I just found similar questions further down. I want the old tab back. Sorry, I fear change, one of my many character flaws.

Is there some way to find specific answers? Whenever I put a search in (e.g. "gears"), it only comes up with results in the Instructables category. And I can't find any dialog boxes to change the search category to "Answers". It just seems to me that a system as awesome as the "Answers" section is needs accessibility to get the full potential out of it. (It's forgivable at this point because it's still new).

Check out our new Instructables Answers! Have questions about how to build or make something, where to get tools or materials, or about DIY and life in general? Me too. To get answers to all of our questions, we've put together an answers section on Instructables. Ask a question, and help answer questions from the community. Then, choose the best answer to help others with the same question. You can ask a question from almost any page on the site. Look for the blue answers box, and type in your question -- you don't even need to create an account or log in. Upload images to help explain your question.Answers is a work in progress, and while we have many of the key elements ready for you to test, there are a few obvious things we're not quite finished building, but will be up as soon as possible. Upcoming features include:Your questions on your "You" pageIndication of the number of answers and Best Answers for users replying to your questionsMore tips for asking good questionsAbility for the community to vote on a Best Answer to a questionLet us know how you like it, and how it's working. If you come across a bug, please submit as much information as you can to our bugs forum section. Update: Here are some tricks to see the Questions with the most Answers, and the most recent Answers: Instructables Answers Tricks - Sort by number of answers and most recent answers.

I'm not positive I'm entirely right on this, so if I'm wrong, don't jump down my throat. Thanks. When you reply to someone (I usually do something like, "Thanks,") on a question you've asked, it counts that comment as an answer to go towards your Best Answer Percentage. I don't think this is fair because: 1.) There is no way you can select your answer as a Best Answer (I would never do this, though), and 2.) It goes towards your Best Answer Percentage. In addition to routinely submitting to instructables, I also try to improve my stats (total views, comments, subscribers, ect.). So, my Best Answer Percentage (in addition to many other's %, I assume) has gone down because our answers on our own questions count towards the Best Answer Percentage. Instructables staff, if you could change this, I would be very appreciative. Thanks!

Would it be possible to change the text that appears in the question box?If it was changed to something like "Can't find what you want with a search? Then don't be shy, ask your question here", then maybe we would have less of things like this.Just a thought.

Hi all. Sorry if this has already come up (can't imagine that it hasn't), but I didn't find it anywhere so here goes: Who do we need to bribe/threaten/date to get some stickies in Answers for questions like "How do I figure out what resistor to use for my LED" and "How can I hook up a TV to my computer" and "How can I get my Arduino to do an IF statement" and sundry other questions that get asked at least twice a week? I enjoy helping answer questions for people, but I get a little tired of typing the same thing over and over. I can only imagine how burned out the electronics gurus among us must be. Maybe if there were stickies for these types of FAQ on the Answers page people could get the basics on their own, and the quality of the questions might improve? Also, I think a brilliant idea for a Pro feature would be an additional button that just automagically takes the text of a question, runs it through Google and posts a link to the search results, all in one fell swoop. But maybe that's just me....

On the answers screen, when I choose any question, it takes me to ...what looks like a script generated listing of questions, showing the title of what I clicked on as a link - not the question page like it should. If I go back and choose a different one - I get the same listing page showing the title of the one I already clicked, and a second line with the new listing. Baffling! Edit: Wednesday June 10 - it's back up and running! Thanks

When you try to view a page in the Answers section it takes you to a page with a javax servlet exception. Looks like someone forgot to define a field and it broke the query engine ("Caused by: org.apache.solr.common.SolrException: undefined field Whats"). The error displays as follows: Please excuse me, that was very impolite! - javax.servlet.ServletException: solr Ex ! Exception org.apache.solr.client.solrj.SolrServerException: Error executing query at org.apache.solr.client.solrj.request.QueryRequest.process(QueryRequest.java:95) at org.apache.solr.client.solrj.SolrServer.query(SolrServer.java:118) at com.instructables.solr.SolrSearchServlet.doGet(SolrSearchServlet.java:529) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:115) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:92) at com.caucho.server.dispatch.ServletFilterChain.doFilter(ServletFilterChain.java:106) at com.caucho.filters.GzipFilter.doFilter(GzipFilter.java:208) at com.instructables.filter.FilterWrapperFilter.doFilter(FilterWrapperFilter.java:47) at com.caucho.server.dispatch.FilterFilterChain.doFilter(FilterFilterChain.java:70) at com.instructables.filter.HibernateSessionRequestFilter.doFilter(HibernateSessionRequestFilter.java:48) at com.caucho.server.dispatch.FilterFilterChain.doFilter(FilterFilterChain.java:70) at com.instructables.filter.TemporaryProFilter.doFilter(TemporaryProFilter.java:77) at com.caucho.server.dispatch.FilterFilterChain.doFilter(FilterFilterChain.java:70) at com.instructables.filter.SecurityFilter.doFilter(SecurityFilter.java:212) at com.caucho.server.dispatch.FilterFilterChain.doFilter(FilterFilterChain.java:70) at com.instructables.filter.SetupFilter.doFilter(SetupFilter.java:68) at com.caucho.server.dispatch.FilterFilterChain.doFilter(FilterFilterChain.java:70) at com.caucho.server.webapp.WebAppFilterChain.doFilter(WebAppFilterChain.java:173) at com.caucho.server.dispatch.ServletInvocation.service(ServletInvocation.java:229) at com.caucho.server.http.HttpRequest.handleRequest(HttpRequest.java:274) at com.caucho.server.port.TcpConnection.run(TcpConnection.java:514) at com.caucho.util.ThreadPool.runTasks(ThreadPool.java:527) at com.caucho.util.ThreadPool.run(ThreadPool.java:449) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:595) Caused by: org.apache.solr.common.SolrException: undefined field Whats ... Revised The new format on a members page gives a bare hint of Best Answers. There are some of us who enjoy helping others and keep bragging score in exchange. That germinated a thought at least one considered worthy of the forum. Why not make it a soft-switch the user can activate by them for their page ? Like that age thing we lie about..... A

We're still working to make answers better, and additional functionality is on the way. Something that bugs me is if I make a comment directed to a specific answer if someone else comments to the same answer there comment separates my comment and now it looks like my comment is meant for the other comment and makes no sense. I wish they stayed in the order that they were written.

I was doing a regular check of what coudal were linking and I found this. Spending a lot of time looking at Instructables Answers I'm both amused and interested, (and some other things...): www.yahooanswerfail.com/page/3/ E.g. ive heard a lot about this thing called autism. apparently it's like a special ability some people hav that makes you rly good at card games and stuff. how do i become autistic so i can win at casinos?! 31 - Do midgets have night vision? Posted in Pro because some questions are on the adult-side. It's scary in places, while mostly "sad". The point of this post is to remind those of us who look at Answers that it's pretty good around here. L

I'm not blind, but I sure can be clueless at times, but I can't find any decent link to the Answers: pages on the home page. I like helping people by giving (hopefully) constructive responses to their questions. But I have the darndest time trying to get there. Just put a link in the top of page banner... Please!

I keep browsing through Answers, and i have noticed that alot of times, the person who asks the question never really selects a best answer, and sometimes it's because alot of the answers are similar. Is there a way for users to rate on another's answers, selecting a best answer by vote?

I was surfing Instructables as a "non-member" on our new laptop today, which doesn't have many passwords installed. The Answers side bar had a older question I'd previously responded to, so I followed the link...RE: this Answer thread:https://www.instructables.com/answers/i_want_to_use_the_same_preamp_circuit_of_the_65_f/My response with the schematic links was not present (added two or three days ago.) Several browser refreshes didn't matter. But it's certainly still visible on my normal computer. I'm drafting this bug report there...Both computers are running Firefox 3.0.6. I went back and checked the laptop a second time (was shut down between) and disabled Adblock Plus (I don't ible ads on my main PC.) But no dice, still doesn't display.

This morning, I tried to flag a SPAM Question (https://www.instructables.com/answers/who-dare-to-click-this/), but clicking on the FLAG link in the box did not do anything: no pop-up menu, just the URL changed to have "#" at the end. I checked with a couple of other posted Questions, and they all behave the same way, so it's something is the way the page is being generated. This is on FF on MacOSX. I did clear cache, cookies, etc. (without having the individual Question page loaded), and saw the same effect afterward. Was there an unannounced update overnight?

OS: Win 7 Browser: Firefox Location: Answers sub-forum Bug: Logins don't "take" on the Answers forum. It accepts the credentials but doesn't actually login. This is an issue across the site but everywhere else refreshing solves it. Even getting logged in elsewhere and then navigating back to the Answers forum does not work although if I leave again for another part of the site I'm still logged in there. Others are posting answers so clearly this is only effecting a subset of the user base, or just me.

I am looking for a machine that will allow people to call a telephone number that would be automatically answered and relayed to a louspeaker so that the call can be heard "out loud". This planned as an analogue system but I am open to everything. The calls should be limited to 3 minutes. alternative: an app that would allow me to answer my calls automatically (hands-off) and listen to the callers without touching the phone. The calls should be limited to 3 minutes. This is project that is happening in mid-August 2013 in Palm Springs Ca. Usually in Europe I use a Tiptel 540 SD but these dont seem available in the US. Any tips or help are welcome. see web link http://www.benoitmaubrey.com/?p=1963 Yours electronically B. Maubrey

I'm new to instructables and just getting the hang of things. I'm not sure I really get the difference between what should go on the forum and what should be posed as a question. Here's my forum post, but after I did it I thought it maybe should have been a question... Thanks https://www.instructables.com/community/Christmas-2009-inspiration/
