Does anyone know what I need to have a Compass on a chip? The idea is for a horizontal ring of LEDs with the northern LED lit. If the ring turns, the light will chase towards the north most point on the ring. I've found single and dual pole compass chips, but I admit a lot of ignorance about chips in general. Anyone have a shopping list for such a project?

I want to make a device to play a sound when a PIR sensor detects motion, but I don't know about the audio chip. I can't seem to find a chip that allows you to program a sound clip to it, then output it when it is given a signal. The closest I found was a cheap sound recorder module from china, but it contains all the external components (mic, batteries, speaker, switches) and so it acts just as a voice recorder. I need an individual chip that will do something similar. I may use the module as a prototype, but I eventually intend to mass produce the circuit, so that is why I am looking for an alternative. It only needs to hold about 5 seconds worth of audio, medium quality.

I know think I am considered to be crazey, but I know what was done to me....I need something that will detect a chip in my body, and something to block it I know that that there are detectors...but I dont know which one is good and I dont have alot of money to spend. I was told to block it with metal..or copper...I used copper roofing sheidling( I dont think that worked...there are companies selling pants for rfid but you dont know if your getting the right info....or is there a fraud

Not sure if in correct forum but here goes... I'm wondering if someone could design a simple and inexpensive way to use a chip to trip a relay with proximity. An idea I have for vehicle anti theft. possibly to bypass need for ignition barrel etc. but to allow the car not to be started without the presence of a close by chip. any ideas?

Hello Everyone: This is my first post in this forum. I have a website on preparedness and survival. I have posted also my first instructable as well basted on this topic. So my challenge to everyone is to use only chip bags and duct tape to come up with something that could save your life. Other than the fact that potatoe chips are part of a well balanced diet. The bags can be used to make all sorts of things. Have fun. Like this one below. Robert (Survival Central editor)

I have a bunch of smoke detector circuit boards all of which have IC chips. All of them have slightly to widely different numbers, some Motorola, a philips, etc. The main question I have is what type of chips are these as far as function goes? I tried looking these up but so far nothing absolute. Some numbers I remember are 8506, 8605, 8502; other numbers are way different and I don't remember what they are.

Could you modify the reader in a chip reading cat flap to log the details of the chips t hat pass through it rather than only let recognized chips open the flap? Chip reading cat flaps exist data logging is possible this I know, how to tie the two together is beyond me. Give me detailed instructions I could do it, but I'm more at home with working out how to wind the detector coil than what to do with it. The reason is this My sister has a problem, she is in danger of becoming a cat lady, or at least over run with strays or other peoples cats. Her current plan other than catching the visitors that are clearly street cats and delivering them to the local shelter, is setting a camera trap aimed at her cat flap and posting the visitor photos on the local area FB page with is this your lost cat under it. couple of the poor conditioned strays she has managed to get to the shelter have been chipped it is reasonable to assume that some of the others must be to, and they would be easier to catch possibly if their owners were trying to do it. Even a simpler system that just connected chipped cat with photo, and there by identified which cats aren't chipped so presumably are true strays not just nominally owned would b of help those could then be targeted for capture and re homing first.

I've seen some projects that use accelerometer chips with arduinos to get readings (e.g. in MATLAB). I'm looking to do this but I'm going to be measuring very low amplitude, low frequency vibrations so, I imagine, the types of acceleromters I've seen used (e.g. the MMA7341L) won't be sensitive enough. Does anyone have a suggestion for which accelerometer would be appropriate (I know that MEMS are a popular brand - there's a list here: http://www.analog.com/en/mems-sensors/mems-accelerometers/products/index.html) Many thanks for your time! Hello, It's a bit stupid to ask (I think), but essential to me. From all schematic I readed over intructables I never saw anything or anybody that cared for that. If a IC have a maximum and minimum current to respect ie: 6mA to 10mA, do we even care? Do I need to limit the current somehow? As I said, every schematic I readed never added any resistor or talked about anything relate to limiting the current on the VCC for the integrated circuit. I'm currently building a device that use one 555 timer IC in astable and a few others IC and they are all connected in parralel to the power suply. Thanks

I have had some problems with illegal rfid chipping by the avalon station los angeles county sheriffs. i have had to throw away alot of my belongings not knowing which item or items were chipped. this rfid frequency number was given to a motorcycle gang on the mainland ( i live on santa catalina island off the coast of southern california).........and this gang attacked and tried to murder me across state lines when i went on a trip to northern california/oregon.............these guys stalked and attempted to kill me at least 15-20 times during an eight month terrifying ordeal! there are some "bad cops" on the force that did not want me to return to the island; as i was going to be a major figure in some lawsuits that are being prepared at this moment. gang officer david v mertens played hardball with a very innocent little resort town of avalon (google his name). he tried to tell the world that on the "misty" island of catalina that there were gangs here on the island.....which is hogwash as everybody in this little community knows everybody else; sometimes too much.......it is like having 3000 brothers and sisters! so after his little pr stunt........hey; there is a need for him on the island. he got kicked off of the island as he does not belong in a resort town. i am a person who has lived in the wilderness for the better part of 30 years; and am very hard to locate, capture or worse...........but they tried twice on the island using air assets (one a grey unmarked military helicopter and two days later a little blue and white private airplane)....but to no avail. they came "straight to me" in the canyons and forests of the island and in the forests of oregon and then back again in the forests of lake tahoe...........no one has ever found me like that........especially a bunch of city boys. when they don't capture me we all walk around town as if nothing happened! my questions are how to detect these chips and destroy them on my backpack, other belongings and even chips that may very well have been inserted into some food i found on the backside of the island just after a sheriffs helicopter had taken off from the remote area. i thought the chopper was putting food in places just in case some of the survivors of a coastguard airplane/helicopter crash found their way to shore; but it might of been meant for me. since returning to the island i saw someone chip my day pack that i left unattended during a mountain run............so as an experiment i went out three days ago and hid the pack in the local hills, when i returned home i realized that i had lost my knife out of it's holster. i go back 30 minutes later to look...........and guess what?........the pack was already gone! then some sort of personnel folks came back for me; that i saw way down below me in that spot......looking directly at me! i always get hunches to get up and go before anything major is about to happen; which is how i got away from the motorcycle gang and the sheriffs that backed the gang cop. any suggestions you might give me in regards to these issues would be greatly appreciated. thank you for your time. pack below

Well, for a Business studies/economics assignment (40 pages!!!!!!) I was given the task of setting up a hypothetical business. This is basically doing everything APART from actually doing it, if that makes sense. Anyway, I'm setting up a (hypothetical) Fish n' Chip shop and I just wanted to know what would make you want to visit a Fish n' Chip shop, from the outside I mean. What kind of shopfront aesthetics would make you think "wow, let's go there!" There are no Mcdonalds, Burger King or KFC etc. where I live, so there are no big brands to compete with: just 2 pubs and a chinese take-out. Also if you could think of a good name for my shop, that would be great! I thought of: "House of Cod" and "The best Plaice in town" but I couldn't think of any others that aren't already established Fish n' Chip companies.

How Do these work? What is the difference between microcontroller and microchip ( are they the same thing? ) Answered
Well I have been opening things like VHS, DVD players Computers and a lot of other things ( since my family is not the richest around we usually buy stuff second hand ) But even if we did get new stuff I would probably be the same. I am a curious kid by nature ( it must be a hundred times i heard the line curiosity killed the cat from teachers to even my family and friends ) Ok so to the question What are these microchips/controllers What ever they are. Like how could I use one if I would be able to get them out of the circuit? I heard they get programed to do something. How do i program one? Why do the circuit always so complicated?

I need a peltier chip for a project and I'm a little confused how they work. I'm pretty sure I got it right, but not positive. Can someone tell me if this is right? The hot side of a peltier chip is attached to a heatsink with "grease" (can someone tell me where to get that?) then a fan blows the hot air away from the peltier chip from the side and another fan blows across the side of the peltier chip to its intended destination for cooling. Is this right?

Is there a chip like the LM3914 that takes an analogue voltage input and turns it into a digital signal? (preferably BCD, but decimal is fine too), but without the inverting output, so I can use it with other CMOS chips? I basically just want a chip that takes an analogue signal, and based on a threshold, divides it up into a decimal (or binary) signal. Specifically, I want to use it with a thermistor and a 7-segment display to make a digital thermometer.

Okay, so im looking to replace some IC's in a laptop. simple enough, but theres one thing. the part numbers differ by only one digit, and searching for either returns identical results. its a DDR ram chip, made by samsung, part "K4D551638F-TC40". the number that changes on two of the four chips is on the first line, with the word "Samsung". one two of the chips its a "510", while on the other two its a "540". if i google the chip and go to images, most of the results show one with a 510 on it. i know it isnt the clock speed, because according to the datasheet that is shown by the "TC40", so does anyone have a clue what those 3 digits on that first line mean? if anything?

I've just started playing with Arduino boards and programming and I am curious about firmware or downloading a program to a chip upon completion so the project remains so I can keep it intact after I remove the Arduino interface. Can you buy inexpensive chips and download a program to the chip with all the instructions on it so I don't have to leave the Arduino board connected to it. I've heard there are inexpensive one time chips that you can download too and that's pretty much it. Once the program is in, its in and you can't reprogram it again so my questions are this 1) can this be done? 2) does anyone have an Instructable for a project that uses this, and finally, where can I get such programmable chips? Any assistance or advise is most appreciated.
