Centering of Thumbnail?

I cannot get the featured image (thumbnail) to center. The picture is standard format and already centered. If looks fine in preview and then when I save, the image shifts to the right. Any suggestions?https://www.instructables.com/id/Four-T-Puzzle/I'm using Windows & Chrome

Jedi Training Center

I live on a lake and want to put in some fun stuff for fun and training.  Free stuff is a plus...budget is $50 or so.  Must be able to take out of the water in the fall. First idea I had was to anchor some of those (closed) blue 50 gallon barrels so that people could try and stand on them and fight each other.  I haven't tested this out yet...they may be just too unstable.  I also have to figure out how to tie and anchor them to a cinder block on the bottom of the lake so they can just stay there and float.  Any ideas? Other things....log rolling....diy diving board....let your imagination go.  i haven't found any pics or sites on the internet on this topic, so any ideas appreciated. Thanks!

Arduino Media Center interfaces?

I have a new project idea which is generally a mini media center console using a beagleboard single board computer and an arduino.  Essentially, I would like to run windows 7 or maybe a bare linux, as all I really need here is to run iTunes.  I would like the arduino to act as a IR remote receiver for an HP mobile remote that I have from an old laptop. Also, I have a 2 line display like this and want to also connect it to the arduino so that it will display the name of the song playing and the timing (like the duration of the song and how much of it has played...)  The arduino itself is not the problem, rather i am at a loss as to how i can get the necessary data from the computer.  Please help me out there. Also, I am planning to get a wifi adapter so that i can use my iPod Touch as an additional remote for iTunes.  I plan to house everything in an OKW Diatec enclosure and maybe put a few push switches on there also to have "onboard" play/pause and volume up/down functionality.  This case is designed for displays really, so if anyone can recommend a good deal for like a 7 inch display with VGA, DVI, or S Video hookup, that would be pretty cool.  Maybe even a touchscreen. I would love to hear any comments on this project IDEA that i have come up with so far.  Its just something i came across and thought that it would be cool to do this without an actual laptop.  Beagleboard is a single board computer but its small enough to not make that an issue Thanks

CENTER TAPPED TRANSFORMERS/SMPS Answered

Hello, i just started learning how a center tapped transformers/smps works and i did some test but now i am confused about the dual power distribution, i mean if a device input power rating is a centered tapped, say +12_0_-12 VDC, when we measure the +12 and -12 the voltage is 24VDC but we can't use the 24VDC on a single 12v:0v device it short circuits the transformer/smps. When we measure the +12 and the GND the voltage is 12VDC and we can even use the +12v:GND with a single 12VDC device, so my question is, does the center tapped device actually uses the 24VDC or the device splits the 24VDC into 12VDC/12VDC. Thank you. Sorry for my beautiful English, there is nothing to admire nu(:

I just rated an Instructable, but it says that it hasn't been rated yet!5.2 ...............................5.2 I just saw a comment that says it was posted -xx minutes ago! What should I do?1. Getting Started 1.1 What is Instructables? In a sentence: Instructables is a web-based documentation platform where passionate people share what they do and how they do it, and learn from and collaborate with others. A bit more in depth: It was created by Eric Wilhelm, a mechanical engineer, and launched in August 2005. Instructables is dedicated to step-by-step collaboration among members to build a variety of projects. Users post instructions to their projects, usually accompanied by visual aids, and then interact through comment sections below each Instructable step as well in topic forumsWhile a member of the Media Lab at MIT, Wilhelm co-founded Squid Labs, an engineering and technology company specializing in design and consulting. Instructables started as an internal Squid Labs project, which Wilhelm has since spun out as an independent company and acts as CEO.The original content focused mostly on such projects as building electronic or mechanical devices to solve common problems around the home. The scope of the project has expanded to include a larger array of categories, including arts and crafts, food, home, life, offbeat (first known as "not liable") and recently knex, transportation and tech. The site allows uploading of photos, diagrams, video and animation to help explain complex terminology and mechanisms in clear and understandable termsRead more about the history...Also, Read our About to see who works here1.2 How does the Site make money? Is it profitable? The site is mainly supported by ads, which you see in the sidebars and sometimes at the top of the page. Here is the full explanationIs Instructables profitable? - Almost. According to ewilhelm , the site generates enough money, that it usually covers its running costs, but not quite enough yet to be constantly profitable. 1.3 What is the Instructables Robot? The Instructables Robot is Instructable's mascot. His main function is to greet new members and alert members when they receive comments or messages. The robot is friendly and welcoming. You can easily find him around Instructables. You can tell the robot to alert you if you receive a comment in your personal settings. Likewise, you can tell him to stop doing so anytime at your personal settings.Nobody knows how exactly the robot came to Instructables.....time may tell......1.4 How can I get started here? You probably want to upload an image to your profile. You can do that here , as well as change some of your other account settings, like making View all Steps in one page your default. After that, check out How to make a great Instructable , The Guided Tour of Instructables, and the Help Group if you have any questions.1.5 Who can Help me get started here? ANYONE! all users are helpful. If you are confused, or have a question, don't be afraid to ask in the forum of a member of the community. Our members are happy to help newcomers get comfortable. You are more likely to get lots of help through an open thread, but you can ask questions privately (say, for a project in development) through the "Private Message" system.Have a look at other FAQs in the FAQ Section1.6 What does DIY mean?DIY means Do-It-Yourself. It means that instead of buying expensive stuff, make it yourself and save some money. The main idea of Instructables is to make things and share them with others. You will be surprised about how much money you could save if you do things yourself, and we are here to help you.1.7 What can I write an Instructable about?Bearing in mind our family nature, anything at all. If you're passionate about it, and want to tell others how you do it, then write an Instructable. If you're looking for inspiration, check out the Burning Questions to get you started. When you're a bit more familiarized try entering our Contests1.8 What's the difference between an Instructable and a slideshow? In an Instructable, you show detailed step-by step details on how to make or do something. A slideshow is used when you do not have enough documentation or material for a full Instructable. In a slideshow, you can show off projects or things that you have made. If you want to show something, but its not enough to fill an instructable, you can show pictures of it in a slideshow and write a short summary of the project.1.9 What is a video on Instructables? If you do not want to write a full instructable, but you want to present something that can't be fit into a slideshow, you can embed a video as an individual section.1.10 How can I unpublish my Instructable? It's a slightly-roundabout route, but if you click the edit function, then the publish, and unpublish options appears lower down the screen.2. The Community2.1 How can I make text effects like bold, italic , small text and upper small text?Read this helpful Section by Instructables member NachoMahma2.2 Why doesn't my Instructable show up on the search page when I type the name? Instructables are reviewed by the Robot and his human minions before being added to the public pages. Be patient, it may not have gone through the filter yet. Is your instructable lacking images? Sometimes instructables without images fail to go through the filter. On weekends and Holidays, where there is an influx of people posting projects, it may take longer than normal for it to show up in the Most Recents. If there is a problem with your work, someone on staff will PM you.Your instructable may have been caught by the spam filter. If it has, contact anyone in the Instructable team, and they will check it out for you. Just Be Patient.2.3 What kind of material is considered offensive? What kind of material should be avoided?Pornography - Any and all pornographic material is considered offensive. Posting images or links that include pornography is strictly prohibited. This is a family friendly site, children often browse this site.Language - If you wouldn't show it or say it to your headteacher at school, don't show or say it here.Insults and flaming - We have a "be nice" policy here. Please be positive and constructive with your comments or risk being banned from our site.Spam - Spamming, misleading links and site advertising on the forums, orangeboards, instructables, and Private Messaging are strictly prohibited. However, offers and advertising are allowed in the For Sale Section2.4 Why am I asked to give a number when I send a Private message to someone? This is called a Captcha. A captcha is when you are asked a number or word that appears as an image or sound. The purpose of this is to stop automated spam robots from spamming our Community.2.5 Can I ask for homework help on the forums?Of course! Our community is more than happy to help any way possible! Be sure to post in in the right category, because you wont get much science help in our craft section!2.6 How can I improve the community? You can help our community in many different ways:Be positive and constructive in your comments. We are a friendly and welcoming community, feel free to comment and incorporate yourself into forum topics and discussions. Our members are happy to help and guide newcomers in any way they can.Report offensive material. If you spot material that might be considered offensive or SPAM, click the "flag" button next to the comment or instructable. The Staff will review and take action if necessary.2.7 I've spotted an offensive ad! What can I do?If you spot an ad that qualifies as offensive, right click (not left click!) on it and choose properties. In Firefox, you can right-click and select "Copy Link Location". Copy the URL and report it to a staff member so they can take immediate action. If possible, it is also good to take snapshots of the page (On your keyboard, press Prt Scrn and paste it on MS paint or another image editing program) then present it to a staff member.2.8 Can I post Instructables in other languages?Of Course! We would be extremely happy to add instructables with languages other than english. If you need help with some words or terms, feel free to ask around on our community! Proper grammar and spelling are compulsory in any language. We have a lot of users who are fluent in many languages including Spanish, German and French.3. Other Instructables Features3.1 How do contests work? There is no complete answer to that question, as different contests have different rules. Usually, a contest follows these steps:1) A staff member usually announces that a new contest is coming, and what the theme will be, so members will start getting ideas2) The Contest is announced in the front page3) A staff member will post an instructable on how to enter the contest, and will show full details about it.4) The Contest is then opened for entries.5) After a specific time, the entry deadline closes and the winners are chosen either by the staff of by community votes (Depends on the contests specific rules) and are announced. There are two kinds of contests:- Regular contests are the ones that last a month. These contests also set the month's specific theme. These contests are usually sponsored by a company that is related to the theme. For this reason, prizes almost always come from the companies themselves. Regular contest feature more expensive prizes.- Speed contests are those that only last a predefined time. They are called speed contests, because users have to submit their entries before a close deadline. Since they last such a short time, there are usually more than one speed contest can be held in one same month. In some rare occasions, there can be more than one active Speed Contest at a time. Speed contests usually have more and less expensive prizes than regular contests.3.2 Are contests decided by the staff or the community? It depends on the Contest's specific rules. When an Instructable is chosen by the community, the winners may have multiple categories, such as best rated, most viewed, most votes and others. When the staff decides the winners, they usually take the community's reaction to it as a factor in choosing the winners.3.3 What is Burning Questions?Burning Questions is a regular event in Instructables, where the staff (usually Noahw since he manages it) posts a list of Wanted Instructables that haven't been made.Users submit their entries and the best instructable that answers a question on the list wins a prize. Since there are so many prizes (One for each question), Burning Question Prizes are less expensive, so there can be more prizes.(Originally, the prize was an Instructables Shirt, but as the community grew, more instructables were requested, and the prizes were getting more expensive, so now, the prize is usually a Prize Pack consisting of various Instructables Merchandise)When a winner is chosen, the staff will send him/her a Private Message telling them how to claim their prize. The staff publishes a new round every now and then (currently, we should be expecting Round 5.)Rules:Although the rules are posted in the same posts that the questions are announced, these rules are important, and if not followed, an entry wont qualify: - The Instructable must have pictures in every step. These pictures must be related to the instructable. - The Instructable must be of good quality. It must have proper grammar and steps must be clearly understandable and detailed - The title must be the same as the question, or else it wont be accepted. If the question is how to fold a shirt, the Instructable's title must be exactly that.3.4 Why is Burning Questions Held?Burning Questions has 2 purposes:Getting people to create Instructables wanted amongst the communityImproving the site's "googleabilty". Since many questions start with How to...., it helps the site appear more prominently amongst search engines like Google.3.5 If Burning Questions is chosen by the staff, then why does it have a voting option for the Instructables?Burning Questions winners are chosen by the staff. The voting option is available because Burning Questions has been implemented into the new Contest Section, because of various reasons.Although it is the staff who choose the winners, the community's response to the instructables is also a factor in the decision. 3.6 If I submit 2 answers to Burning Questions, and they both win, do I get 2 Prize Packs? No, if you answer 2 questions in one Burning Questions Contest, the staff will send you a surprise extra gift along with your Prize Pack.3.7 What regions are eligible to participate in contests? Some contest are open to any country, while sadly others are not available for some countries. Take your time and carefully read the rules and details of contests so you can save time or make arrangements.3.8 How can my Instructable get more views? The main thing you can do to get more views is to make something interesting and likable. If you want more views, try posting a forum topic so people can learn about it. Instructables with good and clear steps might even be featured on the Front page- the most trafficked part of Instructables.com3.9 How are Instructables featured? Members who have shown to be very helpful inside our community are handpicked by the Instructables staff and are given the ability to feature an instructable is they consider it meets the criteria for Featuring. As Instructables are featured they appear on the homepage, the most trafficked part of the site. 3.10 What does an Instructable need to be featured? It needs to be good - clear, easily-read Instructions, plenty of useful photos, in focus and probably using your camera's Macro Function (Click here for additional info on using the macro setting) , and additional notes on the images to explain extra points. You should use full and proper language - capitalize sentences, check your spellings and don't use sms-speak. (cuz-because). English isn't compulsory, but correct grammar and spelling are.If it is original idea, a novel approach or an enjoyable read, with carefully-arranged images, then it is more likely to be featured.3.11 How can I be selected to be able to feature? If you produce consistently-good Instructables, and especially if you take an active, useful part in the community, you may be approached by Eric ( ewilhelm ) to join the team. There is no set number of members of the team, but new members are not often invited.4. Miscellaneous4.1 Is it possible to intern at Instructables?-Check regularly at our We're hiring page for more info. Instructables member TimAnderson is also running an internship program documenting Heirloom Technologies 4.2 What is the Community Section? The Community Section contains the Forums:You can choose to either view topics by category or View All in an option at the top of the pageGeneral Forums - General Discussions of DIY. You can talk about anything, not just DIYMarketPlace - Forums for job offers, Internships, Kit sales and other sale sin generalHelp - Ask for help, report a bug, or just give your feedback on Instructables4.3 What is the Marketplace? The MarketPlace is a special part of the forums dedicated to bussiness like Job offers, Interships, Kit sales, and other sales in general. You can sell your stuff, or buy someone else's. This section is still fairly new, so some changes might still happen.5. Current events and Glitches5.1 I just rated an Instructable, but it says that it hasn't been rated yet!The current rating system is fairly new. Before, the rating system was simply the option to give it a plus, or a minus. Our new Rating System is based on the one described hereThe new rating system, consists of the ability to give it a rating from a scale of 0.0 to 5.0. This system is represented by a line of stars. You may also give ratings like 3.5 and 2.5.This new system is not yet complete, and there are a few bugs to work out. Currently when you rate something, it is queued to be processed during Instructables' overnight Bayesian rating algorithm-run and does not update immediately.Until it is complete, you might notice somethings, like for example, that most Instructables will have a rating lower than 4.5.2 I just saw a comment that says it was posted -xx minutes ago! What should I do?This is a small glitch we are currently experiencing. The staff is aware of this, so please, do not report this as a bug or make a forum topic about it. It is nothing serious and out staff are working to fix it. Instructables runs on a couple of servers. Sometimes, the serves receive different information, and when they each compare their information, they might get confused and say that the post was made at a time that is not possible. The following people have contributed to this FAQ:* Kiteman* NachoMahma* Brennn10ewilhelmThanks for your help!I hope this Section has helped answer any questions you might have.Have a question that should appear here? Private message me and I will answer as soon as I can.

Projection TV, all in one entertainment center

I have been playing around with the idea of a rear projection TV as a full all in one entertainment center. As most know rear projection TV's are large and very hollow. My idea is to add a mini-ITX motherboard, a Hard drive, a webcam, 2 USB ports on the front, an IR reciever, and a multi-microphone array. I may also add IR emmiters for use with a will remote, audio ports for a surround sound system, Light sensors to adjust brightness. My TV also has a Memory Stick reader that i want to use for the computer instead.  The motherboard and HDD fit in the base just right with plenty of room to stack a few drives if needed. and there is plenty of room for other accessories if needed. There is a door on the front of the TV with an extra input, with space for USB Ports. The IR reciever for the TV I think should fit a second. If not I will use some sort of repeater to split the input between the 2. although the TV's remote may not be needed at all. The Micro ITX board I have been looking at has a mini PCI port with a laptop style WIFI card, I plan so get some of the antennas used with a laptop and mount them as close to the top as I can get them. and maybe add a bluetooth/wifi card as well. The camera will be an internal laptop camera mounted at the top. The light sensor will be mounted ether on the front or on the top. (I think front will be better.) The microphones will be mounted on top near the camera. One on ether side. Thats the easy stuff. The hard part I want is for the computer to turn the TV on and off with itself. This requires something that will look at the state of the TV. (using the power LED inputs) and close the power button for a second if it needs it.

Inverted color crosshair?

Hello robots. Is there any to get a small dot center of your screen that inverts all color behind it? Kind of like the Minecraft crosshair, except it is always shown in the foreground on top off all programs. My little bro plays like this on his t.v. but with small piece of tape in the exact center. It would be really useful while playing FPS games. I know I'm making things complicated, but I'd rather not have adhesive residue on my monitor.

Instructable page not centering in Internet Explorer

When I login to Instructables.com the main page comes up OK with content centered on the page. There is a selection of currently featured Instructables showing ready for me to select. When I select one of the individual instructables the page comes up with no left margin at all. All the text is totally left justified. I have looked every where I can thank of to center this page and cannot make anything work to do it. I believe this has been going on for 2 or 3 days. If anyone can help with this I would be very thankful. Oh, by the way I am writing this message on the FoxFire explorer and the problem does not happen on FoxFire. The problem only happens when I use Internet Explorer 9 which is my normal internet access device. Lester

Is it possible to survive a fall through the center of the earth? Answered

Okay, LOTS of supposing here. So lets suppose someone dug a hole through the center of the earth, and managed to cover up the sides of the hole with a magma resistant cover of some sort. You start out by getting one of the spacesuits from nasa and decide to jump in the hole. Would you survive? I know that a human in the open sky diving position will go about 200 km/h, and I believe a space suit can survive up to 250 degrees fahrenheit. Please tell me how you came to that conclusion because it's been killing me how to figure it out. And also please include any formulas that are used, they're good to know!

Can I use a dpdt center off?

I recently tried out this project https://www.instructables.com/id/Fuzz-Pedal/#step1 Now I dont have any idea how to read a schematic, but looking at the various photos, and a diagram that someone posted, I did a pretty good job of putting it together. I didn't realize that I had bought a dpdt center off switch until the the store I bought it from closed.  So, I wired the center off switch just like the regular dpdt switch is wired in this diagram. https://www.instructables.com/files/deriv/FKF/N7Y6/GQYG65RC/FKFN7Y6GQYG65RC.LARGE.jpg Im guessing that I need to wire it differently, because Im getting unexpected results. Any advice would be golden, thanks a lot.

Whenever I try to turn my computer on, it takes many attempts. Anyone know whats wrong? Answered

My computer is an HP Media Center PC m7640n, that is not modded in any way, running Windows XP Media Center Edition. I have had it for almost two years now. One day, I went to turn my computer on, but found that it would not boot. The screen was blank, the hard disk read\write light is off, and my internally mounded SD readers light was solidly on, which would normally mean that it is reading an SD card. (note that my CD tray could still be opened.) So then I held in the power button till the pc turned off, then turned it on again. The same thing happened. So then I unplugged it from the wall, let it completely cool down, then started it again. Everything was the same like last time, but all the fans were blowing full power! It kinda sounded like a dustbuster (portable vacuum). So after many tries (5-30), my computer will finally start up. It works completely perfectly while it's running. But, if I turn my computer off, the same thing happens. The amount of tries it takes for me to turn my PC on is anywhere from 1 to at most (I've counted) 49. So now I just leave my PC on all the time.I have tested POST just to make sure that the motherboard is working, by removing both RAM chips and expecting beeps when the computer is turned on. I did hear a series of beeps, which means that my motherboard is OK. I have also tried turning my computer on with no accessories (mouse, keyboard, WiFi, mic, sound, Bluetooth, even the monitor. But still, no effect. I even replaced the power box, still no effect...I have included pictures of different things I described above, and pictures of the motherboard and the label on the power box. I am almost 100% sure that this is a hardware problem. If you need any more technical information, just ask away in the comments! Thanks!-Shadow Ops

Geology in action: A mid-ocean ridge you can visit on vacation!

UPDATE Jun 2011:  ScienceNews has a very nice feature about Afar, with an excellent narrative summary of items since the current spreading event began in 2005. UPDATE Nov 2009:  Science magazine only keeps their news articles free for a short time.  The link below requires paid access to read.  Wikipedia has an article on the volcano. A news article in this week's (May 2009) Science magazine online reports on a very unusual volcano. Located directly in the center of east Africa's Great Rift Valley, it is spewing a unique kind of lava. The Great Rift Valley is a place where one of Earth's tectonic plates is actively dividing in two -- the eastern tip of Africa and the Arabian peninsula is separating from the rest of Africa. In several million years there will be a brand new ocean (not a "sea") like the Atlantic, and the Great Rift Valley will become its mid-ocean ridge. This African volcano is essentially an example of the undersea volcanoes that run down the spreading center along the middle of the Atlantic (Iceland is a set of them that are above the ocean surface). If you want to see what was happening when the Atlantic Ocean was forming, and Brazil was being broken away from West Africa, go visit Ol Doinyo Lengai in Tanzania. ADDED:  Besides the world's only active (on land!) natrocarbonatite volcano, the Great Rift Valley also has examples of sheeted dikes forming and breaking through to the surface.

TARDIS Console Desk/Entertainment Center/Networking Area

In a few months, I'm going to be in a new place somewhere, and have three active computers at once, not counting laptops, and the husks of old machines. I am also running out of space for all of these things. I was trying to come up with design project to one-up my other home improvement geek friends from college, and it hit me: A TARDIS Console. Take three cheapo desks, cut the surfaces in half diagonally, and remount them on a slight angle in a hexagon. Mount the computer towers on odd segments, keyboards, phone, modem, router, etc on evens, sling a monitor on one of the segments, and throw some random sci-fi crap around it. Throw a big light or something in the center, leave some cables loose everywhere, and put a layer of appropriate paint on it. Instant TARDIS console. That's the basics of it. It wouldn't take too much money, but a bit of time to do properly, especially the angled stuff. Add a little extra cash and a lot of extra time, and maybe use plexiglass and put some LED's as backlight. Put old circuit boards under the plexiglass, maybe use an old laptop with nothing but screensaver on it on one of the panels, and put some extra time into decorating and it'll look great. Maybe even build in an amp and an old Yamaha keyboard for fun. This is just some speculation and a bit of boredom on my part. I just thought I'd throw this out there.

Electric motor to turn large, non-centered load?

I would like to get a solar-powered motor to turn a compost tumbler at very low speed, and would like some advice at what the cheapest motor I can get that would do the trick. My idea is to have a ratchet system so it only needs to turn one click at a time every hour (having the compost bin make a full rotation every 1-7 days; I'll experiment with what works best). I've never done a project like this, so the more basic the advice, the better. Thanks!

Finding the center of an elipse (I guess) with random points on the circumference? Answered

First thing to note is that this is NOT an assignment for school, it is a real life issue. I'm trying to make a collar for a little laser diode module which has proved to not be centered (as expected, it was only about £5). After sticking it in a lathe pointing at a wall (the wall isn't parallel with the lathe thus making it an elipse problem) and spinning it by hand, I get a wobbly circle/elipse shape which i then marked out on a sheet of paper to find a center point from which I can find how many degrees off it is which will allow me to make a proper laser re-alignment collar.

TechnoCRAFT Exhibiton at Yerba Buena Center For The Arts In San Francisco

I saw this in the local paper and thought people would want to go. We work down the street from Yerba Buena so maybe we should go as well! TechnoCRAFT  traces the current trend in design away from fixed objects toward open "design platforms" that invite people to participate in the creative process. You can get tickets here and they will be having an opening night party Friday July 9th at 8pm. One of the featured artists is Cyclecide, a local bicycle crew that creates fun rides and bike projects. The exhibition runs until October 3rd. For more info head to www.YBCA.org

scholarship robot idea: robotic media center/surveylance bot

Ok, i know its a rehash of a few different ideas, but it seems like people have been abusing the ability to post and just fling ideas they can't accomplish out there, but hey, i mean, i believe that I can actually pull this one off. i'd like to create a mobile surveylance bot/media center, which would allow a person to call it over, access files, with a keyboard or by voice and allow people to record what goes on in their home, through a camera and audio reciver setup. also, i'd make it an expandible unit, meaning that if there were updates and such, you'd be able to patch it easily, or, if attachments were made, those would be easily recognisable by the system, and easy to install on the bot itself. also, it'd be able to interface with outside technology, some more notible ones being, obviously, and ipod, and other mp3 players, the ability to send it's video from the panel, through s-video, to any tv which will accept s-video, which range anywhere from pre- my 1995 crappy proscan tv, up to my new mitsubishi 1080p lcd tv. allowing a person to store his media on a device such as this, would not only allow him to have his media around the house, without sitting at his computer, but would also help him organize his files, back them up, and, well erm, lets just say, lock some files that shouldn't be accessable by others. i'd also like to add the nearly endless possibilities of this kind of machiene. imagine sitting on your couch, thinking, hey, I just got an idea for that report. only, your kinda sitting there debating weather or not to get up. oh yeah! just call the bot over using a pre-imput command, and it will take your voice and basically write, ammend, or delete any part of the assignment. ok, another one, the same situation, but you want something to do while your bored. its happened to even the best of us... maybe you'll put that new idea you got earlier down in a note, or maybe you'll have the bot read you your code once more to find that error you could never see, or maybe you'll just have it play you some music from your stored playlist. the possibilities are endless! also, its able to happen, but i'd like to add that it may or may not be wi-fi or bluetooth compatible, I really dont know if two months would be enough (i do have a bit of stuff to do ya know) to get that working, but hey, thats what making an expandible system is for!

Looking for a switch, with return to center, like the knob on an RC car remote.

Hello - I am looking for a switch to control volume. Essentially I am looking for a switch like the kind used on RC Cars to control left/right movement. Its the kind of rotary knob that goes two directions with some sort of spring that makes it return to center as off. Anybody know where I can find one? Thanks, -Joe

Ideas from the center of the universe #1: LED throwie machine gun

NOTE: This is so old, that I don't care anymore. If you do, be my guest to change the rules.Ideas from the center of the universe: Any challenging idea that comes into my weird, weird cranium. (I am not purposely saying that I am at the center of the universe; the title is based off of another crazy idea that I once had.)Okay, I just thought of the perfect challenge: a gun that will launch/fling LED throwies at high intervals, at least 5 per second to make it easy. The throwies can be of any size, as can the launcher. Distance limit is 50 feet horizontal.I might think of a prize later on, but I currently do not have any sponsors.Any discussion whatsoever will happen in the comments on this topic. Links to instructables are required if you have found a solution.Well, get started!YP
