Glass Tube Alien Thing

Just a thought, but what if you combined this with this and this. I was surfing the internet, and found the "glow crystals", then thought about the instructable on the "mad scientist's light",and wondered about combining them. Later, I read the action figure instructable, and thought that it would be a great addition. I don't have the materials or skills to do that, but I was wondering if someone else was. (maybe make an instructable, and credit me) It would be like a glowing alien experiment from DOOM!!

Moray Eels' Alien-like double jaws

There are times when life imitates art. Then there are times when life imitates science fiction. One of the most famous monsters in film history is the extraterrestrial beast of the Alien series. It slowly opened its glistening fangs to reveal a second set of jaws that shot forward to kill its victims.Scientists have now discovered a fish that does the same thing. If the First Bite Doesn't Do It, the Second One Will at the New York Times.

Grid Alien, a vicious member of the Alien species whose mindless killing is a threat to both Predator and human alike, is sculpted with movie-accurate detail and comes with a custom detailed base. Base joins with the 12" Scar Predator base to form a larger battle scene. Two beautifully sculpted figures which comes from a smoke free, pet free, dust free environment.

To think, these people are real...!

After a careless click on google, I suddenly found myself looking at http://www.alien-ufos.com/Oh, boy! That whole place is so... mad. There are people arguing over the definition of the word "unidentified" (one side was saying you're only allowed to call something a UFO if it is an alien spaceship performing impossible manoeuvres. If it's only a secret government black-ops spaceship, you're not allowed to call it a UFO...)The concept of "evidence" is utterly fruit-loops - one guy was convinced that alien activity was real because he had heard that somebody had written down that somebody else had overheard an astronaut in quarantine mention the fact that Apollo 11 had been "followed by aliens all the way to the Moon".I'm going to bookmark that forum, then every time we get an HHO project posted, or an overunity device, I can go there and see what insane people really act like......!

syfy alien style gel/liquid controller

I wonder how one could build a controller like the aliens use in district 9 and other movies/games. You know the kind im talking about? The one where you put your hands inside of a gel like substance and manipulate the controls. Now maybe were a long way from the actual thing but i would like to make or see made something similar. like maybe a clearish, strong bag that could hold some kind of thick gel. then using displacement of your hands some how be able to "press" buttons. like move index finger up, displacement of gel causes a button/sensor above to be triggered. all while being inside of a clear glowing stylish case... is this possible with todays tech? i think so, but has anyone an idea exactly how to do it? community project maybe??

A sweet Idea for a movie!

Ok, This Idea is either really cool or the dumbest one Ive had yet! What if They made a movie about aliens coming to destroy earth by infecting us with an alien virus that makes us turn into zombies, so the Worlds military makes Super advanced robots to fight them! and because all of the military personnel are fighting aliens The world erupts in mass anarchy and pirates start to sail the sea and attack coastal cities! So chivalrous ninja protect the people from the prates and aliens. But then the Anti-virus the Drug companies makes to stop the virus in the infected mutates and causes certain people to turn into vampires! I think it would be cool but it might also be a bit much! :)

Seedbank = Arctic Bunker

Norway has built a pretty awesome1 seed storage facility over 400 feet under a frozen arctic mountain. Further chilled by air conditioners to reach -0.4F, the seeds should be safe for up to 1000 years. Hooray for biodiversity! From an AP article:The vault will serve as a backup for hundreds of other seed banks worldwide. It has the capacity to store 4.5 million seed samples from around the world and shield them from man-made and natural disasters.Dug into the permafrost of the mountain, it has been built to withstand an earthquake or a nuclear strike. The seeds are packed in silvery foil containers -- as many as 500 in each sample -- and placed on blue and orange metal shelves inside three 32-foot-by-88-foot storage chambers. Each vault can hold 1.5 million sample packages of all types of crop seeds, from carrots to wheat.1Did you see Alien vs. Predator? Remember the big Antarctic bunker/pyramid? The Norwegians clearly did too.

is this a real meteorite?

I found this out in the desert on one of my visits to arizona from vegas. I found this rock during thanksgiving weekend where my dad and I park at his little ranch which is very clean, no rocks at all. we spent the night at kingman for thanksgiving and on our way back to vegas we stop at our little ranch to drop some stuff off when we park I got out and found this rock in a small crater in the dirt. obviously to my surprise I think its a space rock. its heavy for its size and a little larger than a golf ball you'll see the picture. so yeah theres my back ground story of it so let me know what it is. thanks!

How Do I make an Alien arm like wikus's in District-9 in time for haloween?

I wanted to see district-9 since May when I saw one of the super creepy propaganda flavored commercials and became rabid with curiosity. I tried to sneak in (twice!). I finally saw it today. I loved it. Now, my heart is set on making an alien arm like Wikus's for Halloween. If I had seen the movie earlier, I would probably build the whole alien costume, but as things are I am a little short on time. I'll have to go for the genetic-recombinant-halfway-through-transformation look. I won't be going as Wikus specifically(I am female, so that wouldn't work anyway), so the arm & claw have to be all the more recognizable as district-9 alien stuff.  (I suppose I could bring a can of cat food along, but that feels like a badly contrived substitute for doing things right.). There are no reference pictures for me or anybody; because of  sony's secretive media campaign there are hardly any pictured of the aliens to be found, and I have yet to find one of Wikus in which his arm is visible. My dad says I should use paper-mache to make the thing, but I've had bad luck with the stuff in the past. I was thinking of using plastic on foam base, but that seems rather inefficient. the only other option that comes to mind is plaster, but I would have to make all the molds myself which would be quite a pain. any suggestions? I sure could use some.

3D soldiers and aliens on your desktop ! - Augmented Reality

So for the past few weeks augmented reality has been in the news and all over the blogs quite a bit, with smart-phones getting more powerful augmented reality has become feasible.I get really excited about this kind of stuff, its geeky, techy and i love it.So obviously i really wanted to try this new "Augmented Reality" software,There are various applications for iPhones and Android phones but i have a blackberry with no internet so no joy for me there. There are quite a few different pieces of software for both Mac and PC But i don't have the latest Operating system for my mac so none of it worked for me.So then i started looking for online augmented reality, something where i wouldn't have to download an application. Finally i found a promotional website for the new movie "District 9" The AR (augmented reality) was on the website and you dont have to download anything to use it.All you have to do is print a marker and hold it in front of your webcam. This is not the best AR software and the applications you download run smoother, faster and have more features, but it is a nifty piece of of web design and marketing that will give you a taste of augmented reality. The first time the little 3d soldier pops onto your screen you will be amazed. The website can be found hereMulti-National United TrainingAnd you can download and then print the marker from that website. This is a video demonstrating how to set it up, and a demo of the AR if you dont want to try it yourself. Thanks for reading, Leave a comment saying what you think about augmented reality and how you would like to use it !

Sci-Fi Gardening

I read an article on Dave's Garden a year ago on plants with Star Trek names, and I just adore the idea of having a science fiction themed garden.  Looking through some more plants, I've come across even more plants that would fit within a sci-fi/outer space theme. Coleus: Darth Vader Saturn Saturn's Rings Solar Flare Solar Shadow Solar Sunrise Vulcan Daylily: Alien Alien Contact Alien Encounter Alien Escape Pod Alien Invader Alien Landing Alien Skin Alien's Eye Android Android Dreams Andromeda Asteroid Astral Voyager Beam Me Up Beam Me Up, Scotty Ben Kirk Big Dipper Black Hole Borg Technology Cloaking Device First Officer's Log Galaxy Quest Klatuu Barata Nictu Life on Bajor Notify Ground Crew Photon Torpedo Romulan Deflector Spock's Ears Vulcan Logic Hosta:   Captain Kirk Enterprise Foxfire X Philes (just for fun) Galaxy Galaxy Light Gamma Ray Kiwi Milky Way Little Dipper Lunar Eclipse Lunar Orbit Lunar Sea Outer Space Saturn Starship Striker Super Nova Venus Voyager Vulcan These lists are not complete.  I looked through 5,320 daylily names out of 38,449 on Dave's Garden and then filled in with some names from the article, and I'm sure there are more genuses with sci-fi plants.  The reason why there are so many hostas, daylilies, and coleuses is because they're relatively easy to hybridize and propagate.  I started looking through African violets, but half-way through I was pretty sure I wouldn't find any.  I wouldn't be surprised if there were some more in the Liliaceae family such as with tulips, but phew, that's a lot of plants. Looking through some of the names, it would be relatively easy to do a Lord of the Rings or fantasy-themed garden.  I even found hostas called "Dot Com" and "Website".  Hybridizers certainly get creative when it comes to names.  I think I'll send my brother-in-law a hosta called "Twisted Sister". The image is of a basket plant I have.  No neat name, but it looks kinda sci-fi in the picture.

Can I get/make a functional one of these guns?

Here is a gun that i found from some site, it doesn't actually exist, but is it possible to make one of these that fires 6mm bbs or any air gun rounds ( maybe even crossbow bolts if it helps)? The main pistol grip is a lot like that of a walther ppk and it does have a retractable stock like that of a mp5 ( but this isn't a needed feature either)

Wikus drags himself away from the leader of the mercenaries, but is unavoidably caught. Just before the trigger is pulled, four aliens burst out of the surrounding slums and rips apart Wikus's attackers. The film concludes with another series of interviews and news broadcasts, showing the humans view on the events that unfolded. An interview with Wikus' wife reveals a small metal rose was left on her doorstep (one of Wikus' trademarks, he strongly believed a gift is worth more if it was made personally). She concludes it couldn't possibly be Wikus, no one has heard from him since he was last seen crawling from the mangled battle suit. An alien is then seen standing in a junk yard inside District 9 fashioning a small metal rose out of scrap metal, implying that Wikus is alive, his transformation from human to alien is complete, and is still awaiting Christopher's promised return. just tell me what you think about the ending

Video Game Ideas Wanted

A couple of friends and I are planning on making our own Video Game. I thought it would be cool to ask others for ideas. Our game is a mixed genre (we are attempting to put as many game types into one as possible, but still keeping it somewhat reasonable) sci fi game based a couple hundred years into the future. Humans have colonized mars, but their is a war between the two planetary alliances. Meanwhile there is an underground organization that controls everything going on in human society. They prepare for the return of the true martian race who left behind some ancient relics which were discovered and kept a secret. The main character is a super soldier created by the underground society. You unite the human race and fight against the aliens. We have story ideas but would like to hear ideas from other people. All suggestions are welcome. Suggestions could include, but are not limited to: Characters Events Weapons Technology Genre types Plot ideas and twists Side missions One other thing is that we were thinking that the aliens could be human based, and be like a sub-species of humans. Yes or No? Any other ideas are welcome. Thanks to all who help.

I don't really like the videos, but when these metacafe people carpet bomb the front page with a dozen videos, I want to punch them in the groin. So, nope, never, ever gonna look at another video again, don't care if you invented a space drive, and brought back a freaking green skinned alien babe with two navels, not gonna watch it. That's all, I feel better.

Changing the Natural Laws for Science Fiction

Ok, so there's a new show in the U.S. called Revolution. I haven't watched it, but it seems the premise is a world where all electronics suddenly stopped working. No iPhones, no lights, no vibrobots. nothing. My question is, what possible explanation could they have for this? A world where electrons won't flow doesn't make sense to me. They still have lightning. They still have fire. Their brains work. Does anybody know if there is any science behind this? What could stop electricity from working in all technology and still allow the natural functioning of electrical processes in nature? I refuse to watch the show because I'm pretty sure they will never answer this question, or worse, they will blame it on aliens.

Contest Rejection

I tried to enter my instructable for Altair's Sword in the Think Geek Sci-Fi contest and it got rejected. No reason was given and I was just told to check the entry rules, but I see nothing that would disqualify my instructable. Yes it's a sword, but it's from a game that is a sci-fi game about a guy who gets in a futuristic machine that uses his DNA to allow him to relive his ancestor's lives in the hope of figuring out where a mysterious alien artifact is to keep a secret society from taking over the world. They even feature several Assassin's Creed items on Think Geek, including a latex tomahawk. Could anyone let me know why it was rejected?

Pro Psychology

Well, I spent some time writing a long persuasive post on this topic, but it was eaten somewhere between edit and preview so this is the gist. 1 Pro accounts are deemed necessary but cause conflict in the community 2 'Ibles is alienating some of its membership that could be otherwise utilised. 3 'Ibles is following good logical marketing practice, but is conflicting with illogical human nature 4 Marketing Psychology is good stuff for a variety of reasons. 5 If a specialist doesn't fit the budget, there are many easy to read and excellently written books on the subject. 6 Marketing psychology is awesome for situations like this. Get marketing psychology. Hope this helps. So, imagine that, but with more examples and evidence and you being even more convinced than you are now that it is a good idea.

The documents, which can be downloaded from the National Archives website, cover the period from 1978 to 1987. They include accounts of strange lights in the sky and unexplained objects being spotted by the public, armed forces and police officers. One man explained in great detail his "physical and psychic contact" with green aliens since he was a child. The writer said that one of them, called Algar, was killed in 1981 by another race of beings as he was about to make contact with the UK government. (More) Fictitious Planet Details.

You may have seen my last question (I'm not counting on it), but if you haven't, I should tell you that I am creating a planet that can support life. I am creating an insect-like creature that flies and swims via silent propulsion. Could an animal develop a method of that propulsion? I am thinking of a couple of methods in particular. It could be MHD- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetohydrodynamic_drive It could be like the Dyson fan-http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/gadgets/home/dyson-bladeless-fan.htm  I have added my sketch and a scale of the animals, as well as additional information about their behavior. I may have some terms wrong (Like hive-mind), so if I do, please .tell me so I can correct that.
