I soon, i am going to make my Extrem shotgun, But this gun will probally use a barrel That is made of connectors (kinda like all the pistols). So i wanted to ask everyone What are the pros and cons of a connector barrel vs. the tanclip barrel like in my Extrem.

I came up with this gun design a year or so ago. I think the idea for such a wide barrel has been done, like the bug-squarish one, "Special munitions" or something. Even this use of gray rods has been done as a grenade launcher- but never with a trigger. The usefulness would be to use as a shotgun, of course, or fire those little black circle things. I've taken this apart some time ago, but it could be rebuilt. I realize the wide ramrod tip would seriously decrease power, but it is a less piece-consuming version of the barrel seen on the previously mentioned "special munitions" (or something) gun. Does anyone think this is valuable?

Recently I was browsing instructables and noticed that there aren't any 'ables on how to figure out what size of DC powerjack one has or even for that matter how those barrel power jacks are measured. One of the major things the DIY Laptop Repair guides overlook is how to identify which DC Jack you have so you can replace it. Most laptop DC jacks don't have part numbers unless they are from a main distributor like DELL. I've been reading a lot of conflicting information as to what really matters when your trying to find a replacement connector component. Some mention barrel length as being important whereas others focus on the inner and outer diameter. It sure would be nice if someone could write up an instructable on how to correctly identify these and what is important when looking for replacement parts like these.

I was trying to design a new knex barrel and saw i had an excess of roller coaster parts. So i made a long plain straight piece of track and just attached a rubber band to a cart then the front of the track and it had so much power because of the zero friction barrel. So i was wondering if we could form this type of barrel into a new breed of knex guns. Comment if you have ideas.

I was wondering where to find those multipurpose metal barrels like the ones you find conveniently scattered across landscapes in first person shooters. They also seem notorious for holding toxic waste in movies. I was thinking it would be at some kind of surplus store. Can anyone help?

For anyone that has or is thinking of building my M14. For those that have built it, you probably may have notice that the barrel at the end does go off at a bit of angle. Luckily I happen to rebuilding it again today and that problem has been fixed. As shown in the pictures, you simply take out the green rods on both sides and then push the orange connectors forward, add a rubber band and the problem is solved. I will include this pictures in the instructions https://www.instructables.com/id/Knex-M14-Instructions-1/. Thanks to those that left a birthday comment in my 21st birthday forum topic, really appreciate it.

Where can I purchase barrels for a floating dock that are priced reasonable? I live in the country and don't have or know anyone to try to pick up barrels for free. The prices are all over the place for plastic ones, so I thought someone who purchased them might give me a heads up where to purchase them. firstname.lastname@example.org

Questions for you scientific types. Would this work: I have a 3,000 gallon inground pool and no heater. If I took a barrel, stuck it in the shallow end just a half inch above being totally submerged, and lit a fire inside it it would it work to heat the water around it and eventually heat up the pool?

I am looking to start my DIY water collection system, but the key for me is to find 3-4 55 gallon plastic drums for this project. I located someone on craigslist selling several drums for a very reasonable price. The question I have is, should I be very concerned that these plastic drums once contained various car washing fluids? Can these be effectively rinsed out? Will my garden be severely impacted by this?

Thanks to CJ81499 for finding this out. Well, he managed to make my gun shoot like it had a rifled barrel (FYI, a rifled barrel spins the ammo horizontally for more areodynamics), so now I have the first knex gun with a rifled barrel that shoots well. www.instructables.com/id/SWVUCGGG2HE1A1C/ More details in the link.

I want to use the barrel for composting and hope it can be removed, I have looked everywhere and talked to many people just trying to find a barrel to begin with. There are no sources near me for the barrels so I am hoping someone can help me figure out how to remove the residue left in this barrel.

These are barrels I got when I requested Soda Syrup Barrels, directly from the bottling plant. They still contain a small amount of liquid. The barrels are white and have a label that says CRI-1020787, Corrosive, 8, Phosphoric Acid Solution, UN 1805, along with a bar code. There is no mention of percentage on the label. I assume they are food grade. I need to know if they are safe to use to make a composter. Please let me know, what you know.

They had Polyacrylic acid (CAS# 9003-01-4) in them, which was being used as a calcium dispersant/scale inhibitor. I was wondering with a good rinse, wash and soak if they would be ok for use in a rainwater collection system that feeds a garden. I discovered that that specific chemical is also used in all kinda of cosmetics, and in many of different pills (Musinex as an example) as a time release agent. I figure if I clean them good, how bad could it be if it's something that you would ingest anyway?

Twas bound to happen - so why not open the new year with a new high?http://money.cnn.com/2008/01/02/markets/oil/index.htm?postversion=2008010212U.S. crude for February delivery jumped $4.02 to $100 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange before slipping to $99.42. The previous trading record was $99.29 set Nov. 20. Oil prices ended 2007 by gaining nearly 60 percent for the year, the largest jump this decade."This market is really gonna fly," Ira Eckstein, president of Area International Trading Corp, said from the NYMEX floor. In Nigeria, bands of armed men invaded Port Harcourt, the center the oil industry Tuesday, attacking two police stations and raiding the lobby of a major hotel, The Associated Press reported. Okay I have not built a cannon yet as such, as I am going to make my first one awesome but I've done some research and found the golden ratio for efficiency for chamber-barrel size, assuming the chamber is always the same volume a chamber is 1.6, now I'm guessing a bit from now on but it seems that that maximum efficiency is approximately 1.61803399 or the golden ratio that keeps appearing in our world, I just thought you guys would like to know for the design stage as this is what I'm going to be using when I make my gun. also is it worth spending extra for a high flow blowgun over a normal one for the pilot valve to my 1" sprinkler or wont it make a noticeable difference P.S. if my calculations are wrong please, if you know more ( I'm only 13) please correct me. I have worked this out from pneumatics, not combustion's or hybrids. expect to see my gun soon!

This came up in another forum, but I heard the report too.... So today, there was a broadcast on NPR (yes, I admit that I listen to NPR :p) about a $100 per barrel crisis.... If you didn't know, a barrel of crude goes for about $93. Personally, I don't think it will cause a crisis - it's not as if it's going from $30 to $100 in a week. However, seriously, are the masses comatose? It's not like no one has been warning them of this - and the consequences nowhere near sustainable living. Arrrrr.... I've been saying it for awhile - if we don't regulate ourselves, nature is going to take the kind liberty of doing that for us (and that won't be pretty). Soylent Green anyone? I mean, I recently read that the average American will consume about 500,000 gallons of water per year... whereas some of the Nordic countries, consumption is around 17,500 gallons per person... By the way, the US has a very limited water store supply :/ US has 5% of world population... 25% of world total CO2 emissions. China, for example, has 22% of the world population - but only 15% of the world's CO2 emissions.... US has 5% of the world population - and 29% world CO2 emissions from fossil fuels. (china 14.5) What percentage of companies are considered sustainable (by Dow Jones sustainability index) in the US? A measly, 19.8% (UK: 68%).

I am, by dint of geography, unable to enter the Jack Daniel's Contest. I do, though, have a rather good idea, which I think would have a decent chance of winning, if presented properly. Here's the deal - you can have the idea, for free. But, if you win the $25,000 grand prize, you must make a serious attempt to get the barrel to me in the UK. If you "only" win first or second, then all I want from you is a polite "thank you". There's a catch, though - I will not give this idea to any one person. I will give it to everybody who asks for it by PM. Nobody will know how many people have been given my idea, and it is down to everybody who asks to present the idea in their own video, in their own style. You can comment if you want, maybe add your own ideas if you are also from an ineligible location, but I will only give the idea by return of PM.

So, I want to make a "programmable barrel organ" like the $1100 version below (called the Gloggomobil) but instead of using a xylophone to make the notes, I want to use kalimba-style metal rods that are plucked by pegs. My problem is, I can't think up a good way to do the barrel. The pins need to be strong enough to pluck these metal bars without breaking, but also secure in their spots so that they don't fall out when the drum is upside-down. The only thing I can think of that would be effective would be a metal barrel with threaded holes that you put screws into, but not only would drilling and threading hundreds of holes be impossibly time-consuming, programming a song would take hours and hours. I've been pondering this thing for the last week and I'm at my wits end. I'm asking the Instructables community to give me a hand figuring out what to do. Pretty much any material is at my disposal: wood, metal or plastic. I want this thing to look good though, so I don' want to do nails in a coffee can or something el-cheapo like that. Thanks for any ideas, I'll be sure to write up an Instructable once work gets underway.

Hello. I made a Paintball-to-Airsoft-sniper conversion about a year ago. (Instructable soon! Don't worry. And another one after that!) I saw these Barrage barrels and wanted to know if anyone uses them or has used them, and what they think. My conversion uses a longer home-made barrel, not a Barrage barrel. These barrels are used in normal paintball guns to shoot BBs in .117 (bb gun bbs) or Airsoft (6mm) calibers. The barrel comes as a one-piece part that you just screw on. It has a Feet-Per-Second adjustment that supposedly ranges from 175FPS to 450FPS. There is an attached hopper that you put the ammo in. the barrels are about ten inches long, and made of solid aluminum. Anyway, anyone know anything about them?

Hello,I wanted to start my own backyard composting and I looked at a instructable on how to build a tumbling composter and I finally secured a 55 gallon barrel that I could potentially. I was told from a co-worker that the contents of the barrel were only alcohol fuel. Will I be able to use this barrel as my compost barrel and be safe from using the compost in my garden, lawn, flower, etc? I did a bit of research and it seems to be safe as some people have used composting to create alcohol fuel with a distillery. Just want to be absolutely sure and safe before I do anything.Thank you!
