What is the max volume and size (assuming max width of 34" and height of 14") cube you can make with a 4' by 8' board? Answered

I'm trying to design a sobwoofer box. I have a single sheet of plywood (and some smaller wood for a skeletal structure) and want to utilize as much of the wood as I can. By my estimate a single sheet cannot create enough volume for my speakers (believed to need 0.6 cu/ft to 1.25 cu/ft according to Alpine but online sub box calculators say it should be 7.9 cu/ft.

My left side of my speaker system won't work and I dont know what is wrong? Answered

Well a couple weeks ago I was driving. Before that I put in a Alpine 2-way speaker in the front left door of my car. I drove one day and I think it came loose and popped out. I was parked but had the car on and opened up the door. I closed it and all noise cut out. Seconds after I smelled a burnt smell. I assumed I fried my speaker so I left everything alone for a couple days. I thought the speaker got some water on it or touched another metal surface. But I cannot tell what happened. So then I got some info of what I should do and I took out my aftermarket radio, replaced the fuse, and reset it. So now only my 3x9 Kenwood speaker on the right in the back works. I tested my Alpine 2-way speaker on each side of my car and it worked, but only on the right side. So all my speakers work, but wont work on the left side for some reason. I was hoping to find out what happened because I have no clue if I should go in and replace wires. I made sure that everything is connected and it is. I think I blew the connection on the left side but I dont know. I have a 96 Honda accord. If anyone can give me feedback, please do so!

Help with service/repair manuals

Anyone got any idea where I could find free service manuals on the net? I'm trying to repair my car audio system (Alpine CDA 7998R) but im stuck without much information. If anyone could help, what I'm looking at is a green pcb with D301-313 written on it, and it has a part named Q701 which looks like a very small ic with three legs at the bottom, and one at top, its surface mount and is blown up. It also has a delta sign on it with some design within, I cant read the rest of it cause its blown. Please help anyone, if you can... Whatever you may tell....

I need help with subwoofer box designs!!!

I've got this new alpine (well not new, but it still works) 12 inch subwoofer. The box it's in was probably alright for in the trunk of the car, but I'm planning on using it inside, as my sub just blew. Here's the size demensions of it: 15" wide, 16" high, and 13" deep. There's a hole about 3" x 2 1/4" in the back for the wire to come out. I was planning on using the internal amplifier from the blown subwoofer, in this box, but I need to cut a hole to fit the amplifier in. It sounds really punchy, but for a 200 watt subwoofer (that's rms) it doesn't shake my floor at all because it's basically a sealed box, the sub comes out the front, should I cut a hole in the front or side for a port? What if I used the pipe out of the blow subwoofer box, or is it specifically tuned for the 8" that was in there before? Thanks for any help.

Can the male end of an iPod dock connector be adapted or spliced to take in plain 3.5mm audio input? Answered

I'm aware that this might not work on the technical level but I'm willing to try it. I've got a car stereo that I've used for about 8 years and it works fine. It uses a proprietary cable (Alpine), kind of like this (http://ak.buy.com/PI/0/350/203086658.jpg). It plugs into my iPod that closes up in the glove compartment and then it allows me to select artists and change tracks through the knob / buttons on the face. Since this stereo deck doesn't have any other inputs, I was wondering if I could build a cable to accept audio coming out of my cell phone or any other device. I know that the 30-pin iPod dock connector has various lines for power, data, audio, etc. and I was wondering if anyone has experience with this. Maybe I could split the wire in half or get an adaptor with a female iPod plug to a male 3.5mm adaptor. I've tried Googling these things but it's too hard to describe what I want in keywords.

box(es) for sub(s)?? How many? What size? Here's some measurements.

So... Got some subs I had lying around: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500SWE1042/Alpine-SWE-1042.html?tp=111&tab;=features_and_specs I am trying to figure out if I should vent (I don't think I should from research) and if I can do them in a single box or if it's better to put them each in a box. I also haven't found out if I should JUST double the volume for having both in one box or if it should be a different amount. The suggested volume I've calculated is 4.1 cu ft (but that seems a bit huge).       V(as) 33 liters   |    Q(ts) 0.66    |    10 Inch The speakers will be in series, I don't know if this affects whether or not I can put them in a single box. How much does the shape of the box matter? Can I make a rectangular cube and put the speakers at either end or do they need to be on the same side? When it comes to fill would it be better to use something fluffy that takes up a large amount of space like very fluffed out cotton or is carpet always the better way to go? I cannot find how much fill I SHOULD use. I have found suggestions for just carpet on the back wall and some for all sides wherever you can and even two people suggested to fill it to about 80% (though it did not say what with). Any questions?

What may I do with my old computer parts and electronics?

I have (5) CD-ROM drives, (3) 3/5" Diskette drives, (1) Zip 100 drive, (8) Video cards, some power supplies, (1) PC Mini tower PC case, an Alpine multi-disc changer. I have a bit of random stuff around as well. If I could do something like make a type of KVM or something I'd like that, but if I may do anything at all just to recycle things items (i.e. "Be Green") I'd really like that. I'm not sure what the metal is on PCB, I've been told that it's gold. I get a lot of computer stuff for free, as I'll take even junk. I try to recycle as much of it as I may. I'm fairly new to this part however. I've read that the fumes are rather hazardous from the PCB. Anyway, if you are able to think anything, please let me know. I haven't solder/desolder anything really, so that part will all be hit and miss. I figure it won't be that hard, and I learn rather quick as is. If I am able to save capacitors and such I will. I have a cheap multimeter, which I purchase from Harbor Freight Tools. So I will be able to Google and do some reading to find out how to test if anything has juice to it and the polarity. I stumble upon this site, and after reading just a little have been amazed by others. Hats-off to the vast majority of you! If you have any suggestions, please don't hesitate. Thank you. PS - I may be able to get a video around of most of it later.

The best car ad ever made

A family member sent me this ad that was posted on craigslist, while it was the most explicit ad I've ever seen, I'd prefer this over any normal ad. Enjoy those who feel comfortable reading this. DISCLAIMER:  I bleeped (****) out any explicit words...... Though I could have missed s-something.  And explicit's definition is different between people Side note: If anyone thinks this is a tad (or more than a tad) over the top, PM me or reply saying so. I'll delete it. - - - If you think you'll be offended by this ad... DON'T READ IT.  - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - POS 1994 Honda Civic LX for sale - $600 (Marietta, GA) Date: 2010-07-11, 4:49PM EDT Reply to: sale-63pgj-1837513434@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] That's right, you can own a piece of shi... history right now for only $600. You may wonder why I didn't post a picture and that's because with a car this crappy, a photo is not needed. Just imagine the worst possible car and then picture a camel taking a dump in the trunk and you'll have a close approximation. You don't need to worry about me lying... it really is a POS. There is no risk of you getting over here and finding out it's really a gorgeous gem worth thousands... that doesn't happen...ever. But if for some reason that's actually happened to you, then you are acquainted with a crazy cosmic karma that has never thought to even piss in my face. I almost had a date on PlentyofFish and you know what happened? The f***ing AC died. For two years while I was not dating, it worked fine. The day after I get digits, the AC craps out. The car also has a weird hesitation problem that was not fixed even when I replaced the fuel filter. What could cause all of these things? Satan in the drive train...that's right... it's rare, but it happens to guys like me. This car is actually demon-possessed so you can forget about any sort of easy fix. Jesus said you need faith to cast out demons like this and believe me there are only two people on the planet that have that sort of faith. One guy lives in a cave in India and the other guy is dead. And you can forget about the guy in the cave helping you because, if you can find him, he's just going to tell you how physical setbacks are really spiritual blessings...blah blah blah...yada yada yada. Exactly. Don't expect sympathy from any motherf***er that sits around in his underwear in a cave. Other problems with this car include busted boots on the tie-rod ends, busted wheel hub boots, broken AC, leaking power steering system, ABS light always on, check-engine light comes on occasionally, driver window sometimes comes off the track, paint has permanent dirt in it (yes, it's f***ing permanent...you can't scrub it out with anything less than sandpaper or some highly explosive chemical that causes cancer in 49 states and erectile dysfunction in the 50th.) The car does drive, but that's about all it's good for. Good luck getting it to pass emissions. I've never tried as it's still registered in Clarke County. If you want to date, this car is probably not for you. On a positive note though, I can assure you no one has ever had sex in it. It would take a miracle to get a girl to even sit in this car, much less take her clothes off in it. Other possible uses for this car included entertainment at frat parties. You could charge people $5 a swing with a baseball bat, although you still probably wouldn't recover your investment. You might be able to sell it to the Mythbusters and get the to test the myth, "Is it possible that a car could really be this s***ty?" Adam Savage and Kari Byron will have a field day and close it off with "Myth f***ing confirmed" and a side comment from Kari about how whatever d*****bag use to own it must have never been laid. There are some positives like a beautiful Lumar 32% tint job, keyless entry with remote trunk release, an Alpine CD Player, and Pioneer speakers in the door. So at worst, you can sit in your driveway and listen to music with a bottle of Jergens and a picture of Eliza Dushku. I really wouldn't recommend taking it on the road until you replace the tie-rod ends. You might crash into a bus full of nuns and then the Pope will reign motherf***ing hail fire down on your betrodden a** with more fury than the inquisition because you actually decided to drive and be seen in such an amazing POS, killing 20 of his lovely Sisters. One other thing you might use this car would be pushing it off a cliff. If you've ever wanted to see what it's like first hand for a car to fall hundreds of feet and smash against rock, then here's your chance. Although don't be surprised if this demon-possessed sleigh from hell manages to f*** up your good time even in that bold scenario. I don't know how it would, but it would probably figure out a way. If there are any parents out there reading this, don't let your children fall into the situation I'm in. I would never have ended up with this car if I had pursued a real career. But instead I majored in math where the best job I can find now is up in Portland with a bunch of bran muffin eating hippies, jerking off Moose for 75 cents a smile for some wildlife conservation sperm bank. Let your kids do something with good with their future, like wait tables at Denny's. Oh yeah... it's white, 4 doors, and automatic. Whooptie-f***in-do!
