I stole some poly fill/insulation shit out of a old pair of speakers that are waiting for some new drivers and I stuffed it in my subwoofer box. It doesn't sound like it's going to explode as much as it did before (it's a rather "rickety" box). But I did some googleing and it can overpower a speaker or something? I won't hurt my sub will I? -Punk

Wikipedia, a endless source of information, but how accurate is this information? i have noticed that in my school we are not allowed to use Wikipedia as a source for information now. it has to do with the fact that anyone can edit Wikipedia with wrong information. but i have noticed that they need citation and if they don't it gets marked with a (citation needed) thing right by it. so what do you think, should it be allowed to be used for school projects and what not, or baned from that?

Nobody would walk up to a friend and say "Dat vid on youtube wus lol rigt?". See how idiotic that sounds?! Now i hope you learn from this, and go type normally.

I recently went to radioshack, they now have a wider selection, and on most components the price isn't so bad actually. Most items are only a bit more than what you would pay online, yet there is no shipping charge and you get it instantly. I recently bought 2 micro motors for 8 dollars, online I could get 2 for 2 dollars, plus like 5 dollar shipping, it'd cost 7 dollars, but here I got it for 8 instantly. But not everything at radioshack is like that, I'd say only for resistors, capacitors, and LEDs are way overpriced. The rest is actually not so bad

I was doing a regular check of what coudal were linking and I found this. Spending a lot of time looking at Instructables Answers I'm both amused and interested, (and some other things...): www.yahooanswerfail.com/page/3/ E.g. ive heard a lot about this thing called autism. apparently it's like a special ability some people hav that makes you rly good at card games and stuff. how do i become autistic so i can win at casinos?! 31 - Do midgets have night vision? Posted in Pro because some questions are on the adult-side. It's scary in places, while mostly "sad". The point of this post is to remind those of us who look at Answers that it's pretty good around here. L

11 days ago, I contacted the other Anolon winners (Thanksgiving challenge) to see if their cookware had arrived. It hadn't. As per a suggestion from mikeasaurus, I sent an email to email@example.com regarding the prizes. Didn't hear back, so I emailed again last week. Still no word. Is there a different robot I should be contacting? ;-)

While editing the Intro of an unpublished instructable, I clicked on the "Library" tab to delete an unwanted image. Then I selected the "Upload" tab, and uploaded two replacements. When I scrolled up, all the Intro body text was gone. Kaput. It had been entered and edited several times the day before, so it wasn't a "you didn't save your changes" bug... ------------------------------------------------ Update --------------------------- Another minor bug, on my You page: Instructables: You've published "X instructables." You're working on "X instructables." If you click the You're working on "X instructables." link, the counter at the top says Unpublished (0). But if I select the Instructables tab at the top, it correctly lists Unpublished (1).

There is an ‘ible that is totally worthless. The author basically brags that “he did it, but isn’t going to tell you how.” It’s completely against the spirit of this website. Here is the ‘ible… https://www.instructables.com/id/Ethernet_Commodore_64/ (Note, I don’t know if the author has other good or bad ‘ilbes, but this one should be removed.) Once done, you can then delete this topic. 8>)

For the last month I have not been able to see te complete Instructable email when viewed with Incredimail. I haven't updated Incredimail so it shouldn't be that. I get just what fits in the preview pane and the progress bar shows a full indicator. If i double click in the e-mail to open it separately i get the same problem. I can however see the e-mail if i select forward or reply but of course no links are active so I can't get at them from there. When the e-mail is selected for viewing you can't scroll down to see the rest. It works fine for all other e-mails I get. Attached is a screen shot showing the screen with the Insreuctable in the preview pane. Thanks Bill Laurin

Ok, so the school forces us to go to a crappy pep rally every time they have a football game. This one was the worst. They started out with a tribute to Michael Jackson. That was fine by me seeing how he is dead and I respect the memorial of dead people, but then they play his music through the WORST audio system ever made. It turned So-So (In my opinion) music into the worst ever. Then the school made us get up and do some of the moves for one of his songs, and I am not a dancing person, so you can imagine how pissed I was. They had their dance team do the moves for the rest of the songs, and then they put on stupid makeup to make the dancers look like zombies. It was just stupid because they just looked like clowns with big baggy white Tshirts. Then they had some random stupid stuff that was supposed to be for comedic humor, and I did laugh, but only because it was so stupid. (Hint: It involves transvestites). And then to make it worse, people start pulling out their cell phones and taking pictures like there is no tomorrow. At the VERY LEAST turn the flash and that shutter noise off. The end result was that I had a severe case of brain rot for 6 hours and I just recovered now. I think everyone who organizes pep rallies should be shot. At least make pep rallies optional. GAWD.

OK so I have SBC(now A&T;) as my ISP. how onnection has always been fine u untill about 3-4 months ago. I have done EVERYTHING. I called them mutlile times and got multiple answers. 1)Bad modem(we had it for seven years) >I bought a new actiontec modem. it still goes out! 2)Bad filter >took off the filter and plugged the phone into a diff line with a filter and the dsl directly >to the jack 3)Bad line >some of our hone jacks in the house are not wired right so they recieve no dialtone >the jack the phone and dsl are plugged into has a tone. only thing is the jack its in has two >cat5 I cannot figure out there are for either. The phone company says the line to our house is ok and no one else in our area is having the same prob. They can send out a tech to check the line to our house(no charge) but if he goes in the house and finds a problem(even if he doesnt fix it) we will be charged for the labor. I have googled this for hours and called tons of ppl. I dont ned an answer how to fix it(i would like one) but i really want to know what is causing it.

I need a source of lye for my next project, but I've learned recently that "Red Devil Lye" is getting phased out because of the "War on Drugs."It is my understanding that sodium hydroxide is a main ingredient in Drano (5-10%), and so I'm trying to find out more information about what exactly is in Drano. (Would anything bad happen if I was to boil it?)Oh, and I am referring to liquid Drano, by the way.

I have a BenQ FP731 monitor with a bad power board. I'm waiting for the spares to arrive so I can repair it, but is it possible to replace the entire board with this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/Power-48-L9002-A14-BENQ-FP767-FP737S-Without-Audio-/250745267419?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a619524db the only thing scaring me is that its got four of those little white connectors for the lamps, while mine has just two broad connectors with three wires each. I guess its for two lamps and a ground on both of them, while on the one that I just posted, its separate connector to each lamp..... Would It work if I hack the connection to the lamp and use the new board?

Ok, I hear lots of name calling out there. Sometimes I even hear the N-Word. Not just one N-Word but multiple N-Words. So clue me in. Which is worse, a "noob", a "nerd", a "ninny" or a "numpty"? I just need to know how serious the name calling is. So give me the offensiveness levels of the previously mentioned N-Words on a scale from one to ten (with ten as the most offensive).

I originally posted this as a collaboration. Turns out it's better as a forum item, which may eventually evolve into a collaboration. I'll try to put up at least one image this weekend. Meanwhile, settle in for a bit of a read, and let me know what you think.. . . . . . . Ingredients:- About 2 dozen half dead or completely dead Apple USB mice, mostly black, some white, bundled and hung to age.- 8-10 Apple keyboards, some flavored with cola or hot chocolate, mostly black, some white.(Randofo may contribute more, we'll see what comes of this caper. See his keyboard hack.Optional additives:- Dead hard drives, also part of the job. I've been wanting to figure out how to hack the controllers and drive arms to make a sculpture that waves the arms vertically, in controllable ways. I don't know yet if this is a separate project or not.- Glue, solder, etc.- Other junk, hopefully minimal, unless it adds a whole new level to the project.StatusI gathered them by their USB connectors and hung them as sculpture, (photo coming soon) awaiting further inspiration. The ProjectFirst idea:Wire, (or rewire, in this case) the LEDs inside the mice, and make a decorative chandelier.Minimalist that I am, my first impulse is to leave the mice as original and intact as possible, while transforming an everyday object into something delightful and interesting.Current questions:- How to wire them all together, without making it a life's work?- Static or dynamic? Dimmable? Random "flickering/fading" like the new smarter Christmas lights, only more interesting?- Interactive? Respond to sound, temperature or other environmental changes? I like the idea of cause and effect resulting in some new information the observer can come away with, something that actually makes sense, rather than, "That's kind of interesting, but what for?"- Networkable?? So other Bad mice gone Good can influence behaviors?- Some sort of reference or action to the original intended function, i.e., input device, man-machine interface, 21st century worker harness, pixel pushing device, etc.- Hack a keyboard to control the mice? Force them to spell?? I like the idea of subverting/reversing the input/output direction.- use the reflective sensor in the mouse to provide input/output.- Influence Jonathan Ive and his brilliant staff at Apple to put some effective strain relief on all new mice!RulesAnd I use that term fairly loosely. Yet I find that good parameters, even if arbitrary (an affordable luxury with art and fooling around projects) help define the project, keep it manageable, and hence more likely to be completed. Sometimes it's just more fun too. I'll refrain from an essay on that for now. (hm, maybe an essay section would be good Instructables feature request?)- simple- can be made in 24 or fewer work hours.- cheap, with minimal non-salvaged parts.- repeatable, so others can create their own, in the fine, albeit young, Instructables tradition.- finished product is fun and delightful to most people, old or young, geek or non-geek.FeedbackPlease let me know what you think of this idea so far.New ideas, spinoffs, etc. are welcome. Please link or keyword all of them so we can see the connection between projects.Enough for now, I need to overhaul my resume so I can find a more interesting and creative job. SF Bay Area queries are encouraged!

This week pretty much sucks so far. To fill everybody in, I bought myself a nice little gift for my birthday, a 100 inch projector TV. I'm still working on the setup, even though my birthday was in July. Things take time, unfortunately. I was planning on hooking up my desktop PC to the projector, to show pictures and whatnot, it'll be my DVD player too. I have an ATI remote wonder that'll work perfect for it. I already have it integrated into the surround sound, so all I had to do is get a 25 foot VGA cable to run from the PC to the projector. Or so I thought, until it came across my mind that I wouldn't be able to use my desktops monitor. I thought I would just make a solid state switch, but unfortunately, a VGA cable has 15 pins - I don't think they make a dual throw 15 pole switch. So the backup plan was to get a second video card, to use in conjunction with the onboard graphics to do dual monitors. I can make a simple app, and use one of the programmable buttons on the remote to switch which is the primary display. So I went shopping, and I asked a friend what he thought of this one I wanted to buy. How convenient, that he just happened to get a new one, and he would sell me his old one, which just happened to be PCIE x16, for $50.. which is less than what I was looking at, and triple the quality. I buy it, and wait 2 days from it to go from San Fransisco to my house, in central MA. I install it, it works! Yay! I install the drivers, go out for a little bit, come back... dead computer. The thing was a goner, the PS blew, and took the motherboard with it. So I called up compaq... 20 days out of warantee. Great! At that point, I thought it was just the PS. It's 300 watts, running 2 hard drives, 2 CD drives, a 3.3ghz Celeron, and an ATI x1600 graphics card. So I go shopping, pick up a 500 watt one. Come home and install it... same shit. So I knew the motherboard was blown. I look it up, a new motherboard is $200. That's how much I paid for the damn computer! So it's ebay time, I find and win the same model for $250. So yeah, so far, the cost of this week is $350. $100 from the PS. So I put the computer back together, put it on the desk. I wake up the next morning to guess what? Look at the first picture. That's right, the glass desk shattered. The desktop was on the other side, thank god, but guess what got screwed up in that nice, conveniently timed breakage? - The new PS (I exchanged it, but I had to drive an hour to Circuit City) - One hard drive, 2 weeks old. - $90 - Old school soldering iron - costed me $80 back in the day. - A whole stack of DVD-RWs - $30 - A stock of CD-Rs - $15 - A pressure gauge from my Pneumatic cannon instructable - $10 - A bunch of misc electronic parts - $20 - My damn desk! - $120 So far, $715 total. Murphy's law in action right there.

Falls probably have seen my profile where it says I hate modern music. And I do. For A LOT of reasons. Mostly about love or ( Censored ) with the exception of a hand full. Has killed the drum and guitar solo, my favorite part of music. "Robotic" themes *cough* Lady GaGa *cough*' Have weird topics. Pretty much no relative respect for musicians. Can't understand half the lyrics. Very repetitive lyrics, well said by nigahiga. I need to think of more.
