Plastic Vehicle Body

Hey, people. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask questions about this sort of thing and I can't find anything on the web on the subject. I guess not too many people want to build a vehicle body from scratch. Anyhow, here's my situation. I have a large mobility scooter which I would like to transform into something nice for a Halloween parade. I can't do anything too fancy or professional looking because I don't have the resources for something like that. What I think I'll do is build a frame over which I'd bolt sheets of plastic that are cut in particular forms. Then I'd paint the whole thing with spray paint and touch up with an airbrush. What I need to know is which materials to use. There are all sorts of plastic out there. I won't be forming anything with heat, so at best I'll only need plastic that's not too thick and has a good surface for painting. Also, I don't know what to use for the frame. If you don't know about the materials, any sort of advice or encouragement would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Carbon bike paste and paint

Hi,my bike orbea orca aero.A piece of stone sprang to the back. The paint was removed. (a small piece)Broken, puncture etc. there is no problem. It's just a paint problem.Color: Pantone bright red C (It is not matte color but glossy.)First version was white in color. I found it from the original color of the bike and painted it inside, but the pit was not filled and roughness remained.problem picture: https://ibb.co/KxQHyZ2In Turkey, no one knows anything about carbon fiber surfaces.I need help. At least which filler is used for the carbon surface, etc.1. Polyester paste 2. Fiber paste 3. Epoxy paste. It is necessary to fill and paint with these pastes. But these substances damage carbon fiber, and I don't know if these substances stick to carbon fiber.I don't know what to do, should I take it to the car body workshop. That's why I'm afraid to go to car body repairers. Maybe they can make it worse. My last resort is to put a sticker on it.Thanks.

I need a skin-safe body paint that cracks. Any ideas?

I have an idea for a cool makeup effect (for Halloween, movie, etc.) but I can't find out what exactly I need.  I need some kind of body paint that tends to crack (not fall off, just crack), that I can pain on my face and move around to crack it up a bit.  I haven't a clue what kind of paint that would be.  Any ideas?  Thank you for any help!

Black Eyed Peas - Rock That Body, Speaker Gun!

So I just watched the music video for Rock That Body by Black Eyed Peas and I thought it'd be a cool idea if someone figured out how to make speaker guns. I'm guessing if someone were to pursue in making one there'd be a audio cord coming out of it to attach to music player and I'd think it'd be cool if the trigger would turn on the speakers. Of course there should be a switch also that turns it on and off so you wouldn't have to hold the trigger. I'd love it if someone came up with an instructable for this. I read that they used nerf guns and speakers and painted it black.

Easy way to strip paint off plastic containers?

I am trying to take paint (printing) off of a plastic container -- the body is a 5 and the lid is a 2. I can do it by hand using sand paper but it is taking a really long time. (And I have 18 containers to strip.) Any suggestions for something that would strip this and not be too crazy with fumes, bad for environment, yadda yadda yadda? Thanks for the help!

has anyone tried to create a real car body out of paper mache?

How would the shell hold up to aerodynamic and general usage pressures? What kind of cost figures would there be? Are there any government grants available to address this idea? I figure once painted and sealed there wouldn't be any problems with weather. I can only imagine that the overall result is a lighter car, improving gas mileage. Additionally, any modifications to the shell would be a lot easier.

Bumpy art sets new trend.

It may not have reached the US yet, or it may have come from there, but there's a new fashion in body art - painting pregnant tums. The two-hour-plus process involves painting pictures from a range of ideas - or the Mum's own ideas - and a professional photo-shoot to preserve the event.(The reporter) was curious to know what kind of people want to invite a stranger to paint on such a personal, and special, part of their body."Anyone who wants a nice memento," said Erica."At the end of the day I think we should celebrate births and bumps."Body painting has always been around, but more people are picking up on this type of body painting now and it's becoming more mainstream."I want to offer it as a service to pregnant women. Guitar Finish? Answered

Hello, I am finishing my electric guitar, and i wet sanded and everything, and i heard rumors that you use rubbing compound on the last bit to get it to look good. In the instructable by Gmoon, applying a mirror finish (by hand), it says that he used Rubbing compound, but people keep saying, "I think you mean POLISHING compound....", and i don't know which one to use. What's the best way to sand and spray paint particle board?

Hi All, Trying to make replacement bases for my floor-standing speakers.  The originals were made out of particle board and appear to have a black spray-paint finish.  They were destroyed in the post when the person sending me the speakers failed to package them properly.  I now have the particle board cut to the right shape and I have begun the process of sanding.  It is my intention to spray a primer on, sand, spray a top coat, and then spray some sort of finish.  so here are my questions: (1) I have sanded the board down with successively finer sandpaper and finished with 1500 grit wet and dry.  This is a very smooth finish until you wipe away the dust at which point it becomes rough-ish again.  Having done a bit of research I am now concerned that I have sanded the board down a bit to much, some forums suggest taking the board down only as far as 250 grit before spraying on the primer.  What should be my finishing grit before spraying on the primer?  My assumption was the finer the better but I'm not too sure now.  If the finish should be fine then how do I remove those stubborn fibers? (2) what type of spray primer works best with particle board?  There seems to be a multitude but most of the information related to car/auto body work.   (3) what grit of paper should I use on the primer? (4) what should I use as a top coat? Much thanks in advance Ross

Making pointy cone-shaped nipple covers...help!

Hi all! New to the board... So I am going to be fire for Halloween to complement my boyfriend's firefighter costume. I will be wearing a lot of body paint, a shelf bra, a skirt, and I will be making cone-shaped Madonna-style nipple covers (maybe I will make them horn/flame shaped I havent decided), that will point upward. I will paint flames on them that will continue on to the rest of my chest in body paint. I need your help in deciding how to make these pointy nipple pieces. I think they will be about 2 inches in diameter and be about 5 inches long. I was thinking of making them out of Polymer Clay and attaching them with Spirit Gum. They will be painted with acrylic. I am not sure if this is the best option or if spirit gum will even hold them in place. Is there a gooey-er adhesive I could use and a different material to make the cones? I am also hoping to make 3-5 smaller cones to paint flames on and attach to my arms. Any ideas? Thanks!! I appreciate all the feedback.

Deadmau5 head with plastic / wood / fiberglass ears? Do I need to mold them using body filler and glass fiber?

I'm going to use deadmau5's cheese head as it is visibly the best for an example. The ears are made of a hardened material with a gloss finish. The holes through them seem to clearly show that they are not foam underneath. I was curious as to how I could achieve the same effect and strength. I've seem some exquisite models of helmets here and in particular individuals who have created the daft punk helmets. They created molds. I've never used fiberglass / body filler / etc but I'm a rapid learner and I'm willing to suffer trial and error like anyone else. I was curious though, if it is possible to take the styrofoam ear and then coat the ear with bondo (or another body filler/putty) to create that hardened mold and then primer, paint and gloss it. Can someone with experience with these materials shed some light. I really want to achieve this look! Here is a video of the cheese head when it was unveiled: Thanks in advance guys. I can be contacted via email at "sip_deco_c@hotmail.com" if required. Help would be greatly appreciated! Peace, Deco

What is the best way to have a clean looking flame thrower on the back of my bike?

My bike is a standard mountain bike and I wanted to give it a more custom look than my paint job. I thought the best way to do this is to add a flamethrower to match my custom paint job which will be a red pinstripe around the flame, when the flame itself is grey. The flames will have skulls airbrushed in it. The rest of the body will be black with a little red pinstriping action. Maybe even some lettering reading : "Beast". probally with the same skull and red paint scheme. I want the flamethrower to fit in with everything else well, but I don't want to change the frame much, or paint the flamethrower.

Could cleaning with bleech on lead paint cause temporary stroke like symptoms and fetal distress? ? Answered

I rent my home. When I moved here with three children, I was told there was no lead paint. Seven years later, I became pregnant. While cleaning, I used bleech to clean walls and floors and shelves and windows. I also scraped and repainted some areas. One night, I went to the store with my eldest daughter and had slight pain and numbness on one side of my body. I also couldnt speak properly or complete a responsive answer with correct words. My sentences were inappropriate. It lasted about 24 hours and got better. I felt extremely fatigued but blamed pregnancy. A few days later, I was sick, enormously fatigued and had sharp abdominal pain unlike labor. I went to the hospital and my baby's heart rate was failing. He was dieing. He was taken by emergency c-section, two months early and recovered in the newborn intensive care for three weeks. I recently found out that the home i rent does indeed contain lead paint and probably a good deal of it. The home owner found out about a state program that would come in and do all kinds of renovations for free if he signed up. Then he discovered that he would have to pay the back taxes on the home and cover the cost of the inspectors and opted not to have the lead removed. I am still living here with my children.

Instructables Robot Costume: Any Suggestions?

Alright, this is going to play a major role in the making of my Halloween costume this year, which will be documented and an iBle will be made. And after thinking it over, I've decided to just go ahead an tell you what it is of, to ward off confusion. I will attempt to make the Instructables Robot! So, for my costume, I need to make a head, body, and wrap around pieces for the arms and legs. Here's what I plan to use: Head: Just a box, I'll paint the eyes and mouth on. A ball for the "ears", coat hanger for the antennae. Body: This is where I'm stuck at. I don't know how to make a body that will fit me and is the right shape. I've PMed a member, and he thought that I should form newspaper in a bathtub, and make it fairly thick. This sounds like a great idea, but I don't know if I could make it look like Robot. Then I thought of forming the paper over formed chicken wire, but I don't know if the wire would hold its shape. Any suggestions? Arms and legs: Haven't really paid much attention to these, but I would probably just form some newspaper. I'd paint and detail it all. I'd probably hook a bicycle helmet into the head, to secure it. I'd run some rope or cord to secure the body. I'd wear skates, but my neighborhood isn't one for skating, in the dark. Anyway, I'm the worst skater. I really appreciate your help!

Question regarding Light

Hi guys! I had this strange question in my mind from a long time, but i have to yet get a satisfactory answer: What is the difference between a naturally emitted colour and a colour which is generated by covering the light source with a translucent cover of a particular colour? For example: I have a Blue LED whose body/case is actually transparent but on supplying power emits the colour blue naturally. On the other hand, i have a LED which emits a white colour on powering up. Suppose i put some kind of blue translucent film on it, or a translucent paint. I will still get a blue-colour. What are the differences of colour emitted in these two cases?

Can you suggest anything else. This will be my first armor craft. Also i have been thinking about Goldy's Alphonse elric armor tutorial. I'd like to make a homemade log marker for chainsawing firewood.? Answered

There are products on the market that are basically a wheel attached to a spray paint can.  As you roll he wheel over a log, it marks the log every X inches.  You need to buy different wheels for different marking lengths. Basically, the plan is to have a log marked every X inches so we know where to cut it for perfect firewood length logs.  Alternate tools available are measuring sticks that attach to your saw, but they are awkward and limit your saw to only making firewood (you can't use it to cut down or limb up the trees with the attachment). I normally use the saw length (on my 18" saw), or the body length (on my 32" saw) for a guide, but a spraypaint thingy would be much simpler.

Seeking advice: I'm building fake snow sculptures/figures and want your ideas please!!!

Hi all, (I had posted this question in a different forum but I think this one is the more appropriate one for such questions - thank you CAITLINSDAD for your response, included below) I'm making a series of life-sized figures for a show; they are meant to look like they have been carved from packed snow. The designer has purchased mannequins and would like me to sort out a way to make the clothing stay rigid and the final scenic paint coat to look like snow. I'm seeking your thoughts and ideas, here's what I have so far: 1) wrap blanket foam and chicken wire around the arms, legs and torso and then put the clothes on the mannequin, cover the clothes in epoxy resin or fiberglass. 2) same as above but use FGR Hydrocal 50 instead of resins. 3) expandable spray foam the body and then carve back to sculpt the clothes. 4) forget the mannequins and instead carve the whole figure out of foam blocks. 5) for the final texture coat use spray glue and flocking If you have better ideas, tricks or techniques I would love to hear them please! I'm attaching a reference image I found online - this is pretty much what I'm trying to achieve. Many thanks, Damian. ---------- FROM CAITLINSDAD: "I think you would be fine in creating any armature that would be structurally sound since it will be covered over, flocked or painted. Maybe try a drywall compound sprayer to coat the piece. You can experiment with the styrofoam texture "orange peel ceiling look " additives to give it the snowy icy look. Good luck."

Making a dwarf welding helmet out of fiberglass.

Hey everyone, I've been thinking about a new project lately. And for that I need a lot of tips. So here is what, why and how. Introduction: I'm currently making a welding helmet out of an old beer keg as in the instructable of bricobart. When I started with it I though about using the keg as sheet material to make a papercraft mask, probably Dr. Doom or the ABC warrior Hammerstein from the first Judge Dredd movie. I quickly realised it wouldn't provide me the result I like to have, so now I'm just making the 'simple' version from bricobart. But I don't give up that easily. I also want to make something out of fiberglass and epoxy resin for a while, just to have the experience and to try it. So my quest for the perfect helmet/mask continued. I found Fallout helmets, which have tubing on which I could attach a breathing device. But finally I came to this Erebor helmet from the Hobbit. The plan: The plan is to make the Erebor helmet with a hinged visor. I am planning on using several pepakura helmet models and combine them to make the helmet suitable for my welding purpose. The hinged visor and all other mechanics like that I can work out myself. The paper helmet will then be covered with epoxy and fiberglass as can be seen in several other instructables. To make it smooth and for details, I will use car body filler. (I already know EVA foam is the better choice for the helmet, but I don't trust is with the temperature of the welding and I read things about epoxy resins not werking properly on EVA foam.) However, I never used epoxy resin/fiberglass/car body filler or any of these kind of materials. So therefor I need al the help I can get from here. What kind of stuff is suitable for my welding helmet due to high temperature (gradient)? What is the best way to go so all parts will connect properly? Is it wise to start this project?(Please don't answer no, because I will probably won't listen). Painting tips, epoxy tips, general tips etc. Thanks in advance.

Idea: drive your paper dream car!

Here's an idea I had but realistically won't have time to work on. Okay, so there are these things called kit cars that have been around for years.  Basic idea being, you put a cooler looking body on your regular everyday car.  Neat idea but even the cheap ones start about 3 grand!  That's a lot of money for a raw chunk of fiberglass to add to car not worth half that.  Also there are other disappointments like: good luck getting the exact design you want that just happens to fit your make/model. Now in seemingly unrelated news these cosplay people have figured out how to (ab)use some software called pepakura to print out life-sized paper models of swords and armor and stuff.  Then to make them useable they fiberglass them, bondo and paint... HEY!  WAIT A MINUTE!  That's all car autobody stuff! You see where I'm going with this. Thus, therefore, and in conclusion my suggestion is that you do the following: 1) Watch "The Hero Tutorials" on youtube.  Pretty much the definitive guide for the paper cosplay thing. 2) Print out a lifesize copy of the batmobile or whatever and tape it to your car. 3) Do the autobody thing for tedious weeks on end. 4) Post an instructable in a contest I'm entered in and swipe the prize right from under my nose. 5) I feel sad at having become the instrument of my own undoing... yet console myself over the fact that the net awesomeness of the universe has increased significantly.

C3 Corvette Stingray to Flex Fuel/Swapping engines? Or, Tell my if my boyhood fantasy can be a reality

Short story: How hard would it be to drop a new, maybe flex-fuel, oh-say-maybe-an Impala engine into a C3 Corvette? Long story: I love Corvettes. A lot. I have decided to save up enough money over the next two years to purchase a C3 (1968-82) Corvette, and bring it up to modern motoring glory. I've been poking around, and looks like I can get a POS for about 10-15 grandios americanos. ANYWAY I'd like to replace the old engine with a nice new fuel injected, computer controlled, more efficient engine then whatever is inside. All I'm really after is the body. Frumpy 70's interior and matching engine numbers be screwed. My question to you: Several new Chevys are flex fuel, how hard would it be to get a wrecked car (I'm thinking an Impala might be about right), take out the engine and computer control goodness, and stick it in said 'Vette? My plans for the Corvette, I'm thinking a '80-'82 if I have choice, I'd totally get a '64 split window, but they be EXPENSIVE: ~Complete interior overhaul; brushed aluminum dash (retro-motorfied-Apple-esque?), sound system etc... ~New paint job; blue with silver racing stripes (like the new Shelby Cobra, reversed) ~New engine, and what ever mechanical tune-ups are required. ~I might make the sunroof removable ~Whatever else comes to mind in my owner ship of the most awesome thing on 4 wheels Thanks!!

Build your own demo of a particle accelerator!

This was originally posted by an I'bles user in the "Feedback" forum. I've suggested he repost his questions under Science, and hope to answer them there. In the mean time, this video from the March 2008 issue of Symmetry Magazine (a joint SLAC/Fermilab publication) is really cute. The original article's video includes a bunch of related items which are worth checking out themselves. The high voltage (at least 50kV, I think) DC supply needs to be pretty stable -- you can't just throw a rectifier bridge onto a wall cord, but other than that, the project would be extremely simple to build. I've sent Dr. Johnson an e-mail to see if I can get more detailed specs. Update 4 Jan 2009: Todd Johnson and I have exchanged a couple of e-mails about this project (d**n, I love the collegiality of the scientific world!). For the DC power supply, he used a potted module (i.e., an enclosed unit with no accessible or dangerous components) designed for use in a negative ion generator (like the "Ionic Breeze"). He bought the unit surpus from http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prodinfo.asp?number=G9695 . The bowl you see in the video was custom made from acrylic. I thought something like a Pyrex mixing bowl would work, but the "corner" where the flat base joins the spherical body introduces a barrier to the ball doing what it should do. The coating on the ping-pong ball is something called http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prodinfo.asp?number=G16133 "wire glue"], touted as a substitute for solder. For this project, he covered the conductive paint with some clear Krylon for protection. Dr. Johnson and I are discussing the possibility of collaborating on an Instructable for this project. As a result of the video publicity, he's already gotten some inquiries on how to build it, so this would be an appropriate venue. He has a substantial amount of performance data and physics background on the device, which we will include in the ultimate publication.

a Blucky corpse

stage 1 ok, so i have begun.the Blucky i chose to work on is a bargain basement Blucky, literally. when i made the trek to the Spirit Store and Party City last October, i happened upon some marked down Bluckies. they were 10 bucks, and not guaranteed to not fall apart in the store, lol. so i got a buggy and picked up a couple of them. the cashier pointed out that they were defective, did i still want them? of course i did! 10 bucks instead of 12, for something that i'm going to probably screw up anyway...so the 1st order of business is to fix the defective joints. i decided to disassemble it, and fill the bones with spray foam insulation. then re-assemble. hoping this will meld the pieces together well, and add a little weight. nothing looks faker than a Blucky blowing in the wind!it is laid out on the counter at the shop. the customers kept giving me strange looks.. can't imagine why! so i figure the excess that is oozing out can easily be trimmed away. i do have a back-up plan in case the spray foam won't hold firmly enough. it involves hot glue. hopefully it won't come to that though... the panty hose i plan on applying next should bind things well.STAGE2so today i began stage 2 of the Blucky. cutting his arm and leg bones to more closely resemble an actual body. i used my Dremel, and a razor knife to trim them up. i made a HUGE mess, and had fun. i'm sure i didn't do such a great job on this, but it is my 1st time. STAGE3so today i tackled stage 3 of teh Blucky corpsefication, carving the skull and ribs.ummm. it is MUCH harder to do the ribs than the skull, let me tell you! the dremel tends to 'get away from you' on the long curves of teh ribs. my carpal tunnel didn't help matters any, either! it's kinda crappy looking in fact... i am rather disappointed with myself. luckily they wont all be visible after the pantyhose goes on! the teeth proved to be difficult too. Danny said it looked fine, though. i do have some pics somewhere...we went to Lowe's last night and got some carpet latex to coat it with. the girl in the flooring department thought we were crazy at first, then warmed up and was interested in our projects and plans. she wants us to bring some pics by in fact!here are some of the how-to's i'm using as inspiration:http://hauntforum.com/showthread.php?t=8659http://www.fulcrumsites.com/haunt/html/corpsification1.htmlhttp://skullandbone.com/tutorial_02.htmiam kinda mixing and matching techniques. i'll be using paper towels or toilet paper, pantyhose, cotton balls, great foam, maybe cheesecloth and various colors of stains/paints.the hair my Blucky will have is Grade A. i had my long hair cut off, and instead of donating it this time, i plan to utilize it. the hair dresser kept asking me if i was sure i wanted her to cut it, she said it was "beautiful and so healthy!" i imagine i'll have to distress it little so it will look like it belongs on a rotted corpse. LOL!!!!i'm wondering... does anyone ever put remnants of rotten clothing onto their Bluckies they corpsefy?STAGES 4 & 5ok. so i worked on Blucky today at work. first i taped up the arm and leg bones that i had cut out with the dremel. this is probably a useless step... but i think i was trying to stall actually getting going with the scary part- the latex.i used some masking tape i bought at wal mart in the paint department. then i applied the pantyhose. this part caused customers to stop what they were doing and come watch. Josh and I struggled with it until we got 1 set on the right way, and one set on upside down, covering the arms and head. we overlapped the torso with both sets.now came the scariest part. donning the gloves and applying the latex. it stinks! i put down a couple of trash bags and dove in... globbing and smearing until it was covered. i had to warn customers away from it, so Blucky wouldn't stick to them! one guy nearly bumped into it, just walking by. maybe i should have done this step in the back room, away from people. i hope he turns out ok... hair, stain and paint are the next steps, when he dries out. STAGE 6so i stained Blucky. i think i got a lil heavy handed with the stain... but he is my 1st ever, so it's all good! i bought MinWax mahogany gel stain and a large pack of cheap brushes (getting my Lowes connection price of course- dented can)i placed Blucky's feet into a large box. having stained my kitchen cabinets once, i expected a HUGE mess... but the gel is marvelous! NO DRIPS AT ALL!i did get a little splattered onto my left hand and forearm, but that is because i'm a slob, LOL.several customers wandered over to watch, and inquire about him... several seemed genuinely interested in our Halloween obsession! a couple of kids who were there were thrilled, and assured me he looked totally gross! only 1 customer questioned why we were working on Halloween in February. this is a far cry from last year when i was detailing the tombstones at the shop and had people looking at me as if i were crazy... maybe i'm rubbing off on them, or maybe they are used to my eccentrics by now, LOL!Josh and i left the shop at 6, and Danny stayed over a few minutes, (he's painting truck parts in the back room) he said when he walked back through the empty, half-lighted, locked shop he caught Blucky out of teh corner of his eye and it spooked him! a sure sign of a job well done! anyway, i suppose Stage 7 for Blucky will be eyes... or LED's. definitely an LED in the chest cavity. this will be up to Danny, as i don't do wiring (yet, lol) so the ball is in his court!my motto? the couple who haunts together, stays together!

Need help finding easy materials for Pyramid Head (Silent Hill 2/Movie) costume!

I know there are a few topics and instructables on how to make a Pyramid Head costume already, but mine's going to be a bit different. I'm going to sort of be mixing costume styles of the Pyramid Heads from the Silent Hill movie, and the second Silent Hill game where he made his debut. I have past experience with this costume, actually. In fact, it was the first costume I ever made myself. My mom and I originally made the helmet out of posterboard and duck tape, but it didn't hold up so well after a while, plus it had a problem where it would get somewhat lopsided, or if I turned my head, the helmet would stay in place. This is because there was nothing inside the helmet to support my head when I turned it, or to keep it to where it moved and stayed upright with my head. The robes I made out of a bloody labcoat/doctor's coat with ripped off sleeves, and a bloodied cook's apron. draped over it to conceal the buttons. Made it look kind of odd with the layering, but I worked with it. I used a pair of white female dress gloves with it, because they looked alot like his. Anyway, this year I was wanting to revamp the costume, and add in a bit more detail, change the style a little. I was wanting to make his helmet more like the Movieverse's helmet', with the sharper angle, and grating on the sides. But I wanted to keep the apron that he had from the second game, since I don't really have the figure for the really ripped PH from the movie. So I come to you all for help. :) I need suggestions for this.  I'm also working on a bit of a budget, and I'm not at all good at woodworking. So I can't use anything like fiberglass or actual metal, I don't believe. I want it to look good, look pretty authentic and recognizable, something people could come up to in conventions and say " Dude, that's awesome", but with easy to find and work with materials. I've never sewn in my life, either, so that's out. My first one I'd like is for his helmet. I already have a decent idea of how to make it. This time I'll probably be working with super glue instead of duck tape this year. Duck tape's a miracle tool, but there's only so far it can go in certain rare situations. Something like a helmet the size of a small child requires a certain amount more work. For the helmet, I'm probably going to be using window mesh like the kind used in certain windows or porch doors for the grating on the sides of the helmet. I got that as a suggestion from another instructable, and after a bit of testing how well I can see through it, I think I can work with it. I think assembling it will be easy. I may tape it together first just to see what it'd look like fully constructed before I glue it, though. My main issue with the helmet will probably be support. I need to be able to turn my head, have it move with me and my body when I'm turning around and navigating certain areas. Does anyone have any suggestions on a way to make it do that? Again, it can't be incredibly expensive. ( About more than 20-25 dollars in this case scenario.) A second bit of help I'd need is his skin. Now, my skin's naturally very pale, but there's the problem of hair. I could try applying some kind of makeup to it, but I imagine it'd smudge badly by the end of the day. If I did that, I'd probably have to wax my arms first. x.x The problem with that is that people would probably want to hug me throughout the day, and I'd be smudging makeup on their clothes. Another idea I had was trying to find a white leotard or something similarly tight-but-thin to use as his skin. I'd be able to dirty it up a bit to make it look like his. Only problem is, I don't know where to get one. There aren't any specialty stores around in a fifteen mile radius that I know of that would sell them, and I can't order online for specific reasons. Does anyone know of any widely known store that would possibly sell leotards, or something similar that I could use to cover my upper and lower body? I know white hose or thin white stockings would work for his legs, but it's the arms and upper body that are bugging me. The last bit of help I'd need is for the Great Knife, his BFS. I think I'll also be making it out of thick posterboard, possibly layered with cardboard as well, painted silver. But I wanted to know if there's a better way. I made a really ramshackle Great Knife before out of posterboard, but in retrospect, it resembled more of a giant paddle. XP It's not much diffirent from a buster sword, but most of the Buster Sword instructables I see here are only with wood. And again, horrible at woodwork.  For the handle of the blade, I was probably going to use the handle of a paintbrush or large cleaver. Anything better you all would suggest? Sorry this is such a long read, but I desperately need the help, and I wanted to get a head start on it before October (the date of the next convention in east TN, I think. And Halloween. ). Thank you in advance to anyone who can offer suggestions. Again, I'm working on a bit of a budget, though. The most I can spend per item is about 20-25 dollars. Shameful as it is to say, I normally get most of my material for costumes from thrift stores, surplus stores, and flea markets. I feel bad that I can't sew or do woodwork like the awesome cosplayers and craftsmen on the site.

Steampunk Volkswagen anyone?

Dear Fellow Instructable Steampunk aficionados, I'm starting plans for my biggest steampunk project ever... a steampunk Volkswagon Beetle!;-) We haven't bought it yet, but my wife and I are heading to Brazil for the summer, and are planning on buying an old VW Beetle, (or a "Fusca" as they affectionately call them locally), to bum around in a sleepy beach town. These cars were once very popular in Brazil, but have been replaced by far more fuel efficient, and largely ethanol powered cars. So an old Beetle can be had for cheap... And my wife has given me the okay to go ahead and steampunk it out to my hearts delight! My initial plans are for purely cosmetic changes. (I'm not planning on installing a steam-powered engine any time soon, although that would certainly be cool;-) I've seen Jake Von Slatt's photos and videos of his steampunk car project, but I thought I'd check with the folks on Instructables to see if anyone has any suggestions. (And when I say anyone, I put heavy stress on my German steampunk colleagues;-) All suggestions (and photos) are welcome! Please post here... Will keep you posted on my progress. Best, Winged Fist Update: 6/27/12 (An eventful day) Today we became the proud owners of a 1975 Volkswagen Beetle! The body is a bit beaten with a few signs of rust, but I'm told that the engine is sound, the electrical work is good and the tires are pretty new. If all goes as planned, I'll get to drive it for the first time next week, when I arrive in Brazil. (Then let the steampunking begin;-) Today I also became a member of the VWoodies user group on Yahoo. Lots of great pictures and inspiration for modifying an old VW Beetle. And the moderator, Senhor California, has an amazing 70s model Beetle he has completely modified into a Woody, which he keeps in Brazil! (In my opinion it has quite a steampunk flare to it). And not coincidentally, today I received in the mail my Hula Girl bobble dashboard ornament, and my California Pacific VW Parts and Accessories catalog from jbugs.com It's looking like this car is going to take on a steampunk/woody/surfer theme... Update: 7/23/12 Well it's been exactly a month since I posted this query, and I'm proud to report that this project is almost complete! After almost two weeks of non-stop renovating and remodeling, scraping sanding and painting, our quasi-steampunk, faux-woody VW Beetle is nearly finished! There are still a few details to finish, (like getting the driver's door to stay closed when we're driving;-), but other than that I'm very pleased with the way this old bug has turned out! This past weekend, she took her maiden voyage, sporting her new look - to the beach of course. (Praia Linda, in the Lake Region of Rio de Janeiro, in case your interested). The one unsolicited comment we overheard was that she looked like an old armoire... and not in a good way;-) The transformation from a bricklayer's workhouse to a beach woody was a laborious one, but now our '75 Fusca can spend her golden years carting beach chairs, coolers and kayaks instead of hauling bricks and cement;-) I plan to post a full Instructable on this project, but for now, wanted to give those interested a taste of the nearly finished product. (I'm also amazed with how much the finished product resembles the photoshop rendition I created, before I ever laid eyes on the car).

Is my book good ?

Well i hate to bother anyone but can you please take some time to read this book i worked hard on ? i spent  countless hours of my free time over the weekend developing the plot and creatures so can you please take some time out to read the whole thing tell me what it needs or what would be good i already am 16 pages into the sequel so tell me if this is good so i can post the sequel ! enjoy Times come by Alby Chapter 1- beginning It was the night I would never forget, the night.......i....the......the last night I would enjoy life. It was spring of 2017 the night air was heavy in my lungs and you could faintly smell the BBQ and charcoal smoke from cookouts that died down hours ago I could here people talking and having a good time but I think my drink I grabbed the wrong beer it was Sarah's it was spiked I never would have noticed who did it at least it wasn't her to drink it. I simply enjoyed the sky line of Chicago filled with sky scrapers and mirror like office buildings it all seemed like a Bokeh picture to me the drug is taking affect on my body I feel dizzy . I hopped on the train, it was empty as for the weather gave a good reason to walk but I needed to get home safely. In about 30 minutes I was home. I clumsily walked up the stairs and almost fell it took about ten minutes before I opened the door, I then plopped down on my bed and ran to the bathroom and regurgitated everything I ate that night. i starred at the ceiling. I saw every detail to the nearest centimeter and then blurry the specks the marks swirled in my vision and I felt weightless for a while. I starred at the clock and noticed it was about 4:00 am and cursed myself for going to that bar with Sarah I threw up all over my bed. I tried to grab the phone to call the paramedics but I fell and hit my head on my night stand. I passed out from the concussion i fell into a deep sleep a very deep sleep. Chapter 2 Change I wiped the crust out of my eyes and felt my head a sharp pain rippled thru my scalp it was a Gash about two inches in length. i walked into the bathroom I pulled the faucet but all that came out was a wisp of air. I snatched a baby wipe and cleaned off my face I cleaned my wound with alcohol the sting ive gotten used to I used to get hurt pretty bad in the army, I got shrapnel in my knee and they sent me home the first year. I noticed a dead silence on the street I thought they probably closed it off for some type of repair. I put on my white tee shirt and noticed its softness and how it fit snug on my semi-muscular figure I was in good shape for a twenty-four year old, my mom would always tell me most of the people in America are fat but I guess she loves to tell stereotypes for what they are. I put on my jeans and not forgetting the belt this time either. I snatched my keys off the kitchen counter and headed for the door. I walked outside and paused too look at the empty streets filled with litter and carnage . My mouth wide open in amazement I asked myself what happened and pondered the different reasons riot, panic, fire what could cause such a mess, I walked towards a police squad car and smelled something rancid I slowly proceeded, I instantly veered back in panic I could not believe what I saw a dead police officer lying face down with half a chunk blown clean off his head. There were pieces of it every where splattered on the windshield and door of the police car and some on the concrete. I instinctively inched towards him and thought to myself that something bad is happening and I need protection. I unhooked his holster off his waist and placed it on mine I pulled off his Kevlar vest and put it on weirdly enough it barely was messy or smelled bad. I checked the pockets of the vest and took out a pair of keys I knew it belonged to his squad car. I first popped open the trunk and saw it glistening in the sun a Ar-15 assault rifle. I picked it up and the memories of my army training it just instantly popped into my mind. I guess it applied the same here, I slung it around my back and walked into the silence. I took out the pistol put in the clip pulled the slide back and switched the safety off and cautiously held it. I believe the gun made me more nervous than whats in the shadows, I walked down the narrow street and saw it the skyline of the city filled with smoke and fire. I stood in anger and confusion my home town ravaged broken and charred blood stained the streets and walls, but why.....why....how could this... I mean what could....d..do such a thing. I walked away in the opposite direction and then cut into an alley way to piss and paused as I heard a roar I looked up and saw a quick glance of the belly of a apache attack craft it quickly zoom by and then another. I looked away and ran out of the alley and then down the street to see what direction they were heading. They sped towards the lake area and then I saw a tiny black object fall horizontally from the choppers belly and it slowly fell, then a explosion. I could feel the vibrations. the explosion ripped the lake area into nothing....nothing..but....but...smoke. My heart skipped a few beats thinking what if the next one falls in this area I quickly broke my daydream and bolted as fast as I could as far as I could until I saw a woman crawling on the concrete she was Moaning and holding her stomach. I came up behind her and asked for help. She turned on her back “ Sarah? Ohh my god sarah are you okay ?” and she held a gun in her hand a Glock 22 model the slide locked all the way back and no clip in the gun. I kicked it out of her and and sprung on her she begged for mercy “albert you have to stay away from me im turning” she saw that I was armed and quickly told me the gun was unloaded and that she was sorry she told me she would do anything just get away from her . I told her “Im not here to hurt anyone I just want to help” I starred at her beautiful figure her perfect face and thin hourglass body but ragged cloths and red eyes from crying. How and what did she go thru that could turn her into such a wreck. She got up and put her arm around my shoulder kissed me on the cheek and passed out. I dragged her to an fenced off alley where there was a mattress I put her down and sat next to her .she hugged me and began to cry she than jumped on top of me “Sarah what are you doing no we cant do this now no!” I told her I will help her but I dont think she understood a word I said. She looked at me in my eyes I could feel her touch my soul, her blue eyes glared in the sun. “i dont want to die alone please” I stood up nervously, I was concerned for her health when suddenly I heard a bang then felt a sharp pain in my leg. I collapsed in agony and saw the cause of my pain a bean bag round I looked up and saw a gas mask wearing figure he shot me with another bean bag round in the knee, from his shot gun he then walked over my numb body and. picked up both bean bag's and threw it aside two people in hazmat gear grabbed Sarah and took off her clothing I screamed “what are you doing to her!!!” they did not acknowledge me they looked at her body like they where searching for something. Her passed out figure limp as a rag doll they removed her pants then her underwear I screamed “No!! you son of a bitch don't do it ill kill you” they studied a bite mark on her upper thigh they made some type of hand signal and left. the soldiers then they came and started pouring gasoline on the mattress and her body. the one with the kriss super V took his cigarette out of his mouth and then flicked it at her it rolled of of her shapely belly and hit the mattress her body bursted into flames and she spasmed and kicked wildly. Then the man pointed it me and said in a British accent “ knock that fuckin Yankee an put em in da ACP double time, thoes hungry bastards are comin” Chapter 3 world gone mad I awoke on a bed in clean clothes and a hair cut. I stood up and walked into the hallway and noticed that this was a hospital. Suddenly a hand grabbed me. “aey where do you think your going ya damn runner rapist” I starred at him & his arrogant look and heavily customized ACR bushmaster. “get the fuck away from me im leaving what ever the hell this place is” he then sprung up and pushed the barrel of his ACR into my neck. “look if you want to get devoured by those runners be my guest buddy but dont go exposing this place to the infection” I looked at him like he was retarded “infection what infection and why the hell is the army bombing populated areas” he looked at me the same way. “ where were you 2 days ago ? There was a virus it was originally H1N1 but it evolved up to 10 times now its got Chicago by the balls and its spreading across the world as we speak turning everyone into animals devouring and ripping people to shreds and then the virus takes over the dead body and brings it back as a runner also know as a fresh undead body that has the ability to run or sometimes sprint god forbid but after 2-4 weeks without food the tissue breaks down from constant use without fuel and they start to get slow and shuffle around” my mind felt overwhelmed I wondered how my parents were doing in Dallas. “so what am I supped to do here but be a waste of space” he grinned. “well you obviously know how to use a weapon and our records say you have been in the military. you cant take care of yourself out there so we will make you part of out kill squad. “kill squad ?” “ohh shit you mean you have never killed or seen any infected yet ? that means your fresh you can be put to good use in our kill team” he told me his name was henry the specialist of his team kill team Charlie-mike. He directed me to the staff sergeant who looked at me and said “well well well we got some fresh meat hope you ready for 3 months of hard core trainin cuz this wont be easy now get yo ass in the garage and clean every APC tire the armory I think the kill teams ran over a little too much runners” 3 Months later........ the training was more rigorous than the basic military stuff a the armory where there was at least a 100 others conversing and grabbing into boxes of gear. Henry took me to the gunny of the armory where he helped me choose my gear. I picked up dragon skin Kevlar with implanted ceramic & alloy inserts. I took some gloves which I cut the fingers of. My boots where the basic digital camo color probably a left over from the war in Iraq which ended several years ago when our president simply drew the troops out. And European troops and some Russians finished off the big time terrorists soon after we heard no more from any our genocidal efforts finally payed off. I went to the weapon stand where I had to fill out a ID sheet to make sure they knew I had training with combat rifles. I chose the ACR which was in stock by the thousands as a gift from the weapon companies to the American army. I pulled all the safety clips and then grabbed a eotech scope out of a box and locked it onto the rail system of the weapon. I attached a mag pull the every one of my carbon strength reinforced clips. The gunny looked at me with a grin and we left for briefing. Chapter 4 things get messy we met up in the garage of the hospital every runner hunter of this kill force a total of 300 men and women in the huge elevated parking complex of the hospital, a general arrived in the elevator his chrome glasses shined in the evening light so did the many badges pinned on his suit which fit his old figure rather awkwardly. he had two formally dressed men with him they both had desert eagles on there side holsters but the general had a FN 2000 slung around his back. it was worn and scratched its polymer body was embedded with and insignia that I did not see so well as it was obscured by the scuffs and grime he looked at us and smiled his mouth opened and he flung his cigar off the ledge of the building he then begun and explained in a dominant voice. “there are 40 spec op Humvee's set up in formation ready to patrol the streets of Chicago you all will be in sector 6 the most dangerous sector of Chicago but no need to worry we have full fledged firepower of 4 APC's which will Carrie your kill team to your objectives take as much time as needed the runners arent going any where. you will clear the sears tower area a hot spot for runners. look all you men and woman, its time to revolt and fight back. its time to say we will not be scared, we will not be intimidated, we will win back our freedom!!” the whole complex light up with cheer. As the two men in formal wear took out PDA's and started directing people to there kill teams the first man shouted “ Chavez,Williams, buck, and,Samson go to APC #1” I quickly advanced thru the crowd to APC 1 I slowed my pace and saw its matte paint job of digital camo and its pop up dillan machine gun turret mounted on top. I pounded on its steel behind and its back door unlatched I stood waiting for the rest of my team I saw all three walking in a line towards the door I saw him ,the man with the kriss super V he smiled at me and said “no fuckin way you tha yankee we picked up in tha alley way you mad cus we killed your little runner girlfriend” I sprung towards him and grabbed his collar and punched him in the stomach then elbowed him in the mouth all the color drained out of his face. “ if you wouldn't of shot me with a fucking bean bag I would of blown your brains out back at the alley” he looked at me and with blood dripping down his mouth “i was just doing my job. welcome to foxtrot 3 by my names john samson you can just call me hunter” I let him go and he limped into the APC then another walked towards me he wore a Grey baklava and tight fitting clothing and a vest that barely covered his chest which awkwardly bulged out he walked towards me and took off the mask. She looked at m surprised face and said “what ? a woman cant be in the military” “well I..I...I just did not expect to have such a high rank personnel on our team” she looked at me and frowend “were both specialists grade one my names Kelly williams” “a heavily armored male in a hijab walked towards me playfully he came up to me and pulled off his hijab he was a African American . “hey specialist now look Im basically here to keep the moral you catch me ? I was in the navy im Ricky buckman Just call me squid now what do you want to go by kid?” I smiled “echo” “nice choice” Albert “echo” chavez I thought in my head I figured that sounds good. We all jumped in the APC while a kill team of rangers in a heavy Humvee with a mounted sentry gun rolled behind us as the whole convoy of kill force 6 prepared for battle. I thought about all my training aim for the head, short controlled bursts a shot anywhere else just stunned them. They move fast so they have to be neutralized if you get bitten or infected kill yourself with the poison capsule that was given or a team mate would do it. I grabbed a Kukri blade off the weapon rack that was provided in the APC I looked at its razor sharp edge its brushed steel surface reflected no light I sheathed it and strapped it to my leg. I caught the eye of Kelly who was fiddling around with the UAV control panel she looked at me and smiled. The APC's lights blinked red prompting us that we are in a hot zone. The APC vibrated as the co pilot took out a pack of runners with the Dillon remote controlled mini gun. We all loaded our weapons and packed up some ammo. Hunter and squid looked at each other and they bumped fists. I put a clip in my ACR and cocked it I turned on the eotech scope and strapped on my helmet and then slid on a black baklava. The APC driver prompted a alarm which was the signal that the door was opening, the big metal door slowly lowered its platform to the ground and we all got out Kelly was the last one out she grabbed that control panel and slid it into her bag she ran out and flipped the close button on the APC. We met up with the four other teams in our sector who already exited there Humvee's. A black Humvee that I never knew was in the convoy rode up and a military adviser jumped out and barked orders like some scared little dog and then jumped back in glad that he wasn't us. He positioned eight snipers on the roof who where each divided into teams of four they zip lined up the roofs and soon each team where picked up by two little bird helicopters the rest of us where on the ground either Humvee calvary hit teams or long range grenade support foxtrot was positioned on the magnificent mile at least it was magnificent. We cautiously walked down the street with another team of 6 watching our back and little birds with snipers covering us and telling us where the nearest pack is. It was empty until we got a report a pack of twenty runners where heading straight for us about 3 blocks away we had about a minute to prepare, snipers took out some and only six broke there steady aim and where 5 feet away, I drew my weapon and just before I could fire a Humvee rammed half the pack of runners over my team shot at there heads to finish them off . I stunted back and fell startled by a runner with broken legs dragging its smelly corpse towards me, my team did not even notice as they where pre occupied with finishing off the pack it grabbed my boot and pulled itself onto my chest I pushed it back and hunter tackled it and shot it once it grazed its ear he then rad up to it and curb stomped its head in over and over, like an egg it crunched under his boot he then walked towards me and picked me up and then our comm's screeched with a danger code: sector red REPEAT SECTOR RED!! this is not a drill!! squid looked at Kelly “OH shit radio the APC radio the APC!!” Kelly hastily radioed the APC and it arrived around the corner ASAP she got in and took the panel out of her backpack all the rangers got back in there Humvee's and formed up a line of vehicle's and the APC was in front we all jumped in and squid popped open 3 of the four combat hatches. We took stance and poked our body's out of the hatches while Kelly was typing away at the panel. “Kelly get us that predator drone NOW!!” “on it Echo..about.....NOW!! get ready for some boom boom boys” she said over the comm a predator drone deployed from a building somewhere and roared across the city's night sky. The little birds shot flares into out immediate area and the military advisor said nervously over the comm “formation green zone ASAP make space for one more hummer!!” his hummer screeched into our circle formation at the middle of the block intersection. We all could hear the uproar and the screaming rage of the Runners it was 9:00 PM and my stomach dropped as runners came at us from every angle swarming in between all the vehicles as we took out as much as we can the advisor yelled. “Break formation head for lane 3 of sector 5 Kelly yelled “but thats a dead end we have no where to go !!” “exactly now MOVE !!” we hastily rammed out way thru the crowd of runners it was easily about 200 to 300 runners we reached the street which was a dead end it was blocked by a collapsed building from all the beach bombing runs. We waited for 5 minutes until we saw it our doom three times as much runners appeared and headed for the convoy. The driver looked bewildered “Get ready im breaking position” he advanced the APC towards the crowd its massive tires gripping the rubble and concrete so agile and quick. He opened fire the Dillon mini gun until there was not one round left. the APC swiveled madly like a dog chasing its tail, all the blood and body matter stuck to the tire made it impossible to control. The whole interior rocked forward on impact with the flipped car. suddenly a screech and the APC flipped over on its side. the runners ignored the APC and went for the group of Humvee's ripping the rangers out that had not locked there Humvee door and devouring them. We herd the screams despite layer after layer of Kevlar and Armour of the APC. My radio started to squawk. “ Pindad Panser down repeat, flipped on its side calling in little bird for support !! bring in UH-60 shadow for medivac ASAP!” I groaned in pain the impact was hard,i could taste blood in my mouth my world was spinning. my team mates did not move they where all laying face down. I soon passed out Chapter 5 delta crimson “Delta crimson GO GO GO !!” I awoke in a sweat, I felt normal again I wiped my blood crusted face off. I leaned up and saw them. “Squid Kelly Hunter Your all alive !” hunter smiled “the crowds not givin up. Hurry mate we got to get outta this APC or crimson is just gonna have to save us” Crimson was an elite rescue squad of some of the best rescue force members in the military marines, rangers, green berets, you name em they can save you. Suddenly we heard the roar of helicopters. Then the door of the APC light up and blew of its hinges a soldier in a crimson baklava shined a light me and my team he latched two metal hooks onto our APC and then the helicopter lifted us into the air, this vehicle the best attack helicopter crafted by the engineer crew over at Hudson base they called it the Shadow because thats all it was, a quick killer in the night. A man made machine manufactured to kill and thats what it was best at. I broke for the chopper and jumped in then squid then Kelly it started to take off right before it left ground hunter grabbed the bay door and climbed in. “forgetting something ?” He threw me my ACR bushmaster which started to look like the generals FN 2000 it was scuffed and marked in every crack and crease. A crimson medivac specialist handed us some refreshments and snacks he said he picked it up at his last raid. He gave me some meds, adrenalin shots use them as a last resort of energy he said. I looked at squid who was holding his dog tag “ man echo you see how that APC flipped on us I almost crapped my pant's” I laughed at the joke even if its not funny my team needs the moral. I looked it the pilot he caught my stare. “where going to the main objective” I sighed and looked away hunter looked at me and made some type of hand signal. “hey Kelly you think we could of died back there” “easily hunter luckily the runners did not find our APC interesting” I looked over at Kelly who was looking at the cracked screen of the control panel. “hey Kelly what all did you use that panel for” “i saved the whole platoon with this thing while you where taking a nap, now its gone and base is a long fly away. The screen broke when the APC flipped. And the predator drone crashed without me controlling it” “damn, nothing good ever lasts long does it” “well echo thats not true your still alive aren't you ?” I we both smiled and when the happiness broke it was back to work. chapter 6 Raid The shadow landed on the roof of a building about 3 blocks away from objective R.R.T.R (runner ruled territory raid) our forces had to kill all runners and take back the sears tower. Kelly was stationed on the roof with hundreds of other snipers .with her barret M82 which ripped into 2 to 3 runners at a time with its large caliber amour piercing rounds. Military advisors sent Ground troops they marched the streets for the main attack on the R.R.T (runner ruled territory). Soldiers of all pact creed and faction marched side by side. the ISF (Iraqi Security Forces) the IRA (Irish Republican Army) even the CIA and DEA forces were marching along with whole police precincts including the bulk of the U.S military. This battle was inevitable and we are going to win.
