What calms you down?

These are things in life which you don't do with an intention to help calm you down, yet they have a calming effect on you. For example I water my plants and it is very calming to me. Someone mentioned weaving or crocheting is very calming for them. Please share your thoughts.

Are there any legal suggestions for getting people to slow down on our street?

I'm talking guerrilla warfare. We don't have sidewalks and narrow country roads so walking with a stroller or a dog means you risk life and limb to leave the house--no one drives the 25 MPH speed limit (except me). The town police and the town traffic commission are useless and totally closed minded to any traffic calming suggestions, especially those that cost money. I just want them all to slow down. Any suggestions??

Slow down cars with trees.

Traffic calming schemes are frequently unpopular with drivers; speed bumps and oddly-placed bollards make life uncomfortable. In Norfolk, England, a new scheme is being presented that slows traffic without even touching the road or obstructing the driver. Two hundred trees have been planted at the boundaries of villages suffering from speeding drivers, and it is the trees that fool drivers into slowing; they are in rows down each side of the road, and as they approach the village, they get slightly closer together, and slightly closer to the road. Seen only in the driver's peripheral vision, the trees give the same subliminal visual clues as increasing speed would, and drivers respond by unconsciously slowing down.  The illusion has slowed traffic by an average of about 3km per hour. The illusion has been used before (rumble strips on the approaches to roundabouts are spaced more and more closely together to create an audible illusion of acceleration), but the more subtle nature of the tree-planting makes it less obvious, and thus harder to resist.  Provisionally seen as a success, more detailed, longer-term results are to be presented to the Department of Transport in the Autumn, with a view to rolling it out on B-roads nationally. Need ideas for 2 month old daughter's bouncy seat project

OK...My daughter is 2 months old and is colicy(sp) and only is calm when in her bouncy seat....see image of the bouncy seat we have. here is the funny part, she is only calm when you rock the seat...fast and pretty hard. So I step in the lower corner of the frame and get into a cadance when the thing rocks and she is calm. I need ideas on getting this seat to bounce on its own...I've tried the swings, and she hates them. This and the car are the only thing she likes. THANKS!!!!

What is the best vegan, gluten-free comfort food for when you feel nauseated and/or under the weather? ?

Something simple to prepare, since lengthy food prep is always the last thing you want to do when feeling yuck. But also delicious and calming to the digestive system. Oh, and vegan and gluten-free, too.

What is up with all the 'bots?

I have gotten many comments on one of my Instructables from what appears to be 'bots. It's getting annoying and makes me wonder what they're getting out of it besides phishing for me to go to their websites (digitalsyndrome.com, for example). They have names like shoppingwombat, sneerstab, massespolenta, washtoes, mildfrequent, monkeyglom, etc.; either no pictures or photos of actresses as avatars. They describe themselves as "Unapologetic twitter advocate. Food maven. Problem solver. General analyst. Wannabe web specialist." and other inane terms.  Although they seem to abide by the rules of the site by being polite and use two-word comments like "that's calme" (sic), "Its trendy", "Its ideal", and so on, they are really getting to be a pain. Has anyone at Instructables looked into this obvious spamming?  Thanks!

help wanted developing cool fidget jewelry

I have had an idea for creating cool non childish fidget toys as jewelry. My real idea is to create something which could use an ir sensor to pick up someones pulse and then play it back to them through a vibration motor.. (its similar to baby's reacting to there mothers heart beats in the womb an has a massively calming effect on most people,,, to the point where build a bare workshops has the option to include a beating heart)   I submitted the idea to Quirky but it wasn't taken on for one of there projects.. I think it still has legs an could be a commercial success. being there's already a bit of interest from educators who has seen research pointing to fiddle toys as being the best thing since the carbon atom arranged itself into cool new shapes. There are a few other alternatives which could be developed.. an i think it would be awesome to develop a whole range of these things an see them in jewelry shops looking like ailion artifacts with documents about how they can help you..  I think everything about it should be play with able , so magnets textures ect ect  Here is the initial idea  ____________________________________________________ People fidget,, A lot of people fidget. A lot of the time.. They fidget during presentations, on commutes, whilst thinking of ideas and whilst being productive on the internet. And that’s not a bad thing. Fidgeting helps people to be who they are. They wouldn’t do it if there wasn’t a good reason for it. From what I understand different parts of the brain are responsible for different things. And some of them are associated with each other. Interestingly for most people learning is enhanced when there doing something. Much more of the brain becomes active when any movement is involved. Retention of information becomes greater and creativity is increased as the parts of the brain associated with these things become active. I did some independent research on the strength of the book (Fidget to focus) when I did my teacher training, And found that though I didn't have a class full of what some would deem the unteachable I did have a class full of tappers, twiddles and shakers. When I gave them all the option to utilise just a simple shaped piece of wood, and the permit ion to fiddle with it during session they loved it. The feedback I got from the use of the wooden shapes was terrific. With 8 of the 15 students “forgetting” to give the shapes back at the end of the session. And the class being more engaged during the session. The Solution I aim to develop a range of warble fiddle toys primarily as jewellery. Jewellery is now gender neutral, A fiddle toy worn around the neck would allow for an easy accessibility in comparison to being fixed to an item of clothing. Jewellery can allow for a range of shapes to suet different people and allow for a shape or shapes ideal for those wanting to play. So far I have made a shape and seen that people like to play with it. I think the minimum next step would be to make this shape in different materials to give different textures weights and looks. But what I would really love to do would be to introduce all sorts of awesome new functions into the fiddle toy jewellery. I would love to include a number of different haptic responses potentially echoing the users pulse. This has been shown to calm infants simulating a factor present in the womb I know the sound of a heart beat is known to relax most people and has been included into calming music I suspect the same as a tactile would be just as calming helping someone to come from an elevated heart rate to a calmer one in a sympathetic match. Or starting off strong and diminishing from its trigger. Iterations could include a variable trigger like an old school stress relief toy. Magnets with a ruggedized coating to avoid clicking, tracking a whole host of things which could be useful in giving the user the best tools for understanding when they fiddle and why. __________________________ For the Quirky proposal which is pretty much exactly what is above https://www.quirky.com/invent/1603684/action/vote/query/view=trending&categories;=all

Volunteer : Need Help : English language : Past and Present tenses

Hi !The use of English past and present tenses are not that intuitive ......... and I find them quite limiting and rigid ........Let's say I need to write a story. Traditionally, that's the past tense that is used :Bob entered the office of Mister P, his boss. The old man was looking seriously angry. He was red like a tomato."Sit down Bob ! We have to talk !", he yelled, moving nervously some files on his desk.Bob sat down and was smiling politely, with the hope that his boss was going to calm down a little. But showing his beautiful teeth did not had the expected effect :"Why are you smiling at me like that ?!, yelled the old man.Bob jumped on his seat. Like by magics, the fear changed his smile into a giant contracture.etc ..."Is the use of past tense correct ?Now, let's say I need to tell the same story, but using Present tense, like if it was happening in real time :Bob enters the office of Mister P, his boss. The old man is looking seriously angry. He is red like a tomato."Sit down Bob ! We have to talk !", he yells, moving nervously some files on his desk.Bob sits down and smiles politely, with the hope that his boss is going to calm down a little. But showing his beautiful teeth don't have the expected effect :"Why are you smiling at me like that ?!, yells the old man.Bob jumps on his seat. Like by magics, the fear changed his smile into a giant contracture.etc ..."My natural reflex is to use present simple (like I'd do in my language). But present simple is described as a tense for generalities .......How do you tell a story in present tense ? Do you make heavy use of present continuous (which is not really beautiful) ???Thanks for your help =o)

Homemade electric oil diffuser for a popular feline pheromone... Is this option possible?

I am wondering if it is possible to construct an electric oil diffuser for a popular feline pheromone that creates a calm environment for cats. The current price on one of the those dispensers is upwards of $35, but the pheromone oil itself is much cheaper. I am in need of at least two more, which will end up being pretty pricey.  I am at a complete loss on how to construct one, as well as knowing about the inner mechanics of an electric (plug-in) oil diffuser. I can however, follow any advice or instruction on how to build one.  I have heard of using reeds with essential oils, but could it work with the cat pheromone? Would this even be logical considering my cats will probably knock it over? Anything helps, thanks! http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41lrpwvftmL.jpg http://www.feliway.us/

How do I get my little brother to like taking baths regularly?

My little brother plays in the mud everyday while I'm at school and my mom is cooking and cleaning. When I come home from school he runs to hug me before I reach the door. Then he runs inside before I start complaining about the mud on my Versace outfit. But when my mom calls for him to take a bath so we can eat supper, he runs around the house screaming. Until he gets to Jack, my older brother. Jack has a way to get kids to calm down a little, but he can't get him to take a bath. I get so pissed off when he gets my clothes dirty because I worked for a year before I can save enough money to buy it and still have a lot left in my account to help with the bills and stuff like that.

How might I go about building something like this? Ideas?

I found this on a website but it's a bit pricey for me. I'd love to make one for my girlfriend but I have no idea where to start. The design seems simple enough but there are parts that puzzle me, like the charging and wiring. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Rei HuggableFrom the site:We have wrote about this glowing pillow a loooong time ago, but now it's finally out of production and in the market and we are so happy to present it to you. What it is? Well for starters it's a soft and fuzzy pillow filled with 'silicone bean bags' that contain high intensity LED lights. These LED lights in the silicone beads make the entire pillow glow in an extremely calming and soothing way. Powered by 4 AA batteries – or if you prefer to hook it up to the adaptor, that's possible as well – the pillow glows strongly for about 4 hours and then the lights ever so softly fade over the next couple hours.

New Group : Scooter Trash - For all of you Bikers, Bikies, Motorcyclists, 1%ers, Citizens and Independants

I've started a new group dedicated to motorcycles and the lifestyle that goes with them. Scooters, Mopeds, Trikes, Sportbikes, Choppers, Bobbers, Cruisers, Tourers: They all count. Feel free to join if you have something to add, or if you're interested in bikes. To me, motorcycles represent freedom. Freedom to go. Freedom to be. Freedom from convention. Freedom to live. Freedom to ride. When you're on a bike with the breeze in your face, bugs in your teeth, and wind in your hair, nothing else matters. Bills, ills, drought, loss, death, strain, stress: all gone while that engine is pounding, and those wheels are rolling. My parents treated them as if they were evil, and I agreed, FOR A WHILE. When I was 17, while they were out of town on vacation, I bought my first bike. It was a beat up 20 year old Harley. It almost never ran, (so Mom and Dad calmed down) but it started a permanent love-affair with cycles. I've owned nearly 50 bikes over the last 20 years, and still own 11 of them. Note: I just went over the list, and I've owned 41 complete bikes, and 17 parts/project bikes, not to mention a barn full of miscellaneous spare parts. So tell me, What do you ride? What do you want to ride? Why do you ride? How long have you been riding? Good/Bad experiences?

What laptop fan do I need, and where I can I get it for a good price in the UK?

I think this is actually my first post here, although I've been following Instructables for a long time. Anyway, I thought someone here might be able to help me find the right parts. I have an Acer Aspire 7520 laptop.  I think the fan might be going south--it makes a horrible noise when it first starts up, then after a while it calms down but it seems to turn on and off more frequently than it should.  According to the computer itself (monitored with lm-sensors on Fedora) the temperatures of the various parts are within the normal range, so my guess is that the fan itself is malfunctioning. I'm a total novice but I think, based on previous experience, that I can take a shot at replacing the fan myself if I can figure out what part to buy and where to get it.  My google-fu seems to be failing me, though, and the only place I see to buy it is some random company called shop1mall, which I don't really trust, or various places in the US.  Acer customer service is useless--they will only book it in for a repair, not tell me the part number. Where can an ignorant person such as myself find a suitable replacement part?  I'm fairly new to the UK so I don't know all the places to look here, but so far Misco, Maplin, and PC World don't seem to carry a suitable part, or at least, I don't know how to tell whether the fans they sell will work with this laptop. Geez, sorry for the rambling message.  Any help is appreciated, though.

How to take care orphan kittens? Answered

I had a cat who died after giving birth.. she had a complication and after 2 surgery she died and left 5 kittens in my care. I gave them Lactol, its powder milk for puppies and kittens but they get diarrhea. So i give them pedialyte to calm their tummy and sugar+water and gel vitamins (nutri-plus gel). They are 3 weeks old now, going to 4 weeks in 2 days. And I need suggestion on what to do next. What to give them. Should I try giving them kitten food or something? because I think the milk only get them diarrhea again. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ok I've add pics of the kittens all big now. Only 2 of them survive after hard struggle. One is a female tortoiseshell (Arathea) and the other one is a male dark grey tabby (Ceyx). There's pic of them playing at the backyard. Very very active kittens, almost a handful but I'm happy they are growing up healthy. One of the things I would like to share is.. the vet told me you can feed baby food/baby porridge to sick cats or kittens if milk is not an option or if they have diarrhea. You can give a red rice porridge for 3-6 month old babies to animals. You can also add a little honey to the mix. Red rice porridge have high vit B which is good for cats and kittens. I hope this can be useful. http://www.waytodeal.com/public/images/buy/large/20100107174321_promina_6.png

One year old dog will not accept my new three month old puppy?

I have a one year old female husky mix (Nova). I rescued her from the pound when she was six months old. Nova loves women and children but has been afraid of men since I have had her. Nova is usually dog aggressive.. but not always. I thought that she would do well with a puppy. Clearly, I was wrong! I picked up a three month old female husky mix (Luna) two days ago. I allowed Nova to sniff Luna's scent on a jacket. Nova seemed extremely curious and even wagged her tail. I was impressed. I held Nova by her harness while we brought Luna into our house. Nova became extremely excited! Once Nova was calm I allowed her to sniff Luna out. As soon as Luna moved her head, Nova snapped at her face? Nova will follow her around the house standing stiffly and walking tall. I am unsure if this is to show she is dominant? Probably. If Luna tries to go anywhere as in near the fire place(where Nova lays every now and then), near my children or myself, Nova steps in front of Luna being territorial. Nova has snapped at Luna multiple times and has made Luna yelp. A few times Nova attempted to play with Luna by pawing at her, but she accidently hurt Luna. All of this is still going on along with now Nova is growling at Luna. I am afraid to let them "sort it out". What can I do to help Nova accept Luna?

My viewpoint

Ok, people are going on about this whole Utopian idealism of a united Instructables. I can guarantee you, it will not happen. I found it highly ironic that posts by DJ and IaC kicked up further arguments (mainly involving Lithium, Slime Q Slimedog, and many members of the K'nex community). So how about this; we stay out of each other's way. It has worked for 2 years, why not now? Also, about the K'nex community, I agree with the whole idea of being happy and building for fun. However, if someone does not build for fun, should they not be allowed to contribute any more? For example TheDunkis has made it clear he does not build for fun. Great. Now, who has the right to tell him he is wrong for doing that? I myself enjoy building, but I also enjoy the elation of discovering people like my project. I imagine that is the same for everyone, but to differing levels. I think that deep down, TD does enjoy building, otherwise he would not post half as much. If it was purely his wish to please that drove him to build, then it would be a chore. Finally, I think the K'nex community really needs to grow up and learn to take some criticism. To prove my point, I imagine several members of the site will have a go at me for saying this. Spelling and grammar is becoming better, but there is still a long way to go. There is a disturbing level of immaturity too; just because it is the internet doesn't mean you can just post whatever with no consequence; a point proven to me when someone from my school was found by staff to be a member of the BNP on Facebook. EDIT: I also think it is pathetic the way some people are under the illusion that the 'non-knexers' are ganging up on the 'knexers'. Calm down, it doesn't even really matter if they are. So, there are my views. Feel free to comment nicely, and if you wish to comment in a demeaning way to others, save your dignity and check you are not proving a point I have made in this topic before posting.

How do I know whether or not by grade 8 crush likes me? Answered

I'm in grade 6 and I really like this guy but he's in grade 8 and I rarely ever see him. I only started seeing him more when he got in trouble so when I enter the school in the morning he's always there facing the door helping with the lunch "tickets" that I get everyday just to get his attention and even then it feels like he likes me but I'm not sure because he's always so emotionless around me and when I go to get lunch with my best friend, my crush only says hi to my best friend and looks at me I always feel he's eyes on me the only time we ever talked was when I first meet him I asked his name and he smiled and replied, the second was at lunch when I was laughing like crazy and he came up to us and started laughing too cause he over heard me saying something so weird and crazy to a friend of mine and everyone was like what, so yah I really don't know if he likes me or not?, I keep getting mixed messages and somethings it feels like he's ignoring me By the way I'm 5'3 and he's like 5'7 or 5'8 (I don't know why I added that in :>) and he's like the jock of the school, he's popular, cool, and calm and I'm well known around the school but I wouldn't say I was popular, I'm too confident for my own good and I'm not afraid to voice out my opinions and I think that me and my crush are a perfect match

Ill start out saying that i can really pack a punch, when i was in 3rd grade these two kids were throwing rocks out me i charged at them planing to tackle him, the other one ran, but he held up fist so i lost control of myself so i just speared him them punched him 2 or 3 times in his solar plexus which he imddelyty was passed out so moved to his face and it took three or 4 techers to just get me off him, took 7 to calm me down, i promised never to do that to anyone ever again unless i was threatend, well these guys got me so angry that they even made other people, friends and other graders ignore me because the other people thinks its true, they did not threaten me fyi, so i dont know what to do they even made a person hit me  but me and him r kinda chill right now/ we keep r distance, but he was talking about my clothes and mocking me saying that i got from dollar general and then i said " well things all even out because you got your parents from ebay" then he said all no you did not just go there and he did cause it, but he turned AROUND TO EVEN MAKE SURE A TEACHER WAS NOT LOOKING AND PUNCHED MY RIGHT IN ME ADOMENAL i was getting ready to pounce back but remeberd my promise but didnt  but ill just get to the main point today coming back from the feild trip i had to use the restroom well the only one was the one on the bus, so i went there, not knowing i was being followed, and when i was their he/she blocked the door so i could get the door open so i was trapped there for (thankly to god) for only 10 minutes because the teacher came looking for me. but i think it was gage, who is APPERNLTY my friend and hes been really rude to me lately and to all my friends just because i dont just talk to him (i try to be nice to many people but they just talk smack about me sometime) so he even admitted and no i will not tell a teacher.

Scholarship Submission the Second!

For my next submission for the scholarship Create, I decided to design a robot that would not help what you do in your daily life, but how. Stress can build up without you yourself knowing. Perhaps you're prone to panic or anxiety attacks and can't recognize them; the first step in dealing with such. So, I would develop a robot that could cater to easing your stressed or panicked condition by detecting the symptoms and then using any number of methods to return to you a normal state. For in-home use, the human would wear a combination heart rate/respiration/oximeter monitor (coupled with a BP cuff perhaps) that would send wireless data to a nearby computer or the robot itself. At such time a stressed condition arises, the programming can recognize what course of action is needed and address it. For instance, a raised heart rate and shortened breath with low oxygen absorption could indicate a panic attack. The robot would then stop what it was doing (vacuuming, chastising cats, etc) and find the human. The robot would then playback an audio message of "Are you feeling OK?" or a soothing musical piece or project a slideshow of recognizable images. The robot could return from time to time after an stress event to check on the progress of the human. If the human doesn't return to wellness, a more advanced robot would suggest any number of relief alternatives ("Should you take your medication?") or possibly notify another human of the situation. Of course, this is no substitute for having a companion or caregiver nearby to assist in these situations. I originally had the idea for people that live and work alone, or happen to find themselves without human contact during times of stress. My fiancee then suggested that I expand the scope to more needy people like the elderly that can't or won't always speak for themselves about how they feel. That version may require more resources than I am privy to unfortunately. If I get a chance to work with a Create, I would try to pack in as many features as possible.I would like the robot to have a some kind of visual representation of a face like an LCD and an interface so the human can interact with the robot. Voice recognition would be nice but a simple red and green button may have to do for now. The human would have to wear, in addition to the monitor, an IR emitter of some kind so the robot can find said human. It could be done cheaply with something like a promotional LED light worn on a lightweight anklet or even attached to a shoe. As a footnote, I'd like to say that anytime I'm tense, there's nothing quite like an episode of "Ask This Old House" to calm me down. Hmmm....

16 V AC POINT MOTOR?

Hi there, I would like to say hi to the instructables members for a start. Hi! I have always enjoyed reading from this site and I see that there is a lot of help in the topics posted here. I am a Computer Technician that now wants to play in the hardware game (Are you all enjoying Windows 10?). So I'm starting small with an arduino and the raspberry pi, (not side by side yet,) a few motors, servo's, 7" color crystal display, and other things that I have salvaged from stuff or found cheap. I have a few of these CD drive eject motors with lil' knobs I was reading this post about how to make an electric magnet as I am trying to manually make my own point motor for my model train set.  For those in and not in the know, here is some information about what I am trying to do. Create 2 electric magnet coils that pull or repel a nail or metal bar where an upright pin ~2-4 mm is able to travel a distance of ~6-8mm (oo Gauge) in order to change a track piece from one position of a "junction point" to the other, allowing the train to change track or take another route. I would like to try and do this myself as I have plenty of different types of gauge wire, dpdt's (for pole switch?), nails or metal bars(to act as middle pin maybe and bar to be pulled back and forth), diodes (for bridge rectifier) , resistors (to calm the voltage down if I have to as I think it will get rather warm else), a constant power supply (16V ac admittedly)  and plenty of BABY BABY small yet rather strong.. magnets..etc.. ( BTW These were taken from a motor that was inside some water speakers, for perfect reasons the motor had a spin disc attached to it with 3 very small magnets, then in the water compartment there is a spin disc with more magnets attached and a wirly-gig to create the siphon to jettison the water up when the music is played so I now own 60 of the little blighters, (that's if i need them at all to be honest I'm a little lost in this idea))  So please take me as a n00b and please help me in going about this. Yes I could go buy one, but what does that achieve, when I believe I have everything I need at my fingertips and I wish to learn. I presume I will need to deal with the constant AC in order to be able to make a switch to change the polarity of the two coils in order to pull or repel the magnet or nail in either direction to then move the tracks junction from one line to another. I'm going to try and make some coils, in some rather thin wire that is insulated.  Thanks again for any replies. EOL

How to Wash a Cat

Let me tell you how I bathe my cat.  This is no fluke. I have even taken a cat to a college class and given him a bath as a demonstration.  If anything would set a cat off, that would. I have even bathed cats that aren't mine. Take a big breath and relax. Your state of mind will influence his. Start with a clean counter next to the kitchen sink. Put towels on it. Don't have them so close to the sink that the cat could grab it.  I generally have the cat facing away from the towels and toward the water faucet.  Don't have him facing you.  He'll try to grab you and climb up your chest.  Get your shampoo opened and handy. Consider which hand will be easier for you to hold the cat and which to wash.  Set up your towels and sinks accordingly. Now, plug the side of the sink you'll be using to bathe the cat. In the other side, start the water. Get it to the temperature you want. Turn the pressure down to a slow flow - on that side. Put your cat into the empty, plugged up side of the sink, facing the wall. I have bathed a cat with and without a towel in the sink. Your choice. Let him watch the water for a few seconds until both of you relax. With your washing hand, cup your hand, fill it with water and "pet" your cat with it. Start on his back, not his head. Do this several times. Slowly move the faucet over to his side of the sink but not ON him. Continue "petting" him with water. If he's relatively calm, increase the water pressure so the sink is slowly filling. Remember, you're washing with one hand and restraining him gently with the other. Put some shampoo on him and water-pet and wash him. Have a little PLASTIC cup handy so you can scoop some of the water from his side of the sink and pour it over him (it has soap in it - might as well use it to the max). Continue washing until you are satisfied that he is clean. GENTLY remove the plug and let the water drain WHILE you are filling that cup with clean water and gently pouring it over him. Scratch and pet him frequently. Talk to him.  Rinse him thoroughly. When you are all done, let him drip a little.  You might want to gently squeeze his legs and tail to 'ring' some of the excess water off of him.  Then put him on the towels and wrap him up gently but quickly. Use old towels. If he has his claws he might snag them a little. Drying is the hardest part because he wants to run away. Dry him as best you can and then release him in a warm room. Don't let him outside until he is dry. I hope this works for you as it has for me.

Expriment : Lucid Dreaming #1

.Hi there. For those of you who don't know what's "Lucid dreaming", it's the ability to take the control of a dream by becoming fully aware in it, and to "visit" this alternate reality. (Note : GuyFrom7up made a instructable about an experimental lucid dream machine here )In most of our dreams, we're simple spectators. In fantasy, our imagination has to do all the work.In "lucid dreaming", the "dream world" is not generated by the same aware part of the brain that manages "imagination". The "dream world" is created "somewhere else" in our subconscious. So, becoming aware into this "dream world" is like an immersion into a video-game, or a virtual reality ...It is said that our awareness has the ability to change the content of this "virtual reality", that we are able to "create" objects just by imagining them, and that we can touch and manipulate them like if they were real, etc ...(it would be possible to write books or compose complete symphonies there for instance)I've just experienced my first lucid dream this morning. It was not a frightening experience at all. Thanks to it, I learned a lot about myself. When you're starting to sleep, a lot of random pictures and scenes appears in your mind. Most of them don't make sense at all ... Most of the time, when your brain tries to understand them as they appear, this interrupt them and you wake-up.When they come back, if your brain is too tired to analyse them, then, they "catch you" and you fall asleep. If you manage to "watch" them without interrupting them, your awareness will "follow" them, and you'll become aware into them.During my experience, I noticed something very interesting : My "awareness" was kind of separated in two parts : - there was my bad side who was controlling my "dream body" and acted like an evil entity who had just escaped from hell ................- and there was my wise side who was silently witnessing my other-side doing "evil things" ...(both were into the same dream body though. They were just thinking independently, like if they were no more mixed together, like if they were both "pure" ...)And at one moment, my wise side said : «Come on , look at what you're doing ...»And then, I had the choice to continue, or to wake up. And I woke up.Then, the question I asked to myself was : « who is aware ? »(or in other words : did I noticed, thanks to this experience, that my awareness of the everyday life is, in fact, a composite of two "struggling forces" of opposite nature, mixed together and acting like one in a same body, and separating from each others during the sleep ?)Also, this first experience was very unstable :- it was difficult to remain into this "dream world", because the awareness tends to use physical senses (physical eyes, physical ears, etc) instead of the "dream senses", and the dream tends to fade ...- also, I noticed that the dream was not clear and bright, probably because my "physical sight" and my "dream sight" were mixed together (there was some light into my bedroom that was filtering through my eyelids)That was a very interesting experience. I will try again, with the hope that my "evil side" will calm down a little and will let my wise side explore that inner universe in more serious way ............. =o)

I brought home a new puppy Sat and my 2 year old dog is not happy about her.

Hello, I have a wonderful neutered male, 2 year old Cavalier king charles named Bentley. Bentley Loves people, kids, other dogs, cats, everything and every one. Perhapes he has been a bit spoiled. He has been well socialized often taking dog park trips, took a socialization class as a pup.. we work on issues with a trainer as they come up.. he had been humping from time to time at the dog park so we were working through that. I love Bentley so much have wanted to add a second cavalier king charles for some time. We went meeting dogs and Bentley got on fine with them all on their territory and on neutral territory. We finally choose to go with an 8 week old female black and tan cavalier from the same breeder we got Bentley from but different parents (the dogs are actually co owned) They did fine on neutral territory but as soon as we got in the house Bentley was mad.. I have never seen him like that, Barking, snarling, at her. I separated them and have been trying to work things out with them gradually. It has only been a couple of days of course.  He also tries to push her under him and hump her, but she wiggles out as a small 4 lb puppy will, and he gets annoyed about that too. I can tell him "SIT" and it seems to redirect him. I am so in love with my new girl who I have named Velvet, already, so I need to make things work out. Bentley seems fine with her when they go out and potty, or are just calm together, sometimes something will set him off though, like if she gets too comfy on my lap he will start growl barking at her and acting like he might nip her but doesn't actually do it. though she does have slobber on her after. If she moves to my husbands lap he goes over to him and does the same reaction. then I have to separate them. Toys.. forget it, he will not let her have her toys or his. If they are just walking around together they seem fine.. but he does not like her getting playful or too snuggely with us.. he also gets mad if he notices her mouthing. (teething pups of course require that training) it is hard not to have him notice as we are correcting her.  I am trying to keep things equal, equal attention, when they are together (she is crated  a lot for house training anyways) They potty together and both get a treat, teaching her sit if he is there and sits they both get a treat. Both get petted at the same time together, and when Velvet went to the vet today I took Bentley along. These were all tips from the trainer I go to. I just have never seen this sweet doggie boy of mine so bent out of shape at another living thing. I just want re assurance that others have been through this, and had it all work out in the end, and give me tips as to what worked for them! I keep reading mixed advice on what to do in this situation so I am not sure what to do. I am leashing them for interactions right now of course for safety reasons and I am of course only allowing closely supervised play. Velvet also has a safe play area that I gated off with an xpen, where her crate is. They are eating in the same room, But Bentley does not care much about food anyways, never had a food aggression problem there.

Or just laugh at the annoyed faces of grammar pendants as you watch Steven fry shame them.  Now recently I made an instructable, it was named and "Breathe new life into an old computer" and being the grammar illiterate person I am, combined with the fact the article was written out of pure boredom, I misspelled the article title in two different places. Instead of "Breathe new life into an old computer" I wrote "Breath of new life into a old computer". The reason is, after writing the article, I felt the original title of "A breath of new life into a old computer" didn't really sound good. So I axed the A and called it a day (Rhyme not intended). It was late and without another thought I hit publish and eagerly awaited its appearance on the new ibles page. Nothing happened for 20 minutes, so I went to bed without a second thought. Maybe the database server just crashed or something :P The next day, after a long day of school, I eagerly sit down at my computer and watch youtube... After enjoying at least a few hours of Pwediepie screaming at disfigured goats and Linus (attempting) to colour a $500 motherboard I decide to check my Instructables page. A few clicks to my current Instructables page and WOAH. I see the featured banner draped proudly across the front of my project. My eyes dart down, desperately looking for a view counter and then they find it, "10 thousand views!" I cry. My mouse cursor automatically clicks, my world in slow motion, I scroll down... 3 comments greet me. I just sit there, mouth wide open. A crazy thought slams right into my face, my mouse cursor waddles over to the corner of the screen and suddenly the homepage sits there, my project stands in its little box, like an expensive toy, on display for all to see. My mind is racing, In disbelief. I look around, a hidden camera maybe, I shout upstairs to my brother "good prank". But all I hear is a surprised moan, "what?!" he shouts.  It took me a few hours for anything, whether it be ME being featured, or the chicken I had for dinner, to sink in. But eventually it did and I took a some rotting fleshes advice, Keep Calm and Carrion. The last thing on my mind at this point was spell checking, no one in the comments had pointed anything out, and well... I couldn't see anything wrong. It's like that thing when you're looking for something in that horrific mess you call a fridge, after spending what seems like hours looking at every little detail you still can't find the butter. Then your girl friend, Wife or Mum comes along and after giving you a lecture on tidiness they find that one thing you're looking for instantly... Anyway, I decide in the spirit of things I will go and enjoy some facebook, I take a trip to the Instructables facebook page and see my article, AWESOME! I open up the comments section and... Correcting my grammar Correcting more of my grammar I'm not an English professor Correcting my grammar Correcting my grammar Someone who doesn't understand that: 1. I am not American, 2. Americans are smart and awesome people Correcting my grammar Someone who uses such bad grammar that I can't even figure out what they are saying   Now at the sight of this I quickly ran back to my article and changed the picture and title, on facebook... It doesn't update. I have learned my lesson, proofread and double check your article, before you post!  What can you take away from this? What I have learnt:  Theres no 'Be Nice' policy on the internet Proofread your work! Admins are humans and might not pick up on a spelling mistake Write every ible like its the best one you have ever made, because you never know, your ible might be featured down the road and you will just wish that you double checked that title and fixed that little spelling mistake. Also dont ever use facebook because :( it dosnt update live :P lol The Facebook Post My Instructables

Why?: Contest, Finalists, OAE, and... WHAT?

EDIT: This has turned out to be a really long post. Please see the top comment if you don't want to read everything, or if you aren't a scanner (seriously...). I did my best to stop my longforumtopicisitis disease... I don't really know how to write this "topic". I know I'm not the only one that's a bit upset about it. I'll do my best to keep it short, but if you might get pretty confused if you don't read (almost) everything. I would really like to hear your 100% HONEST opinion. I am looking for criticism. Don't worry if your response sounds harsh. Thank you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Instructables member OAE has posted several forum topics about contest winners in the past months. I understand the fact that he is annoyed some Instructables that win in contests aren't original, aren't documented very well, and lack pictures. It does bug me a bit when these types of Instructables win, but I guess that there's normally a reason for that, since most contests don't lack entries... He also mentioned the fact that he was pretty annoyed about the fact that he doesn't win. I DO NOT want to insult him in any way, but even though his Instructables are fairly well documented, I wouldn't expect for one of his Instructables to be a finalist. Brooklyntonia wrote that "A paper airplane on a cutting mat doesn't scream click and vote.", and I agree. However, I seem to have the same (I think) problem with my Instructables, and I think that it has  just gotten a bit too much. I've won in 3 contest with 86 I'bles (think of that as 50, if you know what I mean...), which is why I feel a bit weird for "complaining". It's not that I publish Instructables just for winning in contests. Far from that. SOOOOOOOO MANY times in the past year, I have posted an Instructable that I was absolutely positive that would win in a contest, but it wasn't even a runner up! I have SO MANY! It would take me an hour to post half of them, but here are some: Articulating 70W Spectrum-Balanced LED Panel for the Lamps & Lighting Contest How to Make a Wooden 6" Bench-Vise for the Wood Contest The Flat-Pack Bandsaw for the Flat-Pack Contest (less than the others, though...) How to Build a Wooden Drill-Press Vise for the Hand-tools Only Contest 9 Unusual Tool Storage Methods for Your Workshop for the Living without Closets Contest Make Your Own Plywood Mallet! for the Plywood Contest World's Most Over-Engineered 14-in-1 Soldering Station! for the Leftovers Contest Please correct me if I'm wrong: These Instructable are featured, well documented, meet the contests requirements, contain well lit high quality photos, are original (90%, of course...). I "politely encourage" people to vote only in an Instructable that I think will win... I would understand not winning at all once or twice, but not even being a runner up even once? WHAT am I doing SO HORRIBLY WRONG? What discourages me even more is that even though I want to build something that I really need, I will wait for months until a contest opens, start making, spend a ton of time on the Instructable, and then I realise that I waited for so long, and my I'ble hasn't even won! Benne, however, even though we both publish somehow similar content, has mastered this somehow! If I make something, I have to type up the Instructable immediately, because my short term memory is pretty bad. I wrote about this a bit here. If I calm the excitement down, I might be able not to publish it right away, but that will just discourage me, since I will feel that I haven't accomplished anything (aka positive feedback, etc...). Then after waiting several months, I will publish the I'ble and still not win? Imagine your boss, at work, saying "Okay (your name), you've spent 10 hours working, but I'm going to pay you only next year. Oh, nevermind, we're having budget cuts. I'm not going to pay you at all" Wait, WHAT? WHY? I'm making this sound as if it's a bet, which is okay since you don't get "paid" from Instructables, but never getting anything at all is annoying. Also, publishing Instructables is not extremely addicting (A REAL one... ;)  I think I am following the contest guidelines, but not winning again, and again... Why? Is there something that I don't know? Thank you for reading!

Don't try this at home, EVER ! The trip to NYC

Ah, I have finally gotten a little time to put some of the details up about my Trip (definition of trip, to stumble, fall, or to almost fall....) to NYC. The bus ride to Manhattan was uneventful. We were dropped off behind the Winter Garden Theater at 50th St. and 7th Ave. For those familiar with the city, this is a little north of Rockefeller Center, and a little west of Radio Music Hall. My little adventure started with me being a little greedy with what I wanted to see on this short day trip. I started down 7th Ave. and decided to scoot over to Broadway. In walking down Broad way (heading south, now) one have to be careful as it crosses the other blocks on a diagonal and it is very easy to lose the road and end up on 7th (and further south; you start ending up on 6th Ave - the Ave. of the Americas). The blocks heading south were shorter then those in the East - West directions. Walking through the Theatre District, and finally reaching Times Square (which is on 7th Ave), I was taking my fair share of pictures (Later, after I get them all posted, I will have to get my Sis in Law to help me identify the buildings, etc.) . Moving from Times square, I get the Garment District. This was a fairly quick walk for me, I didn't see much I really was impressed by there. Madison Square Park, was a nice little area, and then came the weirdest building I have EVER seen (and I have seen a house the shape of a shoe), I came upon the Flatiron building (see pics). In the Flatiron District was Union Square park. A fairly small park. Now, the streets going East and West were numbered, and I had started at 50th St. I was now at 12th, where Broadway becomes University Pl. and it ends at Washing Square Park. This was a nice little park too, so I got a few pictures of it. By this time, not having had a breakfast, I thought it would be good to find something to eat. I moved west along 4th st. until I got to Broadway again. Once I got into Soho (South Houston), I started getting a little turned around (I had just walked nearly 50 blocks). When I got to Canal Street, it was so crowded, I only went about one block on the street and didn't find anything of interest, so I continued on south on Cortland. Somewhere in this area I found (somehow I got to Chamber's St) I found a little Indian restaurant called Jhankar. It was a pleasant atmosphere, and the food was good. I continued on Chambers to get to the east side. I saw the World Financial Center, and eventually found Ground Zero. I took a few pics of what I could see. I did wonder around Battery Park a bit too long, and finally asked someone how to get to the Staten Isl. ferry docking point. I was told it was another 20+ minute walk further south (I was already at the other ferry docking ports and had already walked for over 4-5 hours). He let me know of the Shuttle bus, which the city pays for, which would pick me up and drop me off right outside the area of the Staten Isl ferry. That was a really decent little ferry ride too. 1/2 hour over, 1/2 back. Now it was getting to be near 6 PM and I thought I had better have a little to eat before heading back to 50th st. After walking a few blocks, I realized I was NOT going to make it in time. I looked for a Subway terminal but found none (I had already walked as far as getting back up to the most southern tip of Chinatown. I walked (very briskly) up to Bleecker St. looking for a subway or a cab. I finally got a cab waved down (I am just NOT the type of person that waves down cabs), and we headed off. I called the Bus driver. He said it shouldn't be long, he should get me there in time; and said traffic is a bit heavy here on 4th street. He nearly blew a fuse (and he had just reason too).....but he calmed down and said he'd circle the block and hope I got there soon, and to give him a call when I did. Fortunately, when I finally got back to 50th and 7th, it was only 12 minutes late and he had just pulled up with the bus. Besides the quarter sized blister on the ball of my right foot, and the lunch/brunch I had I brought nothing home with me (well, I forgot about the sunburn on my head.....yeah yeah, I should have worn a cap). All in all, it was nice to see everything......and I will never again walk 70+ blocks just to see everything again. I will become familiar with the subways, as that is about the cheapest way to go (except the shuttle bus). And I am about as stiff as I can be....now for some pictures. UPDATE:More pics UPDATE #2 The few remaining pictures I have left have been uploaded with these to my Facebook album NYC Trip

No one else was hurt. The shooting began near a fountain in front of the UT Tower — the site of one of the nation's deadliest shooting rampages more than four decades ago, when a gunman ascended the clock tower and fired down on dozens of people. Within hours of Tuesday's gunfire, the school issued an all-clear notice, but the university remained closed, and the area around the library was still considered a crime scene. "Our campus is safe," school President Bill Powers said. Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo expected the school to be "completely open and back to normal" by Wednesday morning. Authorities identified the gunman as 19-year-old Colton Tooley, a sophomore math major. His parents did not immediately respond to a message left by The Associated Press. The 50,000-student university had been on lockdown while officers with bomb-sniffing dogs carried out a building-by-building manhunt. After the gunfire, authorities searched for a possible second shooter, but they eventually concluded the gunman acted alone. Confusion about the number of suspects arose because shots were fired in multiple locations, and officers received varying descriptions from witnesses, campus police Chief Robert Dahlstrom said. Before reaching the library, the gunman apparently walked for several blocks wearing a mask and dark clothing and carrying an automatic weapon, witnesses said. Construction worker Ruben Cordoba said he was installing a fence on the roof of a three-story building near the library when he looked down and made eye contact with the suspect. "I saw in his eyes he didn't care," Cordoba said. The gunman continued down the street, firing three shots toward a campus church, then changed direction and fired three more times into the air, Cordoba said. A garbage truck driver leaped out of his vehicle and ran away, as did a woman carrying two babies, the construction worker said. "I'm not scared, but I was scared for the people around me," Cordoba said. Randall Wilhite, an adjunct law professor, said he was driving to class when he saw "students start scrambling behind wastebaskets, trees and monuments," and then a young man carrying an assault rifle sprinting along the street. "He was running right in front of me ... and he shot what I thought were three more shots ... not at me. In my direction, but not at me," Wilhite said. The professor said the gunman had the opportunity to shoot several people, but he did not. Police said it was unclear whether the gunman was targeting anyone with the AK-47. Oscar Trevino, whose daughter works on campus, said she told him she was walking to work near the library when she heard two shots behind her. She started to run and fell down. She said she later heard another shot. "She's freaking out. I'm trying to calm her down. I've just been telling her I love her and relax, everything's fine," Trevino said. Acevedo said officers were able to track the gunman's movements with the help of students who "kept pointing in the right direction." The police chief said he believes the gunman ran into the library as officers closed in on him, then shot himself in the head on the sixth floor. Police did not fire any shots, Acevedo said. Powers credited the school's crisis-management plan and social networking for quickly warning students, faculty and staff. The university's text messaging system reaches more than 43,000 people, he said. Laura Leskoven, a graduate student from Waco, said she was in a media management class when she received a text message from the university saying there was an armed person near the library. For the next 3 1/2 hours, Leskoven and about 30 of her classmates sat in a locked conference room trying to keep tab on events through Twitter, blogs and text messages. "We were kind of shocked," Leskoven said. "Our professor said, 'Well, we need to get upstairs' because we were on the first floor of the building." Student Joshua Barajas said he usually is in the library in the mornings but was delayed Tuesday when he made a rare stop for coffee. "These little mundane decisions could save your life. If I hadn't stopped for coffee — and I never stop for coffee because it's $4 — I could have been in that building," Barajas said. "It's creepy. I don't even want to think about it." On Aug. 1, 1966, Charles Whitman went to the 28th floor observation deck at the UT clock tower in the middle of campus and began shooting at people below. He killed 16 people and wounded nearly three dozen before police killed him about 90 minutes after the siege began. ___ Associated Press writers April Castro and Jim Vertuno in Austin, Ramit Plushnick-Masti in Houston, and Diana Heidgerd in Dallas contributed to this report.

Your War Stories

Everyone who has played war simulation games probably has a story to tell, I know I have a few. I would like to hear about your past experiences. This being the internet, anybody can claim to have done anything. Please try to be honest in your stories. Paintball:I was pinned down behind a tree that was barely the width of my body. Three enemies were bunkered up behind a felled tree in front of me, all of them shooting. I could hear their bullets whizzing inches from my head, and I was getting covered in splatter from the paintballs breaking across the tree. If I moved even an inch, I would be exposed. I was completely helpless. One of my buddies ran up to help, taking cover on my right. He was gunned down in less than a minute. I was trapped behind that tree for what seemed like an eternity. Luckily, one of my teammates (we call him Rambo) flanked the bunker, ran up from behind, and shot all of them in the back. When I looked at the cover I was behind, the tree and surrounding area was completely painted. I was on a speedball course behind cover, exchanging fire with (of all people) my brother. I look up, and he is charging up the field directly at me. Panicked, I take some shots at him and nailed him in a very sensitive area. He immediately went down and stayed down for several minutes, rolling around in pain. I captured it on my Gun-cam, you can see the paintball hit it's mark.(I've got plenty of good paintball stories, but I want to keep this short.)Airsoft:We were playing Ambush: VIP, and I was the VIP (No gun. I die, we loose). The course consisted of trails in the woods which lead to an open field. I had to go through the woods and across the field to a designated endpoint. The first leg was uneventful, we saw no action through the trails. When we reached the tree line, we decided it was best to book it across the field. We ran to the tree line, my bodyguard about ten feet ahead of me. He was the first to break the tree line. As soon as he did, he was shot up the leg and chest from near point blank range by a full auto MP5 and toppled over. As soon as I saw this I tried to do three things at once (thinking Oh Spit!): come to a sudden stop from a full on sprint, change direction, and book it in the opposite direction. Let's just say I face-planted and got shot up on the ground. I was stalking a guy who was facing me, staying just inside his peripherals (at least ten feet away). I shot him and, knowing the noise would attract others, immediately went prone in my ghillie suit. I was right, his teammate showed up to investigate. I took him out easily. This attracted a third teammate. I waited a good five minutes and, thinking he had gone, stood up to flank him. Turns out I stood up right in front of him and was subsequently lit up like a Christmas tree. (All these stories may make it sound like I suck at paintball/airsoft, but the most memorable events are often your worst.)Edit.I actually ended up writing an English paper on one of these stories. The Clearing A ski mask pulled over his face, Robert steadied his AK-47. The surrounding shadows merged with his dark sweatshirt and jeans. Shifting his weight, he anxiously scanned the path ahead. Both of us were sitting ducks here, he knew it. We had come to a fork in the road, providing us with two options. We could continue down the well-worn dirt path, or divert to a small, overgrown trail. "Come on." Robert whispered, eying the smaller trail, "Let's go."The objective was simple; navigate a maze of trails through the woods, cross an open field, and reach an endpoint on the other side. There was just one small problem; I must make it to the endpoint alive. I was the designated V.I.P., forbidden to carry a firearm and it was game over if I died. It was Robert's duty to escort me to the endpoint in one piece. Robert disappeared into the overgrown trail. Waiting ten seconds, I continued after him. Pushing aside ferns and thorn bushes, Robert and I slowly advanced. We knew it would be safe, they wouldn't expect us to follow this trail. Nonetheless, we kept a wary eye on the trees and bushes ahead. It was unusually hot, and I was beginning to sweat under my stuffy ghillie suit. The surrounding woods were eerily silent, a calm before the storm. As if on cue, there was a rustle off to our right. Immediately, Robert raised and lowered his palm, swinging his rifle in the direction of the sound. Catching his signal, I crouched low to the ground, adrenaline seeping through my veins. Tense, we waited for the seemingly inevitable. More rustling, this time accompanied by flapping. Robert's finger tightened against the trigger. A form shot out of the bushes, rapidly ascending to the branches above. It is just a bird. Sighing with relief, we rose and continued down the trail. We arrived at the edge of the woods, beyond which lay a small clearing. A mere one hundred feet separated us from the awaiting endpoint on the other side. One hundred feet of open field, it might as well have been a thousand. Robert and I came to the decision that we run across as fast as possible. We would be completely exposed, our fate placed at the mercy of the clearing. Drawing a deep breath, Robert sprinted toward the tree line. I followed, maintaining a distance of ten feet. Approaching a full sprint, Robert burst into the clearing. He managed to complete five strides before a sharp rat-tat-tat shattered the silence. Time slowed, Robert cried out in pain and toppled into the tall grass. He had taken several hits up the chest and legs at point blank range. A dark figure rose from the bushes directly ahead, looming above the surrounding flora. I was sprinting, full speed, to my doom. My mind went blank, overridden by three instincts: stop, turn around, and run. I attempted to complete all of these tasks simultaneously: come to a dead stop from a full sprint, turn one hundred and eighty degrees, and run. Momentum sternly disagreed, sending me in an awkward flying flop to the ground. Stunned, I lay on the forest floor at the edge of the woods. Regaining my senses, I felt several bee stings crawl up my back. I was hit, game over.

Flea treatment for our pets....

I recently had to move house and within two weeks of settling in my cats got attacked by fleas while outside. All the years they had not a single tick or flea so I did not pay too much attention until I spotted the first flea. Needless to say that once you spot one there are many hiding already... From past experience with my dog I did not trust the over the counter flea collars and decided to go to my vet. They recommended Frontline for the treatment, plus a flea bomb to treat the house and washing everything the cats like to sleep on. Came to just under $100AU - ouch... Mind you I have hardwood floors here, so I was quite confident the bomb would could kill all what might remain inside. The cats were kept indoors too to prevent new fleas finding them outside. Well, after two weeks of daily combing for fleas the problem did not get better - it got worse! Seemed they were having parties on my cats. Back to the vet to complain I was told it might take a bit longer to show the desired results. Hmmm, treatment every 4 weeks and after 2 weeks nothing happened?? On the way out an old couple with their two maltesers stopped me and said that they already gave up on Frontline and most other products as the fleas around here are resistant to the meds. They now only use Neem oil that is massaged into the skin and fur of their dogs. Sadly my cats would rather scratch me into meat strips then to let get near them with the oil. So I did some asking around with my friend Google and the story of the old folks seems to be confirmed for most parts of Australia anyway. Most flea collars and over the counter meds might still work to keep fleas away but not anymore to actually treat your pet once infected with more than a handful of fleas. And yes, I am aware of those sprays claiming to kill all fleas instantly but I also know cats like to clean themself and don't like the idea of them liking the spray off the fur. After some more digging I found out that Selamectin is still working and that works in several ways to control fleas and other parasites like heartworm and such. You can look it up on Wiki if you like. What I like about this med is the fact that fleas are really filthy things eating their own excremts. Since the poo is usually everywhere in the fur and hard to remove it makes the killing even easier. Plus in all spots where fles might be hiding but have noone to feed on they still eat their own ..... and die off. My vet only had Revolution available at a price of almost 25 bucks per single dose - no thank you... Instead I decided to bite the bullet and try one of the many online pharmacies for pet supplies. Here I found "Stronghold" containing the above Selamectin similar to Revolution in concetration (bit higher though)... The website stated to expect about 4 weeks for the delivery being xmas season and so on. For me that meant cleaning everything again, using a normal insect bomb again and a last round of washing the cats caves and other items of interest. To my surprise the parcal arrived ten days later, bit banged up but contents still fine. All up the time for the Frontline was over anyway and instead of paying again for a useless treatment I gave the new stuff a try. This was now two weeks ago and here is my summary: Unlike treating with Frontline my cats actually tolerated the application without going mad, the smell is much more pleasant. Did not expect anything to happen the first day and it takes a while to dry off the furr anyway so they got a day free of the dreaded flea comb. During the first week there was little to no indication of anything good happening but it was to be expected as it takes up to 10 days to build up in the blood as well. On day eight I had my first dead fleas in the comb and from here it got more every day. Mostly the adults while the smaller ones still seemd to be active. To the end of the second week I also got dead young ones in the comb indicating the promised break preventing them to grow up actually works. I will still monitor the process and keep up with monthly treatments during the summer. So you might see an update or two later on. How to properly treat your pet and enviroment once you noticed a flea problem. First: Don't panic! If you have carpet or your pets literally go everyhwere like your bed, sofa and so on you want to combine your effords to avoid a fresh infestation from hatching eggs. Ask around or check online if standard meds still have the desired effect in your local area, if not go for a product that does instead of wasting time and money! Spray treatments or insect bombs can work quite well to control what's left behind by your pet but you need to be aware of the life cycle of the pest in question. For most, including fleas, this means a single treatment might not do the trick. See it that way: You treat the animal, clean everything you can and also kill whatever crawls around. But there is still unhatched eggs and living fleas on your pet. So you need or better should repeat the house treatment 8 to 14 days later to get rid of whatever hatched. Garden beds or just your lawn can be a source of problem too, here Neem oil seems to do the trick quite well but you can use other products from your local garden center as well. What kills most harmful insects out there on your plant will do similar on fleas. To get the timing of all treatments right you might want to start on your pet and use a good, normal clean for the house and fabrics. Once you see the fleas go dead on your pet treat the rest. This way you can be sure all fles that make it onto your pet won't survive or produce more viable eggs. Now use whatever suits you to remove or kill the eggs, larvea and crawling fleas around you. If done right and the meds take care of eggs too you won't have any further problems. Regular checks should be done anyway and if you already know fleas are a problem in your area then please continue the treatment on your pet until the season is over. Things you might want to know to calm down a bit and prevent panic: Fleas on your pet are usually only biting them but not you. This does not mean they won't try if you have hundreds of them crawling in your bed. But they won't stay on you and it takes a good amount of bad luck to get bitten instead of just noticing something crawls on you. So the risk of getting some weird desease from an accidental flea bit is slim. When to be careful with a flea infestation? If you are allergic to their excrements or have an otherwise compromised immune system the dust containing flea excrements can cause reactions. So if your pets got you a lot of fleas and you notice breathing problems, red skin areas or itching you should contact your GP to discuss the problem and possible options. Short term a normal paper face mask like used for dust will help, same for anti-histamines if it is an allergic reaction. The best cause of action is to use a vacuum cleaner with HEPA filter on everything that might get into contact with your pets. A standard vacuum cleaner will pick up the extremets too but just blows it out the other end making things far worse.

Ancient technologies revisited - being one with nature

Talking about aliens, gods, higher beings and such is almost unavoidable when it come to examples of technology from a time when did not even have the brains to think in the regions required. But we need to find some substitute for the word god and gods. The ancient text provide us with "people from the sky" or "people from the stars".With our modern brains and understanding of advanced technologies we have to think about astronauts and visitors from other planets. It is just the way our brains are wired now.Ancient technology however also includes the most basic technologies and techniques that we either don't know or that got lost through time.I would like to give some examples that show that with a bit of research outside "aliens" people can come up with amasing discoveries. You can find ancient stone walls that look like their individual blocks were cut with a gigantic laser scalpel and then finished with a nice soft rounding. And those "bumps" found on only some of these blocks are said by our archeologists to have been used to place them - but of course they can't provide and answer how they were placed.Experts in their fields analysed the rock and found no evidence of the heat a laser would create.Although they did not consider fempto second lasers...And they also discarded the theory the ancient people used some big bags and "cement" that turned into rock - it is natural rock...However they found several and quick quick ways to dissolve and soften the rock. All with "ingredients" naturally occuring in the area.Like an acedic mud mix that would dissolve the calcium in the rock and even some more aggressive solutions working much quicker.Tests performed indicate it would only take about two weeks to make blocks covered in this slurry to move together with an airtight fit.Once in contact there is no slurry left on the surface and once the fit and surface fiish is satisfactory you just wash the remains off with water...A lot of ancient ruins or even the pyramids show extreme accuracy.Archeologists came with up with a lot of horse manure but never with anything explaining how the ancient builder were able to plan these structures. After all you can just made a crude drawing and get in some case millimeter precision.Especially measuring the height of a big structure was said to be impossible for these simple folks, so they must have had gods or aliens to guide them.Maybe they really provided some home schooling but in reality the task is not that hard.Imagine you would the big pyrmids in Aegypt. You would be god like and only the pharao would be above you.No wonder then that you knew once finished you would find your final resting place inside...Being the smart kid you are you of course properly marked where the center would be and in which direction the sides would face....And you would not just "know" that, you would have a detailed plan to construct it and the required more or less permanent markers on the ground.Like in todays times you would start with the right foundations. So, no matter what you would always have very accurate refence points on the ground through the build process.Means you can quite easy measure the distance from any given point on the ground to where the center of your foundations would be.If you then place someone on the top and center of your current progress you can also measure the distance to that point with the same accuracy.Wives you triangle with a 90° angle....I know you know say I would still need a half decent calculator to use thelengths and angle to come with the height - but do I?a² + b² = c² Sounds familiar from your ancient days in school? ;)You have c and one of the other two, so for example c² - b² would give you a²And my grandfather told me stories about his apprenticship where he used tables ans slide rulers to do math like this.So why wouldn't these ancient builders know these things that are just based on properly understand a circle? ;)Advanced machining skills....Many example on how people in ancient times might have cut through several meters granite exist.Be it ropes with a sand slurry or using discardable wooden slates with heavy weights on them with such a slurry. But when it comes to drilling long and perfect holes the best thing people seem to come up with is again aliens and their advanced tech. You could drill through granite by other means though and still get really nice drill marks....For example by acoustic vibration - a thing te ancient aegypts were good at.Some people liked to demonstrate how acoustic frequency can do impossible things. The measured the resonant frequency of a granit block. In a way that they could create node where the hole was supposed to start.Means you experiment with the transducer until you get a max response at the desired location.Like magic a copper pipe with a supporting slurry and slow rotation started to "drill" into the block. At some point and due to the change of shape and loss of material the node was no longer strong enough for the effect and the frequency had to be adjusted, then the pipe kept drilling a bit further. The resulting marks on the walls of that hole almost perfectly matched the marks of ancient holes, including those on the leftover core bits.If you now say the ancient eagypts had no means to create powerful enough transducer then please check the collecting of oversized "tuning forks" several of our museums have. Some even with strings still attached between the two short ends, some models where several forks are tied together with these very strong cords.Strong after hundreds of years...Many were tested and all had very specific and accurace frequencies with the long end of the pitch fork being at the perfect length for a mac amplitude.Check how ultrasonic horn work for inducers ;)I could continue with many more examples but I think you got the idea here. Not everything we can't explain has to be alien of some highly advanced technology, often it is so dead simple that we just would never consider to look in this direction.A trout appears to be able to be basically motionless in a very fast flowing river. You can see they are able to "rest" as well as their breathing is very slow - no signs of movement, no energy use, how do they do this?A trout does not swim through the water, the water pulls it.Only if the water is not moving or is not moving right towards the trout it has to swim.Clearly indicated when you check show fast they have move to swim down the fast river. They should be able to just float down and only move to keep their heading....In reality however the water constantly tries to turn them around - like this nice directional arrow on your weather station on the roof...A resting fish in a river will always directly face the current and you will never really see them seeking a calm region behind some big rock or such.Put a trout in a tank with no current you will have a hard time seeing it standing still in it....Vortexes, harmonics and geometry are nature.Nature does not like straight lines or shortcuts and certainly has no clue about higher math.Still it is only higher math and computer simulations that allow us to understand a lot of things nature does by design.Maybe our ancient cousins did not get any technological help at all from higher beings.Maybe they were just shown how to use nature and the energies it provides. We are bound to science and math. With that we try to explore and understand things we can only theorise about. If in doubt with particle accelerators....Is there a difference to what we call science and math today to what was the purpose or religion only a few hundred years ago?We try to explain and utilise things for integration that we actually have no real clue about ;)What if the approach is the wrong one?Try to calculat how the next layer of a shell from a snail would look like, how thick it needs to be.You evening would be filled while the snail does not even have enough brain cells to comprehend your problem with it.If math would be based on a true and unbisaed observation of nature and the universe we would have the universal language the bible states we once had ....Our math has fundamental flaws otherwise we would have no problem at all to calculate the vortex structure and behavior of a tornado or water vortex. And of course we would not need a claculator to get from the radius of a circle to its circumfence - we would know as naturally as we know know that 2 times 3 equals 6.It will be subject of another part of this series ;)
