Since I have the Ripin rocket set I was wondering if i could make the ball track with the set smoother even though i put railing in the middle. If anybody has a answer post please.

I am looking to build a device to launch indoor ball of flame, 2 to 4 ft in diameter without taking the house down. Was considering propane as fuel. I am working in an area with 14 foot ceiling. Had thought of using paintball gun valving but I am not out to re invent the wheel. If anyone has any ideas or plans I would thankfull.

Hey, I'm back. Well, I never left, I just never came on Instructables. I'm on the forums on BYMC all the time, though. If you go looking for me, I am known as Alt Ctrller on there, and AIM. Well, i was surfing youtube, and I came on this video, and I was dumbstruck. How are they not burning they're fingers? What the hell? So I scanned Google for the burning point of Ronsonol Lighter fluid, known as Naptha and white gas, campstove gas, and coleman fuel. No results. It looks like he made a round "wick", and thats it. But how is he not burning himself? My ideas:-Burns really low(relatively)-heat rises, no burns-no contact long enough-he's high and he can't feel the burns-he's just stupid-a combination of any one of the above fiveWhat's your take? I know I'm going to try it, I like risks....But what about denatured alcohol? also known as meths and methelated spirits....?would they burn too hot?

This ball machine is tall and has 4 paths so I was wondering if anybody had ideas on where to make a fifth path. I have a lot more knex pieces. So I can build a lot of things. And yes I attached a working ferris wheel to my ball machine with gears and chains.

Hello, I want to make some glowing juggling balls (using LED probably), but I have no idea about what ball to use, how to make it turn on and off and how to balance it. I tryed the led ping pong balls (link at the end), but they're too small and light. Any ideas? How do the glowing balls work (those that from Yo-ho, for example)? Thanks. I was wondering if anyone on these forums think they could make one of these. It is such a interesting time piece and i think it would look great in any modern living room. I want to make one but the kits are kind of exxpnesive and its more fun if you can make it on your own. Here is some pictures. Enjoy and thanks for your input :). Toby Mac

I began collecting a few bowling balls with the intention of making decorative art in my flower beds. I have a neighbor across the street who undoubtedly has so much disregard for me that he reported me to the city code enforcer who said bowling balls were against code. I had a supervisor come and look at my yard and the bowling balls and he said it is art. The other code enforcer has required that I "anchor" them down. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm sure no matter what I do the neighbor will not like it. He hates my trees. I have humongous oaks and lots of plants and shrubs. He has complained for 16 years now. He sits on his front porch and watches everything I do. He reported I had rats. They found the rats nest on his property. He claims the termites come from my home. Believe me, I have a small brick ranch that I do all the upkeep on. I think he just can't stand it that he can't tell me what to do like he does the rest of the neighbors. I'm a woman-maybe that's his problem. Anyway, how do I "anchor" my bowling balls without taking away from the art of them in my flowerbeds? Please help me. I want to abide by the city codes.

Alright, so ive been into making all sorts of cannons whether they are pneumatic or hairspray, and recently I've been wanting to build a pneumatic tennisball cannon. i came across halve a dozen empty fire extinguishers, i am still deciding if i should use one as the chamber. i am using an electronic sprinkler valve and a 2 1/2" barrel i am also getting a 12 volt (dc) car air compressor (125 psi) and i am going to incorporate this somewhere in the cannon, the air compressor is really small so i could make it built in. i really want to make this cannon portable but i am concerned about the weight of it with the fire extinguisher tank, Any Ideas?

I don't know if you heard, but the ball that drops in Times Square every new year was energy efficient this year. It was twice as bright, but only used as much power as ten toasters. How do you think they did it? I'm thinking all LEDs. It was a neat thing for them to do, regardless. The following picture is from the Associated PressUPDATE: T3h_Muffinator looked it up on wikipedia. They switched to LEDs this year. Link

I've noticed that there has been a recent rise of ball machines being made by the k'nexers. I think this is great. I personally love ball machines and have made 4 of them. I am currently working on a 5th one which is approximately 170 cm. or 67 inches tall. It has 4 paths so far. Comment if you are currently building or planning a ball machine.

Dear all, first of all, hello to all of you, I'm new to this site, but I've already seen some wonderful things on here, and they are a true inspiration source for the projects I'm working on during my study as an Industrial Designer.I've got a question about a concept of mine, which I will explain briefly to give you an understanding of what I'm trying to create:When playing a sport, let's take football (by which I mean soccer) there's a ball. My idea is to make the ball represent the ball possession (or actually the ball passing between players) of the teams. For instance, you have a blue and a red team, and what I want to do is make the ball color almost entirely blue if the blue team is in ball possession all the time. This way people will be more stimulated to play with eachother, passing the ball to eachother instead of scoring goals individually. The way I want the ball to change color, is by making it detect when it's being kicked, by a football shoe (which has to have some implemented technology as well). So everytime it's being passed from one player to another of the same team, the ball will color more blue or red. I need some help with the technology as I'm totally new to this aspect, 1. How to make the ball change colors? (LED's, or optical fiber: http://www.imtech.nl/SiteContent/EUPortal/Images/ImtechNV/newsroom/succes/17%20glasvezel.jpg, or any other suggestions?)2.How to make the ball communicate with the shoes? One thing I've been looking into is RFID - chips/reader, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaNnOHSJ-cQ, and then make the RFID-chips with a very limited range, so that only when the ball (with the reader) is close enough, the reader will detect the chip. But this seems like a last option, and I actually want something better. What I basically want is that when the shoe and the ball touch eachother, the coloring will happen. The requirements are that the shoes, must contain unique information so that the ball will know on what team that shoe is, another thing is that it can't be fragile, as the ball will be kicked by the shoe. Now as I'm fairly new to technology, I don't expect to build something with the best technology possible. As I have to write a final report, I will just present the technology idea in it. But it would be great if I could actually show an interactive prototype version of my concept. Therefore, if you have any suggestions, please write down the best possible way to create this, and a probably less perfect way that I can demonstrate (I'm willing to learn a lot over the next few weeks). Thanks in advance!

I am currently making a new ball machine, It will have a 'Jungle' theme to it. I'm thinking of a name for it.. i have these so far: Jungle, Monkey and Swingin'. If you have any ideas for elements or names feel free to comment. It will have 4 paths. *EDIT* This ball machine is now finished. I will post a video but no instuctions. To give you a hint of what it looks like here are the names of the four paths: Old mine, Vine run, Broken bridge, And Waterfall. I will call It "Rumble In The Jungle" thanks to MegaMetal8.

I'm planing on constructing a ball mill out of pvc plumbing parts. So far I have two questions... ~I need some help with how to get a motor to use to drive it, that wouldn't require 'to much' wiring to set up. I was thinking about using a drill and mounting it some how. ~Second, I would like to know where I could get lead or other non-sparking media other than online. For example, I heard you could use lead fishing weights, if they sell this at a place like Dicks Sporting Goods could you please send me a product number? Thank You for your time

Hey I was thinking about having a new ball alternator well at least a idea. I made a model on this knex modeling thing. Well how It SHOULD work is that it is encased in a cage where the ball falls down and a motor will be turning the fan like things. Underneath the fan there might be 1-4 ball path. The fan will move and thus it will make the ball fall randomly in one of the 4 paths. I'm running out of pieces and I don't want to take apart my ball machine that i'm making so you guys can try to make this is you want. It might also be hard to see the yellow rod behind the red one.

I was wondering if somebody could make a new knex ball machine, with 4 paths, and with 3000 - 5000 pieces. what you can use: any connectors or rods anything from the big ball air tower set any gears any motor what you cant use: orange tubing over 10ft of chains (unless its some kind of other lift) these are other ball machines i made. i broke them because there were not many paths, the ball kept falling off, or that they just werent good enough. project box project immeuble project nano project dos project aggresor (the famous knex big ball factory below)

Funky Ball Idea. I had a crazy idea pop into my head last night. These things happen. I call it Funky Ball. I am not quite up to the task at the moment as I have my hands full of several other projects. I consider my ideas "Open Source" so hope someone with more time and talent will find this a challenge and run with it! The only "Licensing" condition, post pictures and a video here and let me copy them to my personal project page. Here is the idea posted on my site. ------------- Here it is here ! ( same thing but I might update stuff on the site later ) --------- This idea came to me...I have no idea why. A transparent or translucent ball with illumination inside so there is a glow when seen rolling down the sidewalk. The tough part. Only one side glows! The tougher part. That side is always NORTH ! ( or South depending on your politics ) So here we have a ball rolling down a dark path with the same side always illuminated. It should appear as if it is floating down the path because the illuminated side never changes position. Options: One color on NORTH and one on South. Perhaps color changing RGB LED's? Perhaps a "head light" always illuminating direction of travel with a tail light. The illuminated side is always the side in the direction the ball is rolling. Methods: Arduino and compass or gyro/attitude shield? Anyone ?

Hi guys umm well the title pretty much says it. For sometime now, many of you have known that I have been working on a new ball machine. However, one thing you should know about the ball machine is that I am quitting on it. :-( WHY? 1) Not enough space :-( - see pics 2) Not enough time - I know that you have to make time if you want to K'nex, but over the past month, I have not really had the chance to build at all due to studies and other stuff :-P. Its quite unpredictable when I was going to get it finished by These are the main reasons why I am quitting as well as I am not sure if I have enough pieces :-( BUT... After tearing down this ball machine, I will begin a new one hopefully. This one will not be high but it will be more wider, compact and dense around the bottom. I am happy to inform you that this will feature a white floor as well as 2 networks as far as I have planned :-). Anywho, thanks for reading this post and feel free to comment Also, for any of you wondering, the last picture is a new ball machine lift which I hope to post in a week or two. Till next time Hunter999

An article in PhysicsWorld reports on a novel technique for measuring the acceleration due to gravity. The researches used a cloud of ultra-cold atoms and bounced them off a series of upward laser pulses. By measuring the timing of the bounces they could measure g with better than 1 per mil precision.

Hello all! I am seeking some suggestions on creating a mechanism for dropping a 20-25lb. New Year's eve ball. We used this Instructable to make our Godzilla sparkleball as an NYE ball, and it's pretty rockin' (thanks vwluvrs). We dropped the ball from my friend's attic last year, lowering it by hand. Manual lowering is SO last year, and we're looking to improve the drop by automating the process. Oh, and we'd like to keep this at $20 or lower :) Any ideas? Thanks for any input! I will be happy to post a vid of the drop, even if we end up lowering by hand.

Hi! Here is the last ball machine I was working on, It was the second i have made.It was going to have 20 paths, but I ended up only managing 7, before I ran out of knex. It was 8+ feet tall, 5 or 6 feet long, and used 5 different lifts, they were as follows: Chain 2, Stepper, Spiral, Stair. It had four towers. And over all, It was my best work! (So far....) >Axiys< EDIT: I just added some new pics, The 5th - 9th .

For some while I've had a pile of ball bearings sitting here on my lounge room table, and without knowing what on earth to do with them, I now ask you. I have found uses such as adding to my "mousetrap racer," a small car, run by a mouse trap, that can go up to 15 metres. With ball bearings it goes twice as far as it used to, so I have become curious... what to do now though? All ideas would help, and an instructable would be even better. Cheers
