Well does anybody cheer on a baseball team? I cheer on the New york Yankees. And just in case you don't know the Yankees are in the mlb (major league baseball).

My son plays little league baseball and there are quite a few balls "just out of reach" on some private property with a 6' high chain link fence. No barbed wire, but lots of poison ivy. Wondering if you folks could help me McGuyver something to retrieve these baseballs. I got as far as PVC and some sort of grappling hook, but then again, I'm a newbie ;-) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, This year my high school baseball team coach asked me to help televise the games for the local channel. He said that we have cameras and the only thing we need to broadcast the games live is the internet. The baseball diamond is around 200 yards away from the main school. There is no internet over there. So here are my options. (A) Put up a directional wifi antenna on the roof of the school, (B) Use a cell phone internet conection, (C) Set up a powerline network. Here is the problem with (A)- I don't know where to purchase a cheap antenna (less than $100) and a cable to the roof/ The Problem with (B) is that it would be very expensive and I don't think the internet would be fast enough. The Problem with (C) is that even if I were to set up a powerline network in the school the power out at the diamond is on a different breaker so it would not work. Do you have any suggestions for my problem? Where to get a cheap directional antennas? Thanks Joe

I need a sensor chronograph designed to measure the speed of a batted baseball. It would consist of a frame assembly mounted on a pole in front of home plate in a batting cage. The goal would be for the device to be stationary, able to measure the speed of a batted ball on demand and then displaying it on an LCD positioned 30-60 feet away. It should be automatic and unattended, working without anyone doing anything to activate it other than hitting an oncoming pitch. We are interested in measuring only the batted ball, not the pitched ball from the pitcher or the swing speed of the bat. The measuring area would need to be about 2-6 feet high (depending on how far in front of home plate it is positioned) to accommodate a batted ball that is hit high or low. It should be able to measure the speed of any ball hit fair, from the first base line to the third base line. The speed of the batted ball would range anywhere from 40 to 130 mph. Since the device would be used on a repetitive, long term basis care would need to be taken during the design to provide for protection from any batted balls that might find their way into the device itself (a piece of screen, chain link or plexiglass installed in front of it?) If you know where I might obtain a working apparatus or might locate someone willing to build one I would appreciate your response to the email address below. In an effort to bring baseball card trading into the 21st century, and aid falling revenues, playing card manufacturer Topps developed an interactive 3-D baseball card experience using specialized cards and a computer webcam."Since the 1950s, Topps has sold baseball trading cards filled with photos and stats, bringing the game to life. Now the company is bringing its cards to life.""Beginning Monday, collectors who hold a special Topps 3D Live baseball card in front of a webcam will see a three-dimensional avatar of the player on the computer screen. Rotate the card, and the figure rotates in full perspective. It's called 'augmented reality,' a combination of a real image with a virtual one."Webcam Brings 3-D to Topps Sports Cards The New York TimesTopps 3-D Live Toppstown.com

Hi everyone! So I read and reread many threads and have a few questions about a building a Daft Punk helmet for hallowe'en. Now I know all of you are probably saying "pfffft not another one" But mine will be different and you will see once it is done. It is more of a Daft Punk Inspired helmet. Anyways, the helmet will be Thomas's helmet which will be started from a low profile rawlings baseball helmet. But will have a few changes to it from the original ones. My question is: After applying the bondo onto the helmet, to strengthen the inside, do I use bondo again? spray foam? or nothing since the baseball helmet is basically still there. Thanks! And I will post photos of progress. Antoine

I made a very simple pitching machine...actually a soft toss machine. It is a pvc pipe assembly that when set up, dad simply "loads" a ball in the downward angled pipe and it "drops" in front of the batter. My question is: the downward angled pipe can be long enough to hold a dozen balls - what can I use to create a mechanism that allows one ball to drop every 5 seconds automatically?

I know the basic rules, and we'll play by hitting the ball off a tee (like in golf just much higher). It's for a sportsday of the whole college. Any class attends in two disciplines in a tournament against all ther classes and the teachers team. This year it's football and baseball. (last year was basketball and swimming, extremely funny). Now i'm pretty bad at the moment and i'm in my final year, so i don't want to be the jackass who screws up for the seniors :P I'm a pretty good runner on short distances and the field won't be huge (good advantage), but i'll need to hit the ball far enough to run, that is my major problem. (already read a tutorial from this side, but it wasn't that helpful), so i'm very glad for any tricks, ideas, instructions or whatever. thanks in advantage, oliver from switzerland (yes, the guys with the evil tax-stealing banks XD)

My 4 year old is wheel chair bound. He is too weak to hold a bat and swing it.. So I want to attach a spring loaded baseball bat to his wheel chair, and all he does is hit a button to swing the bat. The bat would reload manually or ideally automatically. The same concept would work to 'kick' a soccer ball if we just attach the 'tool' lower on the wheelchair.

I want to make a tire tee for my softball-loving daughter. I saw the one in the link below and thought it would be an easy (and cheap) DIY. http://i44.tinypic.com/9tzol5.gif I'd want it to be portable, as her team is talking about practicing inside a school gym when it gets cold and this would be an excellent tool for hitting inside. My thought was to fill a bucket with concrete and stick the pole in it which would be my base. It looks like there's some PVC slipped over the pole with a pin/screw/bolt holding it at the height. If I want to get really fancy, I can drill multiple holes and adjust the height for each girl. The weight of the tire should provide enough resistance on its own. I want to limit any extra resistance from the tee as much as possible. The question I have is about the pivoting tire. What's the best way to set that up? I could have two pieces of PVC connected by a coupler and the tire would rest on the coupler. Or I could secure the the tire to the PVC in some way and when the batter hits it, the tire AND PVC rotates around the base pole. Any suggestions about this? I appreciate any insight! Thanks!

I love baseball. I want to watch the World Series on TV, but I don't want to listen to the TV announcers. I want to listen to the radio broadcast instead.* Problem is, the "live" TV arrives 1-2 seconds after the radio. Which means I hear about the deep flyball to left before I see it. And that takes the fun out of watching the game. So, I'm wondering if I can add an adjustable delay to the sound from my radio, to sync up with the picture. I can sacrifice a boom box or other radio for this if nec. Or some other solution? (I can record both and sync 'em up later using video editing software, but that's not practical). * for baseball fans: it's the choice between the Buck/McCarver team (perfectly boring & perfectly obnoxious) and Jon Miller/Joe Morgan radio team (passionate and fun).

I have a retro Tiger Electronic Handheld Baseball game circa.1993-95 like the one somebody else listed here http://cgi.ebay.com/BASEBALL-Tiger-Electronics-Vintage-Retro-Handheld-Game-/300442084519?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash;=item45f3be64a7. While wiping the dust off, I forgot to switch to an alcohol wipe instead of my Murphy's Oil/Water rag and took it apart to dry it out. Now all the pieces in the itty bitty screen won't go back together right. I'm pretty sure the thing still works if I could just reassemble it. Any recommendations on what to do? Or can I just list it as "FREE" on craiglist or a yard sale to anyone that wants to play with it or use it for parts? Sadly, I no longer have the original package or instructions.

I hate sports on TV. In math class today, we were talking about how some major league baseball player who gets paid at least 1 Million dollars per year has a batting average of .235, which is pretty lame. Why the heck do people pay tickets or watch TV just to see average people play baseball or basketball or any sport actually? In that case, why don't people pay to watch kids play basketball in the gym or to watch adults play softball in their free time? It's the same thing, the only thing that the people who play sports in their spare time don't have is a huge corporation backing them up and putting their faces on TV. Secondly, it gets in the way of programs I want to watch. I turn on the TV at the advertised time to watch Family Guy, which was at 7:00, and instead I get to watch a baseball game with sub-par action. I don't really care about who won what game, and I don't see how this is any different from sports games that adults play out of their spare time. To make it worse, kids at school just talk and talk and talk about the sports games. Shut the hell up people! I don't care about the games, I don't care who won, I don't care about that pass or slam dunk, stop wasting my time. Boycott sports. Don't buy tickets, don't watch games, and DON'T BUY ANY TEAM JERSEYS THAT STORES HAPPEN TO SELL!

I have a Milwaukee Brewer themed golf cart and the only thing it is missing is a helmet for a roof. It needs to be just a basic 80's baseball helmet (no ear flaps...like the ones they used to give away at the game) that is big enough to cover or replace the top of the my EZ-GO golf cart (about 80" long). Has anyone seen one of these done before? What kind of materials would I use to fabricate something like this?

I am trying to develop an app that can help kids develop throwing skills for sports. My end objective is to get the throw speed of a baseball into a python or java variable. Ideally I want to get a radar gun with a USB interface and API. I'm not a hardware guy so I have some learning to do. I know that there are plenty of radar guns out there. but I know nothing about them or how to accomplish this. Can anyone point me in the right direction here? What do I need? How do I make this work?
