Acrylic Cabinet

Hello everyone! I'm a long time instructables.com fan but I just recently signed up again with a new email address. I need some advice on building an acrylic box to hold some kewl things in my home. It needs to be durable and hard to break into. Here is an example: http://www.akrylix.com/photos/682-lexan-hinge-boxes-.jpg or see attached photos. I found a supplier for 1/2" acrylic sheets and laser cutting but my question is how do I connect all the panels? Should I go the route people choose when building an aquarium? Thanks so much for any advice or help you can offer! Cheers, Kevin

Retro Radio Cabinet

I want to re-fit this radio cabinet with some type of sound system.  I want to preserve, or transform the display glass, and I want the knobs on the front to activate some functions (volume, tuning perhaps) I want to put some very understated LED light behind the front pillars and redo the bamboo screen.  I am just not sure which way to go with it.  I could use a car system and 12 volt adapter system of some kind, but I would really like it all to plug in with just one plug.  I need ideas.

Arcade Cabinet Building

Ok, I've looked around everywhere, but nowhere I found gave me enough information, so I'm going to try on the forums. I am planning on making a Custom Arcade Machine, and I need some help. I know that you need MAME and what not, but I'll tell you what I have and what I want it to turn out as. I have: 5-7 old pcs sitting around, all are windows, and they all meet min arcade requirements. 3-4 monitors sitting around a plentiful supply of plywood, scrap metal, and welding tools for the cabinet. internet As for the cabinet, I want to be able to play most arcade games, and this is my hopeful specs. Upright cabinet every button you can imagine, my plan is for the front of the table having a joystick and 6-8 buttons on each side with a trackball in between them, when a game is selected that needs a steering wheel, a servo moves a mechanism out of the way to allow you to pull up a yoke, with more servos to lock it in certain ways( like lock the y axis in a racing game, but full movement in a flight game), and lastly have some pedals at the bottom. so I am basically going for an ultimate cabinet, and possibly ebay some to cover my costs. I also have some experience in computers and electronics almost forgot, I also plan to put in a coin slot, in case others want that, and to keep my brothers from being on it all day. :D

My MAME cabinet

I decided to build a MAME cabinet from scratch.  I got the basic shape from http://www.arcadecab.com/Intro.htm.  I'm not sure what to make it out of.  I'm thinking just 3/4"plywood but I'm not sure it will finish nice.  Home Depot lists it online costing $40 which is kind of pricey.  For around $20 they have "Ultra-Blend Particleboard Underlayment" but I'm not sure it's really meant for this kind of thing. I modeled everything in Sketchup.  The file is attached.  I also attached a number of shots so you can get an idea.  I guess you can't add notes to pictures in a forum topic?  There is a stool that slides out so kids can play easier.  The control panel will hinge out to access the wires.  Another hinged door will conceal the keyboard and mouse which will slide out on drawer slides.  The keyboard is just a grey boxy shape in my sketchup pics.  Another larger door will swing open for access to the computer.  The screen itself, a standard modern LCD computer monitor, will be removable so it can be easily turned 90 degrees for vertical games.  One pic has it in the vertical position.  The red button between the speakers above the screen is a pause button. I'd also like a way to turn off the lights behind the marquee when the computer goes to sleep.  I can handle the electronics to turn off the lights if only I can get a 5v or 12v signal from the computer when it goes to sleep. So what do you think?  I'm still in the planning stage although I have ordered the controls and keyboard emulator.

Hey all, I want to put smallish open-ended wrenches on some wood cabinets as handles. How do I do that? Any ideas?

The cabinets are unfinished wood, bought from IKEA, and they are in a hold-all room where we keep our tools and stuff (no garage). I also want to paint them. I need to attach something to the wrenches (hopefully I can find some that are about 4-5 inches long) so they aren't flush with the doors, and then screw them in from the inside of the door. But what do I attach to them? And how? Thanks

Funky cabinet drawer pulls

Hi, I am in the process of re-doing my kitchen and I have need for about 40 cabinet pulls/knobs. I want something interesting and am leaning towards an existing flat-top pull/knob and affixing 1/2" glass squares to it.  The pull/knob I'm considering is 1/2" wide and 4 3/4" length. Questions: Would Expoxy be the best adhesive? What could I do that would make the pull/knob smooth so that the cracks between the pieces of glass don't cut any fingers?  Is resin a possibility? You Instructable-ites are so smart and creative, I can't imagine getting a more creative answer from anywhere else Help!!

And also I wonder if cabinets would be better or just have them open so you can see the systems. For an idea of how much room I need I have an Nes, Snes, Atari, N64, Ps2, Xbox, Wii and i would like a few extra in case i get more. I also need space for games and accessories. General Electric Record Cabinet

I just today purchased this GE record/stereo console/cabinet. It needs a new speed lever and possibly new speakers. I want to make improvements to this. The needle needs to be replaced, the right speaker works good so I'm thinking just put new speakers while I'm at it. The fabric is awful looking and someone got paint splatter on both the wood and the fabric. I planned on distressing this in a white and black color but do not want to make too many changes if it is a collectable. I need lots of advice and suggestions for the repairs and could use your knowledge on the value of this item before I paint it. So far in my search I have only pulled up a YouTube video of this during use. The model is G922G and I will attempt to post pictures if possible. Thank you to all for your time.

Sculptural Crochet Primer

Here SuperNaturale features a curiosity cabinet of crochet figures, thus illustrating the basic elements which combine to form sculptural crochet.Much like a traditional Wunderkammer, the pieces are divided into subgroups, each of which explores a certain variable.I'm struck by the beauty obtained by using simple stitches and one color to make a striking, strangely biologically-evocative piece of artcraft. It's obviously left me with a loss for words.

I need an idea of what could be made from two curved glass deli cabinet doors.

Along with a few flat glass shelves, I was given two large curved glass deli cabinet doors as shown in the image below. They still have the aluminum bars attached to the long ends. One the top side that was formerly attached to a hinge mechanism and one being the lower side that formerly held a rubber seal. I only have the doors, as the rest of the cabinet was used for another purpose or recycled by the previous owners. I'm trying to come up with a project to repurpose them for, but I'm drawing a blank. They are about 4 feet long and 2 feet wide with no cracks.  They appear to be tempered glass and are very heavy. Here are some ideas: -  large vertical display cabinets made from wood with the glass doors on the front of them might work by using the short ends as the top and bottom. - large horizontal display cases made from wood with the glass doors as the top or front and access to the rear. - Some sort of greenhouse window. - I eventually would like to build a house out of shipping containers. Incorporating these into the plans as windows would be cool as long as I can figure out how to frame them out to give a good seal. perhaps as a skylight? (Of course, not being double paned, they wouldn't have much of an R-value). - Something artistic that can utilize the glass panes and be hung on a wall or used as a display. I have access to a Hackerspace in St. Louis, Missouri with plenty of tools and other raw materials. The pieces are so large that I'd have to work on the project and clean up each day rather than leave the project out. It's a shared space, so I don't want my stuff to be in the way of others. Any input from the Instructables community would be helpful.

Could a file cabinet be insulated from fire with, say, a fire blanket? Saving money and weight?

File cabinets are increasingly needed by the average Joe in this information age. And fire safe file cabinets are a great protection for hard copy. But they are so expensive and heavy. A 4 drawer will cost at least $1000 and weigh at least 500lbs. I was wondering if anyone has tackled this question.
