Would putting aluminum foil on the windows on the side of the house that gets the most sun be helpful in blocking out the heat of the sun? Our HVAC literally runs all day, from 8am-1am, and we're trying to help cut out some of its work before it goes on strike! If you know what I mean... Any advice?

This future instructable will show you how to make levels that I make or if you have made on I will collaborate the future instructable with you and you can post yours. if you don't want to be colaborated all you have to do is post a picture of your level ,tell me what map you used ,what story line you edited it from. and I will re create it and ad it to this instructable. please do not post a level unless it's some awesome machine ,or if it can actually be beaten. ideas for levels: try to get Gorrilda to the Gurts but lure her to explode bombs to blow them up. Try to make here take a detour so she doesn't. I made one just like that where it shoots a Gurt into space if you don't stop Gorrilda from detonating the bomb. more coming soon... maybe.

I would like to have a way to block a user, or ban a user from commenting on my instructables. Currently you can send a patch, subscribe to, or send a private message to a user. I would like to see a block tool as well. I have had users that started discussion threads on my instructables that become offtopic, or inappropriate. Flagging the individual comments when they post takes time. If we could block them, then it would stop the commenting all at once. Instructables could even use this filter as a guide to see what users consistently are being blocked, and use it to ban users who are abusive.

Why is everyone so hyped up about knex block triggers, you dont have to go to the block trigger instructibles. If you do go to thier instructible you dont have to tell them thier gun sucks. This whole knex gun thing started out as block triggers.Back then Every one liked them and almost every instructible was block trigger. When oodulumps, Mepain, and all the other good knex builders came in,they started making all this cool stuff that was different than block triggers. After they posted all the cool stuff they had going on, new people came in ,and got inspired to make knex guns. They wanted to post thier guns , so they did. And now that all the older people are so tired of block triggers, they send bad comments to people who are new to knex guns. Which I think is wrong because they are at the level of knex guns that we used to be at one year ago. They only difference is that they came later, and dont know as much as we do. If anyone disagrees with my opinion please comment on why you disagree. Sorry if I had any misspelled words in this forum, or if you did not understand. Please tell me if you do not understand and I will fix that.Thank you for reading.

So I want to charge some rechargeable batteries with some solar cells I bought and I heard I should use a blocking diode to prevent the batteries from discharging at night. I have 3 6V, 50mA solar cells in parallel for a 6V, 150mA total. Does anyone have a recommendation for the model number or kind of diode I should use? Preferably one with a very low voltage drop. Or is my solar setup too small to require a diode? I have never done this sort of thing before, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have painted several glass blocks for a craft show. When I put the lights inside and turn the block back over, all the lights fall right to the bottom of the block and the top of the block is not lit. I see yours are lit and most of the ones I see are lit up top. I tried glue dots which only stuck to my nails instead of the glass block. Any suggestions?

If you are familiar with KIWI shoe polish applicator and shine brushes, I have boxes of these birch wood brush blocks that I'd like to use in creating some useful items. These have a small indention on one side that was used for hanging during the lacquering process. I can trim the ends or edges as needed. I've thought of using for shadow box roofs, multiple-sided bowls, etc. but would appreciate any other sensible ideas. Any help is appreciated!!

I shall enlighten you all with a story from my early youth (last year). I suppose I will start off by saying that the art teacher at St. Andrew Jr. School in Antigonish, NS has an unholy amount of Jenga blocks. Thousands and thousands. Don't get me wrong, Mrs. Donna Woolaver is a great art teacher, but she doesn't take her job as seriously as some might say she should. That being said, she often showed up 10-20 minutes later than the rest of my class showed up to class. A disagreement between a few of my peers would often result in a seperation of my class into two sides. A jenga block would be thrown. Everyone ducked under their desks for cover as another great Battle commenced. People running, Blocks flying everywhere. Someone screams. No one cares.Chaos, pure chaos. You'd band together with a group of friends and cover each others asses as you would try to disable someone from the other side. After all the brave ones were injured and broken, the shy and the cowardly would come out from under their desks in utter shock. And the art class would begin. We never got caught. Amen.

I blocked youtube on my router in keywords and the site itself, any time I Google youtube and click on a site without an actual video on it, it gets blocked. But when I go to youtube.com it will open the page with text only (the formatting and photos just go to pot) and then I can still watch the videos, anyone know how to overcome this?

Instructables is blocked at my school. I had it unblocked at one point, and since then it is again blocked. How do I convince the higher ups, principal and IT personnel, that this is a website that the school should be able to access. I teach at a school that teaches high school age students trades like welding, culinary arts, carpentry, graphic design, automotive technology, machine tool, metal fab, masonry, business, nursing, agriculture, and cosmetology. I think I hit all the classes. Instructables would be a great site for students or classes to showcase their work. Suggestions?

I have seen RFID wallets, sleeves, and cards. I like the IDEA of RFID blocking cards that you sandwich your credit cards between. So, my question is thus... If I had two cards made of 21 gauge aluminum and placed them on in the last pocket on both sides of my wallet, would this block the RFID scanners? If not, then what would it take? What just programming some RFID chips and put them in my wallet to eff with the scanners? I know there are things like this in the market, but very over priced. I have contacts in the RFID scanning and deployment world, so it would not be hard for my to get my hands on this stuff. What do you all think!?

So, I got some feedback that my 'ible has some errors in it (which is somewhat expected :D ) I went to the instructable, to do some editing and noticed that the problems are likely coming from and tags that are in the code blocks. I tried to remove them, but they come back when I save. I noticed this happens in *all* my code blocks. Changing the format of text in code blocks makes Instructables unacceptable as a way to share code. Considering the amount of code for many projects on this site, this potentially breaks many of them, or at the very least makes it harder for others to copy the code for their projects. Please make tags repect all formatting within! Thanks, JR

I have an idea for a small leather work project that would utilize mylar film as an RFID signal blocker. I have tried to research the effectiveness of mylar film for this purpose and the consensus opinion seems to be a resounding "Yes, No and Maybe." If anyone can point me to an authoritative source or has personal information relating to this, I would be most appreciative. Thanks Addendum: Much as I anticipated, you have posted a host of excellent answers that gave me a lot of information I hadn't yet considered. For my part, I should have included more information concerning my project in my question. The Skinnerz response reminded me that I have some scraps of fine mesh stainless steel screen termite shield and I will give that a try rather than mylar for my wallet and passport case.

-EDIT- Ok guys I sorry about not getting the pictures up but I do have an explanation. the picture shown was taken with my father's camera as I still cannot find the charging cable for mine. He "needs" his camera for work so I must wait indefinitely until I can "borrow" it to get some more pictures --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Modern Warfare 2 confiscated? No computer or tv until 4 o'clock? what am I supposed to do? Well here's the result of about 3 hours of boredom. Its a single shot shotgun that fires shells, however these shells are a red rod long and hold 3 white rods, plus reloading takes less than 10 seconds with a bit of practice. Range isn't too impressive, roughly 5 metres for 3 white rods and up to about 10 for a yellow. More pictures will be up once I have finished exams on Friday this week, 45º handles FTL!!!

OK, so I've been working on computers for years and have never seen anything like this... neither have any of my colleagues. I am trying to help someone out who has some issues with flash player. Basically flash player is installed on the computer, but whenever I visit youtube or another site with flash, it just shows a black square. I have run every virus scan I can think of (MBAM, Spybot, SAS, McAfee Stinger, HiJack This!, Norton Power Eraser, Kaspersky TDSS killer, Combofix, Avira) and all of them come up with nothing. I have tried reinstalling flash at least 5 times, removing every program that has even a remote possibly of conflicting (using Revo to be sure they are completely removed). I have disabled every startup program on the computer, updated every driver, rolled back, (then updated) every driver, and verified that all hardware is functional. I have also disabled their AV and firewall. Nothing works; except for when the computer is in safe mode. Then everything works fine. Can anyone think of anything I am missing? Thanks! Edit: I did try clearing cache and cookies as well. I also used multiple browsers (including Chrome; which has flash built right into it). I used Firefox portable as well... which should be running separately from any settings in the system. Also; I did Google the heck out of this one before posting, so no lmgtfy links please... ;)

The office building where I work has a conference room that has 4 fluorescent light units, each measuring 28” by 44”. The problem is, one of the four light units is an emergency unit, and is always turned on. So when we want to show power point presentations, etc. the room is never fully dark. With the 3 lights being off, it’s just barely dark enough, and it would be so much better not to have the light from the emergency unit. Due to safety codes, turning off this light is not a realistic option for us. So I was examining it today and was wondering if someone had an idea to construct some sort of temporary “cover” that we can quickly and securely place over this one light unit while we have our power point presentations? The cover would have to be lightweight, secure (we would not want it to fall on any clients!), and I think made of some sort of fireproof material, in case someone forgets it’s up there and the heat from the florescent light tubes doesn’t cause any danger of fire. Each light unit has this metal “grid” that I guess is meant to reflect and disperse the light in an efficient way. This “grid” is made up of smooth 1/8” metal strips, which create 24 empty space “cells”. The inside of the cells measures 7”X5.5” and is 2.75” deep. There is a small clearance between this metal grid and the fluorescent tube lights. And the light unit is 10 feet off the ground. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

Well i'm pretty ambitious in wanting to cosplay a charcter from from favourite tv show Xena : Warrior Princess, no matter how camp and cheesy it is :-P Most of the sewing and basic pieces such as armbands wristbands and the corseted dress are easy enough to do....the difficulty will be in replicating the 'metal armour' especially the breastplate Xena wears...and possibly the Chakram (that round frizbee like throwing thing :P ) So i've been looking around at different methods trying to get an all round idea of the best way to go about it, keeping in mind i'd want to keep this costume forever if possible (with a $2000 price of a Xena costume from Todd's costumes not being ideal) ...i want authenticity, with the armour being a strong and sturdy as possible with a DIY. Saying that the various instructables for Halo seem to be the way to go: Having seen three awesome tutorials that i could definitely see myself end up using: https://www.instructables.com/id/Halo-ODST-Armor-Helmet-Part-1-of-6-of-ODST-Armo/ https://www.instructables.com/id/Using-Paper-Resin-and-Fiberglass-to-be-the-Maste/ https://www.instructables.com/id/Build-Halo-Armor/?&sort;=ACTIVE&limit;=40&offset;=40 Going the Halo armour route honestly seem the easiest. As while i would love to get as close to authentic metal battle armour as possible....there is time, money, and skills to consider. Also through looking here: http://www.therpf.com/f24/need-help-xena-armor-85017/ I've seen that it might be quite possible to create a two piece mould to cast the items. This would involve making a paper mache cast of my chest...creating the shape of the breast plate onto that....removing the breast plate...probably shaped out of nice sturdy lay (or not). From there.....a mould could be cast from the breastplate....probably by something simply enough to mould around the front and the back of the breastplate....pressed to take on it's form and shape. One side would have to be done and dried/cured...the the other ensure the shaped of the breast plate is imprinted correctly and that non of the resin will seep through the mould... Now. I would love ideas for methods, materials, best way to paint to cast as i am a total noob just throwing around ideas at this stage. Some questions: Would it be possibly to use some as a finish so that the breastplate and other items actually feel like they are made of metal (never mind that there filled with resin)? How hard and how brittle would the resin be? Is it just like plastic? Will it break easily? If there is say a bit of side spillage when casting the resin, would it be possible to fix, say cut it off? What about the possibility of using Precious Metal Clay? Wouls it be hard/brittle/expensive/breakable? Is there such a think as bendable resin? (say for the armbands and wristbands) Would it be possible to 'coat' (as you might paint) resin onto the clay breastplate and remove it to create a replica? (without the need for a two part mould in this case)
