Making an amphibious vehicle, but then had a problem...

After watching that one episode of BBC's car show "Top Gear", the one where they do their first attempt at amphibious cars, I had a design idea for one. But after thinking about it for some time, my design brought up some classification questions. 1. In the US, any vehicle with less than 4 wheels is considered to be a motorcycle. If the vehicle I have in mind operates like a car, but has the classification of a motorcycle, AND it can operate as a boat, would it be legally appropriate to label it as an amphibious motorbike or an amphibious car? 2. Taking hydrodynamics, weights and buoyancy into account, the vehicle design so far could hold 2-3 people. If it was two, then the seats would be arranged vertically. If it was 3, then they would be arranged as a triangle. So if it was a three seater, would it be better to have two at the front or at the back? That's all the questions i can think of right now.

thinking about building amphibious electric trike?

Hello everybody, I was thinking the other day about converting my cheap-a$$ chinese trike to be electric and amphibious... the idea being to have a floor of metal plate and metal plates all around so that it could float, and perhaps foldable outriggers... gas pedal, motorcycle wheels. 2 motors for the wheels, and another to power the prop. what do you guys think of the idea? would it work? thanks!

I need your suggestions for my upcoming iBle!!!

I was deciding on whether to let y'all know what I'm working on, and since I don't know much in the area I'm working in, I decided it would be best.I am working on an amphibious bicycle that can operate efficiently on land and water. There are just a few on the Interweb, and they are for sell at high prices ($500 bucks at least.)I am trying to do this with as little cost and as much recycled materials as possible. So far, I've decided that:My propulsion mechanism either has to be a prop like your average boat, or a paddlewheel. Both would be powered by my back wheel.I am considering wooden pontoons filled with 2 liter bottles or gallon milk jugs, reminiscent of this iBle.I want to stay as high as possible, but I want to be able to go straight from land to water and vice versa. Basically, no assembly required to change terrain. If anybody has any ideas at all, please let me know! Thanks much,Bran!

remote control cars turned into remote control boats/ amphibious vehicle

I was thinking since i had 3 rc cars lying around a 2002 nissan silvia an orange hummer and a white escalade pretty big and i dnt think i have the remotes for any of them i was wondering if i could turn them into boats or amphibious vehicles  like would i remove  the shell of the car just leaving like the wheels and all the mechanical/ electrical components  intact then moving them into different  shells so they looked like boats and replacing the wheels with something else rotors or propelers or paddles idk if i can move the parts around like move the wheels to be located at different parts or how would i go about doing that and also is it possible to buy a new controllers and program it to the cars. i will try to get pictures up asap all help is greatly appreciated

remote control vehicle regulations (not drones, rather cars and boats) Answered

Hey everyone ! I'm designing an amphibious rc vehicle thats a wee bit bigger then most. I want to use mostly bike parts, a 500W drive motor and a 100W trolling motor.  Max out at 30kmh (18Mph)  not sure of the final weight it will not be used on a public road / highway  but will be used on public lakes. I've been trying to consult google but it's overwhelmed by drone regulations and I can't find anything useful. Any thoughts or links with some info? I live in british columbia, canada

CLOVERFIELD!

Ok so I've been doing research on the movie cloverfield and everyone wants to know what the monster is, so far I have seen the two biggest possibilities as Slusho the whale or Cthulhu. The whale supposedly carries these lice that are either huge and ravage the city, or get inside people and kill them, there are screen caps of people in hazmat suits which may have to do with this. JJ abrams also had a character in lost i believe wearing a slusho shirt, and also had a project called slusho and cheese. And with cthulhu they talk about the government knowing that it is coming, and there is a small video clip where you see a monster that might be cthulhu. The monster is supposedly amphibious and can swim as seen in the water on the poster. the movie comes out on 1-18-08, what do you guys think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dNWDX9Kzc4&feature;=related (the video button wasn't working for me sorry)

The best Christmas present ever.

The crew of HMS Ocean found out that they would be back in port after over seven months at sea. This is their reaction. From the video's description: After lots of time away last year (214 days) -- planned for 7 week deployment exercise with other nations Diverted to Libya and further operations Back 9 Dec after 7½ months away - 225 days with 176 at sea 400 people onboard (at peak during the amphibious exercises just under 900 onboard but approx 650 during Op Ellamy) Steamed just over 40,000 miles Burned approx 6,000 tonnes of fuel Operated 16 different type of aircraft off the deck Realities of deploying: 15 babies born while the ship has been away (fathers did get home to see mum and baby) 5 people were sent home so they didn't miss their own weddings. 1 sailor whose son's third birthday is on homecoming. Family meeting ship Ships company have missed: Summer holidays. Children's exam results Children finishing school and starting university The Padre missed his daughter's graduation. The ship's company made a Christmas DVD when they heard they would be home for Christmas. Happy Christmas, folks.

Tiltrotor RC/UAV

So I posted this as a question a day ago, but I thought I might get a better discussion going here. The simplified version is that a friend and I are looking at designing a tiltrotor UAV or RC vehicle. As we are college students we don't have the disposable income that some people do, so we'll probably stick to a small RC vehicle just for the hell of it. Anyway, some ideas we've had for the project: Hardware: Folding for storage (see this link for reference: http://sportscarforums.com/gallery/data/748/v22_folded.jpg ) Coaxial rotor blades (unsure if this will have any affect during STOL but should help with VTOL Ducted Fan (a standard ducted tail rotor to provide the torque to keep the craft from rotating with the blades) Separate Batteries (dedicated batteries per each rotor, failing that, one large one for all systems) Amphibious Software: Auto-Hover (depending on the approach, I may be able to write a script to maintain a certain motor power level) Auto-Pilot (just basic stuff, like flying patterns and such, perhaps make it able to land itself when in VTOL) Additional: (totally unnecessary but cool nonetheless) Micro-Camera Laser-Directional Microphone Laser Range Finder So anyone have any suggestions? We were hoping to make this a reasonable size, as in the length of the fuselage being anywhere around 3 ft
