I tried entering some codes to try to connect my samsung t301g to my mac. The phone didn't do much. I wasn't sure if I am supposed to enter the codes in the main menu. The link shows the codes that should work. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/582887/unlocking_hacking_tricks_for_samsung_cells/

Assume that I cannot confiscate them, and that I have already asked in polite ways. I have also tried logic (cell phones rot your brain) and religion (have damned them to Hell, etc.). Many thanks in advance!?

I know a friend who does something with an old Nokia phone and turn it to a scanner. He can eavesdrop on other people's phone calls, too. I was told that this is impossible with the GSM network as it has more security but i swear he does it all the time. He starts this by installing an old program on the phone first that activates the network monitor. Then he puts in codes on one of the menu and it works. I asked him many times to teach me but he does not want to teach any one this trick. Does any here know how this works?

I've always thought that it would be cool to have more than one cell device on my specific account. (no, not like a family sharing plan). Let's say, I want to keep a spare phone in my glove box, on a trickle charger, so that I always have a working phone in an emergency. Let's say you use your cell phone a lot.. Instead of swapping out exhausted batteries, what if you had a second phone on the charger that you can switch to whenever needed. Is it possible to clone your telephone, so that you can have a spare device. If you are paying for the service, and you can only use one of the phones at a specific time, why would the phone company care? I have 6 old phones from which I upgraded. They all work fine, and could make great spares if there was a way of programming them to work on my account. Can the MAC address / serial number be cloned to an old phone? J.

So, y'know how sometimes you might feel like sharing your music with friends, but you dont want to share you headphones? The solution would be to carry speakers, but usually they're sort of bulky and they wont fit in your pockets very well. So, what about cell phones? even some that are maybe a few years old are still smaller then some speakers. Everyone knows taht cell phones can be Really loud, so what if we somehow add a cable to attach to an audio device, and switch around some things inside, and use the dead phone as speakers?! I would try and do this, but i have no idea how, so this is just an idea for you peoples to think about.!

My friend gave me an old cell phone, with no battery. (No it does not have service). I don't know if it even works. It is a Motorola i860. Where the battery goes are four pins. How can I connect a AA, or AAA, etc battery to it to see if it works. The first time I tried it, it got real hot and then the battery smelled like it was burning. The second time it sparked. Is it even possible to do this? If it is, I need to know the voltage, polarity, and what pins to use.

Recently my girlfriends cell phone broke. The On/Off button still works, but none of the other buttons work. It still can receives phone calls, and text messages, but only one button works. The other day a couple of the other buttons worked briefly, but they went back to not working after a couple of minutes. I think its a problem in the phones wiring. Before I go opening up the cell phone, I was wondering if anyone has any advise or any experience working with cell phones, that might be helpful.

I found a watch phone(s) on eBay that has TXT, GSM, and WAP capabilities for a good price. Anyways I need to know what provider I can use it with. I want to at least have the TXT and GSM. The WAP would be cool too! Thanks, joespicnictables http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-high-cost-performance-Wrist-Watch-Cell-Phone-MP4-/230675500795?pt=Cell_Phones&hash;=item35b554cefb#ht_6074wt_932

Hey everyone, I'm going to be getting a cell phone this week, but its my first one and I have no clue whats good out there. I already know that I'll be using Verizon, so I wanted to see what everyone would recommend thats available on there network. I would like a flip phone with a decent camera and text/pic messaging capabilities, but beyond that I'm not too concerned about extra features. And I refuse to get the Razr, so don't even suggest it.Here is a list of verizon's phones:VerizonThanks!

I was playing around with some of my 1/8in. NeFeBr (or is it NeBrFe?) magnets leftover from the challenge. Was using them to find screws on my flip phone. I noticed that when I put it at the "joint" of the two halves, the screen went dark. Turns out it thought I shut my phone. This was just a little odd tidbit that I wanted to share, that has potental. But, it isn't an instructable, so I just posted it.

Check it out: I'm a major Android fan. Sure, Mac makes some incredible machines, but I just hate how shut off they are. That's why I love Android. You're able to change the battery if you, you can expand your memory, you can even make your own apps without hoping to gain someone's permission. However, the one thing that iPhones have over Android phones is the fact that they have the ability to be placed on a dock. My question is, why can't Android phones do this? Now, instead of making docks for these phones, maybe it's possible to use the ones for iPhones that are already there. What if there was a little plastic piece that snaps on to the iPhone dock and has a mini or micro USB male end on the other side? Of course, there are all kinds of sizes and shapes to Android phones, but I'm sure once this piece is perfected, one could make different shaped ones for different phones to fit neatly. Most of you are much smarter than me (or maybe have more ambition), so I'm sure you can figure out how to do this sooner than I can. If you have and idea on how to make this work, good luck and let me know how it turns out. P.S. If you make this and market it, be sure to credit me for the idea, yeah? ;)

Question by johnshericosmo
To be honest, i think it sounds like a good idea. the device would probably have to be about the diameter of an orange, but i bet having a pocketwatch that doubles as a cell phone would be a hit with steampunk lovers! anyone agree with this?

Does anyone know whether it's possible to re-purpose old cell phones as walkie talkies? I have some "old" phones (1X Tri-mode - 1.9 GHz and 800 MHz CDMA and 800MHz AMPS), and I'd love to be able to use them for our ski club as a short range back channel for communications in addition to the radios we use when we host races. I'm assuming we'd need to get some sort of base station, not sure where or how. There are probably some laws we'd have to comply with, assuming that something like this is even possible (I'm in Canada). I'd consider activating & using them normally, but the cell coverage on our mountain is very weak and unreliable, hence this post. Any ideas on how to get something like this started? Or is it a non-starter?

I have so many projects going on in my head that I am surprised there is room for anything else. Heck I have plans for a Jacob's ladder, Tesla coil, perhaps a coil gun but who knows. Well for quite some time I have also considered a vibe-bot or whatever you call them, the ones built with pager motors. But since this is not too exciting to some people it is not something I have jumped on doing. But I came up with a new twist today on the vibe-bot that I would like to try. I do not want to give away too many details here because I would like to keep it a surprise if it works. But I do see one possible problem with what I want to do and that is weight. The parts I have already weigh in at 26 grams. I am not sure how much the rest of the parts are going to weigh at the moment. But I was wondering what you think the weight limit for a cell phone motor is. I know that some cell phones can weigh a bit but I have no idea what the weight was for these cell phones since I did not have the scale at the time I tore them apart and would not have thought to weigh the phone anyways. Thank you for your insight.

Now, we have long been told that cellphone signals can cause or trigger brain tumor and its pretty much fallen on deaf ears because we cant possibly disconnect ourselves from the cell phones and mobile devices. But is it true that you can prevent them from boosting the cell phone signal like this article states.

Hey there everyone, I'm trying to hack a cell phone such that I can simulate a button being 'pressed' by some other external switch. I simply want to wire a lead on either side of the button so that I can essentially short it out (and then set it up so that the call is set up off of other circuit triggers such as 555 timer). If anyone has a recommended type of phone to use for prototyping purposes, I'd love to know. Otherwise I'm just using a verizon pre-paid phone I picked up from 7-11 (will attach picture shortly)

I use a bluetooth headset at work. problem is, no one can tell when i'm on the phone. i need a simple light to go on when the call comes in, and go off when i hang up. simple, right? i have an iphone. i tried one of those light-up keychain fobs, but they don't work on 3G. don't really know what they work on anymore. i tried a simple manual light switch, but that was too cumbersome. i'm thinking that it should probably be something like a bluetooth - oriented thing, or possibly something that can plug into either the power port or headphone port of the iphone. any ideas?
