes to amazon and buys a ready built aircraft and on the first flight takes it to a crowded school playground and crashes it on someone's car. I want to grow into this hobby and advance to FPV. I do it legally, responsibly, and safely. I use this hobby to freely express myself in a safe, harmless way. this hobby is enjoyable, challenging and has forced me to be innovative. I actually invented something that I want to share in instructables one day. Why it should matter to you: The government is slowly eroding away our rights. This regulation criminalizes a hobby that has been enjoyed by generations. Done responsibly, the hobby is safe, enjoyable, promotes innovation and gives people a way to express themselves. It is also an industry that many people rely on to make a living. The FAA as a government agency, is overstepping their authority and threatening our freedom to conduct ourselves are citizens in a safe manner. under this ruling, a RC model operator does something innovative (it does not have to be FPV related) shares it on instructables, and wins a prize from one of the many GREAT contest in intructables... Guess what, that instructables member is NOW a CRIMINAL. You are not allowed to get any compensation for RC Model hobby. under this ruling, you cannot fly FPV in an isolated forest capturing wonderful video and posting that video on the internet as an expression of your creativity. That my friends is Freedom of Expression being undermined. That video is now incriminating evidence that you broke the law. Even though that video harms no one. Under this ruling, an individual who invents a new RC airplane, mass produces it and sells it to others is a criminal because RC models is only for amateur hobby. Any monetary gain is criminal. So it is criminal for someone to innovate and try to make a living from that innovation. Do not let the government overstep their authority over us citizens. I ask that you respectfully tell the FAA to consider reversing their ruling. Ask them to go not take the easy route of making a over-generalized, sweeping, blanket regulation that impacts everyone in the hobby, past, present and future. instead, have them create regulation that target the the unsafe operators who make poor choices. thank you.
