Just for us to talk

The Chatroom can be easily abused. The 'Warning" system does not have any requirements, which means that anyone can warn someone for no particular reason. Each time a person is warned more than 4 times in a row, that person is muted for a specific amount of time. Each 4 more warnings is punished by 5 minutes of being muted. Meaning that if someone is warned 8 times, that person will be muted for 10 minutes. Some persons are abusing this system and warning people for no reason. Yesterday, I was warned 32 times. Mostly it wasLittlechef37Okoshima.Linuxh4xor (3 times, as part of the fun. Still, you jerk)The consequence of their joking, was that I was muted over 5 times.....almost 25 minutes (not in a row though)This kind of people simply ruin the experience.I know the chatroom has nothing to do with instructables, just meebo. But because of those jerks, the 32 warnings will now follow me forever (the chatroom tracks your IP adress) and if I am warned in the future, the punishes will be more severe. (Permanent banning from the chatroom is actually possible if a member is warned too much)

I just made a chat room for us here on Ibles. KI has had one for a while and nobody has bothered to make on for ibles. Here's the site. This is mainly just an experiment to see how many people use this, but if a lot start to then I will be on fairly often.

EDITFrom what I've heard, the meebo chatroom has some flaws... I figure its worth a shot of trying again in IRC. I won't go into the details, but it should be a way better method of chatting ;-)I suggest Chatzilla for a client. There's also [www.mibbit.com mibbit] which is online and has an embeddable widget, but I don't really like it as much.I want an IRC channel, and god-dangit I'm going to make one!Its #instructables on irc.freenode.netIf you're already using something like Pidgin or Trillian, IRC should probably be on there, just pick a username, server is "irc.freenode.net", then just join the chat #instructablesIf you aren't -- MIRC Chatzilla is a good client...Anyway... just wanted to let y'all know it exists :P

Hey everybody! As you know, the instructable chatroom we always use is getting slower and slower as the comments builds up... :(Until gmjhowe made another faster, chatroom here!It is called The Super Uber Mega Instructables Chatroom. Enjoy! Also its the exact same chatroom as on the ibles website, so anyone in the uber version can talk to people in the normal version (on the ibles website).I am not trying to spam here, the reason I am doing this is because a lot of users are complains that the old chatroom is getting slower...

As chatroom mods, we try to keep the chatroom up to snuff. Sifting out the bad, making the room presentable to new members. So, speaking for all of the moderators in the Instructables Chatroom, how well/bad/mediocre are we doing our jobs? Is there anything we can improve on, would you like to join us, and be a mod? Hi, gmjhowe here, As many of you may know, i am currently a Moderator inside the meebo chatroom we have on this site. Me along with two others maintain order in the chatroom. The current Mods, are Bumpus, and Adrian Monk I chose these two as they are both chatroom regulars, they have meebo accounts, and are in different time zones to me.Now, we have a few problems, but they are easily fixed with these few simple rules.- People using the chatroom should always use their instructables username- The chatroom is still part of instructables, and we go by the same rules, and be nice policy- People will be given two formal warnings before they are banned, we will not just ban people with no warning. In order to prevent 'imposters' were going to use a simple code system.Basically, all the regulars and visitors to the chatroom will get issued a simple 4-digit code (which will be PMed to their account on ibles). The idea being, that when in the chatroom they can IM me the code, to prove they are who they say they are.Think of it like Captcha.I know this isn't ideal, but it will manage fine for now. Thanks for reading, any questions, just ask.- gmjhoweTo get your 4-digit code, contact me via PM or leave a comment below.

Well, I was trying to remind myself to post a topic about the one year anniversary of the -ibles chatroom, and, I just remembered, a little late..March 9th of last year, the Instructables Robot published a forum topic, debuting the new chatroom for the website. It was a great hit with the community, and made the interaction with other members more 'fun', for lack of a better term. Although, a few of us know that it kinda went downhill for a while, so bad infact, that Moderators were assigned, and rules were set. Since then, we've had a few mix-ups, and whoopses..Anyway, how about an anniversary party for the chatroom?Any ideas?Could we establish a date for such an occasion?Regular Chatroom LinkThe Uber Chatroom LinkI pardon myself for forgetting to remember the date sooner.. :/

Any of you who enjoy partaking in our new IRC chatroom. Will no doubt have jumped into this forum topic due to recognizing the name.Fauxrobo is the name of the IRC bot that runs in our IRC chatroom, he helps to make the chatroom safe, and offers a lot of extra features for the users of the room.I recently decided that its about time Fauxrobo got an identity. A lot of the chatroom members have been developing a certain affection for him. So to celebrate Fauxrobo getting both a face, and a user account, I'm giving out some patches to the regulars!I spend alot of time in the chatroom, and I recognise all the familiar faces, post a comment below, and I will send a patch your way!If you want to get in on the action, check out this instructable on using the IRC chatroom, feel free to contact myself, Bumpus, CameronSS, or Nachomahma for some help. You can get straight into the chatroom via this weblink, at which point you will find myself, or many other helpful people to talk to.

Even jackalopes have birthdays, granted people would find them to be bizarre and fear inducing events we do have them, along with horns. The guys in the chatroom will be glad of this, every time we were talking it's ended up with me launching in to brithday excitement, I didn't have much of one last year so... So yeah, a couple of weeks ago I invited my upperclassmen 'The_Teacher_Dead_LOL' to chat with me, DJ, littlehef37 and n8 on the I'bles chatroom. It was pretty fun, so I asked him to join I'bles just for the heck of it, and he did. His acc is 'The Teacher Is Dead HaHa', and his main point of interests are cooking and photography, so if he might get his lazy butt up his couch and start working hard, you might be able to expect a few cooking and photography I'bles from him. He's a really nice guy, and he doesn't like K'nex (he (jokingly) insulted DJ in the chatroom for playing with 'toy guns' (ROFL) ), so you K'nexers better not be spamming him :-P He's around one and a half year older than me BTW, I'll be 14 on September and he just turned 15 on February. He will be (I think) online around the same time as me, 'cuz all the kids in my school are basically online around the time I'm on, so, yeah.... Oh, and another thing, he's not so good at speaking English. He's a D student in English, but he's open to a lot of constructive criticisms on his English. He does use capital letters, commas, full stops etc. properly though, and he doesn't spell badly because he actually wants to, so that's a plus, I guess... Well, I guess that's it. Moga2 lo bisa sukses di nih website cuy, best of luck dari gw lah! :-P

In the course of a conversation in the chatroom, I triggered myself to go look up old RFC's. I found http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc-sidx1.html . It's kind of like stumbling across Moses' chicken-scrawled first drafts of Genesis...A couple of selected quotes,From RFC-6 (A Conversation with Bob Kahn), "BB&N; is prepared to convert 6, 7, 8, or 9 bit character codes into 8-bit ASCII for transmission and convert again upon assembly at the destination IMP." So ASCII was not a standard data protocol yet. From RFC-82 (Network Meeting Notes), "ARPA will not pay for the coffee and pastry being served, so please chip in to help me pay for it."[Edit 23 Jul 2009: Fixed URL above to eliminate spurious period.]

Did you know that instructables had an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) room? Well, now you do! And you have no excuse not to join it! So, come on in, join the chat room! Here is a (Outdated) guide to it! https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Use-the-Instructables-IRC-Chatroom-With-C/ Note: You can no longer connect to the Freenode server through mibbit, but you can get to it through: http://webchat.freenode.net/ In Nick you put the nick you want to be in (Preferably your instructables nick) In Channel you put #instructables and then you put in the captcha (Which always thinks I am a robot...) Come join us! We won't bite! But be patient. It can often take a while for us to respond. Give us time. Come back. You will like it.

I got a new knex set today. I got the double-sawblade ride. Now I get a whole **** load of blue rods, yellow rods, gray rods, and especially red rods (I only had 6 red rods before I got this set.)And I get much more yellow, white, blue, green, and gray connectors too. I think I may be able to build the sear rifle I have been hyping up in the chatroom for some time now. but This isnt really an end to my part limitations. I did not get a whole lot of short green rods, and the connectors only took one bag. Now my 550 tub is overflowing with the knex parts I have.Double sawblade is a good part booster.

I have been hyping this gun up in the chatroom for a bit, so I got a pic today. This is A combo of my 2 best knex guns I ever built- The AR-4 Commando v2, and the Longbow v2. I made it mostly for the innovative ideas it brought, but i wanted to see if it was possible to combine the AR-4 v2 and Longbow v2.This gun uses an extremely reliable BRAND NEW sear system trigger which never misfires or jams, I thought of making a double-ratchet system and put it in a super modded Longbow handle. The stock Is an uber modded AR-4 commando stock. Same thing with the barrel. It is a single shot, but it can have a mag. Range is 40-50 feet (one rubbeband).the second pic is a close up of the mech. The only con I can think of atm is that this gun is sorta skeletony at the bottom. But its extremely sturdy neverthelessOk, I changed the name because I thought it would be less confusing and more appropriate.

There's has been a lot of bullying around instructables lately, especially the chatroom. One person to bring up is named "adman". So all of you know(i don't like him either), he hasn't done much "hacking". Everything he does is pretty basic. The ads that come up are part of meebo even if he isn't there. The ads are what make meebo free. When everyone is randomly warned, he is just warning everyone. And when he pretends to be someone and changes the same color, the same can be done if you are a meebo member. Finally, when he makes clones, he is just opening a bunch of tabs. I do not want everyone to worry about this person. He is a bad influence and should be ignored. Don't listen to anything he says. He is mean and should not be trusted. If he logs on, block him immediately so he will not annoy you. Another thing is that some people's feeling are getting hurt because the adman is trying to pretend to be the person and says bad things. If this happens, just ignore and not say anything. Eventually, the adman should get bored and leave(i hope...). I hope you guys have a nice time at instructables and ignore the negative stuff that happens. It's just part of life. The world isn't perfect and none in the world is liked by everyone. I hope you have a nice day and treat others nicely. Happy ibling.

Well PKM and I were discussing the existence of Maxibon, a very tasty ice cream bar from Nestle which is hard to find, this was in the chatroom, which if you ever frequent you'll know how the conversations go in there. So a little while later I'm kicking about and take another gander at the wikipedia page about maxibon, all seems sensible, until I hit the flavours list, being a fan of powerthirst I instantly recognized these flavours, which some from the second of the two productions found here. Here's the strange excerpt, watch Powerthirst two for the full understanding of this strange addition... Maxibon is now available in several guises and flavours including SHOCKLATE and all new experimental flavour, GUN!Although the standard Maxibon flavour is refugee, several other limited edition flavours were introduced in the late nineties. Marketed as Maxibon asylum, the concept involved the actual flavour of the ice-cream remaining a mystery until the package was opened. In addition to the standard size, they are also available in snack sized servings in packets of six; these are substantially smaller than the traditional Maxibon. There is also a new release Maxibon Cookie, where the ice cream is in a round shape and covered in cookie dough. The page can be found here I know this isn't a big or new thing, I just found this a funny example of what can go wrong with the wiki societies.

'How to thank Instructables' collaboration. Yes, I know I have done something pretty much exactly like this before. But lets be honest, the letters were rubbish, they were boring, and it was all done by me. This one is really going ot be one done by quite a few (14 people including me to be exact. One person per letter) knexers in the Instructables community. But the letters that you have to make, can't be like mine. All boring and flat and dull. They have to be CREATIVE, FUN, AWESOME, COOL! Now, you may volunteer to do a letter, but once you volunteer, you can't get out! DUN DUN DUNNNNN! :-) So anyway, please join in and thank the ible staff. Here are the paces avalible: The hand/glove - I - N - S - Hiyadudez (Sorry, I want the S for some reason :-P) T - Owen-mon-82397 R - Smilee U - Sprout_less C - T - A - Killer~safecracker B - DSMAN195276 L - Seleziona E - S - CJ81499 When you finish your letter, DO NOT show it to ANYONE! I am looking to create a local text only chatroom as a gallery installation for a sculpture class. In the most basic terms I want 4 text output displays and 4 text inputs to be connected through a cheap computer allowing people to carry on a simple conversation locally. As this makes absolutely no sense and has no practical applications it is difficult to find similar projects. Oh and because it just seemed too easy to wire some laptops together I am trying to do this for around 100$ There are Three basic problems I need to solve: Output: So far my best idea is to use a monochrome lcd such as this: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10168 and soup up/ replace the back-light and create and old school overhead projector. Input: burner cell phone keyboards? cheap keyboards from goodwill? Alternatives? Make them work together: some unholy union of breadboards arduino and raspberry pi So basically this is barely possible if at all, and I am amateur at best in the hardware department (although I have a CS degree in a couple months) Any help from the seasoned veterans of this community would be greatly appreciated. (and I mean anything like if you have a favorite cheap keyboard or lcd that would be an immense help)

Note: When I address 'ibles, I'm talking about the K'nex community here.Hey, knexers of 'ibles. Ignore my title, but it was irresistible , was it not?I'm here before you all today to give you all something to ponder, or act on. Yes, this is about the K'nex 'ibles and KI dilemma. I'm going to tell you now, I'm not going to flame 'ibles, or put offense upon it. Instructables is a DIY website, not specific to K'nex. It wasn't made to hold this community. In my opinion, people here care too much about things they shouldn't , such as ratings. People can rate them anything they want. "5 star because it looks cool!" "1 star, I don't like you." I haven't seen a lot of constructive criticism, which is, I think, what everyone should want. Most of the comments I see aren't very pleasant to read; do you really need to say "u" for "you"? Or "thx" for "thanks"? There aren't many rules here to enforce this. Or if there are, it's too laid back.First off, as you can tell by the name, K'nex Innovation was started for the productivity of K'nex. The decently small community there uses good grammar, to a point. It is moderated better post wise, as it is focused on one topic and things can be easier checked, for its size, once again. Another reason for this is that it's focused on one thing, and one thing only, so that there's less people than Instuctables obviously has. I'm not saying the people on KI have perfect grammar, I don't have it, but I'm saying that they try to the best of their abilities. No rating system. We give constructive criticism, and look down on "OMG COOL GUN!!!!1!!!!11!!" type posts. If you want to say that kind of stuff, PM the dude/man/guy. There's a mixed variety of people; gunners, and then some that make other nifty contraptions. There's a chat room, for K'nex talk. Of course, we have fun there too, throwing off jokes and playing around. Usually a good 8 or so people are in there. A handful of the more matured users who once roamed this site have settle there, such as Mepain and Oodalumps, to name a few. Recently, people there have started a podcast, currently with only two episodes. Also a step up in the community (coming from K'nex Innovation), soon there will be the first internet organized K'nex war.Even if you completely disagree what all that I said, please go check the site out: http://knexinnovation.net/And for those of you who want to talk it up with us first, here's the KI Chatroom: http://embed.mibbit.com/?settings=d4a2e2317b84e8897df0b736464a8ee4&server;=mibbit.darkmyst.org&channel;=%23KIchat&

Are you an Instructables junkie? (if you or a friend/loved one apply to 3 or more of these, please indicate it so that we may be enablers to your self destructive/constructive behaviors. Please be honest) If I feel nice, I might make a personalized I'bles member card for those who ask(domindude10). Symptoms include: - Spending more then 5 straight hours on the site - Commenting excessively - PMing excessively - Trying way to hard for any patches you can find, no matter how lame they are - Replying to all your comments, within less than 15 minutes of comment being posted - Posting the most unrelated stuff to the subject at hand - Neglecting things in the real world that are more important then your attention-seeking behavior here, like homework, or your job - Complaining about things that aren't worth anyone's breath or time - Making many I'bles solely for contest entries - Using terms like I'bles, 'able, OB, O-board, (more to be amended) - Making excessive forum topics - Those who post *some* things Knex (like guns. its not all bad, the ramp stuff is cool) - You roam the Instructables chatroom (meaning you are more than just a casual user) sub-note - you also troll the I'bles IRC much more then necessary - You have lots of partial projects lying around the house, but not being able to prioritize them because they are all so equally Instructableizeable(or you lack the funds to finish them(possibly from your lack of attention to the real world)). - Your response to pretty much everything that happens around you is "That would make a good Instructable." - Your first choice of a search engine is Instructables and not Google, even when you're not searching instructions. - You pressure everyone you know to join/submit Instructables/use them. - You brag to no end to everyone about how cool Instructables is and how it is your whole online life (possibly real life too) - Asking yourself, "What would Kiteman do?" - Praising the robot or Eric whenever it is totally unnecessary. (list to be amended with new whore attributes when they are identified) List of confirmed Instructables junkies: 1) Dj Radio 2) Killer~Safe[Cracker] 3) Kiteman 4) ripstikfan 5) domindude10 6) PKM 7) Nova Hawk 8) V-Man737 9) Izanagi Telos 10) lemonie 11) smilee 12) Berkin 13) mg0930mg 14) logangina 15) conadia 16) The Jamalam 17) hiyadudez 18) Kryptonite 19) Seleziona 20) daywalker42 21) Bartboy 22) MrMystery96 23) sharlston 24) RavingMadStudios 25) joshualater If you have found that you are are indubitably a junkie, you may think about joining the 12 step program.
