How would i test the explosive pressure of an aerosol?

Im trying to test how many pounds per square inch (psi) i can get out of axe body spray when i light it on fire. I was thinking a piston thing, but i dont really know how it should be

Question by thenewdoctorwho

when making some sort of "flame thrower" using an aerosol and lighting it, is there really such thing as suck back?

I dont see how flame would go through such a small opening, have air to fuel itself, build up pressure, and make it thick metl can explode. Even if it is possible itdoesnt seem easy. Cause axe cans and bugspray has some thick metal. Please respond

What is this hammer axe wedge tool? Answered

It's real old, as you can see the head of it is mushroomed from use. On the bottom it says "Champion tool co. Meadville, Pa" From googling I believe Champion tool company turned into Channellock. I thought it may have something to do with farrying, which is horshoeing, but it looks like its been used pretty hard as a wedge. It has a weird skinny handle. It's definitely a cast piece. I couldnt seem to find any other examples of this particular Champion tool co. 'wedge hammer'. Not on ebay nor google. Just wondering if someone would have any more info about it or possibly know the value of it.

Hello, I am new here and only registered to get access to a CNC build which I really like. Now m questions is, as I look at so many of the builds, what defines the axis? Some use Z to go up and down, others mentioned it being the Y-axis, even saw a few saying X. Is it up to the builder or up to the software? Kind regards, Red

Do Tritton AX PROS still have surround when plugged into analog(on Xbox 360)?

Hello, I've been looking into buying a better pair of headphones to replace my dying X11s, and came across the Tritton AX PROS(the ones for consoles, not the cheaper PC/Mac only ones). Dad and I went over all the stuff today, and we've run into a problem: The only open ports on my Xbox 360 HDMI dongle are analog. Before you say "well, just unplug the optical," those optical cables are FRAGILE. Like, you bump 'em the wrong way or plug in/take out the wrong way, you've got a broken cable. And I can't afford to do that sort of thing, because if it breaks, then Rock Band(which I play through our surround sound system) is pretty much done for. I was wondering if you can do surround sound through the analog(I know you normally can't), because of the little box thing it comes with. Best answer gets a cookie and subscription. Also, I don't want speculation, I want fact. how to use a Toshiba motor LSM-AX-7 / RG1-1960?

I have been harvesting parts from old printers, hard drives, CD's etc for re-use in projects. One of the items from an old HP Laserjet II printer is the above motor. It spins a mirror reflecting the laser. The assembly is a board plus motor. It is a BLDC motor I believe with 6 pairs of windings. Are there any articles/info. on the wiring of this and can it be re-used successfully. Thanks in advance Ted

Statics Problem Help? Answered

I need help with this statics question, because it seems easy enough but I know I am not doing something correctly.  Look at the picture and use it along with the question, which says; Four forces and a couple act on the beam. The vector sum of the forces is zero, and the sum of the moments about the left end of the beam is zero. What are the forces Ax, Ay, and B? Ax is of no importance, it can be anything because it does not affect the moment because it line of action intersects the point of rotation, so i don't care about it.  So it would seem to me that the 800N force multiplied by the 4m, gives 3200Nm plus the 200Nm from the couple makes 3400Nm, and since it has to be counteracted by B, it would be divided by 7m which equals 485.7Nm.  But what is Ay?  It seems to me it can be anything, as long as B is adjusted accordingly to account for it, but I think I need an actual value. Is Ay suppose to be part of the couple, because if it is it would have a value of 25N which would factor into the 800N because that force lies on the same place where the other portion of the couple would be.  So would 25N be Ay because it says in the question that 4 forces (800N, Ax, Ay, B) AND A COUPLE, which it makes me think that Ay isn't part of the couple?

Update on the layered metal weapons/props

Hello to everyone who took the time to read this update/list. So I have not forgotten about my promise to upload the Solidworks files and cutting plans. However that will be taking a backseat to finals until summer break. I will however go ahead and list off the items finished, in progress, on hold, or currently only in Solidworks form. Finished -6in Axe: 3lb head on an oak clad 1/4in steel flat bar about 20in long total -3in Tomahawk/Axe: 1.25lb head on a para cord wrapped 1/4in steel flat bar about 20in long total -27in BoneSplitter: 3.2lb aluminium reinforced steel construction. -18in BoneCracker: 2lb aluminium reinforced steel construction. -18in All steel BoneCracker: 3.5lb steel reinforced steel construction. More square handle and better center of balance than previous version In progress -10in Bearded Axe: 3.25lb head. To be mounted on oak clad 1/4in steel flat bar handles 18in, and 30in long. -10in blade Pugio: Model made of mild steel for practice and training. Needs to have bevels, and fullers ground plus handle and guard mounted. -8in blade Pugio: Model made of mild steel for practice and training. Needs to have concave edges, bevels, and fullers ground plus and guard mounted. On hold -14in Blade tester: Simple test bed modeled after BoneSplitter to test viability of various band saw blades(Metal and Wood cutting) for use as cutting edge for mild steel blade carriers. On hold due to the band saw blades being too hard to drill through. Only existing as Solidworks files --27in Revised BoneSplitter: 4.5lb Aluminium reinforced steel construction. Better center of mass and more square handle than MY           previous version. --37in blade Bastard sword: Aluminium reinforced steel construction. Should be very close in terms of center of balance and stiffness when compared to its hardened steel companions.  --20in blade Stacked steel Gladius: Twin riveted steel support plates with detoothed metal cutting bands saw blade used for striking edges.  --blade Hispaniensis Gladius: Single piece of metal for the blade. --blade Cinquedea: Single piece of metal for blade. Multi fuller blade. --8in blade Pugio curved: Same as other 8in Pugio except for the convex curved dagger tip --14in blade Spear from Fullmetal Alchemist: May upload the variant of this in which the "wings" are separate pieces of metal. --3.25in square Warhammer: 8.5lb head Assembled from 13 1/4in steel plates pinned together. Front is covered in 3/8in spikes poking through a steel striking face to prevent separation of the plates. Back end is a 4in spike. --5.25 square Warhammer: 16.25lb head Assembled from 21 1/4in steel plates pinned together. Front is covered in 3/8in spikes poking through a steel striking face to prevent separation of the plates. Back end is a 4in spike. --Straight edged War Axe: 7lb head Inspired by Ironclad Industries' Riftclaw. Made from 7 1/4in steel plates pinned together. I am aware that the riveted and pinned construction of these items makes them inherently less durable and less corrosion resistant than single piece construction. However I am a college student who is working with mostly scraps and whatever has to be purchased. Since mild steel thick enough to carve the Warhammers or War Axe is not common scrap material around the college's machine shop the only way to economically create them is to use stacked plate construction. As for the BoneSplitter, BoneCracker, and Bastard sword the stacked plate construction is used to both reduce the weight of the item and stiffen it at the same time.

Question about connecting arduino to PC.

If this is the wrong sub for this question, but I'd like to make a chess board that moves the pieces after the move has been played on a touch screen (moving via 2 axes and a retractable head with a magnet under the board). I've got it mostly figured out as far as movement is concerned, but is it possible to connect the system to a pc in that it inputs human moves from the board to a program like Stockfish and outputs it's moves back to the arduino? appvalleyMy main concern is that I would have to make a program that would take a picture of the board on stockfish and go from there as I don't know if the move logs can be extracted from the program itself. Thanks in advance. tutuapp

Instructables not family safe any more

I was disappointed to see the repeating ad for the AXE Undie Run. I was browsing through Instructables with my 10 year old son and the ad kept appearing at the top of the page. I actually DO care what goes into my child's mind. This is not the kind of content I want my son being exposed to yet. Come on? Women taking their clothes off? Headlines that say "Sexy"? What does this have to do with instructables? This just does not fit in with the otherwise wholesome, educational nature of the site. This means I cannot trust the content on this website to be safe for my kids any longer. If you cannot maintain higher standards than that, then I am forced to boycott this website for my family's viewing.

How would I go about making an Arduino control four Lego motors for a 3D printer? Answered

I am trying to make a Cartesian 3D printer out of Legos I have the printer almost done. It is time to start thinking about how I am going to control it. The RepRap uses the Arduino, I believe, although I'm probably wrong. I have an Arduino Mega The motors are RCX geared motors. They are powering a few worm gears, and all the setups I have are so far identical. I have, or will when this is finished, X,Y, and Z axes, as well as a filament feeder. I could just adjust the values of some already present software. This is probably the easiest solution. If worst comes to worst, I can replace the Lego motors with some sort of servos. So i guess my question is: where can i get 3D printer control software for an Arduino? And also, what random things do you know that could be helpful to this project? all comments welcome Thanks.

What's the best way to cut these reinforced rub/plastic speed bumps to increase the distance betw their 2 parts 4 bikes?

In this city it is a political chore to get speed bumps put in, particularly in the alleys.  For the most part, bicyclists just bu-bump over them; but, when u are a transportation cyclist like me (often heavily loaded) and u must negotiate these suckers daily or hourly, u begin 2 think that a few more inches between their two halves could make a big difference in time, money and wear. Note: some of them have been installed in an arcane manner to, for example, accomodate intersecting rainwater channels (which are cut into the pavement).  All of the above problems could often be circumvented by simply widening the space between the two halves of these devices by a few inches---like three. Slightly wider space between the two halves, called the "crotch" by some, would make it easy to ride down the alley and avoid both pinch flats and bu-bumping, bu-bumping, bu-bumping. P.S. An full swing from a sharp axe won't work....

need a little guidance with an arduino controlled CNC machine. help?

Ok so I am in the process of getting the axes set up, and theyre in a state that would allow me to test them. I am using the laser carriages from CD-ROM drives, so i know i wont get amazing build sizes, but that isnt the matter here. I've searched and searched and searched and have yet to really find definite instructions. The hardest part is going to be coding the arduino. I would like to use an ATmega16, but a 328 will work too. I intend on using L293D's to control my motors. they seem to work fine for on the bench testing, so with cooling in an enclosure i dont see why it wouldnt work. but I have no idea where to start with the coding. Ive seen references to GRBL, some reprap stuff, and a LOT of people being told basically "your method is stupid, buy these motor controllers and use my method", which i guess works well, but I dont have the money to buy the fancy motor controllers and the 293s seem to work fine. so, can someone point me in the right direction, or give me some pointers here please? I'd really appreciate it.

How big of a CNC stepper motor would I need to move a 300Lb 52"x 9' moving table on rack and pinion track? Possible?

Working on a custom CNC machine and I want my table to move instead of the gantry. My best case scenario would be having the table move 300 pounds and my worst case scenario, although acceptable, would be 120 pounds. I would assume the need to allow for the weight of the table itself, another 50 pounds. I'm sure that I could get the table to move but have concerns with: when the table is out eight feet from the router at a compete stop, pulling it back with that kind of weight is going to cause problems. I would like the table to use rack and pinion track and gears as well. I have an additional question as well: Obviously I'm going to need a sizable motor to move what I'm proposing but I would not need something so big to deal with the other two axes, is it okay to mix different size motors run from the same control panel? I would think yes, but want to be sure that I don't need to add anything special to help. I'm open to and appreciative of any and all suggestions and help. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
