lawn mower wont run

Hi I have a Huskquavarna lawn mower I bought for $25 last year. The gas tank and carb were completely gummed up. I cleaned up the gas tank and rebuilt the carb and it ran fine all last summer, So this year I haul it out and put some gas in it won't run! The gas I put in it is kind of old but that never stopped it in the past. I know it has a good spark as when I spray a little carb cleaner in it fires right up,, until the "fuel" carb cleaner is used up. I cleaned up the carb (took it apart, blew it out, and cleaned it still it just5 wont suck the gas or what? Any suggestions?

Favorite Low Carb Recipes?

My other half and I have recently come to the conclusion: you can only eat so much talapia. We need help. He's a type one diabetic (the kind you get when you're a kid and some nasty virus destroys your poor pancreas) so that means limited carbs, and preferably the good kind of carbs (fruits, whole grains, etc). I've tried looking up recipes online only to find several very fancy, very expensive low carb dishes. Please help. We are college students who cannot turn to Ramen for this solution! Cheers and many thanks to you, Heather

Carburettor Heater - need help

Hi All, Hope this is in the right section. I am working on a project to heat the body of a carburettor (Bing 84) in order to prevent carb icing.  No commercial solution exists for my carburettor.  My engine (for paramotoring) is air cooled so can't use water from cooling system. My idea was to strip out the nichrome heating element from a car cigarette lighter and use that.  The heat needs to be applied to the metal casing of the carburettor, preferably being hottest near the air intake side of the carb.  I decided the best place was where the air filter is attached - a 12mm long metal throat with a 35mm diameter The trouble is, I don't know I can transfer the hundreds of degrees of temperature from the nichrome to the metal body of the carb without just shorting out the battery.  If I am to have a layer of insulation between the nichrome and the carburettor, what can I use that will conduct heat but not electrical current, and withstand around 300 degrees of heat?  I also thought about reducing the current and spreading the heating over a larger portion of the metal casing, which would allow the temperature to be lower. I have also been experimenting with motorbike hand grip heaters that run of 12v but they don't generate enough heat - I need to be pumping in around 8-10A as the internal cooling effect of the fuel vaporising rapidly causes sub zero conditions inside the carb even when the outside air temperature is well above freezing.  I have a 7Ah li-ion which I would only switch on when required (maybe have a latching push button on throttle control). It may not be doable but its an interesting project nonetheless and something I am going to play around with.  Any ideas? Thanks, Dug

Do I need a fuel outlet on the underside of the carburetor on my Honda engine ?

The bottom of the carburetor on my motorbike-now-go kart engine has a fuel outlet with a needle pin for adjustment. can this be blocked up?....is it needed to make the engine work? or does it need as fuel pipe to connect to somewhere?obviously the fuel inlet comes into the carb from the top but this hole comes out the opposite side on the bottom.

Zenith 68-7 Bendix Carb Help? Answered

I have been working on my Wisconsin AENL engine for a project (A bike or now I am thinking maybe a racing lawnmower) and I had it running since I re-built it, however, it was running a bit off, so I cleaned the carb.  Afterward it wouldn't run.  I did not adjust any of the settings on it, and I can put gas in through the spark plug hole and it fires, so I am sure it is the carb.  I have since moved the settings (Idle and high speed jet) to see what would happen, but I have kept note of where they were set.  Usually I have no problem fixing engines, however, I don't have as much experience with these engines or there carbs and thought it a good idea to seek some help before proceeding. Thanks

Propane used as fuel in Petrol generator?

Hello, Please read through this thoroughly.  I'm planning on buying a petrol generator and running it on propane however I wish to still be able to use petrol without too much hassle, I have made some plans on which components need to go where and what I need to buy. I have a fairly good understanding of how the, engine, carb, fuel tank, ect works. I was just wondering if it would be safe and if it could cause any problems to the generator or even me (explosion hazard). I have uploaded a picture to demonstrate what I mean press the I at the top left hand corner to make the photo bigger :) This is a 4 stroke engine so it has a reservoir of oil built in to lubricate all the components as necessary to keep the engine running   Things I need to know. Will it damage the engine not being lubricated and cooled by petrol. Could the propane tank/carb/engine or anything explode? - is it likely Are there any other risks I have overlooked. your opinion of the design if you think it will work and any tips on making it better. Stuff I'm using: -  most will be bought on eBay Generator -  1kw not 100% decided which one I'm getting. Regulator - 37mb 8mm hose connector 1kg/hour. I understand it is 8mm however I will stretch a hose over it no problem  T piece - 6mm barbed T piece for fuel lines  Fuel On Off valve - Barbed 6mm hose connector  6mm unleaded fuel line 2 meter - hose from fuel tank to on off valve to t piece to engine 6mm orange propane gas line from T piece to 1 way valve, regulator, propane tank - although it is a 8mm regulator it will stretch on to the fitting nicely. 50cc 2 Stroke Tuning? Answered

I have an old moped that I got for cheap and I am trying to fix it up. I replaced the carburetor and the new one is a little bigger even though it is off of another 50cc. It insisted on running extremely lean, but I was able to get the fuel/air mix balanced by putting some foil tape over part of the intake to get more vacuum behind it. It will only run right if the exhaust is on so that it is not lined up perfectly with the exhaust port on the cylinder. If the exhaust is taken off it will start first kick, but if it is lined up the way it should be it will not start. I took it off today and when I put it back on as close to the way it was before it would start but is now running very lean, beyond what I can tune out with the carburetor. If I give it full throttle it bogs and has no power, but it has fair power at 1/3 to 1/2 throttle. It also is getting really hot and has absolutely no power once it gets very hot. Yesterday I hat it all just right and it ran with none of these problems except that full throttle was still not where it got full power. Does any one have any ideas about what I have to do to make it run right? Maybe there is no option but careful misalignment of the muffler? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It turns out that the problems were that the muffler was clogged, and that it was running too lean at first, but too rich once it warmed up. Thank you for you suggestions.

Calling all small engines mechanics!

I have a problematic Ariens YT12 tractor that I have been meddling around with all summer trying to make run perfectly. If I make a video and post it on youtube, to show what it's been doing lately, can someone help me out??!?? I got kinda drunk one weekend and I think I revved the sh*t out of it, the weird things is, I can cut grass with it at full throttle for 2 hours but as soon as I go to rev the engine higher with my modified gas pedal or when I'm adjusting the carb, it just revs up then it starts to sputter and it wants to stall. It's really weird, and although I think I could use a new crankcase gasket, I know the engine is not blown, I'm wondering if maybe I've melted something in the carb, considering how close the carb is to the exhaust pipe on this machine, and the fact that it's a hot running machine (I remember shutting it off one night when it was dark after cutting grass for two hours, the bolts the hold the exhaust on the engine were glowing bright orange.) Anyways I won't bother explaining too much of it, but I'm wondering what I did to my baby and I know a video would probably clarify things a lot better. Something needs to be replaced on it, I know for a fact, it's just a matter of what. I figure even a new carb kit to replace the gaskets and the needle and pin would probably help oodles.

Why won't my two stroke run?

I have a two stroke weed eater engine (actually from a tiller but it's the exact same) and I am having trouble getting it to run. I have the carb screw tightened all the way so the carb is opened up as much as it can be but when I start it, it coughs like it wants to die then it dies. If I squeeze the throttle a little it will continue running or if I squeeze it all the way it will still run. It just won't run if I let it sit. Also, I am intending to use it to put on a bike and it has a clutch but it doesn't really work that well. It will engage without even squeezing the throttle. Any idea of where I can get a small geared clutch that will fit it? Thanks.

Why does my lawn mower engine keep dying?

I am in a night class called Design for Industry. In that class we design, make, and test a mini indycar.  We are using the same car from last year, but the previous teacher didn't exactly car about the car, or so it seems. We had to fix the wiring, key ignition, solenoid and starter motor. After we got the wiring and electrical all fixed, we decided to take the car out and try to run it. It did run, but it was rough. If we wanted it to idle while just sitting it wouldn't do it,however. If I (the driver)  slowing opened the choke and gave it gas, the car would start moving and go pretty well. It would go around the track for maybe 100ft. and then it would just cut off. I tried not taking my foot off the gas, but that still didn't work(only caused me to spin out around the corner lol). So we took it inside and put it on jack stands. We took off the carb, cleaned both jets, and sprayed the whole thing with carb clean. We put the carb back on but still died. We can get it to "idle" but it is at a really high RPM. When we try to adjust the idle screw it either revs up more or dies. The previous class and teacher, choked the engine to kill it. So when we took out the plugs they were dark, or rich. We replaced them and the engine still died. NOTE: there was a centrifugal clutch on the car, but it was rusted together so we ended up taking it off. My classmates and I were thinking that the engine doesn't have enough suction, for the fuel pump, at low RPMs.     Model: 303777    /    Type: 1162-E1        /    Code: 03011511

I noticed it was flooding...badly. fuel was leaking out of the carburetor by the intake. I then pulled the cord a couple more times and now it is leaking gas through the exhaust port. What happened? Float to high? I set it to the gauge provide by the carb kit. It was pretty close to right on. What next?

Lawn mower

I have a Craftsman Lawn Mower Model 917.377842 with a Honda engine. To make along story short, I made my usual tune up for the season. I had the blade sharpen, changed oil, changed spark plug & put fresh fuel in.  It usually starts with 2 pulls but didn't and found oil in the air filter compartment.  I eventually tipped the wrong way while putting back on the blade. I drained the oil & gas & put fresh in. The oil stopped squirting into the oil compartment but still wouldn't start. I tried cleaning the carb but decided to replace it. It still won't start & now the engine floods with gas. What's going on?  None of this has ever happened. I sure would appreciate any help. I've had this mower for at least 11 yrs & aside from a few minor repairs, it has been great.

Food & Gestational Diabetes

I found out 2 days ago that I might be at risk for gestational diabetes (getting diabetes while pregnant.  Usually goes away after baby is born).  My doc suggested that I try a diabetic diet and I've looked up many great recipes and ideas but I was wondering if the Instructables community has any input.  Do any of you have diabetes?  How do you figure out what to eat? So I'm turning to Instructables for healthy alternatives for everyday eats. I know the basics, everything in moderation, leafy greens, eat colors of the rainbow, exercise, low carb intake, water, water, water - all that jazz.  Do you guys have any favorite healthy recipes or instructables you've tried and enjoyed?  I need to be eating 2200 healthy calories to keep baby strong and give myself a ton of energy.  I get tested again in 4 months to see if I have to be put on medication or even worse, have to do insulin.  I'm going to do my best to prevent this.   Any suggestions, tips will be appreciated. Centrifugal clutch not gripping well? Answered

I mounted a rototiller engine (Tecumseh TC300 or TC200 I think) on a bicycle after un-siezing every moving part on it, cleaning the carb etc. It seems to run well and starts very easy. But for some reason it won't make the bike move. When it's at full throttle the engine doesn't bog down or anything but smoke was coming from the centrifugal clutch and it didn't move the bike. The wheel on the bike spins if lifted off the ground but stops under any resistance. I don't think the gear ratio is to wide but that might be part of the problem. I think the clutch is not gripping well, but it looks exactly like the new one that I looked at. There is no friction pad on the shoe, just steel on steel. Should I try cutting a cross-hatch into the shoes and drum of the clutch or is there a better way? Mabey something I'm overlooking? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ UPDATE: The problem was the gear ratio. I have made it much narrower and the bike works now, but it has little torque espciaaly below about 5 mph. So I will make the gear ratio even narrower.

my 2007 runmaster wont start

I recently replaced the belt on my 2007 runmaster scooter, during the process of trying to figure out how to replace it i think i may have turned a bolt on the carb. the reason is because after i replaced the belt it would start and it would run but it would bog down when i sat on it and it wouldnt have much power on take off but would pick up a little, plus it would shake very bad and idle kinda high. the reason why i think its ideling too high is because the back tire spins while its ideling on the kickstand. but when i sit on it it would shake and almost bog out. i tryed to turn that said bolt the opposite way a few times though it still did the same thing, it now wont start at all. i have electric start only and now when i try to start it it wont make a sound it wont do anything. but when i turn the clutch a few times it would try to (barely making a sound) for a third of a second start but i think i may have killed the battery too. can anyone please help?! i cant even find a repair shop anywhere near me that would touch a chinese scooter.

whats the best way to electrolyse salt to get a high yeild of sodium chlorate?

Hello, i just tried electrolysing 50mls of water with a teaspoon of dissolved salt inside it, using my tv's power cable which gave out 12v @5.5A. after about 5 mins of electrolysis, my entire room began stinking like chlorine, and the salt water was splattering and bubbling out of the very small container i was using. i was using carbon electrodes for both the anode and cathode, and they were fizzling like bi-carb soda in vinagar as soon as they both touched the water. what i need to know is, how can i improve on this method to get a high yelid, say 99% of sodium chlorate in the end, and not end up with perchlorate, or hydroxide?' i know that if i want to get a high yelid of chlortae, then no chlorine  ions should be lost in the proccess, is there any way to keep all the chlorine? or is it inetivable that they bubble out? also, would it help to add hydrochloric acid to neutralise any sodium hydroxide that forms during the electrolysis, or will that destroy my electrodes? lastly, is 12v 5.5a too much? and is 66 watts too much? also is it watts that makes the electrolysis go faster, and not the voltage, because i have a power supply that can give out 12v 500ma instead. also, as with all my questions, whoever gives the best answer will be given a best answer.
