Belated I'bles Birthday! (I'm Do_Not_Turn_Off_The_Power BTW)

So, yeah! I just realized that I've been a member of the community for over a year! A lot's been happened, but I just wanna say I'm glad for joining I'bles. When I first joined, I never thought I would become an overall well-known regular on this website, but I did, so that's awesome, I guess. Thanks to Eric for making this wonderful website, the I'bles team for being really cool and helpful admins, and to all the friends I've gained on this website. I would like to thank these friends of mine in particular:DJ Radio: Thanks for keeping it real with me, man. You're one of the first people I befriended with here on I'bles and also the best one. Continue keeping it real, brah!Berkin: You're awesome, period. Your ideas are just great and I would like to thank you for helping me with various problems I face in real life.bkreed: HAI HAI! THXMUCH FOR EVRYTHANG *GLOMPS*! Seriously though, you're just great. I really like how you can instantly spice up a boring chat just-like-that. You're the coolest dudette friend I have, better than the ones I have in real life. *GLOMPS AGAINZZ* The Jamalam: Thanks for cheering me up with your awesome jokes and antics and standing up to me in arguments. Also thanks for being a really good friend ever since the first few weeks I started I'bles. HAZPIE! (I'm sorry whoever you are if you're not included here. I think all my friends are cool, it's just that I never did get to know you better, I guess.)Oh yeah, I would also like to apologize to all the people I've dissed on I'bles, Lithium Rain and Keith-Kid in particular, because I attacked both of you even though I have nothing against you two (wait, cross that. I was really ticked of at Keith at the moment, but using Lithium as a subject for inappropriate jokes directed at Keith is just wrong and immature). Sorry again to everyone else, my attitude is just part of who I am and I can't change that. And lastly, I would also like to thank everyone who thinks my homemade weapons are cool. Thank you very much, the compliments meant a lot to me.So, yeah! Thank you to all of you for making these two years a very valuable and enjoyable one.Best Regards,Izanagi Telos.

More Awesome Fan Art

A little while ago we received a series of letters in the mail. Not regular letters that are written on paper, but big letters like "R" and "T" and so son. Finally, the explanation was posted and we put it all together. Sadly, some of the letters never did make it to the office and we're a little short, but we really did appreciate the sentiment. It made us all warm and fuzzy inside. Thank you. Here are the much-belated pics of what we received.

Cardboard Playhouses

Greetings all, I'm wondering if any of the members ever work in cardboard for children's toys or playhouses ? I'm finishing a belated Xmas gift for my niece, a six sided cardboard tee pee that breaks down into 12 easily stowed sections and fastens with releasable zip-ties. All the material aside from adhesives and said fasteners were recycled from local appliance and furniture retailers so it's a very green eco-friendly item. Should there be any interest I will post the plans and material list at a later time.

So I'm Totally Official Now

This is a bit belated, but a few weeks ago I became an official employee here at Instructables. Today is the end of my third week here. I've been busy digging in to all of the duties and learning all of the behind-the-scenes stuff, but it's better late than never to make some kind of announcement, right? I think that Instructables is an awesome place and I'm totally grateful that Eric hired me on. To be able to use your skills in an area where you want to use them is a rare thing. That is why I've been able to spend a lot more time on the site and the forums. So feel free to ask me any questions about what's going on. I also promise to get back on doing some Instructables really soon. This summer has been busy for me. I got married in Italy, got a new job, and am moving to a new house next weekend. So I've been a bit preoccupied. But I'll soon be working through my queue of at least a dozen projects and get them up soon. Cheers.

Cabins/shelter from garbage/recycling and then some- new site/blog- and INDIE BOOK released

D.I.Y. Micro-Shelters: NEW indie book-forum/site- w/cabins from garbage/recycling and then some I figured it was about time to get up off my arse and get an actual account here, as on a few other sites I constantly(!) read. I'll also post a few of the "constructed-from-roadside-trash" cabins I've built soon- here and on my own blog/site (if anyone's interested, if not, I'll resume beer drinking, and general relaxation). I'm also in the process of building a 16 square foot multi-purpose, mobile cabin-sleeper/sauna/greenhouse/ice-fishing shanty that I'll eventually post upon (its one of three cabins in the works in my Sanford N' Son-like backyard)- yeah, my wife is a trooper! http://www.relaxshax.com http://www.relaxshacks.com In the meantime, after WELL over a year of illustrating and writing, I've now finally completed (through tiny yellow house press) my own small houses/cabins book "Humble Homes, Simple Shacks, Cozy Cottages, Ramshackle Retreats, Funky Forts- And Whatever The Heck Else We Could Squeeze In Here." Clockin' in, coffee-table-book size, at just over 100 pages filled with avalanches of sketches and redneck-thrift/yankee ingenuity projects and ideas, I'm now selling a small initial run of these hand assembled books (you can find all the details on the blog/post). Building your own windows, doors, solar showers, rainbarrels, bridges, furniture, and more from recycled crud, is all covered within. Inspirationally, the books owes good parts of its existence to the work of Lester Walker, David and Jeanie Stiles, D.C. Beard, Dan Price, and Lloyd Kahn. All in all, I'm a small-house book junky, and after the well started drying up a little (I've bought and read all the decent ones I could find) I decided to write my own. Anyway, thanks for looking, and I'll get some small house photos up soon! Happy belated new years to all! -Derek "Deek" Diedricksen

I need your help! Writers and bored people! Citizen Science: Pens vs. Computers!

I'm conducting a research, and I require all ye's cooperation in this! (Indeed, this is citizen science) If you would like to participate in this tiny research, then would ye lassies and lads care to follow the below instructions? I'll write a high school-level research paper on this once there's so much data, that I'd be swimming in the stuff. If you feel like you can't do it, please do smother the link around liberally, so that other people that can answer it, will answer it! Do your part for science! =========================== Directions: You will need the ff.: > a coin > pen/pencil and paper > a stopwatch of any sort > a word processor (a word count is useful) > an internet connection (for posting the results here, of course!) Then do this: 1) Flip a coin. If heads, you'll be using plain ol' pen-and-paper (well, you could use a pencil, too), but if tails, you'll be doing the WPM's on a word processor. 2) Choose one topic below: > A > My zombie apocalypse survival plan. > B > Windows vs. Linux vs. Mac; which is better and why. > C > Why Am I Even Writing This? (dump your thoughts here) > D > Why I like my favourite movie/novel/whateverart genre. 3) Get your stopwatch, start timing and start writing (in essay form) on your prescribed writing medium (see step 1). There is no time or word limit here, however it is better if something more substantial is to be written. 4) Once you feel that you've completed your thoughts on your written piece, stop the timer and count the number of words you've written. Record the two pieces of info somewhere (I need the time in hh:mm:ss format). . . WAIT: It is recommended that you do the above steps first before proceeding to read and fill out the form in step 5. If you read the form in step 5 first, you will jeopardize the information that the form in step 5 seeks. . . . SERIOUSLY: Do steps 1-4 first, then come back down here. This is science we're talking about here. Well, if you're done with them, then sure, you may pass. . . 5) Copy-paste and fill out the following form (i.e. everything in-between the pluses, including the pluses) and post it in this forum (and delete the stuff in brackets ("[ ]", "< >"), including the brackets themselves), and no, you don't need to post your essays here: ++++++++++ ==|| FORM START ||== Topic chosen: Writing medium: Word count: Time: a) Where do you prefer writing (paper or computer)? If mixed preference, elaborate. b) In what environment did you write in? [i.e. your room, library, outdoors (if indoors, indicate if there was any sun shining through any visible windows or if it was nighttime)] c) How cluttered was your working environment (how messy)? [rate from 1-10 (decimals are accepted); describe how bad/wonderful your working environment was] d) What did you feel while you were writing on your word processor/paper? [how comfortable were you; general emotions] e) Did you encounter any difficulty in sorting out your ideas whilst writing? Please elaborate. f) Did you read this form before you started writing? If yes, why? Tell me. If no, very good! g) Did you fully understand all of the instructions? Don't be shy. kkAATCGx1 ==|| FORM END ||== ++++++++++ Congratulations! You've contributed to science! If you have any suggestions or inquiries (I really feel like I've missed something here), feel free to PM me about it! (I'd really much better prefer PM's over forum posts so as not to clutter up the semi-ultra-subjective data here). All data that is to be posted down here shall be considered open and free to anyone. If you would like to draw your own conclusions, then feel free to grab the data, but make sure to link (or cite) back here! ======================================= Also, despite intending to write a high school-level research paper on this, it's not actually for any research subject. I'm just really bored... and curious. Additionally, is this topic even in the right category? Oh, and belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to y'all!
