Small hourly beep charm

I want to make a very small charm that will play a short beep sequence alarm every hour. It does not need a stop button for the alarm, just beep a few times then be silent for another hour. I'm thinking attiny, speaker, battery. Or something along those lines. Or is this simpler with a 555 (I've never used one before)? I have used attiny for lights, but never anything with sound. Can anybody point me in the right direction for code and also a good place to buy tiny inexpensive speakers? Thanks so much!

Beaded 3D Kitten Cat Charm with tutorial!Hi all, I just made these cute little beaded kitten cats few weeks ago and the good news is I also just completed the free tutorial for it at: http://beadjewelrymaking.com/2009/project/july.html to share with those who is interested to make one or a few for yourself.I used the smallest beads I have which is size 11/0 and one size smaller for the tiny paws, so the little cats are each standing at only 1 cm tall, they are so tiny that I'm thinking of making a kitten charm bracelet with some of them.I used typically the right angle weave technique but usually more than four beads weaves.I used various color combinations to make eight of them, each of different colors, here's more colors of my litter of beaded kitten cats: http://www.beadjewelrymaking.com/2009/beaded_cat.htmlThanks for looking!

Is it safe to use old ornament hooks for jewelry? Answered

I want to use some old, "giant staple-looking" ornament hooks to make beaded charms to hang off a choker, but I don't know what the hooks are made of. I don't really know anything about beading materials or jewelry-making in general. The packaging's long gone and they've been sitting in the toolbox for years. I made one charm and want to make more, but I don't know whether it's okay to keep using these hooks or use wire that's actually sold as wire for jewelry-making. Aside from "don't stab yourself, don't ingest the wire," I'd like to know whether this kind of metal can cause skin irritation or rashes or if that's an issue with any sort of metal (if the latter, is there anything I can do about it?). Unfortunately, I haven't tried wearing the charm I made because I have a bug bite on neck; the charm would brush right up against it. My fingers seem fine, though.

I have a number of these rings. I was given some free fabric samples and these secured them all together, like binder rings but huge. They are 6" across, hinged on one side, with threaded closures along the straight section.  Does anyone have ideas about how to repurpose them? Not much comes to mind except charm necklaces. Maybe something for a Halloween costume?

Another Mystery Succulent... Possibly carnivorous? Answered

We've had quite a bit of rain over the Summer and this charming indigenous succulent is growing like crazy all over the Baja California Coast.  It's hard to see from the photos, but the entire plant looks like it's covered with tiny water-blisters.  It literally glistens!  The flowers open in the sunlight and close at night.  The size varies, but I've seen them grow as large as 8" tall and 2' across.   It looks like it belongs to the Drosera (Sundew) family, but I've been unable to identify it.   Any ideas?

Lexan. Just to be sure...

So, I was thinking about an Halloween mask, a steampunk diving dress. The most complex thing is, of course, the head piece. More specifically, I'm in a bit of a quandary with the visor: I need to make a convex, ellyptical dome of clear plastic. Since I need to fit that into a frame I need to make it from flat panels; this way I'll get the shape I want. I think I'll use Lexan: it seems to be quite sturdy and easy to work on. In theory, all I have to do is heat the thing up to 200°C (400°F) and it will bend like a charm, but I'm a bit worried about exalations and whatnots; can someone help me here please?

These napkin rings go well with the waffle coasters to create a set on the dining table. The colors of the magazines give it a bohemian charm. Finish the ring with lacquer for easy cleaning and durability.INSTRUCTIONS: www.projectfidgetyfingers.blogspot.comMeasure the length and the circumference of a toilet roll.Fold magazine sheets into quarters. Once cut into quarters, fold it into half and then 1/3 and ½ again. Measure the width of the strip and match it according too the circumference of the toilet roll. It should match, giving some allowance of the thickness of the strips. Work out the thickness of the napkin ring. We have measured out 1/3 of the toilet roll, including allowance for the thickness of the strip.Use glue stick to stick the strips onto the toilet roll for placement and ease of weaving. So I've got this brick...

Sometime last year I received a brick that is very special to me. It came from the outside of the old technology wing of my school when they were knocking it down to make way for the new building, and I have a lot of great memories from those rooms. The only problem is...well...it's a big red brick. Its only current function is as a doorstop to my bedroom which I stub my toe on each time I enter. I'm growing sick and tired of it but I don't want to get rid of it either. I figured I might do something crafty with it instead, but unfortunately other than the creative application of paint and glue to make it a less-than-charming piece I can put on my shelf, I'm drawing a blank. Does anyone have any ideas?

A fisherman told me a strange story... Answered

Ok, a couple years ago I was trying to catch some worms for fishing. I tried looking everywhere, but to no luck. I finally went the easy route, and walked to the local fish and tackle store in order to purchase a dozen worms. I was at the counter, ready to pay for the worms, when the old man there said, "well, you're pretty young. Why don't you catch your own worms instead of buying them?". I said that I had tried, but failed.  At this point, he proceeded to tell me a ludicrous story of how he, as a kid, would stick a pitchfork in the ground after a rain, twang it back and forth, and the worms would all go to the surface (where he would pick em up and put them in a can) WTF? I figured he was just pulling my leg, but I tried it anyway. And what do you know? it works like a charm!  Why does it work?

Raspberry Pi 3 Interactive Led Strip Wall

At the moment we're working on an interactive led screen wall for the entrance hall of our new studio. I've setup the following frame (http://i66.tinypic.com/33ll30j.jpg)  with 17meters of WS2812B addressable led strips. We're using the Neopixel library for rasp (https://github.com/jgarff/rpi_ws281x) and it works like a charm with the rasp 3. Anyway they next step is to control these ledstrips so they work as one big display. I had a look on the internet and a lot of people advices to work with the FadeCandy from Adafruits but I want to know if there are other solutions using only Python and write software to control the ledstrips. The purpose is to use the rasp's camera module like this guy did http://andydoro.com/ledmirror/images/stills/ledmirror01.jpg so when someone is entering the room, his reflection appears on the wall... Any information / tips / other solutions about how to achieve what I described above are welcome. Thanks

[Raspberry Pi] Does anyone have WiFi working with RetroPie?

In short, I have two Raspberry Pis - one running the regular distribution of Raspbian, and one running RetroPie, which is built on top of Raspbian. I got the popular Edimax EW-7811Un USB wifi adapter, which worked like a charm right away with regular Raspbian, but for the life of me I cannot get it to work with RetroPie*. I've gone through various troubleshooting steps, and already posted a more detailed description on the official Raspberry Pi forums (thread here if you're interested in the details...no responses yet).  Just curious if anyone here has run into the same issue, and if you found a workaround. I'm a complete Linux amateur so keeping any explanations beginner-friendly would be much appreciated. Thanks! *This isn't for online gaming, I want to be able to do other things like voice control on the same machine, which requires internet access.

Sound card configuration problems

Want to configure my 7.1 sound card, which is embedded in the motherboard. Run windows 7. I used to just split the 'green' channel between my small 2.1 computer speaker system and home built full range 'rear' tower speakers with passive crossover, powered by an old 2X 100W RMS Sony amp, with very satisfactory results (movies, mostly reggae music). But finally I got a nice 10" subwoofer!  Time to make a proper setup! So I tried to plug the tower speakers in the black channel, and for now, the headphones, in the orange channel (while wiring the sub into a 4 X 40W  mono setup- Parallel , I assume????). To the control panel, sound, manage audio devices, speakers, configure (5,1 for now). Works like a charm: all tests OK, can hear all test sounds.  Restart... But W Media player, as well as other players (want to customize with Foobar_X_over eventually) don't provide any sound, except for the green channel. What am I doing wrong?

How to fix a Stereo Intergraded Amplifier JVC A-X9 (Right Channel Problem)?

I need to know how to fix the right channel. I get the music trying to play out of it but, it is all distorted and scratchy( note: The distortion nor does the sound quality change due to moving any knobs or ajusting any functions-helping narrow it down-).  Left Channel works like a charm.  I have done the following to try to fix the problem.  I have blown dust out of the stereo, checked all connections where wires plug into circut board around the volume knob and nearby circut boards. Have tried wiggleing the RCA's thinking they may be wore out. They are fine as I see and therfore wiggleing makes no difference. Any help, Suggestions, and tech support would be a great deal of help right now for I would enjoy this vintage piece working again. Thank you all,  Nate. ps. dont mind the xbox on the pic its stricly the home stereo im asking about. thanks again.

Help with sound reactive LED

Heyy there since i am new to this forum i might have made this question in the wrong section So...i have built a sound reactive LED with a TIP31 transistor that it is powered by a 5.2 volt power supply and it works like a charm! You just plug it on the wall and plug the 3.5mm jack on your output and done! But here is the problem...my laptop's sound card is to weak to power the LED properly so i attached it to my stereo system. It worked better but when i turned up the volume it kept glowing instead of flashing to the beat because the music was loud.My question is..should i use a resistor between the stereo output and the sound reactive LED so it will flash when the music is loud? If yes how many ohms? (PS I am new to these stuff but i know the basics and know how to solder two wires.) (PS No2 I have attached some pictures with the simple schematic and the whole project.) (PS No3 Sorry for my English it's not my mother language.) (PS No4 The uploader is not working for some weird reason so i am not able to upload the pictures)

Allright im looking for information on a number of different ways to ignite thermite. sure we've all heard of magnesium and yes it's usually third or fourth time is the charm also potassium permanganate which is pretty cool too and the ever popular sparkler of course lots of companies have taken out the magnesium chlorates and perchlorates from these sparklers and are now selling crappy ones without hazmat fees for them so they don't work worth a crap. i read an article from a guy stating he used simple visco fuse to light it even though ive heard it won't work but perhaps it depends on the mesh as in much finer. i use the dark german aluminum about 625 mesh and it will coat any and everything it touches. really though guys let's come up with some ways to lite thermite outside of tradition and share these methods of doing so along with how to obtain materialsin conventional and unorthodox ways because without frst time reliable ignition it's just no fun. also the first fire mix, much like the thermite ignition mix at united nuclear what exactly is it made of and how are some ways the monetarily cahllenged can obtain it and of course the not so challenged.

Arduino controlling 10 RGB groups

Hi everyone! I recently came across the arduino board and I've been playing around with using Python to control the board. I would like to use my new toy to create an Ambilight like setup for my computer monitor. The python script I have created for this does quite a good job and runs at about 15-10 fps! I want to use 10 RGB groups of 3 leds each (3 top/bottom, 2 sides). Since the Arduino only has 6 PWM ports and that leaves me with 5 Digital out ports, I have to multiplex the system. Since I want to use all colors and not just the 7 combinations normal rgb controlled by on off gives me I designed a circuit that would make this possible. The refresh times on the PWM ports have me worries.. (changing to a new voltage) The PWM resistor-capacitor circuit is an option to fix this (I think), it would replace the resistor after the PWM in the diagram. My knowledge on the subject is a little rusty so I was wondering if someone here would like to look at my circuit design and comment on it. I'm using MOSFETS, NPN transistors, resistors and capacitors. My LED strips use 12 Volts (hence the mosfets). In a single setup the mosfets work like a charm! 12V goes to the anode of the led group and the mosfet drain goes to the cathode, which is labeled as LED in my diagram. Tnx Guys/(Girls?)!
