Why do some people have bellybuttons that are apparently stuffed with skin, while some people have bellybuttons that are, for the most part, hollow?

This is a question that has been on my mind for around three years. I have a hollow bellybutton, but when I go swimming with my friends I notice that some of them have bellybuttons that appear to be stuffed with skin and are not at the least bit hollow. Why is that? Thanks in advance.

Jewelry - Salvaged Barbie Doll Parts

This is one of the more unique re-purposed jewelry ideas that I have seen.  At first I thought the faces and body parts were photos or maybe paintings.   However, the interesting and comical compositions are created using Barbie parts! The Plastic Body Series designed by Margaux Lange is a jewelry line that combines salvaged Barbie doll parts with sterling silver and pigmented resins. You actually HAVE to check out this link; I am so amused by this!

Moving EEEPC hardware to larger case and replacing keyboard - is there a way?

A friend of mine was recently disposing of a broken laptop and offered it to me for 20$.  I accepted it and currently I am wondering how I can go about recycling it.  I've already taken a 160 GB hard drive, a DVD+-RW drive and 512 MB of RAM out of it and put them to good use, but now I wonder what I can do with the rest of it. -Old laptop is Acer Aspire 5100 -My suspicion is that the processor died or something, but on this board it is replacable.  -Power supply is dead, however laptop won't work with new & compatible power supply (leading me to believe the processor also died). I was wondering if maybe I could put my EEEPC 701 in the body of the old laptop and use the keyboard from the old laptop with the EEEPC (however the keyboard for the EEEPC is incompatible with the old laptop keyboard so I would need to know how to interface to the EEEPC), I will try to attach an illustration that describes what I want to do better (text is probably hard to read, but basically reiterates what I have already said).  It doesn't need to look good, it just has to work.  (the keyboard would be the only thing being replaced, the EEEPC screen will remain in-tact) So, does anybody have any suggestions of how I can do this? -thank-you in advance for any help you may offer.

Suggestions for a cheap, simple robot unicorn build

My 5yo daughter has figured out that her mad-Scientist daddy can make crazy things come true.  For her birthday, she got a real unicorn and a princess crown (see picture attached).  Now for Christmas, she has her heart set on a ROBOT unicorn, and I think I'm going to try to tackle this, but I need to keep the scope tight so that when Christmas arrives, I'll have a deliverable for her. (My instinct always leap to grandiose ideas like actual quadrupedalism that would balloon the time/effort/money inputs into the stratosphere.   My biggest obstacle to make this work for Christmas is to stick with K.I.S.S. principles.  I can do basic welding, woodworking, fabricating, stitching, etc.  I'm reasonably good at electronics, and am a professional programmer with a degree in Aerospace Engineering.) Here is my rough  build plan:  (Completely open to improvement suggestions) 1)  Build frame out of 1/2" square steel tubing and weld together.  Leave large torso cavity for electronics and batteries.  Feet will have wheels concealed by a hoof shroud.  Feet will be upgradable (see tech features below) 2)  Use blue foam to rough out body shape.  3)  Cover with about 1/2" of soft foam covered with felt.  Use yarn for mane and tail.  Cover should be removable and washable. I'm trying to figure out tiers of work so that as long as I get the basic frame and covering down, I'll be able to increase/decrease the scope to ensure I'll have a deliverable for Christmas.  Here are the tiered robotic features I am envisioning: Tier 1: Make the saddle bounce at about .5Hz with an amplitude of roughly 1/2".  Possibly make head/neck bob up/down in sync. Tier 2:  Add horse sound effects Tier 3:  Build sensors for the reigns and stirrups.  Monitor if stirrups get pushed inward in a basic kick the horse motion.  Monitor if one reign or both are being pulled.  Make sounds effects based on inputs.  (E.G.  Clop, clop of hooves begins when stirrups are pushed in, and stop when reigns are pulled.)  NOTE:  Since they have access to real horses, keeping the controls reasonably close to riding a real horse will make this double as a trainer/simulator for her and her friends. Tier 4:  Upgrade wheels to powered.  Move based on reign and stirrup inputs.   Max speed will be very slow (40fps or so), so that it can be used inside safely.  Movement is mostly just to augment her imagination, not to move like a real horse. Tier 5:  (Not much chance I'll get this far prior to Christmas)  Upgrade software, sound effects, etc. Current back of napkin ideas: Frame will probably have 3 pieces: legs/torso, neck/head, Saddle/back  Saddle/back removable for electronics access. Neck/head will be joined to torso in 3 spots:  the top point will be anchored with a chain link between two eye-bolts, the other two points would be on the sides of the bottom, with compression springs pushing the neck and torso away from each other, limited by a mechanical linkage.  This should give reasonable motion ability, and allow the two base points to become the sensors for the reigns being pulled. I'm thinking a small 12V deep cycle battery, and 12v salvage DC motors powering the wheels.  Depending on the motor torque, I'll either power the back two feet and keep the front feet as swivel casters, or power all four and turn tank-style. The budget needs to stay reasonable, say $100ish.  This is a kids toy, and I've got lots of other mad-scientist projects to pump money towards. Outstanding questions: Motor selection, cheapest with high enough torque Good, cheap way to make seat and possibly head oscillate.  Mechanism needs to not break even if a 200lbs rider sits on it.  (Doesn't need to work when overloaded, just can't be permanently damaged when overloaded.) Locate inexpensive 12v charger that won't overcharge if left connected, but will charge a 3ah battery reasonably quickly.  (Or schematics to build one)  Essentially, looking for a best bang-for-buck charger. Least expensive way to play audio clips?  I've got plenty of horse-sound clips located, but I need a way to play them economically. Not sure how much force will be needed for movement.  I'm assuming a 70lbs rider/robot max and that it will primarily operate on flat surfaces, potentially on carpet.  Can't burn out if overloaded.  Suggestions on simplifying this?  Suggestions on simple improvements?  Ways to keep the costs down?  Sources for economical parts?

I've never actually seen one of the commercially available ones. could somebody tell me how they work and maybe even send me a picture of two of the working parts? I'm sure I don't want to spend what they cost, plus from the repair ibles, I gather they don't work great anyway.  I'm imagining they have some type of motorized sifter. What I wonder is how the screen or fingers or whatever get back through the litter to the bottom to reset for the next time. Or doesn't it even work that way?

Solar powered go kart with interesting body design.

Hello forum and thanks for your attention. Its common practice for the average engineer to build a go kart. Lets put that gas engine to the side and put something that will benefit our environment. I'm talking solar energy, you know, the energy source that does not pollute. Ok so I wasn't bluffing when I said I had your attention right? ok. First off is the stating the problem. Problem: limited distance with inefficient vehicles. We heavily rely on environment polluting machines that limit our range of travel and actually costing us more and more money to refuel. Hybrid cars were invented to bandaid the problem .....keyword bandaid. They are very expensive the way technology is now and they still use gasoline. .... They are simply an expensive and half step solution to the problem leading most consumers to buy gasoline only cars regardless. my guess hypothesis: If you create a car or vehicle for vague definition that is very very affordable, safe, easy to maintain and gives 3 to 4 times more mileage than your average economy car by utilizing pure electric and solar energy (electric) , then you will win consumers and help the environment. my project will try to solve the problem on a 16 year old boy's financial level and try to prove my hypothesis 90% true. Join me forum in my quest please. As of now i'm thinking 3 wheel vehicle 7ft by 3 ft. 2 idle steering wheels in the front with a hub motor wheel in the rear. Based upon affordability I'm thinking around 1000w to 1500 watts. with a 36 or 48v system. solar panels I plan on making myself by buying individual cells with good efficiency. As or right now I am working on a budget of $2000 and is in desperate need of what parts to buy. Hope to hear from the forum. Thanks.

How do you make an Inventor assembly with parts that interact? Answered

Currently, I can use constraints to assemble parts, but when they are moved around, they simply go through each other. How can I make the parts push each other around? For example, I'm designing a paintball marker, and it has a body, bolt, trigger assembly, and various pins. How would I make the bolt catch on the trigger when it is moved rearward? How would I make the bolt go forward when the trigger is moved rearward? I'm using AutoDesk Inventor Professional 2012. Also, I have access to most current Autodesk programs if they are required.

Simple Trick for Drawing Proportioned Human Figures Freehand

I discovered a simple system that makes it easier to draw a human figure freehand with well proportioned and positioned body parts. This video will show you how to do it (very easy). Basically you draw 3 overlapping stars and they show you the proportions. To make the figure look taller / skinnier move the 2 main stars a little further apart. Or if the person looks too narrow move the 2 main stars closer together. Towards the end of the video I show a couple other pieces of artwork that I could show you how to make if you want.

What's a good cost effective way to make a large plastic body/case?

I'm working on a kitchen countertop type of device that would be similar in size and appearance of a large coffee maker. I plan on making around 50 of these for an initial run. Cost is a factor to prove that a profit could be made while not outsourcing the work involved. My goal is to keep this cost below $30 each part, but could go as high as $50. The body will need to be hollow, and has initial dimensions of 18"x12"x8". It does not need to be one piece, several pieces that can be assembled is actually ideal. Here are a few options that I have looked at as well as my concerns... -Injection molding- I worry about the setup costs for equipment let alone the space needed. -Resin casting - I worry about it being too brittle and effectively making workable molds for assembleable parts. -Resin coated foam - I worry about the look of quality as well as the cost of foam. -Vacuum forming - My main concern is the cost of sheet material. I'd appreciate any input, whether it is to add more ideas or to address concerns that I have.

Im planning on going to Burning Man in Nevada, and I want an awesome costume. Since so much music gets played at night i was thinking i could get a full body suit, and attach led panels to it with a sensor to light it up to the beat of the music, like a music equalizer on the computer, or those tshirts with them on the front. Would anyone be able to get me links to some company who would customize one for me? Or where I could get the parts to do it myself? And how to do it myself?

14 Ways to Boost Brain Power

Until just a few years ago, doctors believed that the brain stopped making new neural connections - meaning that the memory began to get irreversibly worse - when the body stopped developing, usually in the early 20s. And doctors knew that, like any other part of the body, neurons weaken as people age. Loss of brain function due to neural breakdown was assumed to be a normal, unavoidable part of aging. It turns out they were wrong. In the past few years, it has become clear that you can, in fact, make new neurons starting in your 20s and continuing well into old age. You can literally rewire the brain with new parts as the older parts wear out. How?There are lots of things you can do right now to preserve, protect and enhance your gray matter.14 Ways to Boost Brain Power

3D Printed Solar Electric Vehicle

Last months, as passive and low energy construction business went down in Romania, I had time to revival an old project - Zero Emission Solar Electric Vehicle. While researching online and off-line for chassis, body and materials suppliers and manufacturers, went to the 3D Printing idea for chassis, body and parts! There are already at least 2 cars printed so, and I'd like to share what I know already and also to learn from you. The vehicles will be modular, also. Hope you will love this idea, when I will have design ready and show it here :)  We might use Open Source Vehicles chassis, but not sure about this, because 3D printing will reduce the need of many parts that are in a classical chassis and body.  Your info brought here and your decent comments will be deeply appreciated. Thank you!

Bee sting thearapy - a natural alternative to classic medication?

A lot of medications we use originally came directly from nature.Like chewing on some inner bark from a beech tree - it contains natural "asperin".And even potent medicine started by sourcing the natural stuff until we managed to created it all in the lab.Poisons from plants and animals are in many cases still the backbone of modern medicine - including opiates like morphine. It is then no real surprise that the long forgotten bee sting therapy makes a big comeback these days.Forgotten only in the mordern, western world - in Asia it was and still is part of the normal medical approach for many people. So what is it all about and how does it actually work?A little bee gives her life so you get treatment....And if we trust modern medicine from just under 10 years ago this is where the story would end.Thankfully we did not stop there once more and more people spread the word about the benefits of their treatment.Social media helped a lot here for once.Be it inflammatory deseases, nerve pain, arthritis and much more - you are certain to find people providing evidence that their condition improved noticable. In some case they even claim to be cured from their problems. What they all have in common though is that they all started like you and me: Fully of scepticism...With nothing to loose and no doctor giving you any real relief you might get desperate to try all sorts of weird things, so why not bees!?So far a bee sting therapist is just your normal bee keeper, but one with a passion for both the bees and your suffering. There is neither a need for doctor nor a need for a doctor to start as a bee keeper.Their knowledge of where to place the bee on you comes mostly from feedback and experience.Although a lot if quite obvious.Like when you have sever pain from arthitis in your elbow then that is the area were get stung and not in your leg ;)Sience is starting to take all this serious now and some studies try to figure out how and what actually is in the poison that helps better than any medicine and without any noteworthy side effects.I say notewroth because the obvious risk of a shock reaction is always there. But even you never got stung by a bee before and don't know if you are allergic: All bee sting therapists have an epi pen at hand for those unknown cases.Evidence shows the bee venom has good anti inflamatory properties, however what component is responsible for this is still largly unknown.Patient obvervations and tons of blood tests also revealed that the continued bee sting therapy attack the bodies systems in a very positive way.The immune system goes into to overdrive but what targets the poision or venom also targets and attacks a lot of related things that out of level or control otherwise. The body also produces endorphines and a generally stronger immune reaction to other things.Again, evidence is there, the lab proves it, but why and what exactly is still a huge mystery to science. And it flies anayway! You might know the old problem of aeronautic students when the task comes why or how a bumblebee is able to fly.Physics tell us the wings are too small, the body too fat and the overall weight just impossible.Sadly no bumblebee has even the slightest clue about physics or even earonatutical desgin, so it just flies off and does whatever a bumblebee needs to do these days....The story for the bee sting therapy is quite similar. We know it works for many things, we know it shouldn't and that it does it anyway. But does that mean you should try it out to end you pain or at least get some relief?Do be stung or not to be stung - that is the question...Unless you are allergic you have nothing to loose here once you think about it.So you, like so many before, might just start some internet search to find out more. And if it happens to be something other people already reported the treatment was beneficial your doubts might fade away and you dare to try it.Some of the stories you find are just a hype with things those who posted can never prove. So don't fall something exotic and expect that it will work for you just because you found a single article or posting saying so.Not because it might not work!Just because nothing is worse than getting your hopes and expectations up with nothing happening at all.Either way the cases of relief right away are few, in almost all cases it takes several rounds of therapy before the patient notices anything that couldn't come from simply hoping it works.Once it does though the effects are usually great. For mayn it is last ditch attempt but it does not have to be that way.Pain killers and other drugs might help you good enough and you wouldn't consider killing a bee for a test....Why not?Again: You have nothing to loose ;)Medication is good, nature is better! If ever switched from some expensive medicine to a generic brand than chance are you noticed they work differently or in some case not enough or with worse side effects. The same is true for the basic, natural product. We can, for example create the raspberry ketone in the lab and we know it the stuff giving us the nice raspberry smell. But the artificial produt has suprisingly little smell and even less taste than the original...Like all natural venoms, posion and toxins, bee stings give you a cocktail of ingredients. The artificial product only what was identified to be the most beneficial.Science has shown over and over again that a lot of these cocktails contain things that prevent the negative effects of the artificial counterpart.Does not mean though anyone ever bothered to include these in the recipe for the created meds..."What does not kill you makes you stronger!"We use this phrase for a lot of things but in terms of natural healing ways it is often more ture than for anything else.Bee keepers use protection but you won't find any who does not get stung on a more or less daily base. They don't bother with the little pain anymore and most might even tell you that apart from the initial sting they don't really feel it anymore. What is even more interesting is if you have a chat with them about the general health. It is hard to find any bee keeper that suffers regulary from a cold or flu, let alone infections.Back before we had things like penicilling or anesthetics we had much more people knowing what nature can offer to help us.Pharma companies are exploiding nature wherever they can to make money with "new" medicines and "discovieries".Bee keepers won't ;)They won't even charge you much, some are already happy if you buy a pot of honey or wax candles while being treated. But as said, it is neither a miracle, nor something anyone "must" try out!Never expect any, especially quick, benefit! You deserve to be sceptic and only get your hopes up once or better if you see a real benefit over time.Just have a look at your daily dose of medications and how much it helps you - including the side effects. If you say that enough is enough then do your own bit of research first.Try to find people with your condition that got help from bee sting therapy, at least their online presence or testimonials. In case all adds up good and positive you can cosider to try it yourself without expecting anything. And, well, if does help you too then fel free to spread the word...

Potatobots Take Paris, New York, China and beyond

Ï»¿Tech meets art as students learn what makes machinery tick, and use those parts to anthropomorphize potatoes.  Not only do they make crazy creatures, they write back-stories for them as well.  "Each year, my students and I take apart old electronics (VCRs, computers, clock radios, and the like). We use the parts like the parts for the old-school Mr. Potato Head kits. In the 50′s, you didn’t get the big plastic potato, you just got face and body parts. We use the gears, springs, screws, wires, and other pieces as the body parts for our Potatobots. We photograph them on blue paper, and then I use GIMP to place them into scenes of the students’ choosing." Find out what happens when a Potatobot falls into a wormhole and how Tim got so much camel:  http://potatobots.wordpress.com/ Did I mention they can shoot lasers from their eyes?  Who knew playing with food could be so much fun?

Bumpy art sets new trend.

It may not have reached the US yet, or it may have come from there, but there's a new fashion in body art - painting pregnant tums. The two-hour-plus process involves painting pictures from a range of ideas - or the Mum's own ideas - and a professional photo-shoot to preserve the event.(The reporter) was curious to know what kind of people want to invite a stranger to paint on such a personal, and special, part of their body."Anyone who wants a nice memento," said Erica."At the end of the day I think we should celebrate births and bumps."Body painting has always been around, but more people are picking up on this type of body painting now and it's becoming more mainstream."I want to offer it as a service to pregnant women. My instructable step format has changed?

The title of my instructable steps have changed since the 'reformating'.  The first one is ok, after that it get garbled. I have tried to re-enter them, but when I look at the instructable the step title has been 'split' and only part is shown as the title, the rest goes with the body of the text.

Using Autodesk Fusion 360 or other package to make Lids and other form fitting parts?

First off, thanks for all the great posts and Instructables, I hope to be able to add to the growing collection sometime soon with a few projects I need to document.   Recently I have been trying to figure out a good way to create form fitting shapes with decent tolerances for  PLA printing.  I am using Autodesk Fusion and Blender using Boolean CGI operations, specifically the  Cut / Difference option. to create a appropriate sized cap.  If you have a peek at the attached image, the top part (red)  was used as a tool to cut out a matching body from a smaller cylinder (blue).  In the real world If these are printed, the shape would never fit together and if you did, you could never remove them.   What I would like to do is alter the bottom half to shrink it's surfaces inward about 0.25mm to allow for the expanding of materials. Every time I've inquired about this on some other forums, the first response Is  'Just use resize' and make the bottom half larger.'  Great idea, but there are a problems.  The inner plate/cylinder and radius walls expand to be too large The height changes, leaving a gap between the two surfaces Any suggestions would be great. I believe there is a path using Differences / Intersect and subtracting that, but I've been failing to find a solution to it.  I have included the Example top as an STL file.  Thanks for any suggestions.  And No this is not for a school project. Just a hobbyist looking to understand CAD.

Chopping Up an stl file into multiples

Hi Everyone, I'm looking for some software help.  I have a single stl file of a Johnny 5 robot.  I don't want to print it all in one part. What I'd like to do is chop the arms, head, and other random parts off, and save them as separate stl files so the robot can be re-assembled. Ideally the chopped off arms would have male-female connectors to fit back into the body they were removed from. I'm looking for input as to what would be the best method to accomplish this both in software and technique. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Robot that rebuilds itself after kicked apart

As this video of a modular robot re-assembling itself after being kicked apart by its creators at the University of Pennsylvania shows, the day is soon approaching when even smashing apart our rebellious robot slaves with hammers and axes will not prevent each individually severed body part from crawling towards you across the room, a murderous and autonomous agent of servo-controlled musculature.

Can we make an Arduino based ebook reader?

E-reader is convenient. Pay for an E - reader is consider paying for thousands books. But not any body can afford a kindle or kobo, and geeks won't satisfy with them. So, I want to make an Arduino based ebook reader myself. The parts must be the cheapest (such as Arduino Nano...) or the recycled. Can anyone help me. (My English is well, so forgive me if you find any mistake)
